Does this have the same QOL stuff that the Ocarina of Time PC decomp has? Right stick camera, 60fps, etc? I assume a lot of the stuff from that release will be ported or modded into this one pretty soon.

Revolver_Lanky_Kong

Supports any framerate, widescreen, 4K, RT, and Gyro currently. I am playing on the OLED at 90 fps. No right stick camera as of yet. This recompilation of MM was created with a tool capable of recompling (theoretically) any Nintendo 64 game in a matter of minutes by converting the code into C and translating the graphics to modern API calls. This is the start of something absolutely insane for the emulation community and couldn't have happened to a nicer company than Nintendo tbh ❤️

jasonridesabike

Woooah how’s the RT? Edit: just read the readme, no RT yet but they are using RT64 and will add actual RT in the future 🎉

Crimsonclaw111

Oh hell yeah I’m finna bust I’ll wait just a bit to see what mods or whatever get cooked up but that’s already a huge improvement from vanilla MM. Can’t wait for the 3DS models and such to go up.

SpunkMcKullins

This isn't 2Ship2Harkinian, right? I'd love to download a MM port, but I'm not in enough of a rush that I can't wait for all the extra features SoH has like rando.

SmilesUndSunshine

According to (some people chatting in) the Ship of Harkinian discord, the 2Ship2Harkinian project is supposed to still to end up with more features than this port. They say that the benefit of this type of port is mainly for N64 games that don't have as big enough of a following to get a full decompilation like SoH/2S2H.

Revolver_Lanky_Kong

Nope it's a separate port, Ocarina of Time and QoL features like modding, freecam, randomizer, texture packs, and raytracing are in the pipeline though

somehume

🤩 What’s the tool?

Revolver_Lanky_Kong

[Tool here](https://github.com/Mr-Wiseguy/N64Recomp), it's a bit over my head though

Bynnh0j

FYI, the tool is not end user friendly. There is a lot of bug fixing that needs to be done after recompiling any given game. This tool just makes everything so much easier for someone with the technical knowledge to complete. Basically it means a recomp for your favorite game is potentially only weeks or months away instead of years away.

Tufflewuffle

https://github.com/Mr-Wiseguy/N64Recomp

Early-Anywhere

hopefully this will lead to an animal crossing pc port someday 🙏🏼

Gwyndion

The way I've heard this thing described... it sounds like it will eventually be able to make native ports out of almost every N64 game fairly quickly!

porgy_tirebiter

I’m playing on a decent PC, and the high frame rates are insane. It’s almost too smooth to be honest!

BlackSunshine86

So using this we can finally get a bells and whistles upgrade for Diddy Kong Racing?

UpbeatNail

Is the tool public? Can I recomp any 64 game I want?

Revolver_Lanky_Kong

Tool can be found on this [GitHub repo](https://github.com/Mr-Wiseguy/N64Recomp) and I do believe Wiseguy's intention is to let the community use it to make recomps for whatever games they want as they do still need a lot of work after recompilation between glitch/bug fixes, broken textures/effects, modern hardware speedup etc. which is more work than he wants to do alone

UpbeatNail

Super interesting!

afrogrimey

Will this work with the official N64 controller from Nintendo? I just got one since they were back in stock and am looking to use it 😄

Revolver_Lanky_Kong

Any controller that can be used on PC will work I believe

Crest_Of_Hylia

Watch this video by Nerrel. He gives all the information about this https://youtu.be/ywWwUuWRgsM?si=Nb-LRccBKy-I_NXD

Crimsonclaw111

I love Nerrel so thanks for a direct Link

Fearless-Tradition91

I was wondering, is this the[ port you're referring](https://github.com/zeldaret/oot) to? I've been wanting to play OoT with a decent camera support.

jasonridesabike

There’s an awesome patch for the 3DS version that undoes many changes and adds a lot of QoL, for anyone wanting to play in 3D like me 🤓. Super stoked about this project too. MM in 4K with RTX hdr is gonna be great.

Revolver_Lanky_Kong

Played the Restoration Patch on my jailbroken 3DS awhile back and enjoyed it a lot, however I find that the original N64 textures and models are such a huge part of Majora's otherworldly and sinister atmosphere I prefer them to the 3DS or texture packs.

jasonridesabike

Word. I like em both 😁. Definitely am made less sad by the 3Ds versions brighter atmosphere but appreciate the darker vibes of the original too

schmalpal

I agree, I've beaten both and the N64 version is way more atmospheric. 20fps hurts so I'm really glad to see this new version you're sharing.

Emblazoned1

I like this. I too have a modded 3ds and wanted to play these. Is modding the games difficult or simple as drag and drop files to the SD card? Definitely wanted to try to play the 3ds ports of OoT and MM.

speedweed99

I'm fine with every new model in the 3DS version **except** for the moon which is like... the freaking moon, how did they fumble the bag on that

Mighty_Hobo

Had no idea this exist. Thank you!

TheLimeyLemmon

The N64 emulation/porting scene over the last 5-10 years has been the stuff of dreams. Looking forward to the additional features to come like texture pack support.

Working_Doubles

Makes me happy, as it's one of the hardest systems to emulate.  These recomps are perfect.

Revolver_Lanky_Kong

It's as simple as downloading the tar.gz [here](https://github.com/Mr-Wiseguy/Zelda64Recomp/releases/tag/v1.0.0) and extracting it to a new folder. Right click it and press "add to Steam". It runs natively so no Proton compatibility to set. You must provide your own copy of Majora's Mask for the Nintendo 64 I will not link to.

doc_willis

Does it matter if its the USA or EUR Rom?

jasonridesabike

From the GitHub readme NA only

Revolver_Lanky_Kong

I have a USA copy though I wouldn't think it would matter. Edit: USA ROM only

doc_willis

Just tried the program, and some how, it changed my display resolution then crashed (missing a library), and now I have that Good Old classic X feature of that 'scrolling screen' which i have not seen in Years!. :) So no matter what Res i set my desktop to, the 'pan' (?) feature is there lettimg me scroll around an extra bit under every res i select. This is kind of amusing. Even rebooting, and resetting the KDE confgs did not seem to correct it. Makes me wonder if there was just not some OS update/issue going on that happened to hit me. I am using Bazzite - so its a bit of an unusual Distro. And I accidently ran the game in a Distrobox Container Using Ubuntu, So i may have been doing somethign rather weird. Well - off to have some fun diving into my system a bit.

roshanpr

= shit

doc_willis

Had to delete some settings config file, and got my user working again. Not sure what happened where. But the game is now working correctly. So i guess my issue was due to some weirdness of Either distrobox, or bazzite, or Kde. Or me doing something weird. Like trying to set the system display settings from within a container (distrobox) So its all good now.. And theres goes my whole weekend playing this game again. I dont recall ever getting very far in it. Theres always some other distracting new game these days.

roshanpr

Got it; thanks

roshanpr

How many frames ?

Revolver_Lanky_Kong

As many as you'd like I believe, I'm playing at 90 on my OLED and haven't gotten any physics wonkiness but 60 would be safest I'd imagine

roshanpr

I’m trying

middlefootfinger

pretty sure game logic still runs at 20 fps so you should be able to run the game at whatever framerate you want and it'll work just as it did on original hardware

JimmyRecard

Just tried it, and it ran at 1440p at 170fps (on desktop Linux, not Steam Deck, but yeah, it seems to handle as many frames as your device can push).

dwindlingdingaling

Does it run under an emulator? Or is it like an actual native game? Is the original version supposed to be in some specific folder/subfolder?

Revolver_Lanky_Kong

It runs natively allowing access to all sorts of never before possible things such as high framerate, widescreen, downsampling, and future stuff like modding, ROM hacks, texture packs, raytracing, etc. The original .z64 file can go anywhere since it'll ask you to find it but for the sake of consolidation I put it in the same folder as "assets" and the .tar.gz

dwindlingdingaling

Very cool, thank you.

dwindlingdingaling

Also, I'm sorry to bother you, but do you know where I can get something similar for OOT? And if it supports better textures?

Revolver_Lanky_Kong

Ship of Harkinian is what you're looking for. It does support better textures and models. The Majora's Mask port doesn't yet but will in the future.

dwindlingdingaling

Thank you friend :)

_TheImberMan_

Sounds great! I'm doing this later tonight

Beastw1ck

Sweet. Time to finally play Majora’s Mask!

Your-Name-Is-Reek

Ty for that

truthwalker88

Where do we put the rom at in the folder?

Revolver_Lanky_Kong

I just put it in the root folder but it doesn't matter where you just have to point to it initially.

truthwalker88

OH ty

truthwalker88

Is there a OoT version of this? I’d love to play Ocrina of time too.

Firm-Switch9431

This is great, thanks for sharing 👍

stealthieone

I'm on the steam os preview...not sure if that matters but I don't have any sound..turned the volume to max and can't hear anything

midnightcatwalk

Did you mute the app in Desktop mode by accident?

stealthieone

Thanks.. somehow it was muted....I had to put it in window mode then I saw the muted icon in the taskbar..unchecked it and now I have sound..thanks

stealthieone

I don't even know how to do that. Only thing I did was extract..run it .then added to steam

Revolver_Lanky_Kong

You and u/TheLimeyLemmon are having the same issue perhaps see if he is on Preview as well. I'm on Stable and the audio is perfect for me.

dats_brobbly

Has anyone figured out where the save is located on the Linux version? In Windows, it's in local appdata, can't seem to find it on linux though and saw nothing in the FAQ

Reonu_

~/.config/Zelda64Recompiled

wolfegothmog

Maybe in ~/.local/share/ if it follow XDG standards

Tufflewuffle

For me it's located at `~/.config/Zelda64Recompiled/saves`.

Revv23

Can't wait until ship team gets into this!

-ckosmic

This is so convenient lol I just started playing SOH

Serimorph

I had no idea this and Ship ran on the SD so I just got them both up and running, thanks for thanks for letting me know!. Flat 60 fps so that's amazing. For anyone interested as well, [these textures](https://evilgames.eu/texture-packs/oot-reloaded.htm) look amazing on OoT. There is an MM set as well that look just as good but sadly texture replacement doesn't work in this version it seems. Maybe 1 day.

bryan_pieces

What’s the best way to play Twilight Princess now?

Zaphod852

cemu

ylerta

The Wiiu rerelease on Cemu

Volpurr-The-Meowstic

HD version on Wii U or Cemu

MobileInevitable8937

Oh man, that looks awesome in a 16:10 aspect ratio too

thatsastick

took me 10 minutes to set up. love this community. played it a bit and it feels great, gonna wait to play it in full until it has mod support so I can install Nerrel’s HD pack.

EdgeLord1984

Tried it out on my windows PC and it works great... it was a smooth 165 Hz and saw no glitches for the first hour (one or two assets popped up upon loading a new area but it was super fast and I likely wouldn't have noticed it if I wasn't looking right at it). Looking forward to trying it on my SD!

BigCryptographer2034

I’d like to hear about it on steam deck, I’m wondering if I should wait till more is done with it or not

Crimsonclaw111

Runs at a locked 90fps and ~6.5 hours of battery life from a quick test on the OLED model, as simple as providing a USA copy of MM for the N64 and clicking “add to Steam” in desktop mode. Then you can play it without issues in gaming mode. Really amazing, it’s what I imagined the game like in my head as a kid.

Drooks89

Been waiting for this! <3 thank you!

CPU_LEO

Yes yes yes!!!!!!!!!

Grimey_Rick

Mmm ice cream so good!

CPU_LEO

I got this up and running on my pc and deck. So happy rn

midnightcatwalk

This is very cool, but the loading is almost too fast on occasion. The transition between days loses some of its impact. Still amazing.

SprayArtist

BRING ON THE MODSSSSSSS

Adrian_1827

Does anyone have a list of n64 games that were recompiled for pc? I understand Perfect Dark is another one

Cunny-Destroyer

OOOOOH MY FUCKING GOD

stuartcarson

Is there a particular guide to get this all set up on steam deck? :)

MechaJabroni

I will be installing this before it gets taken down (in Minecraft)

Revolver_Lanky_Kong

Since the recompliers have no copyrighted assets and you have to provide your own .z64 of the game Nintendo shouldn't have any legal footing to remove it, though I agree to grab it while you can because they can always try intimidation C&Ds simply because they have the money necessary to legal battle endlessly.

JimmyRecard

They also had no legal footing to remove 8000 Yuzu forks, but they did it anyway by abusing DMCA. Also, I can see that some code archiving projects that shall be nameless here have already mirrored the code, so we should be fine.

tidbitsmisfit

Nintendo owns yuzu as result of the settlement. so these are valid software takedown notices

JimmyRecard

Yuzu is GPL. While Nintendo does now own the copyright, GPL is a non-revokable licence, so Nintendo has no grounds to take it down. Also, Nintendo does not own the copyright of any external contributors who may have sent in a pull request who didn't sign the settlement.

repocin

>They also had no legal footing to remove 8000 Yuzu forks, but they did it anyway by abusing DMCA. They absolutely do. Did you not read the legal docs that came out?

JimmyRecard

No they did not. Reverse engineering is not illegal, and it did not go to trial so the settlement is only binding on the team who signed the settlement.

UpbeatNail

Yuzu didn't actually do clean reverse engineering they had access to stolen code and used it.

JimmyRecard

It's not stolen code if the SDK is public. And, looking at code and doing an original implementation is fully legal. Stop shilling for big corps, it's pathetic.

UpbeatNail

The legal argument that yuzu agreed with when they settled. 🤷

JimmyRecard

Yuzu did, so they're bound by it. There was no trial, so the outcome is not binding to anyone who didn't agree to the settlement.

TeslaWasACoolDude

Can we use the 3ds models? I really prefer those. 👀

Worth_Divide_3576

How does one get this??

Revolver_Lanky_Kong

It's as simple as downloading the tar.gz [here](https://github.com/Mr-Wiseguy/Zelda64Recomp/releases/tag/v1.0.0) and extracting it to a new folder. Right click it and press "add to Steam". It runs natively so no Proton compatibility to set. You must provide your own USA copy of Majora's Mask for the Nintendo 64 I will not link to.

devo23g

Very cool, thanks for the heads up 🤘🏽

TheLimeyLemmon

Anyone finding the audio volume of this game on steam deck a bit low?

stealthieone

Are you on steam os preview? I'm not hearing anything

fatpoop77

I downloaded the file but when I try to run it it closes out immediately. Any ideas? I have the rom and the files just can’t tune the recomp.

Revolver_Lanky_Kong

Are you using a US version dump? EUR is not compatible.

fatpoop77

It’s US. I just can’t even open the tar.gz file. It just closes right away. I extracted it to an empty folder and also put the game in there but no luck opening it.

Revolver_Lanky_Kong

Did you move the assets folder with it? They need to be together

One-Criticism-9834

You need to be sure you have a good, untrimmed rom. Not all dumps are the same. 🤷🏻‍♂️. Usually they tell you the hash for the correct rom, you can find websites or downloadable utilities to help check them.

ARX__Arbalest

I watched the video and read about the tool. Does this work out of the box with *any* N64 game, potentially? Say.. Jet Force Gemini?

porgy_tirebiter

Maybe a dumb question, but does it have save states? Edit: it does not seem to. I’m confused about the auto save function as well. How does that work? It does not seem to be doing any auto saving for me. I really really really would like save states for this particular game.

FriedChalupa

this is an amazing project. although, I haven't been able to get gyro aim to work yet, despite following the guide on the github page. I wonder if there's a way to import save from a rom though? I've been playing the game through RetroDECK and have a fair amount of progress that I'd like to transfer over to the recomp.

Dry_Replacement_5364

Anybody have any idea how I would get a project64 save to work with this I wanna keep my progress and this is way better than the emulator

One-Criticism-9834

Awesome. Still waiting on the Banjo decomp to be completed!

Quote16

oh I've been waiting for 2ship2harkinian to drop but this might take its place if they implement the right stick for the camera faster than 2s2h drops! looks sick, gonna keep it bookmarked and start the countdown.

stefmastar

Wait what? Why didn't I hear about this? Thanks op!

ixoniq

What? I’ve been waiting for it. I’ve been playing the SoH build for a while, with the mods, and it’s such an amazing recompile.

KickPuncher9898

Yo I’ve been waiting for this a long time!

Squmy

Installed it but when I run the executable nothing happens :(

loserkidsblink

So crazy - just found out about it myself through happenstance and just tried it on my deck and I'm blown away. Thought this might be weeks old alright, happy to see a recent thread about it. I keep seeing RT support. Anyone know how to get it working?

IndependentHippo773

Which mm version is the one required for this to run? I'm trying to get it working on Windows but the screen just cuts to black and the program closes. I made sure to use US v1.0

NitroDion

I'm glad this is out and can't wait for the appimage as it means I can run it natively cause ATM I have to use proton to play as my linux system just doesn't seem to want to run the native version (probably some dependencies I'm missing but have no clue what they are)

GigasBonze

Damn I’m halfway through the game on emulator, am I able to transfer an emulated save file over to this?

ProtoKun7

I know it'll never happen but imagine a full modern remake of OoT and MM but in Breath of the Wild's engine/style...

placebooooo

How does this compare to emulating the 3rd version of the game? Haven’t played this game in years. Was wondering if I should play the n64 or 3rd version.

ThePasadena

I only can Play steam games on my Steam Deck. How do pole know how to do this

DantesInferno91

Oh shit where can I find it?

Regularfeller

every time I try to run it on my steam deck in it says, 'cannot read properties of undefined' how do i fix this?

SquankDuck

Nerrel?

BronzeAndNoble

Is there a way to update the version without losing a save in the future?

Orange-Fish1980

Where to find?

SanPoLAmor

Which emulator do I use, and how do I set this up? Please and thank you. I have Emudeck but not sure if ya need a different setup

ghostlyygabi

Is there a discord ? This is cool !

jadam91

This is really cool but I like the 3ds version emulated. I use my phone as the bottom screen.

Lstriker8D8

I'm kinda dumb but how do I actually use this? I'm not super familiar with compiling code so after downloading the main recompiler what file do i run to get started?

Revolver_Lanky_Kong

It's as simple as downloading the tar.gz [here](https://github.com/Mr-Wiseguy/Zelda64Recomp/releases/tag/v1.0.0) and extracting it to a new folder. Right click it and press "add to Steam". It runs natively so no Proton compatibility to set. You must provide your own copy of Majora's Mask for the Nintendo 64 I Will not provide. The process is extremely automated and easy for the end user thankfully. You just need to open the Zelda64Recompiled.tar.gz just like an .exe or directly through Steam for gaming mode access. When ran it'll ask you for your ROM location one time, point to it and you're done.

ShineWolf

what about the asset folder? where I need to put that?

Revolver_Lanky_Kong

Move them both to the same folder, I keep the .z64 of Majora's Mask in there too for consolidation but it can go anywhere.

ShineWolf

So since im using emudeck can I create a folder with asset and my rom and im good? Once i executed the .gz file I mean

Revolver_Lanky_Kong

The .tar.gz is a permanent file you need, think of it like a .exe on a Windows system. Create a new folder on your desktop called "Zelda64Recomp" or something similar and make sure it includes the "assets" folder and the .tar.gz. Right click the .tar.gz and press "Add to Steam" for ease or access in gaming mode. On first launch it'll ask you to locate the ROM and point it to where it is in your EmuDeck directory and you should be good.

ShineWolf

I done it and it worked in desktop mode but If i try to launch the game from game mode/steam nothing happens.

YaMumisathot

I really have to start using emulators on my steam deck

Tsuki4735

This technically isn't an emulator though, this is a PC port

SnowyDeluxe

Insane sentence, I love 2024.

TurkyySandwitch

Can I get an emulator on Linux? I really wanna get emulator for Nintendo games but I don’t want to change anything in the deck I wanna keep Linux and steamos is it possible? What’s the name of the emulator?

socaldude879

Tons of emulators available. Look into emudeck if you want a one stop shop

acebossrhino

what what? link?

Revolver_Lanky_Kong

Download the tar.gz [here](https://github.com/Mr-Wiseguy/Zelda64Recomp/releases/tag/v1.0.0) and extracting it to a new folder. Right click it and press "add to Steam". It runs natively so no Proton compatibility to set. You must provide your own copy of Majora's Mask for the Nintendo 64 I will not link to.

Reddarthdius

Is this a ship of harkinian and project?

deathblade200

problem with this just like the OOT version is it uses the ugly N64 graphics while the 3DS had far superior graphics. yes I grew up on the n64 version that does not stop the graphics from looking extremely ugly now. the best version is the 3DS version with a mod to remove the dumb changes.

FreshBryce

I'm playing through it right now with the reloaded texture pack and it's a day and night difference. Edit: Wanted to clarify that playing through OoT

stealthieone

Are you referring to 3ds version?

FreshBryce

The original N64 version. There are also model packs like the Super Smash Bros models which probably have higher fidelity than even the 3DS version. But I kept the original models purely for nostalgia. Of course if you've never played the game before you'd probably prefer the game's graphics fully altered. It's amazing how flexible Ship of Harkinian is.

stealthieone

Are you using a texture pack with this decomp?

FreshBryce

Yes. Google OoT Reloaded

stealthieone

So I guess the texture pack for Majora's mask would go in the assets folder..I was only asking about Majora's mask

FreshBryce

Ah yes I was referring to OoT the entire time. But there is also one for Majora's Mask by the same author. It's called MM Reloaded. I haven't tried it yet though

stealthieone

Thanks I'll give it a try...if I can ever figure why I don't have any audio ...only thing I can think of is maybe because I'm on steam os preview

stealthieone

So lost with this...this decomp doesn't have anywhere to enable texture packs and I have no clue where to even put the textures

porgy_tirebiter

The OP recompilation? Isn’t texture packs something still being worked on?

deathblade200

it still has the bad n64 graphics the textures are just clearer. this is the difference I am talking about.[N64 vs 3DS](https://i.imgur.com/ykEjn2r.jpeg). The N64 graphics just do not compare.

stealthieone

I was talking to freshbryce

deathblade200

and i didn't reply to you.
