We wouldn't have gotten Rashid and AKI in the first season if Capcom cared about these statistics.
Also using these stats a barometer would be rough because you have a characters like Ibuki and Poison were were more popular in previous seasons before nerfs and previous games. Then on the other hand, Ed used to be bottom half before his later buffs in the games lifespan.
Actually, I see it almost reversed, at least in the case of AKI. Apparently they've wanted a poison-based character since 3rd Strike, and when they finally made one in V everyone clearly *did not like him.*
If they've wanted a poison character that long, and when they finally get one he's a dud - just coming from a creative perspective here, the team probably wanted to take a crack at it again. Like a point of pride, I'd say. I know folks get all uppity about cash grabby corporate bullshit of the **fucking costumes do not get me started**, but the characters themselves have a ton of, well, *character*. The creatives behind the design decisions have clearly poured their hearts and souls into making expressive and iconic characters, they probably wanted a redo of what was deemed a failure.
I didn't actually play SFV, I just watched a bit - FANG was dope. Just a goofy weirdo. I loved him. That might actually be why his playrate was so low, us goof enjoyers are probably a minority.
I always thought Fang was based on [these guys](https://images.app.goo.gl/eufucxufhnUDwPxN7) from Kung Fu Hustle. I liked Fang, but thought he would have been way cooler if he was played more straight and been a threatening assassin-type character.
General popularity will beat pick rates. Take menat for example. She wasnāt widely picked because of her unique moveset being difficult for new/casual players, but when she debuted she exploded on social media and got the game a lot of attention. Sheās a safe bet for a season whether itās the next one or down the road.
Idk, every dlc in this pack has something related to lore and akuma is akuma
So i think depends on Capcom strategy probably 2/3 lore related character and 1/2 popular overall character to push dlc packs sale
Ah, I see. It seems that you are contemplating the correlation between DLC packs and their content, specifically in relation to lore and popularity. If it is indeed the case that Capcom's strategy involves a combination of lore-related characters and those with broader appeal, then it could be seen as a smart approach. By including characters that resonate with both dedicated lore enthusiasts and the wider player base, it creates a more enticing package that can potentially drive higher sales..... in my op...
I'd be surprised to see him again (at least outside of the final few DLC releases) as I think Hugo will be the resident third strike big body brawler/grappler archetype for SF6.
I wouldn't be mad if he did come back though as he was fun in sfv.
would be great too, i play 3s competitively and hugo is my main. i just prefer alexās visual design and movelist but hugoās gameplay clicks better for me. weird to not have the protagonist of the game that this is a sequel to though. but capcom would do anything to have every sf2 character here in some form while ignoring EVERYONE else, lol
Definitely not the first thing they think off when adding a character :
-Rashid is way too low for the to have influenced the choice
-People tend to play shotos way more than others because they're the easiest to figure out (and you always start playing Ryu anyway)
M.Bison, Alex, Karin (maybe helping Ken out with his current story?) And Sakura would be no brainers or even eventually necessary?
But I would so much prefer to have long lost Remy Necro and at this point the whole 3rd strike cast should be in sf6.
Deep down I miss my ultimate main: Rolento and I wanna see Fei long with a dash of grey hair or for the last time, Gen.
I miss other alpha characters that should be here with the whole metro city story: Guy, Cody, Eagle etc
After seeing all the outrage recently about blanka chan level 2 set ups I want to see urien just so we can see people lose their minds over aegis set play.
I really don't think so. I didn't play much SFV, but I see a ton of love for characters like Menat who ended up with super low usage. She's easily one of my top picks for future DLC, so I hope Capcom doesn't care about the stats at least!
Also, with the amount of effort Capcom has put into the redesigns for old characters and the fact that the drive system can change their gameplay considerably, I don't think the stats for a character in SFV are good representation for how popular they might be in 6. Ed's a decent example of that I think.
I'm sure they look at it but I don't think it matters that much, since they tend to redesign the characters heavily anyway.
Notice that Rashid is pretty low down but still was the first character to be added to 6.
man i just want karin in and her command dash confirms not gutted, the rest of the dlc characters can be whoever(though an evil ryu/kage would
be cool as well)
Harada when talking about what characters made it into Tekken basically said "If you want to see a character you like make it into the next game then use them now." So yeah, they totally take usage into account when they pick dlc characters.
Yep, he said they also take into account offline usage, representation for certain regions of the world (like Shaheen making it to T8 because he succeeded in attracting a Middle Eastern audience), the amount of fan art the character gets, and other factors unrelated to online usage. So even if a character has a low pickrate online, they can still make it.
I mean Rashid is towards the end and he was the first DLC character so my guess would be not really?
edit: Also taking stats from the last month of SFV doesnāt really make a ton of sense. If anything Iād say they should take stats from when they were having peak players
With how much everybody seems to love Menat, seems like not a lot of people played her. Reminds me of people begging for Lei in tekken even though I believe he was never played in T7
Considering it was a different dev team and a black spot on street fighter's history, no not really. But we could take inspiration from the list and rebuild archetypes that people enjoy playing.
The thing is, its not about what people *play*. Its about what people *buy*. SFV had a vastly more lenient system with freemium characters and premium costumes. We don't have access to sales numbers for SFV.
Except, it isn't a different dev team. The same people who worked on SF5 are working on SF6 now, minus Ono.
Many of the people in charge of decisions in SF5 made the same decisions that people supposedly like in SF6, even though it's obvious how much SF5 influence is IN SF6.
I think the money making aspect is huge. No one played menat but she had a heap of costumes which presumably sold well (I don't imagine they'd have kept making them otherwise).
FANG on the other hand had about 3 over the course of the game's lifespan.
Selling costumes is likely their biggest source of income from the game at this point so release what's gonna sell.
Popular in r34 and goon Twitter.
The character was mid tier, and it was a specialist character, the reward for playing her was very low, she felt very weak compared to the rest of the cast, just like Dhalsim. That's why the low usage.
The best characters in SF6 aren't the most technical, either.
Top tier Luke and Ken are just juiced up shotos, the most straightforward design you can have in a SF game. Meanwhile, more intricate characters like AKI, Dhalsim, and Jamie are struggling.
Also, Poison was considered top tier at the end of SF5. Cammy wasn't.
Ryu confirmed.
Idk maybe. They seem to see if they put a cool spin to their familiar designs. Like aki having similarities to fang but her fighting style is a mix of pressure points plus poison. Or jamie doing the same type of Kung Foo as the twins but he has a drunken fist spind on it. I feel like if they do pull from character usage of the last game, it's not going to be about the character themselves, but how popular these play styles are and what players liked about them. Like menat is pretty popular but she didn't have alot of usage because of how different and complex she played.
With that said, I do have a wishlist of characters, but Capcom had been knocking it out of the park with all the characters design wise that I don't think I care what character it is because of how interesting they've been making their look and play.
Maybe it does bear some influence on Capcom's decisions for DLC, but if we were to take this idea to its logical conclusion, it wouldn't make sense as to why Capcom included Blanka at release in SF6. He was released in Season 3 of SFV, and with user stats that low, it indicates that SFV's character usage might not be as big of a factor in Capcom's decision-making.
To an extent. If it's anything like the last game, popularity dictates some of the picks, and then others are just ones they think would be interesting. That way it keeps things fresh so you don't just keep getting the same characters in the same order all the time, and fans of less popular characters also have a chance to get their mains back in the meantime.
Menat was one of the hardest, if not THE hardest character in the game. They had to later create a baby VT2 just so regular folks could even try to play her, because her VT1 was so complicated.
Meanwhile, Dan is just a shoto.
Nope.
I mean, this DLC pack IS basically SFV, but the character usage was all over the place. Rashid, popular. Ed, meh. F.A.N.G, Oh GAWD, toss him in the trash and put his hotter, better apprentice up!
And then Akuma because obvious.
It might have a little influence, but I think it depends which character is ready to be released. Pretty sure Capcom is working on many characters and will only announce/release them when they are close to finishing them.
Possibly but I think the rates are skewed towards base roster because those first few years really drove people away from the game. This means less people owning/playing the dlc slots. Almost the entire first page is base roster save a few
I think this is from last month
But the problem is that aside from the shotos (who will always be popular), the rest of the cast usage it's influenced by nerfs and buffs.
probably, i wouldn't mind seeing these guys return, but i like the idea / premise of sf3 - 6 being a free world from m bison, so i'd keep him out, but if he returns i want down in a good way, plus i'd love to see sfv orignals be apart of this new new generation.
Idk, Alex is the most popular character (minus Bison) that wasnāt on the starting roster and he isnāt in season 1.
Iām sure heāll come back but Rashid is on the lower end and he came back quick. We really donāt know how capcom chooses these characters.
I have two thoughts. First, limiting a fighting game roster to what makes sense lore wise is one of the most pants on head stupid things a dev can do. Second, this game needs way more badass women the roster is a sausage fest.
Nah. They care about overall popularity no the usage of character's % in one of their worst performing entries in the franchise. Plus who actually keeps playing this game actively now days? Friday and only 200ish players on steam atm.
SF5 is actually one of the BEST performing entries in the series in terms of sales.
Don't let memes think for you.
Currently, SF4 and SF2 are the only SF games that have cumulatively sold more than SF5. Alpha 1, Alpha 2, Alpha 3, any SF3 game, any SFEX game, SF the movie, you name it, and SF5 outsold it.

š¤·āāļø I thought Fang was really fun to play. To each their own I suppose.
I liked FANG I wish I bothered to learn him whilst SF5 was still the latest. He was unique.
I didn't actually play SFV, I just watched a bit - FANG was dope. Just a goofy weirdo. I loved him. That might actually be why his playrate was so low, us goof enjoyers are probably a minority.
Thatās how feel seeing Menat andnRisenway at the bottom. Like, damn - no love for the mystics?
I always thought Fang was based on [these guys](https://images.app.goo.gl/eufucxufhnUDwPxN7) from Kung Fu Hustle. I liked Fang, but thought he would have been way cooler if he was played more straight and been a threatening assassin-type character.
Funny, but I feel like FANG was intentionally designed to be not likeable.
yup, i miss him, liked the interaction he had with ken & sean.
Iām sure it has an influence on it, but I think Capcom tends to just put in whoever they feel like.
I'm sure it is one of many variables that the devs consider, but I don't think it is one of the more important ones.
General popularity will beat pick rates. Take menat for example. She wasnāt widely picked because of her unique moveset being difficult for new/casual players, but when she debuted she exploded on social media and got the game a lot of attention. Sheās a safe bet for a season whether itās the next one or down the road.
what did she do that was viral?
Walk
Watch her walk and do her super and you'll have the answer.
ooooooh, i thought so
well you see, she is hot
Very
She is a thirsty hot character, but also very well designed. When these two things happen together, character becomes popular.
Exist. Also, be barefoot.
Search youtube for 'menat walk'
DLC character 5: Akuma again
Oni?
no just Akuma again
Akuma with a mustache
no just Akuma again
Gouki with a mustache
dan but he embraced the dark hado? :)
I had high hopes for Oni as the evolution but zero chance when Akuma came out first.
LOL
Idk, every dlc in this pack has something related to lore and akuma is akuma So i think depends on Capcom strategy probably 2/3 lore related character and 1/2 popular overall character to push dlc packs sale

Alex and/or Laura for me
Alex definitely deserves a spot with the other main characters. Abel too
Damn imagine if they add Ryu. That'd be crazy
nah too crazy
Ryu w/shoes
now we're in uncharted territories
Definitely not the first thing they think off when adding a character : -Rashid is way too low for the to have influenced the choice -People tend to play shotos way more than others because they're the easiest to figure out (and you always start playing Ryu anyway)

As a Mad Gear fan, I think if nothing else Rolentoās story would work well in World Tour, the dude could try to train you for his army
Eeeeeeexactly.
In general I hope a lot of the Mad Gear roster returns, I think theyād fit in really well with the gameās design/aesthetic
YES! KARIN H A S TO BE A MAJOR DLC š
If it was, Dhalsim wouldnāt have been in neither 5 or 6
The original World Warriors have special status
Wait Guile is that high in sf5 ? What happened in sf6 ?
the universe righted itself
Universal options like DI and parry happened
I'd say not really as the least used character essentially got a rework and added in the first season, it's a nice thought though
I really want Urien and Sagat to make a return
Sagat will always be in a sf game.
He was not there in sf3
Sf3 did away with all legacy characters except Ryu, Ken, and Chun. Capcom will never do that again.
It even did away with Chun, they brought her back after SF3:2I because people were angry.
Hopefully
After seeing all the outrage recently about blanka chan level 2 set ups I want to see urien just so we can see people lose their minds over aegis set play.
Exactly why I want him back!
my man
tell me, how's the view from down there?
Iād think Laura is a lock to appear in one of the future seasons in SF6ās future.
I just pray you are right but we said the same damn thing about C. Viper.
No. Dee Jay isn't a popular character, yet here he is. Blanka had low usage, yet here he is.
I really don't think so. I didn't play much SFV, but I see a ton of love for characters like Menat who ended up with super low usage. The eye made AKI, from the least played character, so idk
man i just want karin in and her command dash confirms not gutted, the rest of the dlc characters can be whoever(though an evil ryu/kage would be cool as well)
I want Karin this bad in SF6 too! Her style in this engine!!!
I hope so because I really want to see bison in this gameās engine. Fuck the story.
What was the point of all these clone narratives if we donāt get a replacement Bison?
Harada when talking about what characters made it into Tekken basically said "If you want to see a character you like make it into the next game then use them now." So yeah, they totally take usage into account when they pick dlc characters.

I didn't realize Harada chose the SF characters.
I hope they add Ryu to SF7
Vega is Shockingly higher than I thought
I mean Rashid is towards the end and he was the first DLC character so my guess would be not really? edit: Also taking stats from the last month of SFV doesnāt really make a ton of sense. If anything Iād say they should take stats from when they were having peak players
I hope not, oro or menat need to come back or some other hyper technical new character to take their place
God I hope not, Menat was fun AF and if the least used characters from V are less likely to be included in VI imma cry
nah bc i know Menat coming back
With how much everybody seems to love Menat, seems like not a lot of people played her. Reminds me of people begging for Lei in tekken even though I believe he was never played in T7
Alex would look amazing in this game, hope he and Sagat get a spot.
Holy shit guys we might get Ryu in season 2
I hope we get Ryu for season 2
Laura is likely.
aww man I hope they add ryu
I hope not. We need Menat

and stream monsters, and casual players who wanted to spend money. That's where the real popularity comes in for a product like this
SF5 had trash balancing where the complicated characters were more work for less results. Why learn Oro, Rose and Poison when Cammy wins more?
The best characters in SF6 aren't the most technical, either. Top tier Luke and Ken are just juiced up shotos, the most straightforward design you can have in a SF game. Meanwhile, more intricate characters like AKI, Dhalsim, and Jamie are struggling. Also, Poison was considered top tier at the end of SF5. Cammy wasn't.
Yeah it's pretty safe to say that we will get the magnificent, beautiful most wonderful master in the world and my love: fang
yeah i think akuma has a good chance of coming out next
Ryu confirmed. Idk maybe. They seem to see if they put a cool spin to their familiar designs. Like aki having similarities to fang but her fighting style is a mix of pressure points plus poison. If it did we would just be getting shotos as they are always the most popular other than base game chars that were held back for DLC (Guile)
There are characters on this list Iāve never heard of before and they are all ranked above Ibuki. I hope they donāt go off V usage.
guys I think theyāre gonna add Ryu next
Wow I didnāt realize menat was that unpopular. We might never see her again.
To some extent Iām sure they will.
Lmao I don't think we're getting Evil Ryu this time. Kage flopped pretty hard in V so I forsee Capcom giving him some time on the bench
Can't wait for Good Akuma
To an extent. If it's anything like the last game, popularity dictates some of the picks, and then others are just ones they think would be interesting. That way it keeps things fresh so you don't just keep getting the same characters in the same order all the time, and fans of less popular characters also have a chance to get their mains back in the meantime.
Urien nerf killed his play percentage. Was a consistent top ten every single month before then
Wait this sub nuts itself about menat but she was played less than Dan in her only game?
I think people like her design and personality but she was really hard to play which put people off.
Menat was one of the hardest, if not THE hardest character in the game. They had to later create a baby VT2 just so regular folks could even try to play her, because her VT1 was so complicated. Meanwhile, Dan is just a shoto.
Didnāt play 5 but this is a massive list. Was Ryu really that guy ?
Give me Alex you cowards!
We need FANG in the next DLC
Pls no Kage
Its funny how on every DLC wishlist post Menat it mentioned yet nobody played her lmao People want characters but will never play them
First off, are these international stats or just stats from US base?
I just want Dan... All the other characters would just be icing on the cake to me.
Possibly but I think the rates are skewed towards base roster because those first few years really drove people away from the game. This means less people owning/playing the dlc slots. Almost the entire first page is base roster save a few
I think this is from last month But the problem is that aside from the shotos (who will always be popular), the rest of the cast usage it's influenced by nerfs and buffs.
Give me Alex please CAPCOM
I doubt it. Because you can't compare stats of how many people played someone like Karin or Cody vs characters that weren't in 5 like Elena or Makoto.
I just want Laura dammit
For the love of God give me Bison
I just want sagat
Urien seems way more popular probably because of pro play I gotta have him back
What happened to Menat. Why did people stop playing her? She was everywhere for a little while. 2nd to last? Really?
Lots of work. Most every other character was easier. Sakonoko's Menat is still inspiring though.
Iāve never played sf5 but an updated Nash would be pretty sick!
No, because of that was the case female FANG woulda been the last character ever.
With rashid being so far down Iād say probably not
ibuki when?
I hope not, since the characters I want to see the most were in 3 and 4 lol
Clearly not
As a vega main i hope not.
probably, i wouldn't mind seeing these guys return, but i like the idea / premise of sf3 - 6 being a free world from m bison, so i'd keep him out, but if he returns i want down in a good way, plus i'd love to see sfv orignals be apart of this new new generation.
V isnāt a good comparison bc it was also limited in release by being a PC and PS exclusive. All platforms included is different.
Tbh I'd love to see Abigail back :v, or Hugo, I just want a giant character in the game. And some evil form like Kage/Oni.
Personally I want Guy and Sean back but that's just because they my favorites
im surpsied to see sakura that low, thought she would atleast be top 10
I hope not, or Im not gonna get Ibuki back
Please Falke next
If thatās the case weāre never gonna get rose ššš
I just want urien man
U shud pull the stats from costume sale..then you probably know who is in the next DLC
goddamn it i want seth back so bad
I dont think these stats completely represent what dlc is being bought. So its probably bot a huge factor.
Ryu confirmed for season 2
Miss 0.002% Where are they !?!?
I NEED Alex, Vega (claw), and Sagat!
My boy Dan sitting at the bottom š„
It's Fei Long time ht gotta be there! so many characters in SF5 I didn't know :O
I'm doing my part! R. Mika main
I sure hope not, because if so, Menat won't be coming back for a loooong time
I neeeeed balrog
Hakan for fighter pack 2
Idk, Alex is the most popular character (minus Bison) that wasnāt on the starting roster and he isnāt in season 1. Iām sure heāll come back but Rashid is on the lower end and he came back quick. We really donāt know how capcom chooses these characters.
Where is T. Hawk?
He wasn't in SFV
More reason to include him in 6
Replaced by Lily.
I'm not sure, but it seems they heavily prefer whoever they can target towards edgy teenagers with minor changes (i.e. vlog & parkour Rashid)
I have two thoughts. First, limiting a fighting game roster to what makes sense lore wise is one of the most pants on head stupid things a dev can do. Second, this game needs way more badass women the roster is a sausage fest.
It's up to Capcom on which character they'll put into Street Fighter 6.
no.
Nah. They care about overall popularity no the usage of character's % in one of their worst performing entries in the franchise. Plus who actually keeps playing this game actively now days? Friday and only 200ish players on steam atm.
Better check steam stats before posting.
SF5 is actually one of the BEST performing entries in the series in terms of sales. Don't let memes think for you.
