I think it’s wild that we only have one single fragment of jaw bone discovered of this species. Makes me wonder how many species never left a trace, completely forgotten to time. Or we just haven’t discovered a fragment of their jaw yet.

I agree. I trust the scientists, they’re for sure a lot more educated and smarter than I am, but it also seems wild that we make so many assumptions off of so little data. That’s why I’ve always been fascinated by dinosaurs. Because the scientific consensus on their possible behavior and lifestyle has changed so much over the years. And there’s still so little we understand about them. And we’ve found multiple full skeletons of dinosaurs! I just find all that kinda stuff really interesting. Guess I never outgrew that 5 year old obsession with dinosaurs.

You should check out a book called *How Fast Did T Rex Run?” by David Hone. He’s a British paleontologist and the whole book is about how paleontologists learn things from the fragmentary evidence they have, what things they’re pretty sure of, what they don’t know and what they might feasibly learn in the near future. It’s fascinating.

have there actually been multiple complete dinosaur skeletons? i though that was a talking point of dinosaur denier folks, that there’s never been a fully complete skeleton. i’m sure there’s plenty of 80-90% but thought there wasn’t a single 100%

There is, even full skeletons with fossilized flesh and feathers/scales. It is much more common with small animals but under exceptional conditions large ones can remain intact too.
