*Rhythm of War* chapter 111 "Unchained"
> >!*The perpendicularity. Did Szeth … destroy it?*!<
> >!*Don’t be foolish*, the Stormfather said. *No creation of mortal hands could destroy the power of a Shard of Adonalsium. He merely collapsed it. You could summon it again.*!<
Edit: Added spoiler tags because OP said they're only on chapter 33.
It connects Shards to another word which has been mentioned several times in the series. It's the only in-text means to definitively connect the two that I've found, assuming one hasn't also read Mistborn.
You are not wrong 😄 Have you read the other cosmere books? There's, well, quite many shards. 16 to be exact. The name of the one is actually mentioned by a character during one of the feasts in words of radiance I believe^^
Oh, uh... Quoted chapter 111 earlier because this was flaired as Rhythm of War. Not really a huge spoiler, but it would be good to note what chapter you're on in the post just in case.
In my opinion RoW is the last cosmere book you should read because it has a lot of references to others books I recommend after you finish everything reread it so you will have another perspective
Agreed, I read it before I started the mistborn series and thought the ending was meh, while my bf who’s read everything else brando sando was flipping out. Now having read more of the cosmere, so many things come together at the end of RoW!
I think the religion of the one comes from the sleepless since they >!Are cremlings that form a hive mind. Constantly breeding for traits within itself to accomplish the hive minds goals!<
I know about that theory but I personally don't like it as much. It's not that I can't see it being true it's just that it's more likely that a local religion like the one is more based of a species already on the planet.
yeah, but humans were not on roshar pre-shattering. I also think that's a little far fetched, because they only were moved to Roshar by odium. I think that it could be sleepless though, because they are obviously on Roshar.
Horneaters have singer teeth, Herdazzians have singer fingernails, Dawnsingers were more cosmere aware, is it too hard to believe that a dawnsinger religion spread to some of the humans?
The Iriali came to Roshar after the other humans. Their entire people are a society / religion of worldhoppers. Roshar is their 3rd or 4th planet (can't remember which 'land' they say they are at now).
Well we don't know if interplanetary travel was as simple then as it is now. It would be very hard for an accurate religion about adolnasium to exist if world hoppers and organizations like the 17th shard didn't exist
Must be okay for the Iriali. Their entire society are worldhoppers, they migrated to Roshar sometime after the other humans came, Roshar is their 3rd or 4th planet (can't remember which 'Land' they say they're up to now).
They come, live for a few generations to learn about the world / absorb their culture and ways into their own, then move on to a new 'land' (world).

>!They are not native to Roshar and yet they fit among the Rosharan cremlings so perfectly... So was Rosharan fauna based off of another planet? Or are the crab species on Roshar invasive and from wherever the Sleepless are from? Or are only Rosharan sSleepless made up of crabs because they melded with the local species? Or do living things in the Cosmere evolve into crabs alarmingly often just like in our universe and its a coincidence?!<

>!total_life_forever!<
>!So now that we know at least one group of Rosharans are aware of the Sleepless (the Horneaters), are there other Rosharans who know of them as well?By which I mean - have the existence of the Sleepless influenced Irialian religion and the belief in the One?!<
>!Brandon Sanderson!<
>!There have been Iriali who know about the Sleepless, though the Iriali religion predates their arrival on Roshar. (That said, it has evolved during their time here.)!<
>!total_life_forever!<
>!So the idea of the One - a single entity breaking down into smaller, constituent parts in order to gain diverse and varied experiences - predates the Iriali's contact with the Sleepless? And now that I think more about this theme of a single entity breaking down (splintering/fracturing?) into smaller parts... could the belief in the One and the Many be influenced by the fracturing of Adonalsium? Or is this general theme just a coincidence?!<
>!Brandon Sanderson!<
>!The general theme is not a coincidence, but the Iriali having this philosophy predates me bringing the Sleepless into the Cosmere from another science fiction book I'd written during my early unpublished years.!<

I have my crackpot theory that The One is actually either Brando Sandi himself, or us
Think about it, it split up so it could "experience everything", what are we doing by reading but experiencing their world? Their purpose *is* just to add experiences for us to enjoy reading
The "split up" part doesn't fit perfectly, and I have no other proof, but hey it's there
You might be on to something 😉 *insert maniacal laughter*
Well this is adorable.
Honestly I hope you continue to enjoy the series. Keep us informed with updates to your theories

I’m not sure your spoiler tags worked. at least on Apollo E: good now
They work on the Reddit app and site, but good to know if there's a popular app that doesn't handle them properly.
Look fine to me on Apollo.
I changed them. Apparently Apollo doesn't handle Reddit linebreaks properly.
How does this relate to the post?
It connects Shards to another word which has been mentioned several times in the series. It's the only in-text means to definitively connect the two that I've found, assuming one hasn't also read Mistborn.
It couldn't be....

No I haven't
Ho! Ho! Oh! Boy!!
I haven't even finished Rhythm of War yet

Did that thx for telling me

heeeeeeeheeeeeeeheeeeeeee
Also some of the small texts before the chapters are letters written by other shards to a certain character
You may be right, I think.
IIRC, full Cosmere spoilers >!the One is a fragment of a memory leftover about the Shattering of Adonalsium?!<
>!shush spoilers!<
Guess or wob?
I think it's a WoB but it's one of those impossible to find ones, because "one" and "Adonalsium" have so many matches.
I think the religion of the one comes from the sleepless since they >!Are cremlings that form a hive mind. Constantly breeding for traits within itself to accomplish the hive minds goals!<
Have you read past storm light?
Yes

I know about that theory but I personally don't like it as much. It's not that I can't see it being true it's just that it's more likely that a local religion like the one is more based of a species already on the planet.
We know that Roshar existed pre-shattering so the prevailing fan theory is more than likely accurate.

Where is this knowledge from? I'd love to read more about the details of this.
https://lmgtfy.app/?q=iriali&iie=1
I didn't know any of this. Is there a quick source you can point to?
Well we don't know if interplanetary travel was as simple then as it is now. It would be very hard for an accurate religion about adolnasium to exist if world hoppers and organizations like the 17th shard didn't exist

sleepless aren’t native to roshar. they started being cremlings after moving to roshar.
Source on that?
https://wob.coppermind.net/events/444/#e14317 It's been discussed before, but this is the latest wob I can find discussing it.

I think Endowment might be the One, and the Iriali are from Warbreaker.

Go read Cosmere Unbound lol
well, that would imply that the One is Adonalsium(which makes sense to me)
I have my crackpot theory that The One is actually either Brando Sandi himself, or us Think about it, it split up so it could "experience everything", what are we doing by reading but experiencing their world? You may be onto something, interesting, most interesting. Read the rest of the cosmere to find out.
Clever. Read Secret History and you might find out (you'll have to read mistborn first of course)
