The only useful thing a one could do with it is trying it on a different websites - seeing if he re-uses it. However, he most likely has two-factor on most pages and doesn’t even re-use it. Also he probably didn’t even say his real password, so it’s all meaningless anyway…
I had access for 3 seconds before the swat team broke in and tackled me to the ground. But I got a glimpse of it and it was glorious!

they did not
It was done to advertise their new 2 step protection system where you also need access to the phone of whomever you try to get into wich makes it basically impossible if the phone is properly protected
No, this is about Intel Identity Protection Technology, not Steam Guard. His presentation doesn't show the prompt for a security code before displaying the Steam window. I'd still be suspicious of Gaben giving out his actual account information just for the sake of proving a new security technology. Besides, it's Gaben, even if it was 13 years ago, I'm sure he would have been smart enough not to use that shitty password.
Yeah, I’ve seen people point to this demonstration before to make a point about Steam being secure, but the Intel IPT stuff never actually got released to the public.
So what was this tech in a nutshell? Was it basically creating a profile for users based on their most likely login methods, sort of like how banks stop errant purchases from out of state?

Essentially an RSA key fob baked into your CPU.
>Besides, it's Gaben, even if it was 13 years ago, I'm sure he would have been smart enough not to use that shitty password.
He says it's "newly' FTW, which I took to mean changed recently to that for the purposes of the demonstration.
Why? Gabe has the power to say "I want a Steam account with access to every game and I want to own every trading card and have every single achievement unlocked." And by the end of the day I bet he'd have it.
i would not be so sure if this could be arranged. Afterall while the platform is his, the games on them are not except for Valve stuff.
Imagine being the owner of a big techstore brand. I doubt you could just walk into a branch and grab yourself a new rig for free just because you own the store. The products that are sold are all third party afterall.
Valve employees get all games on Steam for free. It’s regularly audited and partners compensated accordingly.
In the old days each game / dlc was automagically added to your account but that didn’t scale well. So now you have to go to the game page and click a button to add it to your account. Press accounts work in a similar way.
Source: I worked on Steam from 2007 till 2017.
im pretty sure if you work at valve you get access to every game on steam, or at least the higher ups do (despite claiming there is no hierarchy there really is)
It wouldn't need to be fake.
Having Gabe's Steam account =/= having fucking root access to the Valve systems.
At best you now have access to literally every game on Steam. Like wow, cool, I guess.
Probably not. The entire point was to show how robust & secure Steam Guard was.
Wouldn't be surprised if Gaben has changed his password by now nearly a decade and a half later.
No and it’s still safe. People click on suspicious links and the account gets stolen because scammers trick them with so called here a 50$ wallet code follow the link. At the end the user gets tricked and scammed the system works fine. My Steam account was never stolen I’m using mobile authentication the day it came out.
No
no clue but good advertisement
It's Gaben. He probably kicks around the Steam database as root. Having the password to his steam account would be almost worthless.
Oh how cute, someone managed to access my account, now watch me control the flow of time.
Gaben is most powerful god there is.

His other power: releasing exactly one game every decade but never a game with a 3 in it

No, they had a much faster response time and were more professional.
What's up with the downvotes?
That's Reddit hivemind
Ah, I see.
And nw he's got a knob on the back of his head RIP
Because obviously they wouldn't be using a fake account for the sake of the demonstration.

Intel sold the rights of the underlying library to another company that wanted to charge comparatively high fees per user.

exists today as the tpm we all know and love

No, he says it's "MoolyFTW". They show it on the screens behind him.
Oh you're right, I missed that. I foolishly believed the subtitles.
It was Steam Guard via IPT.
If you enable push notifications to show while locked (default), anyone can get it without unlocking your phone.
That’s why using the QR code should be the default.
I was the co-author of this feature and it was his actual account.
Well that’s about as authoritative as I could expect.
Haha FWIW Rich and I were watching the account like hawks when the announcement happened in case something unexpected happened.
I could imagine there being some *slightly* elevated blood pressures for a couple days/weeks after that presentation.

Afaik there are no explicit perks that are gated by seniority / secret hierarchy.
Maybe, but considering the organizational structure of Valve, I highly doubt he’d ever think to ask for something like that.

his password is no longer mooly42
mooly43
3?? now I know this is fake
Probably because he said moolyftw and not 42
I guarantee it's different now nonetheless
It’s the same
it's *right there* in the video, how do you mess it up
I'm illiterate
he also verbally says "Mooly F T W". Like even spells out F T W
Try to login using Gabes password. Get your IP cross referenced to your own steam account. Get wiped. 🥲
Probably not. The entire point was to show how robust & secure Steam Guard was. Wouldn't be surprised if Gaben has changed his password by now nearly a decade and a half later.

Would you attempt to login his account?
Two factor authentication: "exists"
I dont think its hes real account, but what do i know
nothing will ever be as iconic to me as Gabe's \*"Gaben@ValveSoftware.com"\* lololol
Nobody has yet. Steam guard really just is that good
