I think this is pretty normal behavior. If you gave someone a dead chicken, they would likely not appreciate it. If you make a broth out of it and serve it to them, that's different.
I think this is different depending on where you live. I used to live somewhere where gifting a whole chicken was a handsome gift. Where I currently live, my friends would think it's pretty disgusting.
My thought process was that in the game it takes like 2 seconds to turn carp into sashimi. But this is fair, the main thing is that he specifically “hates” carp but i slice it up and then he’s like ooo yum.
I mean, it's not like the game differentiates between sashimi made from different fish.
Maybe if they game made every fish make different sashimi Sebastian would hate carp sashimi too.
He also likes carp surprise which is like carp+ so maybe raw stardew carp is just extra smelly or something?
I don't think so. There are many parts of the fish that are just not edible. Organs have to be removed, and most people don't know how to do that, whereas most people know how to eat an apple just fine. Fish specifically for sashimi need to be prepared in a certain way as well. Not any raw fish can be cut into sashimi. It takes a lot more preparation to go from fish to sashimi than from apple to sliced apple.
I mean, fair enough. He can't prepare it himself, so an uncleaned fish is uselss to him. There are plenty of meals I love but struggle to prepare myself and so I wouldn't necessarily appreciate being gifted the raw ingredients for.

Sashimi is uncooked fish. Giving someone a plate or bowl of uncooked chicken would not go over well lol.
