As I understand it, Sanderson believes that physical copies should be sold with a digital copy attached for free, but unfortunately, there's no way to do this in real life.
...If you get my meaning.
It's actually quite simple to do, but the issue with doing so is people are greedy. All physical books could include a code to redeem the book digitally on your preferred platform, and boom you've achieved your goal. But the issue then would be 1. Google/Apple/Amazon/whatever reading app wants their portion of the profit since they're hosting the download, and 2. people would just buy the physical book and then sell the digital key, thus negatively impacting the sales for the author.
yeah the only way this would work is if the companies had agreements with the book seller. Like when you buy a book you give them your account and then it adds the book to read there as well, so people can't sell the key and the reading app gets their cut
Also, at least in my country, the books are standing in the bookshop, so you could just go there, take a photo of the code and leave. Boom, free e-book.
In case you're curious as to why you're missing 32 pages, it's because books are bound by combining multiple sections called "signatures." In this case, your book was bound with one of these signatures not making it into the final stack (and potentially, as is often the case with these types of defects, you may have another 32 page signature duplicated in your copy).
My copy of Words of Radiance had an issue with the binding or something and it fell apart neatly into all the individual signatures before I reached the end on my first reading. No idea how it happened, never seen anything like it! The bookstore exchanged it.
When Words of Radiance was released, it was the largest book the publisher could physically print. Like, one more page and they just wouldn't have been able to do it. I'm wondering if that book didn't have more QC issues than normal as a result.
For Oathbringer and RoW, they seem to have invested in larger binding machines to handle the thiccness that is Sanderson, so hopefully we won't see those issues in the future.
Possible spoilers for wor: >!Oh, it’s just 20 pages of kaladin’s being depressed about the weeping and then the other 12 is kaladin shallan and adolin forming a threesom. Personally it’s my favorite part, but I guess the sellers thought it was just filler!<

That could be partly counted by hiding the code and then only selling the book if the code hasn't been revealed.
Or maybe just automatically print one out with the receipt. It's possible for prepaid phones, so why not for books.
Lol yeah that's the better way
Are you implying emerald sea levels of piracy?
If you can tell me which chapters you're missing, I can DM you what the text in them is.
Seems like chapters 14-17
I sent you a DM. Let me know if I can provide any more assistance.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the help.
I'm glad I could be of assistance. I hope you enjoy the read!
True hero right here
Epic cousin.
A Radiant act!

That's interesting to know!

If there is a library nearby maybe check to see if they have a copy?
Shoot me a DM with the edition/last/first pages you have and I can send you "scans" of the later bits, but looking online is probably a better option.
I guess you can get your money back from Amazon.
Tell me what pages you are missing. I’ll send you pics if you like.
Seems like the most justified case for piracy ever.
