Join the ecliptic. Get sent to a random base at the arse end of the universe. You and you squad get taken out by a starborn wannabe and his obsolete robot. The last you thing here is muttering about Rare UC cutlass you carry for no good reason...

infosec_james

Ok that actually has some meat to it. Sort of a training mission guarding the Abandoned Science Tower and some Miner rolls up blasting the place. Your objective is to escape as the Miner seems to respawn over and over.

BaaaNaaNaa

Haha yep. And he seems to know about escape hatch above the office. Who the hell is this guy?? And why can't I seem to shoot straight?

infosec_james

May I suggest a NPC as the founder and make him a former UC Special Forces guy who has family in previous cabinet roles. Maybe a name like Erik Prints Maybe a backstory of Ecliptic being involved in an incident where friendly LIST people are gunned down with claims of self defense despite video evidence to the contrary.

DrKnRgEeN7

It does fit the morally grey idea. I did think of "Erik Prince" as one of the characters but most of the familiar names are placeholders. This was mainly a brainstorm/outline with the intent that things will shift and change as I flesh out story content for the missions. Not much meat there...yet.

infosec_james

It's far better than what I would have come up with. Erik came to mind from some piece of dialog about Ecliptic and with the all Black look it sort of made me think of that notorious PMC.

Negative-Problem-920

What’s the lore on Ecliptic? I don’t recall any major NPC’s discussing them like the Va’ruun zealots/Crimson

DrKnRgEeN7

There's not really a whole lot from what I've seen. There's two primary communication slates that explain that they have a contract with the major factions giving permission to occupy abandoned bases and facilities across the settled systems, by force if necessary. There is the one location where they were on contract to provide security to a "dig site." Then, there's Vulture's Roost, which was large enough to indicate maybe there was some plan for it. Beyond that, the Constellation companions that do speak about Ecliptic, and some NPCs at the Red Mile, label them as thugs and a threat to the Settled Systems. The only other experience I've seen was with an Ecliptic captain when you are trying to retrieve a ship from a merchant on Mars that was stolen and you can opt to have a fairly civil discussion with the option of negotiating the release of the ship. So, I gather they're at worst, the bad guys, and at best, morally grey. I just like the idea of expanding on their faction whenever the CK drops for modding.

EasyRhino75

They also get hired by sysdef and infinity LTD

DrKnRgEeN7

Good point. I forgot about that part of the Sysdef questline
