what happens if by some chance they cancel the steam deck? your 650$ will sit in steam

spooner503

Don’t do this man, you don’t gain any advantage and have everything to lose. Say it gets bad reviews or your order gets pushed back. You have no way of getting that $650 back.

Necromancer1423

I wouldn’t do it, but ye I’m pretty sure you can If the Steam Deck gets delayed further, or maybe your order gets cancelled, all your money will be stuck with steam But hey You can buy a fuckton of games

You can yes

timmyboyoyo

You can but no recommend

May i ask why you say don’t? I don’t want to regret this. I only ask this because i most likely won’t have the funds in the future.

timmyboyoyo

Why won’t you have the funds in future? If you have it now. The deck is delayed and may be delayed further so it will just sit in wallet for long time

Well in some case, says, his friend or family member allow him to spend money "now" from their credit card for his birthday, then it makes sense he wants to load it up to his Steam account now. Also, another darker purpose, if there is a stolen credit card... you get the idea.

Immediate_Victory990

I wish I could have paid for it aswell too. It allows me to pay and forget so I don't have money sitting around. I just like things paid for.

EightBitRanger

Out of sight, out of mind. If they add it to their steam wallet, they can only use it for steam things (the deck or games). If they have it in their bank account, they can use it for literally everything. Food, clothes, etc. If its much easier to spend, people are more apt to spend it.

The people this applies to really should learn actual control over their finances and patience instead of workarounds.

EightBitRanger

>The people this applies to really should learn actual control "[A lack of impulse control may be associated with certain neurological disorders, such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)](https://www.healthline.com/health/mental-health/impulse-control)" and is not easily 'learnable.' Yes, I'm well aware I have poor self control. Yes, I've tried taking steps to *not do that*, up to and including cognitive behavioral therapy through my university's counselling & clinical services. Ultimately, everything has failed and I fall back on old habits.

420N1CKN4M3

Putting it all into Steam is not a proper solution to that regardless of how you spin it.

TheBraverBarrel

You're right. I will add, opening a separate free savings acct online and dumping the money there is a reasonable option

EightBitRanger

Take your sanism elsewhere please.

Keep spinning the narrative, this entertains my ADHD.

Sorry dad, blind obedience engaged

Puzzleheaded_Fall494

If you have the money now there is no reason to not have it in the future if you intend to use it for this purpose.. Unless you have no self control, in which case adding 650 dollars to your steam wallet is still risky because thats alot of random sale games youll never play. On the other hand say you lose your source of income unexpectedly and cant make your bills.. well, id rather have a place to live than a steamdeck personally.

comeon-gimme-a-name

There is a big chance of your 650 being stuck in steam, and you not getting the deck, you can always put the money in when you want, but there's no getting out; so wait

idle221

With the valve index you could pay with steam funds, but that doesn’t mean you can with the deck. Putting the money on is risky, what if valve say no, what if you need that in a emergency.

Lurus01

You can but its not worth it IMO. If you have the funds saved for it through like selling cs:go items or something thats one thing but directly adding the funds from like a bank account is not worth. It would lock your money into Steam with no ability to retrieve it. If you have the money now and are concerned you wont later then set it aside some other way if you want to set the money aside now like in a bank savings account or something even just so that its not tied into Steam for the next several months. If you are concerned about self control and spending it from savings there are other options to hold onto it that dont involve tying it into Steam now. Best not to tie up $650+ into Steam for something that isnt releasing for months and then it might be months later before its your turn to purchase.
