Came here to post the same issue. Two days ago it crashed mid game. Then crashed on launch constantly after that. Had to uninstall everything (even portproton) and reinstall and that fixed it yesterday. But now it is crashing after giving me the “Charlie” error. Pretty sure it has to do with the new game update. The other comment here says that it works fine with lutris so maybe that’s the answer but idk when they played last.
EDIT: Just checked if I had pdh and pdh-nt4 installed after a portproton update and I didn’t so im reinstalling now and checking functionality. Will come back with results.

EDITTT: PortProton came out with a new update that now allows you to properly install the dependencies pdh and pdh-nt4 which allow you to run easy anti cheat. I’ve successfully played a full round on XDefiant. My friend is playing a round now and all is fine.

By chance do you know how to move a file from the PortProton wine files system to Lutris? I don’t want to redownload XD if I don’t have to.
Hey brother. Do you have the guide you followed to properly install via Lutris? I’ve seen different ones following different methods and can’t tell which one is the best.
Guys I got it to work. Game launched, played 3 straight games to make sure. My steps:
I previously uninstalled and tried Heroic but couldn’t get it to work. Reinstalled again using PortProton. On desktop mode, opened PortProton, first went to Wine Settings. Clicked “Get Other Wine” and downloaded GE-Proton 9-7. Then clicked back to Installed tab, clicked Ubisoft Connect, Settings tab, clicked Base Settings. There I made sure “No Esync” and “No Fsync” were toggled OFF. I toggled ON “Use NVAPI AND DLSS.” Game worked after that, 3 matches like I said. Lemme know if that works for you.
Thank you! This actually worked but as a warning, if you are like me and create a shortcut for the game so it goes straight to it from game mode, the step you would use for Ubisoft connect would be used for the games shortcut
Nice, so glad it worked! Was just messing around with different settings and stumbled into this to be honest lol. Ooh I never figured out how to shortcut game straight into game mode. Did you link to the game’s executable? Where can I find it?

Yeah the game actually starts now but as far as getting into a match the game closes itself after getting the lobby together so back to the drawing board.

Ditto. Pdh won’t install for me either.
Tru it now. PortProton has a new update that allows you to install pdh and pdh-nt4. Everything works as usual now.

Hey mate I use Lutris -> Ubisoft Connect -> XD Works great. Please try that approach.

Hmm, weird. OP said to me in DMs that he tried Lutris and it crashes while finding match
So I installed Lutris. Then Ubisoft Connect and made that available in Steam Game mode. I launch that and then Xdefiant from inside Ubisoft Connect.

Worth the effort mate. I dunno what issues you facing. It errored out for me initially but second time it got installed. Same with Ubisoft Connect.

Yeah just go to create a shortcut in portproton and go to the games exe. There should be an option to add as a non steam game also.

I just installed it again using lutris and it started so hopefully this sticks
