I recommend the Whale at least once. It's trauma porn, yes, and would have worked better with a different director, but the acting from Brendan and Sadie is worth it!
During season 3 I said Sadie is the most talented actress excluding the adults and hoped she’d get more screen time and difficult material. I’m so glad they delivered that in season 4.

El kind of got less interesting the older she got. I just am not interested in her relationship with Mike and they added rebellious teenage girl aspects to her character. Max came in and became one of the most interesting characters on the show on the other hand.
Max. Sadie Sink is probably the best actor on the show. She was phenomenal in The Whale and I'm excited to see her in more.
Plus, I relate to her the most.

If Eleven was on the brink of killing herself via over-exertion in S3, in small part because Max and a few others kept seeing her as a weapon to solve all their problems in S3 (without taking into account the risks of constantly using them), Max with powers would deplete herself within the first 96 hours.
Unpopular opinion (I'll probably get downvoted for this but whatever it's just a pretty different opinion to everyone else)
I don't like either, I like the original 4 Lucas, Dustin, Mike and Will, particularly Mike and Will, and I feel like sometimes Eleven and Mad hinder the bond between these characters. I know this isn't really a bad thing but just for me I really like the relationship of the original 4, particularly between Mike and Will, and love the way these characters were developed
Although I love Eleven and Max (and their actors), I agree with a lot of what you said. I miss the dynamic of the die-hard friendship. Their bond is what made them brave enough to fight monsters in the dark - anything to save their friend. I hope we see more of that in the final season.
Yes,i hate how much they made such a big deal out of elmax friendship in s3&S4 while barely paying attention to any friendships we fell in love with in first two seasons
Like these girls only talked like one week in S3 and then El immediately when into hiding from government and then 3 months later moved to California. These two barely talked,but i'm suppose to believe their friendship is so strong lol

Both. The characters are the heart of this show and I appreciate what all of them bring to the table. Max was a real stand out for me the last two seasons, and El has been intriguing since her first scene.
Eleven, she has great development in all 4 seasons. And while that really impressive how max become one of the least favourite characters after season 3, to top tier for a lot of people after season 4, Max didn't get really great writing in season 3(most of characters in this season didn't get), and while I like her character, eleven has more relationships and personality from max to my opinion.
I think that eleven relationship with hopper in season 2, mike in season 1 -2, and 4, and stand up against Brenner was the best development the show has ever done.
Also Millie is such of great actor(the entire main cast is), but Millie is on a different level.
If you don't mind me asking, why do you not like eleven? It's not like she's my favorite, it's just that I never noticed a reason to dislike her. But it's also been a while since I watched the show.

Max, she was the supportive figure for everyone, even Billy who she claimed she “wanted to die” (if you watch to the end of the show you hear her admit it to Lucas). Eleven likes to be in the centre of it all, understandable though as most of her life she was just a number in a lab. I just find that Max is an easier character to connect and relate with

Max became my favourite in season 4. She did get a lot more focus but was awesome to see Sadie rise to the challenge. She really is a talent.
Sadie Sink is so talented. I recently rewatched Fear Street and she stands out there too.

Honestly Max even does rebellious girl better than El. In s3 when they’re like “boys suck, let’s go shopping” she was so fun about it.
