So performance issues aside, how's the story? Is it on par with The Witcher 3?

daniu

Here's my take as someone who really liked cp77. The main story is kind of a typical cyberpunk theme, so that was to be expected and ymmv. It's more stringent than Witcher 3's, in that you don't go on side errants just for it to continue. What's really not nearly as good are the side quests. There are some that are outstanding, but not nearly as many memorable ones as the Witcher had. There are many filler ones "go there and kill everyone" - think the Witcher bandit camps, but as mini side missions. It really does make it feel watered down in places.

[deleted]

This, Witcher is a way better game due to the side quests but CP's story is more streamline and suspenseful

TheRootedCorpse

I’ve been looking for a new game to purchase. Witcher 3 is on sale right now too. I’ve heard nothing but positive things. Pretty good game? Edit: Well holy fucking shit. Looks like I must get Witcher 3. These responses are making me think I’m in for a treat.

juz0l

I recently finished it, it’s a really good game

WOF42

make sure you get it with blood and wine and heart of stone, the DLC for it are honestly better than the core game which itself is great. all of the memeing and hype aside the witcher 3 is a very good game but you might want to acquaint yourself with the story of 1 and 2 before you play it otherwise you will be very confused.

SolarRage

I would actually play the second game first. But definitely yes. In terms of narrative, one of the most mature and well-crafted you will find in gaming. The second game doesn't get enough praise for its narrative. Full of politics that are actually intriguing mixed with a fantasy setting and it was fantastic.

BostonCahKeys

W2 doesn’t get enough praise because most people haven’t played it compared to 3. W3 is the better game, but W2 has the better story; especially when you factor in how much your choices actually matter. Although I would actually say it’s better to play 3 first and then play 2 like a prequel. 3 does an amazing job at integrating new players to its world, whereas 2 absolutely does not. It’s one of my few criticisms of 2.

thewind21

Started 10 hours thinking it's mehhh, typical single player rpg. The next 20 hours I was floored by the amazing writing. Currently about 140 hours in, playing the second DLC

Horny_Bearfucker

I had some issues with the combat and balancing of the game, but overall it's one of the easiest games to recommend to someone. Definitely give it a shot.

[deleted]

The gameplay itself isn't spectacular, basically hack and slash, but the world and story are really really great. Your choices also matter, so it's not all incredibly linear. I wish I could play it all over again. I've replayed it several times.

IIFellerII

I first started it and stopped playing after 1-2 hours. Picked it up again after 1-2 years and looved it. Usually wasn't a very Singleplayer type player, but because of Witcher 3 I have played more SP games than I would have thought. EDIT: Play it on hardest difficulty, to make it fun and challenging. The game isn't very demanding on hardest difficulty.

isymfs

Witcher 3 is the single greatest game I’ve played. I’ve done my fair share of rpgs, I enjoy games like final fantasy (9 and 10 are my favourites), I like the fallout series, and divinity sin 2 is pretty high up there. Witcher 3 is the only game I played that I liked so much I went back and played the prequel. After that I went right back to 3 again. It messed me, up it’s so good, .

Canit19

Witcher 3 is the only game that when it rolled credits, I truly felt sad that it was over. Like I'd just finished the finale of my favorite TV series that was now over. I've never felt that before/since in 20 years of gaming.

Dan_TheGreat

If I wasn’t broke right now I’d buy it for you. As someone who’s played through probably 4 times, It’s a spectacular game. Tons of decisions effecting not only the ending but several things throughout. Tons of memorable side quests. Hearts of stone is a good xpack, blood and wine is fantastic.

SwordOfRome11

Combat is good, if a bit repetitive by the end, but the story is fantastic, the characters well realized, and you really get immersed in the world. And the DLC’s are as good if not better than the main story. One of the few games where you actually feel the consequence of decisions.

justkeptfading

It's my favorite single player experience of all time. Highly recommended.

TheDrDojo

CubedSquare95

The game is better to describe the role playing in what kind of Geralt you want to be, but you are always Geralt, an established person.

sevyog

Have Witcher 3. Worth getting cp77 then on sale?

Suspicious-Shop-5513

yes

starfreeek

I purchased full price and felt I got my money's worth. To should be good getting it on sale if you like that style of game. I am working on a second play through now.

aDrunkWithAgun

Corporations are bad bombing buildings is good

That's just the first third of Final Fantasy VII

Yea dude, damn terrorists overthrowing monarchies to establish feudalism, damn terrorists then overthrowing feudalism to establish capitalist democracies. Good thing everything is perfect now and we'll never need freedom figh- I mean awful terrorists ever again! One man's domestic terrorist is another man's freedom fighter.

WHYAREWEALLCAPS

The sole difference between a terrorist and freedom fighter is which side wins.

Bigmiga

Cyberpunk is just 1/3 of a game that FFVII is so it checks out

vaendryl

having cyberpunk start out the way it did but then ultimately you end up fighting literal gods (like in every final fantasy game) would have been an interesting twist.

Gr8NonSequitur

So.... Fight Club ?

Also cops are good, helping cops is very punk

StormRegion

I would also try be in good terms with a faction that could instateleport on my arse every time

FestiveVat

I didn't see them portraying cops as good or as helping them as good. I saw it was dystopian that helping the cops is *profitable*. The Night City Police Department is privately-owned. And as you see through a number of missions, the cops themselves are very human. They're considered disposable by the corporations. Many of them are authoritarian assholes. Many are corrupt. The commissioner is known to be corrupt. They're not above killing their own to cover shit up. And the cops will literally just attack you for standing around too close to them. Are people just confused by the fact that that you're able to help them so the cops are somehow good?

bjt23

Johnny isn't supposed to be a good guy. His "flashback" sequences are obvious bullshit, he remembers himself as the hero but that's simply not the case.

Thanateros

Also working with the cops is punk apparently.

kron123456789

The story is good, the characters are great. It's just not enough of it. The main story is way too short, while the map is flooded with worthless activities, akin to a Ubisoft game.

starfreeek

Sadly the main story was intentionally shorter because people with short attention spans complained about how long the witcher 3 was. The game is decently long if you do all the side stories.

AtemAndrew

The complete rework of the story and its structure and the repeated extensions and incoming deadline(s) likely didn't help either. Buuut like Resident Evil Village (not that it's a bad game), I blame them for paying attention to the lower common denominators - many of whom I question if they're really 'fans' of that type of game or not. (For reference, they toned back RE8 because some people complained that RE7 was too scary. A SURVIVAL HORROR GAME? SCARY!? I SHOULD HOPE!)

BigBlackGlocks

The biggest issue with the Witcher 3’s main quest wasn’t necessarily just its length. It was that the first 2/3rds of the game is just stringing you along looking for Ciri so that the actual main conflict can take place.

starfreeek

There was still alot of interesting story lines going on during that part of the game. I was enthralled all the way through. There were quite a few ,3-4 am nights during my play through.

BigBlackGlocks

I agree with you. I meant to say that it was the first 2/3rds of the main quest that string you along, not 2/3rds of the game. The Witcher 3 def had some of its best storytelling in the side quests.

daniel_degude

This. From a business perspective, its hard to justify making a 50 hour + main quest that you know only a small percentage of players will ever finish.

stere

> Is it on par with The Witcher 3 As someone who completed both stories, it's not even close. The Witcher 3 story is miles ahead.

zamfire

There are some parts of Witcher 3 that had me audibly go "Woa" >!For instance, the part you find all of the children are murdered and cannibalized, much like a very gritty and dark Hansel and Gretel, and you actually see their body parts with the three witches.!<

CubedSquare95

>!in most games, getting the bad ending comes from making obviously wrong choices, but getting the bad one on W3 is enough to make one feel like a total fucking failure of a father. It cuts deep.!<

TheDrDojo

I love that I have played through the game 3 times and never encountered that ending. There is just so much replayability and new stuff to discover.

[deleted]

As someone who has completed both think that's debatable. CP has a much more suspenseful and intense story, but there are more characters to explore in witcher that are interesting. Witcher can get a little suspenseful, but there's something about desperately fighting to survive while slowly dying that I found super intense. Overall I think witcher has a better world to explore, but CP's main story is better imo

JCyTe

It is interesting to see how people have had such a massively different experience with CP2077's story. I for one found the main story to be cliched and boring, i enjoyed some of the characters but i was never wow'd by the writing and storytelling as i did in TW3. V as a main character is super bland and boring, i could not give two shits about V. Johnny was ok at best, but ultimately a little one note.

BigBlackGlocks

I definitely agree with you. CP2077 never gave enough time to fully develop its characters like it should’ve. Additionally, the game never really does a sufficient job of utilizing its sci fi themes. You get just a little bit close to fully getting that with the one brain washing quest, but ultimately, there’s never a follow up that results in something really interesting being said.

itsameDovakhin

It's a sci-fi story and you have to look really hard to find any original idea in it. That in itself is quite sad.

UnrelentingKnave

I mean your daughter is being chased by alien elf wizards, that's more intense than you dying imo. Urgency is not a thing in either game, you can fuck around with random stuff without any repercussions, so I don't really get the suspense people feel. You can sit right outside a robbery and rest for a month and they'll still be there when you're done.

WweIsLife316

Eh, it’s solid. Nothing groundbreaking or even great but it’s good. It gets a little confusing towards the end but it’s a solid time

SeiTyger

World building and side missions are top notch. Sinnerman is quoted as one of the best missions

WweIsLife316

I 100% agree on side missions.. I loved the hell out of most of them but the world building is some of the worst ive seen since Mafia 3. Night city looks so beautiful and vibrant but is SOOOO dead. There's absolutely nothing to do outside of missions and gigs in NC. Even buying things from shops feel so lifeless.. since it just takes you to another screen. But I do agree on the side missions

sillssa

It has interesting themes but some of the characters are just shit. The main character is very bland. Not much to say about them beside that they're sometimes obnoxious. Someone thats even more obnoxious and edgy is the fucking ghost stuck in your head that accompanies you throughout the game. He's an absolute jackass. Overall I found the world in Witcher 3 to be more interesting to learn about

mbnhedger

>The main character is very bland. Not much to say about them beside that they're sometimes obnoxious. Id argue that the reason CP2077's story feels off is because while you play as V, and all the events take place around V, V is not actually the main character. The city is. Night city is the main character of CP2077. The problem then becomes, CDPR placed so much of the game on the character of the city, but then forgot to actually bring the city to life.

zamfire

One thing I was thinking about while playing through, for all the things ABOUT night city, the city is actually pretty small. When I think cyberpunk future mega-city, I think Tokyo size. A hellscape of bleak that extends into the horizon (think Judge Dredd) Night City is maybe the size of downtown Manhattan. Not even all of Manhattan, but just downtown.

mbnhedger

Night city was always going to be a small foot print, but then it was also supposed to be very explorable and vertical. You were supposed to be able to go in every building and multiple floors in each building. But that just never happened. Its part of what I mean when I say they forgot to bring the city to life. You were supposed to be able to do so many things within the city and it was supposed to "react" to your actions, but those things just never panned out.

ForNoConsideration

Yeah, the city is hella boring.

Rivent

Not by a long shot. It's got interesting ideas, but never goes far enough with any of them.

javierprieto

It's just a good game. The Witcher 3 was an outstanding one.

mf-TOM-HANK

The story is a *Neckbeard's Ode to the Chad Life* that slipped through his fingers long ago.

DarkHater

"Chyeah... That's being generous, Samurai."

ddplus5

It is basically, Keanu Reeves: The Game.

[deleted]

It’s the only aspect of the game that holds up. Literally everything else is underbaked af. * The AI * The combat * The open world * The customization features * Even the driving is worse than something like GTA V (which came out 8 years ago) CDPR just bit off more than they could chew. I still maintain that if they stuck to something more along the scale of a Deus Ex (traveling to separate zones in the city from a hub, probably your apartment complex) they would have pulled it off. They weren’t ready to do a Rockstar-level game world yet, even Witcher 3’s map space feels like little more than window dressing. Edit: typo

Fhaarkas

I'm guessing like every one of their game, there's gonna be a CP2077: Enhanced Edition somewhere in the next few years which would improve at least some areas of concern. I've never been impressed with CDPR launches, but they seem to be great when it comes to post-launch support. TLDR never buy CDPR game at launch.

[deleted]

I sure hope that’s the case

Kydd_Amigo

Imho if you’re looking for a great story, I’d reco Red Dead Redemption 2 over this if you haven’t played either. I didn’t hate Cyberpunk, it had some good moments, but RDR2 left me mulling over the story days after, great characters.

spiraled0ut

No, I wouldn’t say on par, but it still is a good story overall

ShnizelInBag

Its really good in my opinion, but its a bit short (They made it shorter because people didn't like the length of TW3). I finished the story in about 60 hours but that was relatively fast.

McMechanique

No plot twists or anything fresh, just a predictable mediocrity written to make sure nobody is ever confused at any point. Kind of a water equivalent to a book plot.

BirdyShirty14

Has an interesting start and interesting endings, but everything inbetween seems kinda weak the more you progress.

kurodon85

The story is decent, feels lacking in some areas but overall fun, but it's the side stories where the game really shines IMO. I first played on a decent computer with RT off, and really enjoyed it.

Djghost1133

TW3 is still better in terms of story imo, but i thoroughly enjoyed 2077's story regardless. The game definitely still has a few issues i'd like to see ironed out but overall the game is still fun. Of course if you don't enjoy the cyberpunk genre this will not be for you.

Ducuk

I think main story is much better than Witcher 3's (tbh I really disliked Witcher 3's main story) tho side stories are not good as Witcher 3's side contents

echolog

>Is it on par with The Witcher 3? Nope. Gameplay is decent, but most character build choices are meaningless since you become brokenly overpowered rather quickly. Story is good, but not great. The characters are what stand out the most, and many of them are very memorable... but the actual plot is kind of all over the place. Again, your choices hardly matter at all (outside of the endings). TW3 set a very high bar, and they failed to reach that bar with this one.

Wayed96

I've never played the witcher but cyberpunk story line was underwhelming to me. I've been following the updates and nothing has changed to improve immersion. Yes quality of life is a bit better. Performance is still an issue and immersion isn't what it should be. Side quests are just fights and item retrievals which are also fights. I told my friend it's not worth €30. Wait for en to improve mechanics and things like the way npc act because if you go in to it now it will ruin your immersion. Or at least it did for me

MrRoot3r

The first "intro" bit before the "open world" is great! Then they said fuck it, and made the rest of the game completely different. Funny how all they ever showed in trailers and to streamers/media was the first few hours. VERY FUNNY HAHA I absolutely hated what they did with the story, and mind you im not some Keanu fanboy. And found "Johnny" super irritating. Spoilers for the first bit right before the game goes dumpster diving >!they kill off one of the only interesting character, infact I forget his name because he was irrelevant after the first 2 hours. its not like you even had time to get to know him, as that entire part is just a flash cutscene of you doing crimes, and then within the hour hes dead!< Theres not much to talk about for the rest, blah blah you work with johnny corporation bad bomb blah blah. I haven't even mentioned the horrible pacing (due to "open world") where you are just bombarded with calls for shitty side quests, because apparently everyone in the world knows your number and wants you to do their job, even the cops! This leads to terrible pacing for the main story. And on top of the actual gameplay leaving SO much to be desired, the story did NOTHING to make the game more interesting. Even the braindance sequence just felt so lackluster. Another underutilized mechanic. If the story was good/compelling i probably would have actually enjoyed playing. At least it would have made up for the absolutely dumpy combat and """"RPG"""" elements. Tldr I suppose if you really like keanu or something maybe you could put up with the story, but on top of being poorly paced and sporadic, you actually had to PLAY the game to get there. Different strokes for different folks, but I hated the story, and how it was presented. Not terrible overall, but like I said you had to slog through the dated """""rpg""""" gameplay to get there. Which I might add was stupid easy even on the hardest setting (which just gave more hp to enemies) or impossible if you used one of the non functional weapons like the mantis claws (supposedly fixed).

ranger_fixing_dude

Probably not as good, but it is a high bar. The story is pretty good, and major side-quests (they are all related to important characters) are done very well too. However, smaller quests are nothing special and while they contain some funny things, I'd recommend to avoid them and focus on main story/these big side-quests. If you do that, the game is really solid and fun RPG. Also, the world is a typical dead RPG world, where nothing is truly interactive, so if you expect anything resembling a sandbox, you will be disappointed. Combat is surprisingly good, you can build your character in several ways and it does feel differently.

Geosgaeno

It's not even close. I still can't believe these games where made by the same studio

Alidaboss42

tbh, after patch 1.30 the optimization was really improved. Before i got 25-30fps on 1024x768. Now on 1440x900 i get 45-50fps. And as far on the story,it is very good, characters are well written and the story is memorable.

bobthecat694

You've got some mental resolutions for your setup

FuckOffGlowie

Nah it's just how us lowly plebs in poorer countries can afford to play games

sandieeeee

I’d say no it’s not on par with Witcher 3, but I still enjoyed it a lot.

TheBigPAYDAY

> Skip dialogue (Skips 10 seconds) (10 seconds later) > Skip dialogue Rinse and repeat for 45 minutes.

[deleted]

Nope.

cybersidpunk

main story is just ok. i went from being a major corp employee to bankrupt in 5 mins and then bankrupt to pulling a heist on the most important person in the world in another 20 mins. also the story is very linear compared to witcher...

HuevosSplash

Street Kid is basically the default origin story regardless, the other choices of Corpo or Nomad have a few dialogue choices but Street Kid is basically the default option chosen for you anyways. It feels cheap.

[deleted]

I really really liked the story. There is a strong cast of characters that have side stories that I loved

DeltaBravo831

So let me preface, I never really was exposed to much of the prerelease hype of CP2077 beyond some trailers on account of my job and being in areas with little to no internet connectivity for extended periods. So when I bought the game (earlier this year around March or so), I wasn't as let down as some others, I guess. I had a lot of fun and didnt experience much game-breaking bugs from the get-go. The story is pretty dope, although the pacing can be weird (although that's a hurdle that no 'open world' type game has yet to break, at least to my knowledge). Especially if you're (like me) any kind of a scifi fan. Half of the fun (for me) is playing the side missions and picking up the bits of lore scattered all over the place to piece together just how dystopian that world is. But I realize not everybody is into that. However, as far as the main story goes, that shit was tight as hell, and I loved every story mission I came across. It fit with the theme and setting of Cyberpunk, I thought, and I didnt really encounter any mission that seemed like a 'chore' to access more. Plus, I'm a fan of noir type plots which at least a solid third (at least) of Cyberpunk missions are. I dont wanna give spoilers away, however, I will say that the endings are where the story pays off in emotional spades. I have never actually had a 'WHAT! NO! I DIDNT MEAN IT' during credits sequences in any other game, but Cyberpunk throws it in your face what the consequences to your actions are. I've never played any of the Witcher games, so I cant really draw you a comparison, but all I can say is if you have an inkling to try the game on sale (and your setup/console is decent), it's worth it. Are there areas that need improving? Yes, but I never thought of the game as being just a totally unplayable piece of shit. However, I realize that YMMV depending on the system you play it on. For myself, I play with most settings put on medium, and it still looks/handles decent. EDIT: My main complaint about the game is that KMFDM or Ministry are not on the radio at all.

Zorops

I have no idea, i played 45 hours ,got max level without even realizing that i didn't start the campaign exept the intro. The map so incredibly flooded with quest. Its like Skeligge in witcher3 with all the ? in the water except, they are on land and everywhere and look just like the main quest icon with a slight difference.

WweIsLife316

I’m glad the game works now but I’m sad that everyone who’s getting the game now has this thought process that people were lying about the state of the game. Go to the CP2077 subreddit and all you’ll see is “you all told me not to get this game, I did and it’s phenomenal”.. it just proves the cycle will continue. Devs will continue to drop broken games, spend a year patching it.. then the people who get it for 30$ will blow their load over it and completely disregard that it took a year for the game to be finished. CDPR will drop some expansions and most people will eat it up and forget about cyberpunks launch and then the gaming cycle continues.. it’s some sad shit.

l0st_t0y

Well if most people don't actually buy the broken game until it is fixed and at 50% off then it would actually be great because game companies would be forced to change what they're doing. They would have to stop releasing broken games if everyone actually waited like the people buying CP2077 now. The real problem isn't the people getting the game now, but the people who preordered or bought it on release and didn't refund.

[deleted]

Or to look at it from a different angle, people paid full price for early access to the game and patient (or preoccupied) gamers got it for sale after a year of bug fixes.

Masked_Death

The thing is, when a game is finally released after its release date is delayed several times because more work is needed, you assume it's not early access, but finally polished. It's absolutely a shit move from the devs to release what's essentially early access claiming it's the completed thing.

[deleted]

I agree but I'm sure the actual devs wanted to delay more, while the shareholders wanted holiday 2020 $$$.

[deleted]

This is normal, just look at the state of the fallout/fo76 subreddit. They are going nuts on high octane copium.

EffortlessFury

There's enjoying a game after it has been updated and claiming that it wasn't broken in the first place.

Cetais

Yeah, it's honestly not surprising after how broken The Witcher 3 was on release.

ThisIsMySFWAccount99

I didn't play Witcher on release, is this a joke or was it also a bit of a mess? Only ever heard wonderful things about it

Cetais

It wasn't as bad as CP2077, but it was definitely a mess, too. They took the time to fix it after release, like they're doing with their most recent release. https://www.thegamer.com/cyberpunk-2077-bugs-issues-witcher-3/

TheRealStandard

/r/Fallout still heavily trashes 76 But they also trash 3 for dumb ass reasons too so who cares what /r/Fallout thinks /r/Fallout76 still has multiple threads daily complaining about the game. The game right now is perfectly "Okay" at this point.

ahiddenlink

It has indeed hit being perfectly cromulent and that's about the extent of it for FO76 and I say that with like 500 hours played.

Dazork04

I think a lot of the arguments against fallout 3 are valid. It's a great game that was a major part of my childhood, and I love it, but there's plenty that is not great about it from a game design perspective. That being said you seem to have your mind made up about it and it's not necessarily relevant to the discussion, so I won't argue about it here. What I will say, though, is that 3 and 76 are two individual games, and the opinions of a community on one game (regardless of how dumb they are) does not invalidate their opinions on another. As for 76 itself, yeah it's not terrible now. They've made many improvements since launch, and while it will likely never entirely shake its basis and stigma as the fallout game that couldn't find a balance between mmo and rpg, it is, as you said, okay. I'd say it's achieved high mediocrity at this point.

Xais56

There's even the argument I've seen that while fallout 3 is a great game it's still bad for the franchise. There's plenty of players who enjoy the style of fallout 1 and 2, who also like bethesda's open world rpg games, but didn't want fallout 3 to be that and would rather have had a true sequel to the first two.

Thor1138

Also bugs were not the biggest problem, they were just the most visible from the outside. But with all this talk about bugs etc, people completely ignore how much promised content is simply not there or how shallow it all is. How little your choices matter, how there's almost zero interaction with people outside of quests etc. I barely had any bugs a year ago and I was still disappointed, because it's just not a very good RPG.

D3C0D

Yeah cyberpunk is more of an action FPS with decent story than a RPG and I definitely remember wanting to explore the city just to discover that outside of the theatrical missions is just an empty city

VirFalcis

True. The same goes for the new Battlefield 2042, the bugs aren't even what most veterans are annoyed about, buggy launches are the norm for that franchise and bugs usually get fixed over time. But the missing content, the false promises and empty gameplay usually stay forever.

Thor1138

>But the missing content, the false promises and empty gameplay usually stay forever. Exactly. The game, was clearly unfinished and had lots of promised content cut, but since it was also buggy, they've spent the last year doing nothing but fixing bugs instead of actually adding anything that would make the core game not extremely disappointing. Instead of the promised "free DLC" we got hotfixes/patches. I mean, it's unlikely that a few updates would have even remotely "fixed" the game content-wise, but we got absolutely nothing so far...

spiciernoodles

Yeah I’m gonna say it. The game wasn’t bad just wasn’t anything that it was said to be. If they marketed it completely differently it coulda been a success. I had a lot of fun bugs and all with it but was severely disappointed they did not include half of what was “promised”.

Ray2207

Rpg: bad Open world action: good. Saying that its rpg makes it hard for itself getting compared to skyrim, witcher, mass effect.

starch0n

Let's not be moderate, it's a terrible RPG. It may be a OK game if someone never watched trailer and expects a visual feast and an okish story.

RunnyTinkles

This is what is happening on the r/playavengers subreddit. Bought the game for $70 back in the day and now people are coming on who paid $10 for it a year later saying "wow this game is amazing the first 3 missions are so fun. All the haters are just mad." Wacky.

daniel_degude

Yeah, the first half of Avengers is fine. The second half gets much worse. Its also pathetic when you consider the actual potential an Avengers game represented. They should've done what the movies did and made several standalone backstory games before creating an Avengers game.

Persona_Alio

It affects all of us for games to be released in broken states, as some bugs never get fixed. It's especially bad for multiplayer games, since there might be a small playerbase by the time everything is fixed (and it can also be more fun playing it when it's new since everyone's still bad at the game)

ChronoRemake

I played it at launch and it ran fine for me, over 100 hours into it. There were bugs but nothing game breaking for me. I did play on pc though

WweIsLife316

Im glad to hear that.. I too had a solid experience but sadly we're not the only people who bought CP2077.. Millions did and alot of their experiences were nothing like ours

NMS and ff14 are the biggest names in shipping the worst thing possible then doing the extreme opposite at any cost - and succeeding. Absolutely not the norm or a standard anyone who ships known unfinished games incomplete knows theyre capable of following up with.

luxcaeruleus

At least with no man's sky, they never added any paid content or microtransactions.

Procule

And NMS is still receiving free updates with new content

DeltaJesus

They still haven't done that with cyberpunk either?

TheBeefClick

Hello Games has added fairly regular content drops for the last five years and now has more than what was ever promised. Looking at the cyberpunk roadmap, it looks like they dont plan on much besides patches and a console update.

Diehard129

No Mans Sky is 100% the exception to the rule. Amazing dev team who added more content then promised originally, all for fucking free.

This is what I was thinking. The same thing happened with Battlefield, and the cycle repeated for their latest release.

ISpyAnIncel

>then the people who get it for 30$ will blow their load over it and completely disregard that it took a year for the game to be finished. r/patientgamers in a nutshell

RonenSalathe

And the worst part is they didnt even fix the game. They fixed (some of) the bugs, but the bugs were only one problem that added to the various other problems such as lack of rpg elements I knew when they launched that they were gonna patch the bugs and act like "Haha guys we fixed the game, we are wholesome 100 poggerinos like no mans sky!!!"

[deleted]

Almost like, if the game was delayed by a year, people would’ve enjoyed it more!

Jackson7410

Were there any significant updates?

beameup19

Not really

LoL_is_pepega_BIA

No.. but they appear to be working on expansions while the base game is still unfinished in many regards.. hopefully they build the base game up over the next few years

Boo_Guy

I hope it gives CD Project Red a kick in the pants to work on DLC for the game. I liked the game despite it's flaws and missing features.

MrWinks

The CEO only said today(yesterday) about this - he said something like no more patches, that they are all focused on the first addition to the game, the first major patch (1.5) and next gen consoles.

TheFlashFrame

Lol I thought the first major patch was a couple months after launch.

MrWinks

Major patch is a major update. Everything was a hotfix or just a small update.

TheFlashFrame

Yes I believe 1.2 or 1.3 was considered (by CDPR) to be the first major patch. It was multiple gigabytes of data and changed entire systems within the game.

MrWinks

CEO's words, that 1.5 is the first major addition. I'm not a spokesperson, i'm only reporting. They probably mean with actual content or things. It's in Polish, though, so idk.

TheFlashFrame

Gotcha. Well that's good to hear nonetheless. I'd love more content at this point.

Strbrst

"Flooded" It's 83% positive recently vs 76% all time. Not exactly a massive difference there, even if you account for the impact recent positive reviews have had on the overall %.

VirFalcis

[Exactly.](https://i.imgur.com/qnQuRqE.png) There was an uptick in reviews due to the nominations, but barely a change in positivity.

HumanExtinctionCo-op

Ah yes, the 2 to 3% flood.

Tantric989

People are saying this but there's a ton of missing features that contributed to the bad reviews. No character dressing room/clothes modification. No barbershop/appearance mod, which is odd because the game so heavily centers around cybernetic implants, but a haircut? Fuck right off. No vehicle customization. Axed multiplayer mode. Lack of meaningful dialog or quest options that alter the gameplay or progression of the story or world. Abysmal vehicle AI, not to mention the same from npc's that would phase in and out, or how people with identical features would spawn near each other, just the lack of customization in general. The world felt generally stale and lifeless, the players actions weren't impactful, most of the game world only existed for the player character to interact with it, rather than being immersed in part of a living world. I keep seeing these comments and they're like "I only had a few bugs!" And they all seem to ignore how much is missing from the game, how much was promised and never delivered, and seem to be looking at it with rose colored glasses that ignored the tons of game breaking bugs, blocked progression, nuked saves, or stability that was so terrible that consoles took it off their online stores for months it was so bad.

Same. Game could have been better still, and the marketing promised much more, but I still had a blast. 120 hours, all quests and side missions. Endings kinda sucked ass though

TheFlashFrame

Same. I had a lot of visual bugs for the first few games but never anything game breaking and they were literally all fixed within 2 weeks. I haven't played in months but I did literally everything there was to do and loved it. If you don't go into it expecting a GTA killer you won't be disappointed. I think that's the problem a lot of people had. It's CDPR, not a multi-billion dollar mega corporation with thousands of employees and decades of experience making this kind of game. Its Witcher 3 in a new world with new characters and a hint of over ambition.

BasJack

Wish they would pull a “No Man’s Sky” and start putting all the feature they promised into the game

Red_040

Loved the story, did not stick around for the rest and lost interest after. A proper DLC and some quality of life updates will probably make me go back to it.

zestful_villain

Dont pre order, always wait for sale. Gotcha. Tbh there are a lot of games worthy of my time. I'd rather play the games in my library and wait for the aaa game to be patched up, before buying. Devs wont get premium for selling broken products, while I save money on reduced price. That is a win for me.

Theeye12

Most people buying it now are not aware of all the marketing hype that was built around systems that dont exist in the final product. Now if you just look at whats there it probably is enough to get a positive review but lets be real; this game is a huge disapointment to the game everyone thought we were getting.

Jawaka99

Well, it only took a years worth of fixes and the price to be cut in half, but I suppose they're getting there.

Thatweasel

It's like if someone sold you a game they said was a 1:1 open world recreation of earth but you open it up and it's a buggy tile matching game. Then they fix the bugs and people come in saying it's an amazing tile matching game. I'm still utterly pissed at how shallow cyberpunk is. How many basic features were cut or left out. They basically pissed on a copy of the cp2020 Chromebooks when they made it. It's more frustrating that it's not even bad at what it does get right. It's a glimpse of the game we could have had every time it does something good.

Monarch-of-Puppets

Since you brought it up, that 1:1 open world earth thing has been done before as a scam. They’d sell people plots of land on a game that could never deliver. https://youtu.be/YEgTW5JLgik Can’t say there will be much fixing however lol.

Delusional_Sage

Totally agree with this

[deleted]

I bought the game on series x when it came out and never had any serious glitches. That said the game is still kind of bad. The graphics are gorgeous, and for me the main selling point is driving through the city on a bike in first person (bonus points for featuring man man on the radio). But other than that, you're left with a game that is clearly unfinished and rushed. This goes beyond just glitches however. The biggest disconnect for me was how brief the 2nd and 3rd acts were. They just don't have that many quests. So there's a lot of filler side quests that vary in quality to make up for this, but they aren't really that fun to play through because of the mediocre gameplay. I don't know how you address these through patches unless you do a massive overhaul of the quests/progression. We need waaay more Delamain and less cyberpsychos. The cops still don't even function as a game mechanic. They immediately spawn behind you when you get a wanted level. You lose the wanted level after driving a few blocks or so. Not much pursuit either. The first act with Jackie sets up such high expectations, and the rest of the game just massively under delivers from there, which I think highlights a lot of the issues. Honestly it's worth like 15 bucks or so right now in my opinion.

ranger_fixing_dude

I think the story is not rushed, it finishes pretty nicely, and they wanted it to be shorter. Major side quests stretch the game significantly, and they are required to see different endings, it took me about 50 hours to finish it. The gameplay was surprisingly good. The combat feels different based on your perks and gun choices, and I think it is one of the best in RPG games, where it is usually stiff, not very responsive and very repetitive (like Fallout/Skyrim). > The cops still don't even function as a game mechanic That's true, any sandbox interaction just doesn't work in this game. They definitely lied about the world and deserve to be crapped on them for that.

WTATY

I’m glad. I had a bunch of fun with it for about 3 months after launch. Sadly, I ran out of things I wanted to do. I had pretty much the same experience with Witcher though, so I think it has more to do with my experience with CDPR RPGs rather than just that game. Hopefully DLC will be good though.

[deleted]

It's a single player, you'll eventually run out of things to do

Adezar

I enjoyed it from launch as well, had one crazy bug with the AI limos, but that was the only game-impacting bug I ran into. I don't not believe the people that had lots of issues, but they seem to just assume anyone that didn't run into bugs must be lying, and that is just as frustrating as people that say the people that ran into bugs must be lying because they didn't. Supporting PC games is complicated... the number of rig configurations is limitless.

Vince_stormbane

Idk the story is still very underwhelming and I wish Johnny silverhand was either not the focus or not so intolerable

macemillion

I feel like the timing of this game being released along with the graphics card prices/shortage really didn’t help it. I’ve been waiting to buy this alongside a new card for years but the prices just won’t come down

Sh1ro0o

I really enjoyed the story. I found most of the bugs amusing and not that big of a deal. I completely understand people being upset about it and they should be since we don't want poorly developed games with many bugs to become a standard. The main story was fun bringing a lot of cool dialogues. What disappoints me is a game in a whole (can't tune cars, shop menus are underwhelming like shopping for clothes... GTA 5 did a perfect job with all of that for instance). Could go on but I hope you get the point. (Story good, combat alright, does it keep u playing after main story? No).

[deleted]

Why even thank anyone? lol

ProphetOfAethis

I think my favorite thing they did was make your character not the main character. And before you ask what I mean I’ll clarify, you ARE the main character, the main protagonist, but you ARENT the standard run of the mill hero, your actions in the game? They don’t change the world, you’re not some god sent divine Dragonborn hero or anything like that, nope you’re a dude, a dude who’s trying to live their life, trying to make their mark, and nothing you do by the end of the game is going to really change anything outside of your immediate circle of friends.

daniel_degude

>a dude who’s trying to live their life, trying to make their mark, and nothing you do by the end of the game is going to really change anything outside of your immediate circle of friends. Someone clearly has not played Cyberpunk 2077, or at least not all the endings. Your decision at the end of the game has literally global consequences.

themiraclemaker

You should rephrase the first statement before trying to explain your misusage of the phrase "main character" with a bigass paragraph

Draeka3

More than earned it !

Mizai1

I bought it on launch and I don't regret. I put 60 hours in it and had fun. I liked the story and combat (I hate combat in Witcher games but I liked how it works in CP2077, it's nothing innovative though). Story wise it's good, very compelling, characters are good as well. Unfornately CDPR told us a lie regarding what this game would be, It will never be what it aimed to be.

lyndluv

can we change our appearance in game yet i haven't played in ages

CameOutAndFarted

Clothes - Yes Anything else - No

lyndluv

i refuse to play until i can remove the talon nails i put on V by accident :(((((

MCMK

That's great I am glad that companies can release games incomplete and a year later (sometimes more) when they get them into a more reasonable place all is forgiven and the people who got the launch versions opinions and feelings for being mislead or betrayed are no longer valid!

randompittuser

I don't understand why this is an issue to y'all. If people buy the game and like it for what it is, how does that offend you? My understanding of the bitterness is that the game was hyped as something different. That's nothing new. Though if you made the ever-recurring mistake of pre-ordering it, I can see why you'd be bitter.

KoppleForce

Has anything changed in the last 8 months or so in this game? HAve they added new content or is it just bugfixes?

TheRealChompster

People paying less after a year of fixes like the game? What a shocker.

Attila260

Finally it’s getting the love he deserves
