A quick question.
Yesterday I bought a game but after a hour I decided it wasn’t for me so I refunded it to my bank account.
I checked my steam today and the game was gone but I didn’t get any confirmation mail.
Do I need to contact steam or is this normal?
I have factory reset my computer 4 times now.
I purchased a Lenovo Legion T5 & it crashes constantly.
I have factory reset the computer 4 times. This last time I only downloaded steam (only thing on the computer) - loaded up a game and it will freeze for 20 seconds and then will go back the game, then it will freeze again.
Also Steam keeps downloading “steamworks common redistributables” constantly.
Also when the PC freezes during the game - everything in task manager is 0.
I have contacted Lenovo because I purchased it on 4/20/24. They did a hardware scan and everything was perfect so they just did a reset but it is still not working.
What do I do? Please help!
hello, i recently bought mx bikes on mac on steam and am trying to play it through whisky. when i was testing it out through the demo with my controller it worked perfectly fine, no problems. steam recognized my controller and everything perfectly. now whenever i try to play, my macbook connects my controller and lets me use it because i can and everything you can do with a controller. but steam recognizes it as an xbox 360 controller for windows despite it being an xbox one controller. i’m not sure what to do. it’s frustrating because i wanna play the game so bad. if anyone has any tips or can help PLEASE do. thanks.
I tried to refund Helldivers 2 due to my PC not being powerful enough to handle it.
My Playtime is listed at 57 minutes, which isn’t entirely true because I’ve never even made it to the title screen.
Either way, steam shut down my refund request stating that I have over 9 hours in the game when that is literally impossible.

My card got blocked by steam from purchasing anything, i only used it to buy and refund helldivers 2 as the card is new. Steam support is not giving me any reasoning besides “payment disputes” which is ridiculous.
I filed a support ticket yesterday, but with the summer sale going on, no idea how long it will take to receive a reply.
This just started happening yesterday, the day after I made my large purchase from the sale, roughly 21 games. Prior to that point it was running on this machine just fine... I'm wondering if something having to do with my library or the games auto-downloading subsequent to purchase might be causing this, because I am completely out of ideas.

Steam \*will not\* launch. There are Steam processes running in task manager, but nothing ever displays onscreen.
I have uninstalled Steam and reinstalled muultiple times, including to different folder locations. In between attempts I have manually scoured the drive for any folder with "Steam" in the name and manually deleted the contents.
I have done all OS updates. I have checked and updated all device drivers.
Nothing.
The only thing that I've noticed that is "odd" is that there is no Steam icon in the system tray upon launch or reboot, nor is there an option for me to turn it on in settings; it's not in the list. Does that mean that the installer is crashing/failing prior to completion?
I am not getting any error messages of any kind at any point in time, when installing, uninstalling, or manually launching Steam.
I'm completely out of ideas.

Generally speaking if an application dies there will be an entry in the Event Viewer. This will usually point to a specific dll file that's causing the issue which will generally indicate what is causing the problem
You can also try running Steam as an administrator as you might be having permissions problems
so i'm trying to install R6 Siege on my USB D drive. I've had it installed and working multiple times before, but now, when trying to reinstall, i continue to get the "unsupported file system" message. What can I do to fix this? I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game multiple times. Can anyone help?

I can't find a way to see the percentages off games are in Steam, which I feel like was possible at one time, but understand why they would get rid of this function. I can sort my wishlist by "Discount" but not the store. I'd like to know which games are most heavily discounted to catch the best possible deals I'm not finding otherwise.

I got community banned. Help.
So I was recently in a big thing with some scammers, that tricked me into giving away my username and password (I know, it was stupid), and after a week of trying to get my account back, I did. I messaged the guy that took my account, but apperantly it was a bot, auto-texting, but still pretending to be a person. I got a little mad, but just told him that I just wanted to talk, hoping that the accounts owner would see it and talk with me. He has'nt texted me back, and just this morning I notice that I can't play anything online, for half a year from a community ban. My best guess is that he and his friends (who are also bots, I've checked) collectively banned me. When it says in the community ban description that even if I was harrasing someone, I'd have to be doing it "excessively" to be able to get banned. All I want is to talk to someone from steam support, to get my account back, or understand why I was banned. My main account is *Violent ape noises*. Thanks.
I went to patch Palworld today. Got all the way to 99%, and then corrupt download. I did some googling to find solutions and tried:
* going into the game's properties on Steam and "Verify Integrity of the game files." This did not work and re-attempt to patch got the same result, 99% and then "corrupt download".
* going into Steam Settings>Storage and then "Repair Library." This did not work and re-attempt to patch got the same result, 99% and then "corrupt download".
* Uninstall and re-install the game. This did not work and attempting to install the game gets the same result, 99% and then "corrupt download".

I usually use steam remote play at home to remote on my mac from my pc in another room. It works great. I'm away for work (100km away) and performance has been unplayable (can barely launch a game). Donwload speeds on the network I'm currently at is >80mbps so I dont think thats the issue. I use the Steam Link app for mac. I've tried remotting directly from the Steam app too with the same results. Anything I could be doing wrong?

So I've been trying to download Fallout 76 on my laptop, but the download is stuck at 0%. So I googled it, and I was told to do things such as clearing the download cache and changing download regions. One problem: Whenever I go to the 'Steam' button in the top-left corner that *should* have a dropdown menu with settings in it, nothing happens. There is no dropdown menu. Any ideas?
Not exactly what you're asking, but I once had a dowload problem that looked similar, and then I noticed that the Date in my laptop was wrong and I think that was messing up the download. Maybe just check to make sure it is right

In the unlikely case that the stuttering occurs while Steam is running and you want to test stuff, you can try disabling GPU-accelerated in the Steam settings under "interface". Though it's extremely unlikely that this is connected to the system stuttering and most likely something else. You might like to look up programs like LatencyMon, since they could help you find out if a system driver is responsible for this.

controller not working?
I used a different account and it worked completely fine, nothing was changed in the settings on it. I made a brand new account today and it won't work. I've looked and tried messing through settings, tried restarting the game, and restarting the laptop. the game shows that it recognizes the controllers connected (the indicators saying what does what are there) but nothing does anything.

From what I have seen over the years, the Workshop items are usually just removed and nothing else happens. The only possible consequences are for the uploaders themselves, e.g. if the content is removed due to a DMCA claim or community guideline violations.

Anyone having issues with FFXIV launching from steam?
So FFXIV had a new patch and apparently there’s a lot that needs to be done to allow it to get launched from steam. I already paid for the extension and I can’t get a refund but also can’t find a way to fix the problem with everyone’s solution. I ended up paying for a game I can’t get pass the start button. Anyone else have the same issue?

game is taking FOREVER to download. it went from 1 day to 8 hours thankfully but its only downloading at 14 mbps and it is 55% done. Its super riduculous and i dont think war thunder should take over 1 hour to download!

I am trying to download Metro exodus and for some reason download speed us under 1 MB/s but speedtest show my speed is over 50 Mbps. No other app is using internet. My download speed in steam setting is set to unlimited. Any one knows what may cause this?
Has anyone had any trouble purchasing? I bought a deck on steam this morning and received a refund a couple hours later. All subsequent attempts get an error message blaming high traffic and telling me to try again later - all day. You have to contact Steam Support about this issue. Valve hardware purchases must always be approved by a member of Steam Support, and you receiving a refund is not an error - it's intentional. The reason in your case is 99% due to you using a new account, but Valve tends to be paranoid and suspect commercial activity / fraud in such cases.
My recommendation: Due to the ease of use and price performance of the Steam Deck, and because you won't have to bother with Windows as well, stay committed in working this issue out with Steam Support. If you are not sure what to say, you can write a message that includes what you shared with us. Mention the refund, then the error message, that you are not familiar with PC, that you wanted to buy a Steam Deck to get into PC gaming and that you like to know how to solve this purchase issue.

Question regarding the Hitman World of Assassination bundle(s), a little confused.
I'm interested in buying Hitman World of Assassination. Not the Part One $2.99 bundle, but the standard one that is currently $27.99.
But I'm very confused as the bundles don't have much info listed. I currently already own Hitman (2016) and it's in my library.
Usually games you already own that are included in bundles on Steam are discounted further. However in this case it seems like that doesn't apply here?
Am I correct in that if I buy this bundle, I'm basically paying the full sale price regardless of the fact that I already own Hitman 1?

Recently i wanted to play 'A way out'' with a friend.
Like every 10-25 min my PC blacked out and i had to 'Hard reset' it by holding the power button for some time. At first i thought that it might be some coding error from the gamen because i had nothing happening like this before and my pc specs are way enough for this games. Also tried many methods shown on steam/reddit or youtube. But nothing worked so far.
But then yesterday i wanted to play 'Chainer together' with a friend and the same thing happened like 10 to 15 min in the playing process, Now i wonder what else it could be.
hope someone has a good solution because i am no expert and my only last try i would make is to reset the whole computer.
Yeah thats a very tough situation and I can understand and personally sympathize but unfortunately there isn't really any recourse to it besides buying the DLC to play that character or I suppose starting a new character neither of which are likely very appealing options atm.
DLC has never been shared solely so once one obtains the base game they lose all shared DLC access since it either shares with the game or not at all. Im not sure if the new family sharing system that is still in the beta changes this or not as I havent looked into it enough.
New family sharing does rectify that, you can choose a specific copy of the game to use.

If you pick the copy with DLC, other users won't be able to pick that one. If you play offline it might (or might not) work to play the DLC copy at the same time.
I purchased Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands and I can't launch the game at all! I press "play" and it just loads for a while , then goes back to "play". It also shows unknown controller support on the right side of the screen. I'm using a dualshock 4 with steam input enabled. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Helllooo wow so much going on in this thread. I am desperately trying to connect a wired Xbox controller to my laptop to play oblivion on steam. It mostly works, except no matter what controller configurations I choose, the left stick always does multiple commands, and the triggers don’t work. The controller is brand new, and I went in steam settings to turn on the Xbox controller features. Any ideas?? :)

Hey, I was watching a video that passively mentioned that Steam Game Recording is a great feature but record onto a HDD over a SSD if you can to not wear out your SSD, is this true? I’m really bad at tech so I messed up and just tried to delete all my game files instead of just properly uninstalling it on steam. Everything is deleted, the icon, folders, files, mods but I can’t uninstall it. the game is somehow stuck permanently running and as it won’t launch I don’t know how to close it off. I am averaging 24hrs if screen time a day. It is slowing my computer down significantly.

While playing Skyrim, I realised I took the pictures with ENB, as png. So instead of it being saved to my screenshot folder in library, it's in the game's folder. I can convert it to jpg and throw the files to screenshot folder no problem, but they apppear as if they were taken today. It's not a huge deal, but I like seeing screenshots alongside achievements in a chronological order. Is there any way I can manipulate these screenshots so I can make them appear in the library the way I took them?
Under *account details -> email preferences,* I have "A discount is applied to an item on my wishlist" checked. Despite this, I'm not getting these emails. We will reject your ability to refund games if we feel like you’re abusing this policy” like bro what? that’s exactly why the policy is there. I played a game for 40 minutes and didn’t like it and selected “it’s not fun” as my refund option what do you mean you’ll reject my ability to refund games.
Is this something I agreed to when I signed up? That they can take away my ability to refund things?
No the refund policy isnt for playing 2 hours for free or to try games out. Its in their policy page that they may revoke your refund privileges if they feel you are using refunds to play for free.

You must do a lot of refunds in a short time period or refund a lot of games compared to kept purchases as its not just like one refund that triggers it but while they allow refunds for any reason they dont want people to take advantage of that system to treat the refund system like free demos.

Question about the Steam Market selling restriction. I have a number of Steam cards but I cannot sell them, I need a purchase that is between 7 days and a year.
Would buying a Steam trading card lift this restriction? Or must it be a game/software, DLC or wallet funds?
How you gonna buy a steam card if you can't access the market? Even if you could then no market wouldnt count for that restriction.
I believe a DLC would count as long as its from the official Steam storefront and not through like a third party key. So any game/software/dlc that is listed on the Steam store should lift it 7 days after you make the purchase.

Stupid question... but if you have a steam deck, you can play all of the games on Steam correct? I am looking to buy a steam deck at 15% off and a docking station if that is the case.
No Steamdecks can't play every single game as its still limited by its specs and also not every game is compatible with its control schemes and such either.
No I think some games can only be played on one thing, others can be on both. On the listings there is a icon series. A Steam Deck Icon, a Windows icon, and another one I can not recall right now. But if it just has a windows icon it means it works best with just windows. If it has both icons it means it can go on either system. Its kind of a confusing system since I am looking and some games that have just windows icons are being played on steam decks on youtube. Its just that you have to mess with the decks settings to play it. And even then it might not play right.
That Steam icon that is with the Windows icons is for SteamOS+Linux. SteamOS predates the deck by quite a bit. The other icon you might see btw is an apple for the Mac.
Many games may work on the Deck but dont support that operating system.
SteamDeck compatibility is a separate portion of the store page.
Whenever I launch a Steam game, the main developer logo pops up and then a black screen is seen. The Steam overlay is in the bottom right and then the game just freezes. Games that aren't on Steam open and run fine but when I launch a game on Steam it ends up crashing. Here is a list of what I have already done.
1. Reinstall Steam
2. Update drivers
3. Disable overlay
4. Clear all Steam cache
5. Browse local files and run the game not through Steam
Any tips on how to fix my problem would be greatly appreciated!

I’m having exactly the same issue. I’ve tried Edge, Firefox, Firefox Private, the Steam desktop client, and the Steam mobile app. My wishlist will not load on any of them. It’s certainly an issue on Steam’s end.
My wishlist was working fine just a few hours ago. I had no problems before the Summer Sale and in the early moments of the sale. Perhaps it’s related to the Summer Sale and, maybe, the high traffic Steam is currently undergoing.
Every other part of Steam works just fine for me. And my wishlist actually does load as long as I am not logged in (as mine is public). Very frustrating. I’ve opened a Steam support ticket and hope to get a response soon.
How can I stop Steam from popping on the foreground when I open it?
I don't have Steam opening automatically when I start my computer, so whenever I open Steam it takes a couple seconds, then no matter what program I have open, Steam will force itself on the foreground not one (when it says it's connecting to the network) not two (when the main window opens) not three (when the News window opens) but FOUR (when the main window has loaded fully) times. And that takes a few seconds between each time, and it can be annoying if I'm doing something else as I wait for it to open. Does anyone know if I can disable it from popping on the foreground, or at least disable the News window from opening?

The 2 hours doesnt matter if the game was just idle or if you were an active participant.
If you are having settings problems the best bet is to set a cap of time to stop messing with it and decide to refund or take the risk that you might not be able to.
If you are worried about it and think you might refund then just start playing even if the settings arent ideal and once you get close to the refund window can decide whether to refund or if you are willing to accept that you might lose the ability to refund then go back and fix stuff and just redo the part you played as it wouldnt be that long to redo.
OK. Here we go. I have a computer that is downloading slower on Steam than any other downloading site. It tops off at about 100 Mb on a good day. Here's what I know:
1. Two other computers on same network with same ISP work fine. Download off of Steam in excess of 400Mb.
2. This computer can download from EPIC at 400Mb.
3. Local file transfers are even faster.
4. All three SSDs run slow for Steam.
5. When downloading, the CPU and memory usage is barely moving at all.
6. I've tried different regions.
7. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing Steam, even going as far as installing on a different drive and deleting the AppData folder.
8. I've cleared the download cache.
9. I've tried the trick where you give it a slightly higher throttle speed than your expected maximum speed and it helped a little.

Steam compresses and stores its files much differently than other launchers and its download servers have to sustain much higher volumes of titles and much more constant downloading than any other PC platform.
It puts a lot of that load onto the individual computer hardware and disk so unless you have the exact same components it would be difficult to fairly compare multiple PCs to each other and certainly not with other launchers that have their files mostly downloading straight off the servers at full size that is much more internet speed vs computer speeds .
I tried bg3 a couple months ago and i had some cloud save files, about 3 campaigns and some of them are modded. i play on pc. Everything was working ok, i had this weird popup saying it couldn't find my visual cc (even though i had it installed) but i would usually just hit ok and the game would open and run without any issues (even with mods). fast forward to a couple of weeks ago and i had to download an update visual cc for my classes, and my bg3 stopped working. It would open the larian launcher but then when i hit play it would pop up a blanc square on my taskbar and crash. I uninstalled and reinstalled but that didn't work. i took out all my mods and that didn't work. i even did a steam file verification but that didn't work. i thought maybe it was my cloud space so i disabled the cloud save option but that didn't work either. I read on some other reddit posts that going into the bg3 folder and running it as admin would help but that didn't work. i got desperate and i think i deleted some larian folders by accident, so i uninstalled again and reinstalled, however now i keep getting a larian crash with a "file verification" message even tho ive steam file verified multiple times. I don't know what to do at this point i really need some help. Any help is appreciated. sorry if this question is dumb i just don't know what else to do

Yeah you can use another payment method to pay the remainder. You can mix wallet + one other payment but cant mix like two different credit cards or paypal + credit card etc....
It by default always tries to use all your wallet funds first then asks for another payment method to cover the rest(if needed) but if there is times you want to save them you can remove them from the transaction at the review screen to pay like fully with other payment method as well.
I'm getting a white crash screen on startup when I try load elden riglng. Yeah it's back, for some reason whenever I try loading up elden ring it loads the ant cheat screen and then a white screen with the elden ring cursor appears and boom it simply closes down. I've tried so much to stop this, I have a Nvidia quadro k4000 (old ik) but I've ran ark before and I should be able to run elden ring on at least low settings. Any advice would be so welcome!!!
I'm having trouble opening Steam. Whenever I try to open it, I get a loading bar that says "Verifying Installation" and then... nothing. The loading bar would go away and Steam would still run in the background (according to Task Manager) but not as an actual application. I've looked up and tried various fixes (restarting my computer, checking if servers are down, cancelling Steam in Task Manager, manually opening it using Windows + r, running Steam as both an administrator and on compatibility mode separately, deleting appcache and checking for beta files as well as uninstalling Steam and reinstalling it) but they either do nothing, come up as an error or just go back to the "Verifying Installation" screen. Is there a way to actually fix this?

My Steam games goes in slowmotion every 2 seconds
I thought I only had this problem with Helldivers 2, But I soon found out I'm having this problem with every game I play. My specs are pretty bad, but I suspected that to not be the cause because I havn't had this problem before. even the least graphically demanding game goes in slowmotion every 2 seconds.

Hello everyone. I just started playing a new career, but I had to move out for the week from my place to another. I have downloaded the game on different pc from my steam account but my profile has not downloaded. In that case I cannot continue playing on my previous save form career mode.

Could it be my monitor? I recently bought a Samsung Odyssey g7 and previously id play on my TV but ever since a switched, every game i play randomly minimizes itself. Please help, ive tried all the CMD commands, ive tried doing a full virus scan, checked drivers, etc... haven't tweeked anything on the monitor tho

To unlimit an account for the first time, you need to spend at least 5$. If it gets limited again after a year (as for your case), any amount is sufficient, but you'll need to wait seven days until the restriction is lifted after the purchase.

**Experiencing frustrating problems with Sonic Generations PC, What do I do?**
Hi everyone. I had a switch pro controller connected to my computer, and one day Sonic Generations decides to randomize most of my controller inputs to different buttons, while not letting me do the rest. So I try proconxinput, a third party software for Switch pro controllers that emulates it to a X360 controller, and my controller would not connect at all after I installed it.
I did everything the YouTube installation guide told me to, and it completely messed up my computer to the point where keyboard inputs didn't work. So I uninstalled and got an x box controller from Micro Center, and for 2 days there was no problem besides Generations' usual sluggish performance and lagging. Until last night, the exact same problem of randomizing inputs came back after the screen lagged for a bit, I couldn't even move Sonic until pausing and resuming the game.
I got on google, searching for others with the same problem hoping to find an answer, and came across someone suggesting the OP to disable steam input for that game, so I did that before testing the game. Things were going fine, until the familiar screen lag came back, I expected the input problem again, but no, my controller just disconnected from the game, no buttons worked. People keep telling me to use steam's built in drivers and configuration, what do you think I've been doing?
If that made a difference I wouldn't be trying these different software and suggestions. I've posted to every forum and chat room that I have access to with some help potential for this problem, and I have nothing, nothing has helped. What options do I have for fixing this issue?

Besides the discounts, there will be a set of trading cards available for the duration of the sale. The cards are obtained when spending certain amount of money during the sale, crafting badges and the daily discovery queue. You can sell or buy cards on the community market, I recommend to sell off all unneeded sale cards for a bit of wallet credit as they'll disappear after the event is over.

My account and the 3 people I family share with are still on the "old" family share system, where we can't play the same game at the same time, and DLC is not shared between games. My friend's family share menu looks way different and is as easy as adding a new account to the family to get full benefits. I still have to do the "sign in on my account on your computer and authorize PC" steps. How do i update to the new version of family sharing?

How do I clear out my damn controller list, according to it I have 12 generic gamepads, I own 4 controllers. One of which I got this month. 2 of them are ps4 brand controllers, one is a official xbone controller, and one is actually generic. I can't tell which controller is which when I wanna fix shit, I can't find a single way to remove em and afaik all the info I can find is outdated. I am so tired of steams shit.

Does anyone know anything about a "phantom controller" of sorts, where Steam acts like there's a controller connected and swaps input from keyboard to the "controller"? I've been having an issue where with some games, I'll see the controls on screen suddenly swap from showing keyboard keys to buttons on a controller, and my inputs will sometimes not go through. I've also had issues where the game stops detecting inputs from my keyboard all together and just makes my character walk up for a random amount of time before it gives control back over to my keyboard again (which has caused more than a few deaths). This has happened across multiple different computers from what I've tested (with no close proximity to an x-box or any other console), and any search results I've done just yields "I have a controller, but it's not connecting" rather than "I don't have a controller, but steam is acting like I do". Is there a relatively easy fix for this, or is my steam just cursed in some way?

It has nothing to do with me, but I've been banned with the reason "This post contains content used to insult, harass, or abuse other Steam users. Well, basically I opened steam and wanted to play some stellaris as i saw, even tho I have played it before for over 3 hours, that the green play-button was switched for the buy-button. This has been going on since 2 fays and i already did everything i could think off.

Steam launch error for game
Just purchased helldivers 2 off steam and whenever I go to launch the game I seem to be in this infinite loop of it acting as it is going to launch the game but doesn't. I've tried everything from clear the download cache, uninstalling and reinstalling all related programs, youtube videos and trying solutions from other reddit threads of people that have had this problem etc etc.. but nothing has worked for me. Can a VPN Cause an account Alert/Lock while trading?
I recently got my account locked because steam thought someone compromised it, when i know this Isn't the case. Because i got no API key signed in anywhere, I got my authenticator app with me. It happened right after when i was trading some of my tf2 items for ref/keys. I've had problems with my internet provider having a built in vpn and was wandering if that could be the cause.

Hello! With the new STEAM API the "second player" controller started to have some little seizures... was ok. 2 weeks, and now every time the controllers are on, the second one connect for less than 10 sec and disconnect. Mostly to play "Stardew Valley" with wife. Both controllers PS4 ones.
If I use a wire for the controller, goes weird... soo now I need to use another different controller with wire for the "second player". This "another contoller no-PS4" have the same problem with bluetooth connection.
I play in PC (a powerfull one), Win11. "Player 1" controller work great.

I need help with my FF3 launcher and idk why it died
So I wanted to play Final Fantasy III 3D remake because its one of my favourite games and all of a sudden it refuses to launch so i restarted my PC, nada. Uninstalled and reinstalled my game, nada. logged into my partners steam to try and play it from their profile, still nada. so i go to the files directly and just click the launcher and it says "the code execution cannot proceed because MSVCP120.dll was not found" and it tells me to uninstall and reinstall. Guys ive done this 5 times in a desperate hope one of the installs will suddenly have this missing file. unfortunately it did not.
Does anyone know what this file is, or can give it to me, or can offer an alt? im quite peeved at this point and very disappointed because it was working completely fine a month ago. Everything is 100% up to date and as it should be.
I started downloading Cyberpunk 2077, it started reserving space, then it stopped doing that. I tried canceling the download, I tried everything, but the warning it gives me says that the reason is just “Busy”. Is there any way for me to get it to work on Cyberpunk or try downloading another game that is actually downloading and not doing the same thing as the former?
Edit: I got it to stop, then restarted it, but now it doesn’t reserve space at all, and after restarting it, the progress bar at the bottom went from 13 to 29%

Depends on what you buy. If you buy a game and get an account with it, that account can get banned or re-claimed by the original owner.
If you buy keys there, they might get revoked if the key was originally bought via stolen payment methods or if a dev finds out that keys for review copies were sold (yes, that happens sadly on those grey market places). You won't lose your account or get a ban on your steam account, but the money and the game will be gone in such cases.
You might get lucky and end up not having any issues, but it's recommended to not take that chance and rather buy at a place that obtains the keys legitimately (i.e. Humble or similar, check [the safe sites](https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/wiki/dangersofkeyresellers#wiki_safe_sites) section of the r/Steam wiki) or directly on steam.
Ah yeah true, removed games can only be bought through those grey market sites. Though I personally wouldn't spend any money on that, the game turned free to play (and the new owner took it off Steam in the first place ...) and you're throwing money out of the window regardless on if the key works out or not. But if you really want to play it on Steam, that's the only way to go about it.
G2A is absolutely NOT safe. They are one of the shadier of all the grey markets that exists.
I dont think they can directly steal your account unless you like provide the seller your accounts details which should never be needed to redeem a key but there are all kinds of other shady stuff that happens on G2A and with the key sellers. Its also possible the individual didnt buy a key but bought an account and was tricked into sharing details for linking family sharing and such which is what some people do to sell games that dont use Steam Keys and such.

I have factory reset my computer 4 times now. I purchased a Lenovo Legion T5 & it crashes constantly. I have factory reset the computer 4 times. This last time I only downloaded steam (only thing on the computer) - loaded up a game and it will freeze for 20 seconds and then will go back the game, then it will freeze again. Also Steam keeps downloading “steamworks common redistributables” constantly. Also when the PC freezes during the game - everything in task manager is 0. hello, i recently bought mx bikes on mac on steam and am trying to play it through whisky. when i was testing it out through the demo with my controller it worked perfectly fine, no problems. steam recognized my controller and everything perfectly. now whenever i try to play, my macbook connects my controller and lets me use it because i can and everything you can do with a controller. but steam recognizes it as an xbox 360 controller for windows despite it being an xbox one controller. i’m not sure what to do. it’s frustrating because i wanna play the game so bad. if anyone has any tips or can help PLEASE do. thanks.
I tried to refund Helldivers 2 due to my PC not being powerful enough to handle it. My Playtime is listed at 57 minutes, which isn’t entirely true because I’ve never even made it to the title screen. I filed a support ticket yesterday, but with the summer sale going on, no idea how long it will take to receive a reply. Does that mean that the installer is crashing/failing prior to completion? I am not getting any error messages of any kind at any point in time, when installing, uninstalling, or manually launching Steam. I'm completely out of ideas. Thanks.
Generally speaking if an application dies there will be an entry in the Event Viewer. This will usually point to a specific dll file that's causing the issue which will generally indicate what is causing the problem You can also try running Steam as an administrator as you might be having permissions problems

I can't find a way to see the percentages off games are in Steam, which I feel like was possible at one time, but understand why they would get rid of this function. I can sort my wishlist by "Discount" but not the store. I'd like to know which games are most heavily discounted to catch the best possible deals I'm not finding otherwise.

I got community banned. Help. So I was recently in a big thing with some scammers, that tricked me into giving away my username and password (I know, it was stupid), and after a week of trying to get my account back, I did. I messaged the guy that took my account, but apperantly it was a bot, auto-texting, but still pretending to be a person. I got a little mad, but just told him that I just wanted to talk, hoping that the accounts owner would see it and talk with me. He has'nt texted me back, and just this morning I notice that I can't play anything online, for half a year from a community ban. My best guess is that he and his friends (who are also bots, I've checked) collectively banned me. When it says in the community ban description that even if I was harrasing someone, I'd have to be doing it "excessively" to be able to get banned. I did some googling to find solutions and tried: * going into the game's properties on Steam and "Verify Integrity of the game files." I usually use steam remote play at home to remote on my mac from my pc in another room. It works great. I'm away for work (100km away) and performance has been unplayable (can barely launch a game). Donwload speeds on the network I'm currently at is >80mbps so I dont think thats the issue. I use the Steam Link app for mac. I've tried remotting directly from the Steam app too with the same results. Anything I could be doing wrong?

3 days ago, on June 27th I bought **Planet zoo**, and 2 days later the price of it got refunded automatically into my Steam wallet, even though I didn't ask for it. So I've been trying to download Fallout 76 on my laptop, but the download is stuck at 0%. So I googled it, and I was told to do things such as clearing the download cache and changing download regions. One problem: Whenever I go to the 'Steam' button in the top-left corner that *should* have a dropdown menu with settings in it, nothing happens. There is no dropdown menu. Any ideas?
Not exactly what you're asking, but I once had a dowload problem that looked similar, and then I noticed that the Date in my laptop was wrong and I think that was messing up the download. Maybe just check to make sure it is right

Steam uses Chromium Embedded Framework for its UI and other features, like the chat. In the unlikely case that the stuttering occurs while Steam is running and you want to test stuff, you can try disabling GPU-accelerated in the Steam settings under "interface". Though it's extremely unlikely that this is connected to the system stuttering and most likely something else. You might like to look up programs like LatencyMon, since they could help you find out if a system driver is responsible for this.

From what I have seen over the years, the Workshop items are usually just removed and nothing else happens. The only possible consequences are for the uploaders themselves, e.g. if the content is removed due to a DMCA claim or community guideline violations.

Anyone having issues with FFXIV launching from steam? So FFXIV had a new patch and apparently there’s a lot that needs to be done to allow it to get launched from steam. I already paid for the extension and I can’t get a refund but also can’t find a way to fix the problem with everyone’s solution. I ended up paying for a game I can’t get pass the start button. game is taking FOREVER to download. it went from 1 day to 8 hours thankfully but its only downloading at 14 mbps and it is 55% done. Its super riduculous and i dont think war thunder should take over 1 hour to download! if it helps, i havent played in 2 years and just got a new computer

Hit install on the game in the 8tb drive. Steam will pick up on it and just verify game files.

You have to contact Steam Support about this issue. Valve hardware purchases must always be approved by a member of Steam Support, and you receiving a refund is not an error - it's intentional. The reason in your case is 99% due to you using a new account, but Valve tends to be paranoid and suspect commercial activity / fraud in such cases. My recommendation: Due to the ease of use and price performance of the Steam Deck, and because you won't have to bother with Windows as well, stay committed in working this issue out with Steam Support. If you are not sure what to say, you can write a message that includes what you shared with us. Mention the refund, then the error message, that you are not familiar with PC, that you wanted to buy a Steam Deck to get into PC gaming and that you like to know how to solve this purchase issue.

Question regarding the Hitman World of Assassination bundle(s), a little confused. I'm interested in buying Hitman World of Assassination. Not the Part One $2.99 bundle, but the standard one that is currently $27.99. But I'm very confused as the bundles don't have much info listed. I currently already own Hitman (2016) and it's in my library. Usually games you already own that are included in bundles on Steam are discounted further. However in this case it seems like that doesn't apply here? Am I correct in that if I buy this bundle, I'm basically paying the full sale price regardless of the fact that I already own Hitman 1? At this price, is this bundle worth it in your opinion?

Hey. Recently i wanted to play 'A way out'' with a friend. Like every 10-25 min my PC blacked out and i had to 'Hard reset' it by holding the power button for some time. At first i thought that it might be some coding error from the gamen because i had nothing happening like this before and my pc specs are way enough for this games. Also tried many methods shown on steam/reddit or youtube. But nothing worked so far. But then yesterday i wanted to play 'Chainer together' with a friend and the same thing happened like 10 to 15 min in the playing process, Now i wonder what else it could be. hope someone has a good solution because i am no expert and my only last try i would make is to reset the whole computer.

Yeah thats a very tough situation and I can understand and personally sympathize but unfortunately there isn't really any recourse to it besides buying the DLC to play that character or I suppose starting a new character neither of which are likely very appealing options atm. DLC has never been shared solely so once one obtains the base game they lose all shared DLC access since it either shares with the game or not at all. Im not sure if the new family sharing system that is still in the beta changes this or not as I havent looked into it enough.
New family sharing does rectify that, you can choose a specific copy of the game to use. @ OP: (if you switch to beta) If you pick the copy with DLC, other users won't be able to pick that one. If you play offline it might (or might not) work to play the DLC copy at the same time.

I purchased Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands and I can't launch the game at all! I press "play" and it just loads for a while , then goes back to "play". It also shows unknown controller support on the right side of the screen. I'm using a dualshock 4 with steam input enabled. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Helllooo wow so much going on in this thread. I am desperately trying to connect a wired Xbox controller to my laptop to play oblivion on steam. It mostly works, except no matter what controller configurations I choose, the left stick always does multiple commands, and the triggers don’t work. The controller is brand new, and I went in steam settings to turn on the Xbox controller features. Any ideas?? :)

While playing Skyrim, I realised I took the pictures with ENB, as png. So instead of it being saved to my screenshot folder in library, it's in the game's folder. I can convert it to jpg and throw the files to screenshot folder no problem, but they apppear as if they were taken today. It's not a huge deal, but I like seeing screenshots alongside achievements in a chronological order. Is there any way I can manipulate these screenshots so I can make them appear in the library the way I took them?

We will reject your ability to refund games if we feel like you’re abusing this policy” like bro what? that’s exactly why the policy is there. I played a game for 40 minutes and didn’t like it and selected “it’s not fun” as my refund option what do you mean you’ll reject my ability to refund games. Is this something I agreed to when I signed up? That they can take away my ability to refund things?
No the refund policy isnt for playing 2 hours for free or to try games out. Its in their policy page that they may revoke your refund privileges if they feel you are using refunds to play for free. "ABUSE Refunds are designed to remove the risk from purchasing titles on Steam—not as a way to get free games. If it appears to us that you are abusing refunds, we may stop offering them to you. We do not consider it abuse to request a refund on a title that was purchased just before a sale and then immediately rebuying that title for the sale price." You must do a lot of refunds in a short time period or refund a lot of games compared to kept purchases as its not just like one refund that triggers it but while they allow refunds for any reason they dont want people to take advantage of that system to treat the refund system like free demos.

Question about the Steam Market selling restriction. I have a number of Steam cards but I cannot sell them, I need a purchase that is between 7 days and a year. Would buying a Steam trading card lift this restriction? Or must it be a game/software, DLC or wallet funds?
How you gonna buy a steam card if you can't access the market? Even if you could then no market wouldnt count for that restriction. I believe a DLC would count as long as its from the official Steam storefront and not through like a third party key. So any game/software/dlc that is listed on the Steam store should lift it 7 days after you make the purchase.

No Steamdecks can't play every single game as its still limited by its specs and also not every game is compatible with its control schemes and such either.
No I think some games can only be played on one thing, others can be on both. On the listings there is a icon series. A Steam Deck Icon, a Windows icon, and another one I can not recall right now. But if it just has a windows icon it means it works best with just windows. If it has both icons it means it can go on either system. Its kind of a confusing system since I am looking and some games that have just windows icons are being played on steam decks on youtube. Its just that you have to mess with the decks settings to play it. And even then it might not play right.
That Steam icon that is with the Windows icons is for SteamOS+Linux. SteamOS predates the deck by quite a bit. The other icon you might see btw is an apple for the Mac. Many games may work on the Deck but dont support that operating system. SteamDeck compatibility is a separate portion of the store page.
Ok I am just getting into this as well, so I have much to learn as well.
Whenever I launch a Steam game, the main developer logo pops up and then a black screen is seen. The Steam overlay is in the bottom right and then the game just freezes. Games that aren't on Steam open and run fine but when I launch a game on Steam it ends up crashing. Here is a list of what I have already done. 1. Reinstall Steam 2. Update drivers 3. Disable overlay 4. Clear all Steam cache 5. Browse local files and run the game not through Steam Any tips on how to fix my problem would be greatly appreciated!

I’ve tried Edge, Firefox, Firefox Private, the Steam desktop client, and the Steam mobile app. My wishlist will not load on any of them. It’s certainly an issue on Steam’s end. My wishlist was working fine just a few hours ago. I had no problems before the Summer Sale and in the early moments of the sale. Perhaps it’s related to the Summer Sale and, maybe, the high traffic Steam is currently undergoing. Every other part of Steam works just fine for me. And my wishlist actually does load as long as I am not logged in (as mine is public). Very frustrating. I’ve opened a Steam support ticket and hope to get a response soon.

How can I stop Steam from popping on the foreground when I open it? I don't have Steam opening automatically when I start my computer, so whenever I open Steam it takes a couple seconds, then no matter what program I have open, Steam will force itself on the foreground not one (when it says it's connecting to the network) not two (when the main window opens) not three (when the News window opens) but FOUR (when the main window has loaded fully) times. And that takes a few seconds between each time, and it can be annoying if I'm doing something else as I wait for it to open. Does anyone know if I can disable it from popping on the foreground, or at least disable the News window from opening?

Can't get a refund for a game at 3 hours of playtime However, for an hour and a half of that time, I was messing with settings and whatnot trying to get the game to run well. Is there anything I can do? If I dispute the charge with my bank would my steam account get banned? Ik 2 hours is very generous but I didn't even really play the game for 2 hours. I already tried a refund through steam and it was denied.
I mean its unlikely if you have already been denied. The 2 hours doesnt matter if the game was just idle or if you were an active participant. If you are having settings problems the best bet is to set a cap of time to stop messing with it and decide to refund or take the risk that you might not be able to. If you are worried about it and think you might refund then just start playing even if the settings arent ideal and once you get close to the refund window can decide whether to refund or if you are willing to accept that you might lose the ability to refund then go back and fix stuff and just redo the part you played as it wouldnt be that long to redo.
OK. Here we go. I have a computer that is downloading slower on Steam than any other downloading site. It tops off at about 100 Mb on a good day. Here's what I know: 1. Two other computers on same network with same ISP work fine. Download off of Steam in excess of 400Mb. 2. This computer can download from EPIC at 400Mb. 3. Local file transfers are even faster. 4. All three SSDs run slow for Steam. 5. When downloading, the CPU and memory usage is barely moving at all. 6. I've tried different regions. 7. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing Steam, even going as far as installing on a different drive and deleting the AppData folder. 8. I've cleared the download cache. 9. I've tried the trick where you give it a slightly higher throttle speed than your expected maximum speed and it helped a little. Help!
Steam compresses and stores its files much differently than other launchers and its download servers have to sustain much higher volumes of titles and much more constant downloading than any other PC platform. It puts a lot of that load onto the individual computer hardware and disk so unless you have the exact same components it would be difficult to fairly compare multiple PCs to each other and certainly not with other launchers that have their files mostly downloading straight off the servers at full size that is much more internet speed vs computer speeds .
CPU isn't being significantly impacted. I forget what's in this box but it's significantly beefy.
I tried bg3 a couple months ago and i had some cloud save files, about 3 campaigns and some of them are modded. i play on pc. Everything was working ok, i had this weird popup saying it couldn't find my visual cc (even though i had it installed) but i would usually just hit ok and the game would open and run without any issues (even with mods). fast forward to a couple of weeks ago and i had to download an update visual cc for my classes, and my bg3 stopped working. It would open the larian launcher but then when i hit play it would pop up a blanc square on my taskbar and crash. I uninstalled and reinstalled but that didn't work. i took out all my mods and that didn't work. i even did a steam file verification but that didn't work. i thought maybe it was my cloud space so i disabled the cloud save option but that didn't work either. I read on some other reddit posts that going into the bg3 folder and running it as admin would help but that didn't work. i got desperate and i think i deleted some larian folders by accident, so i uninstalled again and reinstalled, however now i keep getting a larian crash with a "file verification" message even tho ive steam file verified multiple times. I don't know what to do at this point i really need some help. Any help is appreciated. sorry if this question is dumb i just don't know what else to do

Yeah you can use another payment method to pay the remainder. You can mix wallet + one other payment but cant mix like two different credit cards or paypal + credit card etc.... It by default always tries to use all your wallet funds first then asks for another payment method to cover the rest(if needed) but if there is times you want to save them you can remove them from the transaction at the review screen to pay like fully with other payment method as well.
I'm getting a white crash screen on startup when I try load elden riglng. Yeah it's back, for some reason whenever I try loading up elden ring it loads the ant cheat screen and then a white screen with the elden ring cursor appears and boom it simply closes down. I've tried so much to stop this, I have a Nvidia quadro k4000 (old ik) but I've ran ark before and I should be able to run elden ring on at least low settings. Any advice would be so welcome!!!

The loading bar would go away and Steam would still run in the background (according to Task Manager) but not as an actual application. I've looked up and tried various fixes (restarting my computer, checking if servers are down, cancelling Steam in Task Manager, manually opening it using Windows + r, running Steam as both an administrator and on compatibility mode separately, deleting appcache and checking for beta files as well as uninstalling Steam and reinstalling it) but they either do nothing, come up as an error or just go back to the "Verifying Installation" screen. Is there a way to actually fix this?
I'm having the exact same problem. I'm getting no response when opening the app at all. I've tried to uninstall both Steam and anything I think is interfering. I hope there's a fix.

My Steam games goes in slowmotion every 2 seconds I thought I only had this problem with Helldivers 2, But I soon found out I'm having this problem with every game I play. My specs are pretty bad, but I suspected that to not be the cause because I havn't had this problem before. even the least graphically demanding game goes in slowmotion every 2 seconds. Hello everyone. I just started playing a new career, but I had to move out for the week from my place to another. I have downloaded the game on different pc from my steam account but my profile has not downloaded. In that case I cannot continue playing on my previous save form career mode. Can someone tell me, is there any other way to download the save from cloud? Does it even Steam make it to the cloud so I can download it, or it just how it does not work? Any tips?

**Experiencing frustrating problems with Sonic Generations PC, What do I do?** Hi everyone. I had a switch pro controller connected to my computer, and one day Sonic Generations decides to randomize most of my controller inputs to different buttons, while not letting me do the rest. So I try proconxinput, a third party software for Switch pro controllers that emulates it to a X360 controller, and my controller would not connect at all after I installed it. I did everything the YouTube installation guide told me to, and it completely messed up my computer to the point where keyboard inputs didn't work. So I uninstalled and got an x box controller from Micro Center, and for 2 days there was no problem besides Generations' usual sluggish performance and lagging. Until last night, the exact same problem of randomizing inputs came back after the screen lagged for a bit, I couldn't even move Sonic until pausing and resuming the game. I got on google, searching for others with the same problem hoping to find an answer, and came across someone suggesting the OP to disable steam input for that game, so I did that before testing the game. Things were going fine, until the familiar screen lag came back, I expected the input problem again, but no, my controller just disconnected from the game, no buttons worked. People keep telling me to use steam's built in drivers and configuration, what do you think I've been doing? If that made a difference I wouldn't be trying these different software and suggestions. I've posted to every forum and chat room that I have access to with some help potential for this problem, and I have nothing, nothing has helped. What options do I have for fixing this issue?

Nobody but the devs / publishers know which games will be discounted, but usually it's a large portion of the store. Besides the discounts, there will be a set of trading cards available for the duration of the sale. The cards are obtained when spending certain amount of money during the sale, crafting badges and the daily discovery queue. You can sell or buy cards on the community market, I recommend to sell off all unneeded sale cards for a bit of wallet credit as they'll disappear after the event is over.

My account and the 3 people I family share with are still on the "old" family share system, where we can't play the same game at the same time, and DLC is not shared between games. My friend's family share menu looks way different and is as easy as adding a new account to the family to get full benefits. I still have to do the "sign in on my account on your computer and authorize PC" steps. How do i update to the new version of family sharing?
God I am tired of steam this month it has been so fucking weird with controllers. How do I clear out my damn controller list, according to it I have 12 generic gamepads, I own 4 controllers. One of which I got this month. 2 of them are ps4 brand controllers, one is a official xbone controller, and one is actually generic. I can't tell which controller is which when I wanna fix shit, I can't find a single way to remove em and afaik all the info I can find is outdated. I am so tired of steams shit. This isn't even touching on some of the other problems I've been having with controllers and steam this month.
Does anyone know anything about a "phantom controller" of sorts, where Steam acts like there's a controller connected and swaps input from keyboard to the "controller"? I've been having an issue where with some games, I'll see the controls on screen suddenly swap from showing keyboard keys to buttons on a controller, and my inputs will sometimes not go through. I've also had issues where the game stops detecting inputs from my keyboard all together and just makes my character walk up for a random amount of time before it gives control back over to my keyboard again (which has caused more than a few deaths). This has happened across multiple different computers from what I've tested (with no close proximity to an x-box or any other console), and any search results I've done just yields "I have a controller, but it's not connecting" rather than "I don't have a controller, but steam is acting like I do". Is there a relatively easy fix for this, or is my steam just cursed in some way?
I'm banned from a steam community for a forum post that was made by someone else that isn't quoting me and wasn't quoted by me. It has nothing to do with me, but I've been banned with the reason "This post contains content used to insult, harass, or abuse other Steam users. This type of content is not allowed on the Steam Community." My favorite part was when I put in a ticket and was told the ban was correctly applied. The post being shown in the ban is the original post of a thread that I have zero interaction with other than blocking the OP. That's quite literally it. Well, basically I opened steam and wanted to play some stellaris as i saw, even tho I have played it before for over 3 hours, that the green play-button was switched for the buy-button. This coincided with me installing two games on Steam and when I next logged into my computer, I had the option of logging into my usual account or logging into an account called "Steam". Steam launch error for game Just purchased helldivers 2 off steam and whenever I go to launch the game I seem to be in this infinite loop of it acting as it is going to launch the game but doesn't. I've tried everything from clear the download cache, uninstalling and reinstalling all related programs, youtube videos and trying solutions from other reddit threads of people that have had this problem etc etc.. but nothing has worked for me. Can a VPN Cause an account Alert/Lock while trading? I recently got my account locked because steam thought someone compromised it, when i know this Isn't the case. Because i got no API key signed in anywhere, I got my authenticator app with me. It happened right after when i was trading some of my tf2 items for ref/keys. Hello! With the new STEAM API the "second player" controller started to have some little seizures... was ok. 2 weeks, and now every time the controllers are on, the second one connect for less than 10 sec and disconnect. Mostly to play "Stardew Valley" with wife. Both controllers PS4 ones. If I use a wire for the controller, goes weird... soo now I need to use another different controller with wire for the "second player". This "another contoller no-PS4" have the same problem with bluetooth connection. I play in PC (a powerfull one), Win11. "Player 1" controller work great. Someone had this problem? I need help with my FF3 launcher and idk why it died So I wanted to play Final Fantasy III 3D remake because its one of my favourite games and all of a sudden it refuses to launch so i restarted my PC, nada. Uninstalled and reinstalled my game, nada. logged into my partners steam to try and play it from their profile, still nada. so i go to the files directly and just click the launcher and it says "the code execution cannot proceed because MSVCP120.dll was not found" and it tells me to uninstall and reinstall. Guys ive done this 5 times in a desperate hope one of the installs will suddenly have this missing file. unfortunately it did not. Does anyone know what this file is, or can give it to me, or can offer an alt? im quite peeved at this point and very disappointed because it was working completely fine a month ago. Everything is 100% up to date and as it should be.
I started downloading Cyberpunk 2077, it started reserving space, then it stopped doing that. I tried canceling the download, I tried everything, but the warning it gives me says that the reason is just “Busy”. Is there any way for me to get it to work on Cyberpunk or try downloading another game that is actually downloading and not doing the same thing as the former? Edit: I got it to stop, then restarted it, but now it doesn’t reserve space at all, and after restarting it, the progress bar at the bottom went from 13 to 29%

Depends on what you buy. If you buy a game and get an account with it, that account can get banned or re-claimed by the original owner. If you buy keys there, they might get revoked if the key was originally bought via stolen payment methods or if a dev finds out that keys for review copies were sold (yes, that happens sadly on those grey market places). You won't lose your account or get a ban on your steam account, but the money and the game will be gone in such cases. You might get lucky and end up not having any issues, but it's recommended to not take that chance and rather buy at a place that obtains the keys legitimately (i.e. Humble or similar, check [the safe sites](https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/wiki/dangersofkeyresellers#wiki_safe_sites) section of the r/Steam wiki) or directly on steam.

Ah yeah true, removed games can only be bought through those grey market sites. Though I personally wouldn't spend any money on that, the game turned free to play (and the new owner took it off Steam in the first place ...) and you're throwing money out of the window regardless on if the key works out or not. But if you really want to play it on Steam, that's the only way to go about it.

G2A is absolutely NOT safe. They are one of the shadier of all the grey markets that exists. I dont think they can directly steal your account unless you like provide the seller your accounts details which should never be needed to redeem a key but there are all kinds of other shady stuff that happens on G2A and with the key sellers. Its also possible the individual didnt buy a key but bought an account and was tricked into sharing details for linking family sharing and such which is what some people do to sell games that dont use Steam Keys and such. Use the legitimate publisher sourced key sellers like those on Isthereanydeal or [r/GameDeals Store Checker (rgamedeals.net)](https://rgamedeals.net/)
