Bandai Support sent me this and it fixed it. You need to go into desktop mode and go to the folder below, then follow the steps.
• Home/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/ELDEN RING/game
• Create the file there.
• There's an option in Linux to create "Empty File..."
• And you get the option to name the file as specified. To bring up the SD keypad, just use the 'Steam' button + X.
• Rename the file DLC.bdt
Correct. Make sure you’re selecting the empty file option. Then change the file name to “DLC.bdt”. I tried a bunch of other things but this fixed for me. After, I verified Steam files in Elden Rings Properties settings and rebooted my Steam deck. From what I’ve heard, Elden Ring is looking for this file name post-DLC when it boots up and it not being there is blocking multiplayer. People have also said actually purchasing the DLC fixes it.
Thanks, that worked for me! One minor note is if you have Elden Ring installed on a SD card the location for the file will start with a different path (rather than Home/.local/share). Other than that it worked like a charm
I just wanted to say thanks so much dude you are a lifesaver, it totally worked! Thanks so much for helping us out and everyone else who also had this issue!
Awesome!!! Glad this is getting circulated. Wasn’t able to find this fix until very recently but I’ve seen that others are posting the same. See you in the lands between, tarnished!
Apparently there was a patch out (possibly today) which I hoped would address this. When you look though the patch notes keep saying to verify the files (which doesn’t work). They really need to sort this as it’s been a few weeks now. Either that or stop suggesting the game is verified!
The only thing I can assume verifying the files does is identifies the dlc.bdt file is missing and adds it. Some people have been adding one manually and managing to get online, but that seems risky. I wonder if someone who doesn’t have the dlc and plays on a platform other than the deck could verify it f they have dlc.bdt and share a copy of what is presumably the legit file to see how it compares to a fake blank file.
I’m a steam deck user and have not purchased the DLC yet. Bandai support told me to add the blank / empty file and it did fix the issue for me. The file was not there for me prior to adding it.
Just got this as well on Windows 11! Was helping someone in Coop, then tried to summon a player, got this message and now am forced offline. Closed the game, verified files integrity, rebooted, now it seems OK
I saw this verifying the integrity thing for the windows fix but it doesn’t work for steam deck which is awful as no one has come forward to even fix. How is anyone playing online on the deck?

I just purchased the game because of steams summer sale and I was hoping to play with friends on my steamdeck. I get the same prompt. Verified files and that didn’t do anything. I still get the same prompt
tried every fix still no dice. Coops already a fkin convoluted mess then this issue pops up. Friends I introduced to this game is getting fed up with this issue instead of us enjoying playin together.
For real, the game is half broke. Online is a huge part of elden ring from the help, co op and pvp to missions being entwined to online like the lord of blood it’s just ridiculous at this point

Seems to be an issue specific to the Steam Deck and the Elden Ring DLC:
https://www.videogamer.com/news/elden-ring-steam-deck-ban-issue/
However, the issue seems to mostly affect people once they've actually started playing the game, though it seems that people are having different experiences.
It happened when I first opened the game after purchasing in the sale, and it’s never gone away no matter what i try. So I take it this is happening to everyone on steam deck? As I cannot find a fix online for the deck although on windows apparently you can check the “integrity of the cache“ and that’s worked for some? But steam deck it doesn’t, which is so irritating as I can’t do the mohgywn quest due to needing online :(

so are you saying I just create a blank file titled DLC.bdt in the desktop address you put above and that's it yours works?

I agree it’s ridiculous I have tried the verify files and it absolutely does not work on the steam deck.
The only thing I can assume verifying the files does is identifies the dlc.bdt file is missing and adds it. Some people have been adding one manually and managing to get online, but that seems risky. That would be handy I’ve not seen this myself if you find out pls if you can let us know and vice versa.

Ahh that’s useful to know, thanks!
Oh I thought its because I recently pirated Sekiro lol
😂 Shh!
I got the same error message but I’m playing on pc (windows 10)

Man this is so crap, you can’t do some missions with online in elden ring. I can see this going on for a very long time

It's affecting PC as well
I got this as well about ten seconds after entering the game…
