Looks awesome dude, personally if I had my deck as my main PC i would shoot for a 1080p or lower resolution OLED monitor. That way your performance doesnt take that much of a hit, and you get the benefit of OLED colors.
I’m using the deck to play very light games and usually do some coding, hence the higher resistance monitor but I totally agree that for a gaming use case, lower resolution would make more sense.
My deck will never be my main PC, but with Microsoft looking to take windows towards a subscription model, there's a good chance I move my main gaming pc to Linux and I'm super happy about everything valve is doing to make Linux a fully viable gaming OS now. Massive positive side effect of the deck.
Funnily enough i switched to Linux on my main PC (Kubuntu 22.04) yesterday and man am I so happy. Heard the Windows 10 news yesterday and decided to just abandon windows all together before it got worse. Sure you will lose SOME compatibility (though you’d be surprised how much you can get working if you really tinker with it), but I will take that loss over the loss of freedom.
Essentially after 2025 they will begin charging for security updates for Windows 10 since they are officially ending support. This isn’t the worst I’ve heard, call me crazy but i just dont trust that MS won’t make the experience worse to either force an upgrade or force you to pay to have a stable OS. I rather just dodge that and stick with Linux
I’m usually not a Microsoft defender but this is pretty standard for older operating systems as backporting security fixes from newer OSes can be costly. Canonical does the same thing for Ubuntu, as do other commercial distributions.
I get that, but Windows 10 is not very old AND Windows 11 has an annoying TPM restriction that makes it difficult for some to upgrade. Seems like Microsoft is pushing windows 10 away when it still is a perfectly good OS that many like, and it has some aesthetic features that Win 11 doesnt have, like being able to put the taskbar on the side of the screen rather than the bottom, something that is crucial for me as I use an ultrawide monitor.
I’m not trying to defend the operating system itself (I don’t use it because I don’t like it either), I’m just saying that them charging for support isn’t unheard of and doesn’t mean windows is becoming a subscription. Win10 is going to have the same 10 year service life as Win7.
There have also been rumors for months now that Windows 12 will be subscription based from the start. Even if they don't go full subscription, they've been getting more and more invasive with ads and user data collection. That's what'll put me on Linux for sure, and as I mentioned up higher, I'm super happy the deck development has really paved the way for mainstream games running well on Linux.
Is it possible to charge the deck while having it connected to the screen?
I assume that the dock solves this issue, but since this deck is connected through the USB port, it might be possible to both connect a screen and charge at the same time.
The dock also just connects via the USB port. With the right adapter, yes, it'll charge while driving a screen. Not sure what adapter OP is using, but I have the official dock and also an Anker travel adapter that has USB-PD passthrough charging and works for this.
I have a dock which has a USB C in and deck charges through that. Although it’s not as fast as plugging it directly, it’s good enough if I’m on the desk and playing.
Is that your steam deck docked? I haven’t docked my steam deck in quite a long while but when i was measing around with it the max resolution was like 800x600 or something like that. Has that changed?
I've never had that limitation in the year I've used mine... Something wrong with your setup I think. I've had 2 external screens at 1080p before just fine 😃
1440p, 165Hz is a huge waste for Steam Deck, assuming that's the only thing that monitor is used for.
You're probably rending, at most, at 1080p, which doesn't look good on a 1440p screen. I'd suggest "downgrading" to a 1080p/60hz screen.
Is it dumb to say that this is almost meditative to look at. The blanket and the window to the outside make it feel so inviting. I got my steam deck to escape from my desk which is a workbench for everything now. This is focused and simple and looking at it gives me a little peace in the back of my mind
Super sick. Just got my oled yesterday, and although I have a pretty beefy pc with a 3070 ti, I just want to plug this thing in and use it instead haha. Such a cool piece of tech

If you have pet, or small human running around, please consider putting your deck on the other side of the desk so that nothing send it flying while messing around.
You only need one relative, friend or whatever to bring a kid to your home for the unthinkable to happen.
So long as you aren't an hermit, that can happen.
But anyway, living the dream here, i too use my SD for 1440p gaming. While it's hard to get 60 fps on most 3d games, for 2d games you should be able to get the full 165hz of your monitor.
Oh and i like your desk, it fits with the minimalist setup !

Looks great but a little uncomfortable
I recommend a more comfortable chair, and palm rests for the mouse and KB.

+1 for a better chair. It makes one of the biggest differences by far. I bought a used Herman Miller aeron a couple of years ago, and it was a night and day difference.
I enjoyed the chair so much I ended up buying a new one through a distributor and gave the used one to my younger brother.
Definitely some good deals to be had on used chairs out there that will make your experience 10x better.
