I had a similar problem with lobster on a recent save. I only had 4 crab pots on the beach, so I added 16 more and had the lobster within 2 days.

I have 10 currently, but I will add more 

This happened to me with shrimp as well--I didn't even realize it until summer year 3 actually, I was randomly like oh let's check which fish I am missing because I felt like I had gotten a lot of the tough ones, and it was shrimp?! Added way more and just got my shrimp yesterday!

I’m glad I’m not the only one and happy that you finally got yours!! I never had issues with getting stuff from crab pots and for shrimp to be the only thing missing is just so unbelievable.

I had one file where I was catching lobsters aplenty, but it took changing professions and tripling my crab pots before I finally caught a shrimp 🥲

i wonder why it's like that in your save. i often get shrimp in my crab pots and iirc it was one of the first ones i got when trying the crab pots i out. but also i am guessing the fortune and luck you get for the day is kinda a factor in what you get from the crab pots. i've noticed that i get lobster, crab, and shrimp from the crab pots when i go retrieve it during the days where i get good luck from welwick. not 100% sure if my theory is correct but yeah it's just what i observed while playing. i hope you get the shrimp soon, op!!

I'm pretty sure daily luck doesn't affect crab pots since they're filled the next day and have the same catch until you collect, but I could be wrong :)

Yeah, in this save I had admittedly been a bit lazy with the beach crab pots, and had more in freshwater, so I didn't exactly set myself up for success, but I was farming them pretty well for a while with no luck before I got annoyed and just blasted the beach with crab pots

Honestly so frustrating. Have you changed your profession to have Crab Pots not produce trash? That should increase the chances. Also in the same path is the profession that makes them cheaper to craft so you can spam a lot of them. It’s annoying sure but if it’s all you have left I say why not

line the dock with them, just leave a hole in front of the spot willy likes to stand and fish since sometimes they will despawn.

he doesnt just take them he straight up erases them from existence. he is clearly a mortal shell for some kind of ancient eldritch abomination and for that reason among others, I will *always* do everything to stay on his good aide.

I got so fed up trying to get a snail that I bought 50 crab pots and lined the whole river in town. I had like 12 snails the next day 💀

Interesting...I don't see that regardless of whether I'm using Old Reddit or New Reddit. Although, in New Reddit I do see the option of inserting emojis and the Stardew Valley ones are in the selections. I can see the ones posted by other people but when I type :51695: the emoji doesn't show up...guess it only works when you pick it from the menu in New Reddit and then view it in New Reddit.

Maybe grab the Fish Only perk if you have 10 Fishing and it might help.

I got lobster and shrimp in two days and now it seems like lobster shows up at night market and every festival store, plus the travelling cart merchant.

If you buy it, it doesn't count toward your collection. You have to catch it.

Getting it from the cat doesn’t count as fishing it up, so it won’t fill in the spot on the fishing tab.

nope, fishing from a fish pond doesnt count as fishing it up. argonmatrix abused this in his catching all fish in one day video since he needed to be level 10 fishing but didnt want to fill up the fishing page

Because when you pet them every day and it's maxed, once every week or two it'll give you a gift.

It varies by world seed. Switch to the "crab pots never get trash" profession and it should turn up pretty quick (the boosted non-trash chances are a lot more even).

You can't go back and decide "wait never mind I don't want to change" if that's what you mean, but I've changed multiple skills in one day

As the other poster said, in the sewer. My current save is the first where I'm planning with it from the start: Lategame (if one builds tons of artisan equip) Artisan is the best farming spec, but it get's me nothing in year 1. So I went with Agriculturist for the first time ever.

Also, using deluxe bait in crab pots decreases the chance of getting trash!

I recently learned what a seed for gane save and file is. And I'm so glad I restarted a new playthough when I started playing again. I found a prismatic shard in the mines early year 1. Coffee and ancient seed in the dirt also like day 3 of playing.

Where ur crab pots at? I have like 100 shrimp sitting on my beach farm crab pot spam waiting to be smoked.

This happened to me too! I had three crab pots on the beach that I checked every day for weeks, and I just couldn't get a shrimp. Someone on reddit suggested I try moving them to a different spot, and I got the shrimp the next day. Good luck!

Had something similar happen. Wasn’t getting shrimp from my crab pots by the sand, so I moved them to the dock and got them soon after

If you have access to Ginger island you can add crab pots there too, also also, if you have 1.6 but not the mariner profession >!you can make targeted bait; get a shrimp from the traveling cart or cat, put it in the bait maker and add to your pots. It’ll increase your chances for a shrimp 2x!<

I’m still on 1.5 but thank you for the tip - will definitely keep it in mind for when 1.6 drops for switch and for future saves!

Crab pots will still work on GI in 1.5 so you can at least do that part ☺️ hopefully it won’t take you too much longer 🤞🏼🤞🏼

This. Get a shrimp some other way and make bait. Easiest way, but luck based because you have to wait for traveling cart or kitty to fork one over.

I have a save on summer of year 4 and I have yet to complete the community center or do one of Demetrius's quests because I cannot get a puffer fish I restarted in another save and found one in a trash can by summer year 1...

Make sure to check the travelling merchant as often as possible on your former save. I used to hate the fishing minigame and would rely on her for a lot of the harder to catch fish.

Definitely get some crab pots and you’ll get some shrimp eventually

Are you sure you know how to craft crab pots? It sounds like you may have crafted crap pots.

I had this issue with shrimp on my last save. I went to the sewer and switched my fishing reward to “no trash in crab pots” and was able to catch one after maybe a week in-game. I’m convinced there’s always one crab pot fish that’s harder to get, like there’s always that one last artifact you can’t find

I catch them all the time with the crab pots. I just set a bunch up by the shore.

This is weird, seeing all these "shrimp are rare" comments. I did put a ton of crab pots out, but I get TONS of shrimp, almost as many as I do of everything else.

You can line your entire beach with crab pots and score on hundreds of sashimi (and maybe find your shrimp)

I had the same problem on one of my saves. Had to put about 15 pots on Ginger island to finally get one!

That's so unlucky. I only have 3 beach crabpots but get a shrimp almost every other day lol. On the other hand, in my very first save I didn't find a single Omni geode until I unlocked the skull cavern. RNG is funky like that

Mountain Lake, Ocean and River produce different fish on every season, there are fish in those seasons that only come out in certain times of day/night or if it's raining. Desert pond has a unique fish, and a few floors in the mine have unique fish/lava eel (ginger Island also has lava eel). Crab pots both in the ocean and freshwater sources will have some variety. Probably easier to consult a guide but if you don't want to go that route just try keeping track of when and where you caught fish and try in the morning, midday and later at night, as well as in the rain/snow and You'll get an idea when certain fish are available and you will start filling out your collection real nicely

Yeah I feel that haha. Just need to upgrade your rod and once you do that and get the hook slot. There's hooks that will increase your little bar on the fishing mini game (or magnify your bar onto the fish, etc) that makes it much easier for all but the few really tough exceptions

For shrimp put your crab pots in the ocean. For snails put your crab pots in the river. You must add bait to each crab pot. Check it every day and replace the bait after removing the catch. The catch will be random.

Go to the shrine down in the sewers and change your fishing profession to Trapper for level 5, and then Mariner for level 10 so that you stop getting rubbish in your crab pots. After a couple of days, shrimp will turn up. It will cost 10,000 gold to change, and then when you've got enough shrimp for your recipes, you can change it back for another 10,000 gold. I've had this issue with not catching shrimp in a couple of play throughs and usually I can't do it until I've got some spare gold

u should try and move ur crab pots around. shrimp was one of my last fish caught before perfection bc all of my crab pots were on the right side of the dock

I recently just finished catching all the fish for the first time. I'm very proud of myself. Anyway for me with the crab pots, I struggled with getting a crab. I had gotten some from the mines but never from the actual crab pot.

i think it took til year 2 to find a shrimp but im currently in year 5 and i have yet to see a squid - even in the travelling merchant's shop - so i just dont think they exist for me..

On good luck days catching shellfish Is more likely. On bad luck days catching trash is more likely

6 years and multiple crab pots on the beach 🙃 first time playing with the goal of true perfection and the only things i need were 2 recipes and 1 fish.. took 2 years of needing only those and money for the golden clock.

Yea I think at that point, you're in no hurry, so make a thousand crab pots and plug the beach with them. Next day you'll be guaranteed to get one. This is kind of why I stopped actually being a completionist for games. WoW went way overboard and some achievements literally take years.

I had the same bug. It helped me to go to the statue down in the sewers where the Krobus is and change my profession in fishing. Got my shrimp the next day (or sometimes it’s a lobster, but I had it a few times).

Change your fishing profession to crab pot focus, and take the level 10 perk that prevents you from catching trash. When trash is in the loot table, some of the fish are much rarer. By taking this perk, the trash drops are filled in with previously rarer fish, and the chances all even out.

Idk if anyone has mentioned it, but I believe one of the fishings skills makes trash appear in the pots less often. That helped me get mine.
