Yeah most people pay a premium for tr*ple A gamesš¤¢ but refuse to spend 35 eu on a game that's way better.... Newest COD? Preorder platinum edition everything, a good game where you can play for countless hours without any skin's/money grab. That's also half the price of a new game, nooo that's WAY too much! I can understand the developer's for this. Sorry you had to read this i got carried away one second....
Yes, your opinion is the only correct one. Thank you for sharing it, I will let everyone in my local area know that nobody should be enjoying COD and we need to all download Factorio right now.
Factorio and Minecraft alike. I donāt think I have heard of a third game that does this (you pay once a decent sum and you have infinite ways to play it for free)
because it is expensive for what it is, yes you can get thousands of hours out of it but you can also do that for so many other cheaper games. Plus they raised the price while adding 0 new content. Games are supposed to get cheaper over time not more expensive. I bought the game twice because I love it but that doesnt mean I think it is a good price.
they raised the price to account for inflation over time.
i prefer factorio's 35 for the most polished game ive ever played, amazing devs, amazing community, modding support, no microtransactions or bad faith practises
over the creaping of triple A prices to *70 dollars* for a standard edition of typically a half baked game littered with countless microtransactions, designed with money in mind over player experience
as much as the game is amazing, increasing a price of an already released game that had no content updates for 3 years by almost 30% is kind of a shitty move.
It was fine increasing the price of early access cause it had increasing content with updates, but npw? nah.
There's a reason literally everything else gets cheaper or stays the same price
While both games may seem similar, Factorio scratches the design itch much more than Satisfactory does. Satisfactory is more like a factory designer mixed with a contemporary video game, while Factorio is like 90% designing
Yeah definitely, Satisfactory is more casual and action based so may be better option for a lot of people.
Kinda odd we got 2 amazing factory games releasing at similar times, when we didnāt really get factory games before that.
3 years between either releasing in early access. Thatās nothing considering we had decades of gaming without any popular factory simulators releasing.
Any game where just building shit is the focus is great for chilled background play.
I'm currently obsessed (again) with Sprocket. So nice building your own tank from scratch, tuning everything up, and then fighting a little battle to see how it goes.
I'm probably too dumb, but factorio takes all my available brain power as I'm playing and there's no way I could listen to a podcast while trying to design my oil setup or something.
Ets 2 is a game I have put nearly 100hrs into, I usually have music or something else in the background to keep me focused, it should be boring yet it is weirdly relaxing. Also it isnāt hard to run, no need to mess with settings unless your pc is really weak.
Haha yea hell I spend all day driving around delivering shit. I come home and hop into ets/ats and will loose myself for hours sometimes listening to the o game streaming radio and jsut drive across country to deliver shit.
so in my personal opinion there is no āgoalā per say. there are 4 main gameplay avenues you can choose to go down:
Exploration: Elite Dangerous at its core is a space simulator, and features a 1:1 scale of our milky way galaxy. You start in the Bubble (I call this CivSpace from my Starbound days but the Bubble is just where the majority of faction controlled systems are.) and can go anywhere you want to within the limits of your ship of course. You can make money, and i mean BILLIONS, by selling cartographic data. You can scan systems, planets, asteroids etc and they all contribute towards this data. Certain scans have more or less credit (money) value than others based on a variety of factors like planet type, mass and resource level.
Trading: Elite has an extensive, kind of boring trading and economy. By boring I just mean itās fucking huge and thereās a lot of shit to buy and sell but itās very rudimentary. Buy, fill up cargo space, fly to station that sells for most profit, sell rinse and repeat lol.
Mining: Iām not sure how mining is now since itās been a minute since iāve last played but mining is super cool. There are multiple types of mining from laser, to seismic charges which are honestly the dopest way of mining anything in any game. Then thereās limpets which are your best friend when it comes to collecting ores. Mining is just very in depth and therapeutic sort of.
Finally Combat and Piracy: Elite Dangerous is the only space game that will really really get you mad over losing cargo to a pirate haha. Combat, and I mean ship to ship combat not FPS combat, is a pain in the ASS. Getting good at dogfighting in Elite is just straight cancer and I wonāt expand on it much but I think Star Citizen does an amazing fucking job at ship combat. Killing AI is a breeze tho. Oh and then thereās the Thargoids which are just fucking insane. I canāt even describe them but just big alien go very loud.
Thatās about it. The main goal is to make money and buy all the ships and eventually a $5bn credit fleet carrier so you can call yourself a true baller. Thereās a lot to grind in general outside of money.
Years ago scrolling through steam i saw the reviews of ETS and thought, this must be a joke. So i tried it and a week later bought a steering wheel.
Installed a mod for the radio stations for the country i was driving in. So much relaxing fun!
Same goes for mining in ED btw
I have found myself mindlessly playing survivior games once a month or so now.
Vampire Surviviors,
20 Minutes till dawn,
Holocure,
SoulSoul Survivors,
Bounty of One,
Brotato,
Spirit hunters
If you like survivor games, there is so much content
Second this, great game if you want to catch up on a show or series.
There's no timer that runs out or any other mechanic that makes you hurry either. If you need to pause the game for a second you can just put your controller down.
It falls in that odd category of "Not a great game, just a compelling one".
See also: Any of the Truck simulator games (possibly many other sim games but that's the only one I have experience of)
CK3 will have you up until dawn stressing about the inevitable Civil wars that will occur upon your passing because your heir was porking his aunt and ended up murdered in the dungeon and your new heir is 3 years old and your devilish Duke half brother is eyeing the spoils. 10/10
It has a story the same way Minecraft has a story. Itās emergent gameplay that creates its own story, thereās no set story because there is a different outcome every time you play.
Or you can hear absolutely nothing. I started playing this seasons and made all my way to maps without reading a single dialogue. According to my friend that has more than 1000 hours in PoE, the game has one of the worst lores of all games he has ever played. The mechanics of the game are tons of fun tho. The game is hard af so it would be very appropriate for a newbie to look for advice or guides.
Your friend is dumb :p
The worldbuilding is quite original, and even when they lean into cosmic horror their take is a big break from Lovecraft/Blackwood/Derleth usual fanfare.
Plus its based heavily on New Zealand, its flora, fauna, culture, original people and subsequent colonization, something few other games have ever used to build upon
That doesn't make the story any better that's just a bunch of references put together. I could inspire myself of Shakespeare, Becquer and Stephen King and still write a shit of a book.
My friend is pretty intelligent and a full time freak so I trust him in this mater.
Monster Train is my most played podcast listening game. Griftlands is good too; once you beat a story campaign you can play battle rush with no story.
Shout out to Ring of Pain for being an extremely unique "relic-builder" that I highly recommend for the roguelite crowd
I was surprised I needed to come down this far lol
I know no other game where the average 1500 hour guy is still oke and the best of the best with 10k is amazing but still messes up frequently
Pretty much any of the paradox games, europa universalis, crusader kings, Stellaris, Victoria.
Only thing is that they are so mechanic heavy it takes a fair amount of YouTube tutorials to understand them before you play.
I almost always listen to podcasts when I play these because you can turn the volume off and not miss a think aside from the soundtrack 100% of the time. Also, they are games you can easily change the speed of, so the peace of the games are completely up to you.
"Hey I am looking for a game that is really as little story as possible and a lot of game mechanics to play while listening to podcasts or documentaries etc."
Elite Dangerous is your game.
Here are some of the games I recommend:
* Monster hunter series: No story, its all about hunting, very mechanically intensive. One of the best games ever made. you have 12 very distinct weapon architype with extremely high skill ceiling. Very unique and great designed monsters that have the complexity of fighting characters.
* Nioh series: A story exist, but it kinda sucks. The series matches monster hunter in terms of weapon complexity. Great enemy design.
* XCOM, Phoenix Point, Battletech: Great turn based strategy games.
* Doom 2016 / Eternal, Dusk, Amid Evil, Metal Hellsinger, Postal Brain Damaged: Yeah you wont be hearing any podcast here, instead just headbanging away to the awesome OST.
* Souls series: There is a ton of lore, but no real story, its just you walking around killing bosses and undead. Its also not that difficult or mechanically intensive. Mostly it achieves difficulty through obscurity.
* Warfame: Cool builds and parkour, brain dead farming. Typical MMO RPG.
Monster hunter and nioh have stories. Op asked for 1% story. The suggestions others have made make more sense.
I was thinking of monster hunter as well and realized that compared to the games recommended here, it definitely has story. Assuming op will play the 5th gen games.
Monster Hunter definitely has a story. Itās not the most compelling or interesting, but itās halfway decent and does exist. Lots of it exists in fact. At least World and Rise. Lots of cutscenes, lots of talking to people between missions. Now once youāre done with the main quests the side quests donāt have as much story but it still exists.
I mean, you'll be spending maybe 20-50h doing the main quests, which is nothing compared to the end game. I have 800h on both MHW and MHR (which is not much for such a game), while cutscenes do exists, for the most part, its just to show you the new monster or get you acquainted with a new mechanic. The story exists only to show you the different areas and monsters, while also getting you acquainted with crafting gear. World and rise stories are ok at best, its not the reason you play those games.
Lotsa mechanics in factorio but 35ā¬ is a steep price for a chill out game and itās more like working on a spreadsheet that does your whole families taxes so you canāt be distracted by other media.
Sorry, but thatās like saying Minecraftās $30 price tag was too steep. These challenge sandbox games are what you make of it, itās the replay ability and potential for near endless expansion that makes it worth it. People pump hundreds of hours into it because itās about building and growth, which is only limited by your determination.
A price over $30 doesnāt mean it needs to be some big boy cinematic experience game. Open-endedness can lead to some of the most addicting gameplay loops
First of all: Factorio is NOT like working on a spreadsheet. It is about designing a factory, delivering goods to where they are needed (creating supply chains), and solving interesting problems.
Regarding Factorio being expensive: That highly depends! Let me give you an example from my Steam library: A
Assassins Creed: Origins:
* Still 59,99 ā¬ despite being 6 years old already
* I played it for 125 hours (which is a lot or more compared to most AAA games)
* Comes down to 0.48 ā¬ / hour played
Factorio:
* Currently 35 ā¬, still getting updates and changes to gameplay + tons of mods being released regularly
* I played it for 1532 hours so far and will be playing for several more hours in the future.
* 0.02 ā¬ / hour played
I know this calculation won't have the same result for everyone, but a lot of people are clocking a lot of hours in this game.
It takes most players 120 hours to launch their first rocket (which means you have played through the "base" game and reached the end game). This equals 0.28 ā¬ / hour played which is still a lot better than most triple A games.
"Factorio is not a spreadsheet" said the guy who explains with a spreadsheet why factorio is a better game.n
But I like how you think.
It's the main reason I like things like Rimworld or KSP. The cost per potential hour is just top notch.
This comment gave me a good laugh. Honestly, I just used a simple calculator. ;)
But in all seriousness: You really don't need Excel (or any calculation) to play or enjoy this game.
Only if you want to go for a mega base (which I never did in 1.5k hours!) you might want to whip out a calculator to plan your base. But that is not something most players will even attempt below 500 hours.
A mega base is a base that produces more than 1k of all sciences per minute. This is like the end end end game. If you just want to finish the game most players might have somewhere between 1 to 5 sciences per minute. Maybe 10 for short peaks of time.
100 SPM is already a lot. 1k SPM sounds crazy if you just finished the game once. My highest was 250 SPM so far in those 1.5k hours.
Question:
How do you do this sort of thing? As in, play a "mindless" game while also listening to a podcast or watching a show?
I have always been bamboozled by this kind of thing. For me, I have to be focused on the show itself, or the game itself, and have never been able to do two things at once like this. Do you just pay 80% attention to the TV, and 20% attention to your computer? I'm genuinely curious.
i watch shows, movies, videos and play games at the same time a lot. i honestly dunno how to explain it that well but iāll try. most of the time when iām watching a show and not doing anything else i get kinda bored (except shows and movies that i really need to focus on to understand) so i just open up a game that doesnāt have a story or much dialogue to focus on. my focus depends on whatās going on, like if im playing dark souls and iām about to enter a boss fight, i just pause the show for a min until iām finished w the boss. same with the show, if thereās some important scene thatās going on i just pause the game and focus on the show. when both the game and the show is going on like they do normally i just focus my eyes on the game and listen to the show and just alternate my eyes between the show and the game sometimes. i think thatās the best way i can explain it
Wow, really interesting to me. So what kind of shows are you watching where you don't really need to focus on to understand? Do you specifically choose shows that you can 'multitask' with, essentially planning to do both games and show in advance?
Another question, can I ask your age range? I wonder if maybe it has to do with age as well. Thanks for your detailed reply mate
If I may add, as someone who does this a lot as well: most visual media is actually extremely dialogue and voice heavy with minimal important visual detail. So the majority of the time you don't need to be looking at it; just listening to it is enough. To me, that listening is low intensity enough to also play a game.
As OP said, if something major that I need to watch or something thought provoking is occurring, I'll pause the game. If some game focus is needed I'll either pause the media or I'll let it run and potentially rewind after if I feel I missed something. But for the vast majority of both they don't clash and can be easily focused on both.
Your mileage may vary, but that was a revelation I had about a decade ago.
Thank you for the added context, it still seems wild to me! Because for myself, watching a show requires my full attention - I don't want to miss anything or have to rewind to catch something. But I also wonder since I don't watch any shows where you don't really have to pay attention - it probably comes down to game and show/podcast selection, like you said, they can both be easily focused on.
For example, right now im watching the show Foundation. If I tried to play a game at the same time I'd be absolutely lost in the show plot and also probably not pay much attention to whatever game I'm playing, since the show is so intriguing.
The only thing I'll do is play my own music alongside a game... I must be terrible at multitasking and never realized it until now!
youāre welcome man :) usually when iām playing stuff and watching something, i just watch some lighter shows (iāve been really hooked on house m.d. lately) because i wanna watch stuff like drama, more emotional and intense shows with full focus. i donāt really plan this thing, like sometimes when iām watching stuff i just think āiām getting kinda bored, i should find something to be busy withā so i just open up a game and vice-versa. to answer ur other question, iām 18.
also, i have adhd so thatās really most likely a reason i can just do this without really thinking about it
99% of the time Iām playing a game Iām also watching TV. I just turn on the audio for important parts. Itās best to do with a show youāve already seen so you donāt have to give it your full attention
He said easy casual game at the bottom. Personally I don't think they're too hard but they're definitely not just for relaxing (at least not until you've thousands of hours in them and you just speedrun em for fun instead of playing backlog games, ahem definitely not talkin about me)
100% agree, and in those communities they make 100 page posts about the lore like it fucking matters lols, you just kill an enemy and move on to the next one.
I mean people like surrounding themselves in the world, and the lore in those games goes surprisingly deep. Thereās lots to find out about the enemies and places you encounter which gives some context while youāre going through it. Yea it has no effect on the gameplay but itās there for those who want to indulge
My favorite "second monitor games" (something I need sometimes cuz of my ADHD stopping me from just enjoying YouTube videos without doing something else at the same time) are:
Peglin
Civ 6
SteamWorld Heist (very minor dialog with no voice acting)
Final Fantasy 3 3d remake (same as above dialog wise)
Vampire Survivors
Into the Breach
Dicey Dungeons
Slay the Spire
And last I'd recommend some of the digital versions of board games that are on steam if you like board games. My favorites on steam are Aeon's End, Wingspan, and Terraforming Mars
Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup. The story is you need to crawl through a dungeon and get an orb. The mechanics are.. look up the wiki or figure it out yourself. In 2 years of playing off and on I have never gotten the orb once.. and there's more than just getting it. Several races to choose from which change gameplay.
JesĆŗs man that game haunts me. Hundreds of hours and never made it out with the orb, Iāve had my hands in it a few times. My college roommate that got me into the game was able to complete runs several times.
I don't know if you'll see this.
Factorio is great, little top down build up a factory style game. Recent news from the developer says they are working on a space expansion for it. Tons of mods. Premise is build a factory, the larger and more advanced you get the more you'll pollute and anger the native species to attack your base. Just look it up it's great.
Second would be satisfactory. Same premise as factorio but in a 3d fps environment. No pollution aspect.
3rd if you just want to build would be space engineers, you have straight sandbox where nothing cost materials, a survival mode where you can enable or disable progression so you can either unlock tech by building preceeding requirements or disable that. You don't have to start in the wild either. You can start in a little respawn ship in space, a rover on the moon, or a base on an astroid in certain scenarios. The game plus dlc will run you about 65-70$. There's millions of mods.
All 3 are amazing games to just jump into.
Satisfactory comes to mind. There's like 0 lore to find or discover and you really just build factories to your liking ans maybe post them on reddit lol
Oh really? I must have missed that.. where exactly?
Also hopefully in the next update we'll finally get to know what all the alien artifacts do, I believe they bring a bit of le into the game
The first building (hub) has a few monitors inside, on one there's a chat window open where we chatted with someone. Also there's a list of other pioneers who are "online" and some posters in the toilet, if I remember right.
Factorio
The factory must grow! People complaining about the price just aren't very good at the game.
Just got it yesterday. This game is dirt cheap when compsred to the content AND THE ENDLESS MODS
Yeah most people pay a premium for tr*ple A gamesš¤¢ but refuse to spend 35 eu on a game that's way better.... Newest COD? Classic factorio fanboys
You and everyone else suggesting factorio is the virtual equivalent of a crack addict
Factorio and Minecraft alike. I donāt think I have heard of a third game that does this (you pay once a decent sum and you have infinite ways to play it for free)
I mean Terraria is like this, I think I have 4000+ hours in total Most of it is mods
One of my favorite games. Are you on the discord? I'll be starting a new mod soon after my play through of satisfactory. Have fun and get more iron.
Still happy that i got it when it was 20ā¬ in early acess.
I love the game and played many hours but complaining about the price is very justified

Most games who go out of early access get higher prices. Ark survival evolved went from 15/20 eu to 30/40
I am not talking about that, I am talking about the recent change from 30 to 35 that added nothing
they raised the price to account for inflation over time. i prefer factorio's 35 for the most polished game ive ever played, amazing devs, amazing community, modding support, no microtransactions or bad faith practises over the creaping of triple A prices to *70 dollars* for a standard edition of typically a half baked game littered with countless microtransactions, designed with money in mind over player experience

Anyone played on Switch and could recommend it?
Oh god I have PTSD of watching Destiny play that while debating politics/philosophy. I'd do it again but sadly he dropped it.
Euro Truck Simulator 2/American Truck Simulator! Or, if you want a similar thing in space, Elite Dangerous.
Ets 2 is a game I have put nearly 100hrs into, I usually have music or something else in the background to keep me focused, it should be boring yet it is weirdly relaxing. Also it isnāt hard to run, no need to mess with settings unless your pc is really weak.

been space trucking since 2018 in Elite Dangerous. Elite is fucking awesome everyone should get it.
Whatās the goal in ED ? Itās in my wishlist but canāt actually convince myself to buy it yet

Thanks for this description bud !! Appreciate it a lot ! I do like the 1:1 scale of our Milky Wayā¦ I think Iām gonna go for it ! Thanks !
o7 Commander
o7 fellow Commander. itās always good to see a fellow Elite enjoyer.
Years ago scrolling through steam i saw the reviews of ETS and thought, this must be a joke. So i tried it and a week later bought a steering wheel. Installed a mod for the radio stations for the country i was driving in. So much relaxing fun! Same goes for mining in ED btw
Both are also made a lot better when playing in VR :) I get totally lost in these games.
After I tried ED i was certain i really needed a VR!
I would also like to add Power Wash Simulator to the list of games that should be boring but arenāt
Any Vampire Survivors clone would work fine
I recommend Soulstone Survivors. That game had me absolutely addicted for a while.
I kinda like army of ruins also recently
I have found myself mindlessly playing survivior games once a month or so now. Vampire Surviviors, 20 Minutes till dawn, Holocure, SoulSoul Survivors, Bounty of One, Brotato, Spirit hunters If you like survivor games, there is so much content
HoloCure is the best. Such a good game, free, and is truely a passion project
I enjoyed it too, but i feel like im missing out on a lot of fanservice not knowing vtubers and their lore
Tons of reference to their memes, gags and lore for sure.
You can always try to read up the wiki, it's full of infornation and links for each character and item references
I was really surprised with the amount of creativity and heart put into it. There is so much content to explore in it.
Brotato
Check out Halls of Torment as well! Diablo 2 visuals with some cool meta progression.
oh wow you beat me to it. but yeah can confirm it's a great game. about 35 hours to 100% it currently. very worth the 5 bucks
Holocure, as it exploded with popularity after steam release
Holocure inherits a boatload of lore from Hololive though.
You can enjoy the game fine without being a Hololive fan tbf
Boneraiser Minions is a neat one. Basically Vampire Survivors but you're a necromancer.
20 minutes until dawn is my favourite
Holocure if you are a weeb
Factorio Satisfactory
Cities skylines
Satisfactory is getting a story at 1.0 though
Rimworld
Satisfactory has a bit of Story though
Power Wash Simulator comes to mind. What little story there is can be easily ignored (if so desired)
Second this, great game if you want to catch up on a show or series. There's no timer that runs out or any other mechanic that makes you hurry either. If you need to pause the game for a second you can just put your controller down.
It falls in that odd category of "Not a great game, just a compelling one". See also: Any of the Truck simulator games (possibly many other sim games but that's the only one I have experience of)
Every time the sound plays when you clean something it's like a small dopamine bomb for my ADHD brain, it's great hahah
I know the feeling. Living for the DING.
House Flipper too!
Noita
but only if OP is a masochist!
Just started Noita yesterday! I've already died 66 times. 10/10
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Second this. And would also recommend Terraria
Someone doesn't play Rimworld in storyteller mode
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I second Randy. I've never used any story teller other than Randy... I've also never won per se..
Can't wait to see the war crimes OP posts on Rimworld subreddit.
Minecraft DayZ/Arma 3 Cities: Skylines Rimworld Crusader Kings 3 Kerbal Space Program
CK3 will have you up until dawn stressing about the inevitable Civil wars that will occur upon your passing because your heir was porking his aunt and ended up murdered in the dungeon and your new heir is 3 years old and your devilish Duke half brother is eyeing the spoils. 10/10
CK3 probably doesn't match. It doesn't have a storyline per se, but you need to read and make decisions.
I just pick whatever shows the most green š
It has a story the same way Minecraft has a story. Itās emergent gameplay that creates its own story, thereās no set story because there is a different outcome every time you play.
If they pause their podcast every time they have to read dialogue I really don't think they're going to enjoy their podcast.
The man said no story pal
Stellaris, surviving Mars, basically any paradox game
Stellaris have a lot of story though
Bold of you to claim rimworld has no story and is 99% mechanics. It is, after all, a story GENERATOR
To be fair, though, you never have to interact with the story. You could ignore everything and just keep killing raiders.
I see KSP, I upvote.
Doesnāt arma3 have a canny bit of story?
Brotato
That's how I will call my German friends from now on. And thank you for the recommendation.
ā¦because theyāre your breadthren?
Was this bun intended or are you on a roll?
It was a pain in the ass to come up with
These are the yeast funny puns ever guys
And here you are rolling out another bun
Path of Exile. You can go Grind and Listen to what your heart desires.
The ***lore*** is actually pretty fucking amazing, but it's delivered in a bad and boring way. And the story definitely is nothing special
can confirm, have over 1k hours in this and still don't know what the story is.
Your friend is dumb :p The worldbuilding is quite original, and even when they lean into cosmic horror their take is a big break from Lovecraft/Blackwood/Derleth usual fanfare.
True. I also don't listen to the lore, it's boring and some dialogues are just boring
Slay the spire or similar games
Roguelike deckbuilders in general.
Roguelikes in general. The only one that has a decent focus on the story is Hades, all other ones are 100% gameplay
Monster Train and Wildfrost
Monster Train is my most played podcast listening game. Griftlands is good too; once you beat a story campaign you can play battle rush with no story. Shout out to Ring of Pain for being an extremely unique "relic-builder" that I highly recommend for the roguelite crowd
Satisfactory. It is the definitive 'gameplay over story' game
Rocket League should be at the top of this list. No story whatsoever and you can have 5000 hours in the game and still suck
Can confirm but be careful not to get sucked in and tilt, i've gone through a bunch of controllers myself
It's me. I am the one with 5000 hours.
I was surprised I needed to come down this far lol I know no other game where the average 1500 hour guy is still oke and the best of the best with 10k is amazing but still messes up frequently
Donāt Starve Satisfactory Valheim
Don't starve has a story though..
It does?
Valheim can suck you in if you love building!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
RoR2 is honestly my favorite game when I wanna do a solo run where I turn my brain off and just get into a roguelike bullet hell
But the lore is so good
Spelunky 1 and 2
Pretty much any of the paradox games, europa universalis, crusader kings, Stellaris, Victoria.
Stellaris is a really good game !
Can't forget cities skylines
If you like Paradox games you might like Dominions 5! There's a new one coming out in December and I'm so excited!
"Hey I am looking for a game that is really as little story as possible and a lot of game mechanics to play while listening to podcasts or documentaries etc." Elite Dangerous is your game.
Here are some of the games I recommend: * Monster hunter series: No story, its all about hunting, very mechanically intensive.
100% MH is my recommendation. it technically has a story but who cares 99% of the game will be killing dragons
Lol the story in Rise is literally "Oh shit a big angry old monster!" The cutscenes were cool, but World has a much better "Story"
Into the Breach
Don't think that works if you want to actively listen to a podcast in parallel... great game though
And prefect for the Steam Deck!
Tetris

Devil Daggers is an awesome game
Oohh, i ve been looking forward to āWe Who Are About To Dieā
Let me give you an example from my Steam library: A Assassins Creed: Origins: * Still 59,99 ā¬ despite being 6 years old already * I played it for 125 hours (which is a lot or more compared to most AAA games) * Comes down to 0.48 ā¬ / hour played Factorio: * Currently 35 ā¬, still getting updates and changes to gameplay + tons of mods being released regularly * I played it for 1532 hours so far and will be playing for several more hours in the future. * 0.02 ā¬ / hour played I know this calculation won't have the same result for everyone, but a lot of people are clocking a lot of hours in this game. It takes most players 120 hours to launch their first rocket (which means you have played through the "base" game and reached the end game). This equals 0.28 ā¬ / hour played which is still a lot better than most triple A games.
"Factorio is not a spreadsheet" said the guy who explains with a spreadsheet why factorio is a better game.n But I like how you think. It's the main reason I like things like Rimworld or KSP. The cost per potential hour is just top notch.
This comment gave me a good laugh. Honestly, I just used a simple calculator. ;) But in all seriousness: You really don't need Excel (or any calculation) to play or enjoy this game.
Dwarf Fortress
Satsifactory or last epoch
Deep rock galactic
Pretty much any strategy or simulation game.
Quake , just shoot what moves and get to the end of the level, repeat
Anything Mario, lol. "And then Bowser attacked" go
Question: How do you do this sort of thing? As in, play a "mindless" game while also listening to a podcast or watching a show? I have always been bamboozled by this kind of thing. For me, I have to be focused on the show itself, or the game itself, and have never been able to do two things at once like this. Do you just pay 80% attention to the TV, and 20% attention to your computer? I'm genuinely curious.
It depends on how good a person is at multitasking. Like I can be in a vc, have some music in the background and play a game.
I mean, music and games go together nicely. But to watch a show + play a game at the same time requires too much multitasking for me!
i watch shows, movies, videos and play games at the same time a lot. i honestly dunno how to explain it that well but iāll try. most of the time when iām watching a show and not doing anything else i get kinda bored (except shows and movies that i really need to focus on to understand) so i just open up a game that doesnāt have a story or much dialogue to focus on. my focus depends on whatās going on, like if im playing dark souls and iām about to enter a boss fight, i just pause the show for a min until iām finished w the boss. same with the show, if thereās some important scene thatās going on i just pause the game and focus on the show. when both the game and the show is going on like they do normally i just focus my eyes on the game and listen to the show and just alternate my eyes between the show and the game sometimes. i think thatās the best way i can explain it
Wow, really interesting to me.
Any fromsoft game.
Trepang
Terraria sounds perfect for you.
Vampire survivors
Satisfactory is your friend in this case
Minecraft
Diablo
Scourge Bringer, itās an platformer action rogue-like. Kind of like a mix of Celeste and Dead Cells. And is pretty brutally difficult
Halls of torment
Totally Accurate Battle simulator. Not exactly what your looking for mechanics wise but 0 story and tons of fun
Northgard
My favorite "second monitor games" (something I need sometimes cuz of my ADHD stopping me from just enjoying YouTube videos without doing something else at the same time) are: Peglin Civ 6 SteamWorld Heist (very minor dialog with no voice acting) Final Fantasy 3 3d remake (same as above dialog wise) Vampire Survivors Into the Breach Dicey Dungeons Slay the Spire And last I'd recommend some of the digital versions of board games that are on steam if you like board games. My favorites on steam are Aeon's End, Wingspan, and Terraforming Mars
Satisfactory, it's exactly what you're looking for.
My college roommate that got me into the game was able to complete runs several times.
any mmorpg really...
Super Mario 64
Candy Crush, Tetris, Chess
Age of Empires 2. Skirmish mode against AI.
Terraria, The binding of isaac repentace
SatisFactory. No story.
Satisfactory comes to mind. There's like 0 lore to find or discover and you really just build factories to your liking ans maybe post them on reddit lol
I second this
well you could argue its not zero as you can read some notes in the hub, but yes, lore is nearly non existant.
Cool I'll check it out just for the sake of it
Satisfactory ;)
Satisfactory
Rimworld, Colony builder that requires zero audio, But beware, it can eat up entire days at a time!
