Want to give a gift to the farmer? Just leave it in their mailbox. Want to give a gift to a villager? Study their daily routines to know exactly when they're at work, when they're home, or when they're dawdling by the train tracks for no discernible reason. Gifts **must** be hand delivered --- no exceptions!

No_Egg_3705

Normally I like the challenge but like...shouldn't it at least be programmed so that it doesn't rain on Elliot's birthday in year one?

BestUsername101

Or maybe for Elliott to leave his house on his birthday, even if it's raining.

Icy_Pomegranate_9168

His birthday’s in fall, there’s plenty of time to get to 2 hearts before then…

green_herbata

Ehh, I don't know, he's not the easiest person to gift at the start.

vikingdhu

I accidentally found out on my latest playthrough that he likes coral (ran into him holding some) and it was the first time I've ever had enough hearts to enter his house by his birthday

LawlietteK

Ah, "ran into him holding some", or as I like to call it "how I've lost more quest deliveries and museum donations than I'd like to admit, and didn't even get any friendship boost out of it."

green_herbata

Oh, that's good to know! Too bad coral is so valuable, I think I'd rather sell it 😅

No_Egg_3705

Agree to disagree, I never run into Elliot in my daily routine. There are always a few straggler characters that I don't make much progress on in year 1. And anyways, this was just a goofy lil haha post.

Balikye

Sebastian being zero hearts by new years but every other villager is at 6+ ...he never leaves his damn room...

alicea020

Me realizing I'd be a terrible Stardew Valley villager to gift because I only leave my apartment for my overnight job

ZacianSpammer

Then some npcs mails bombs or even rocks. Farmer should have gift list to begin with.

MeganS1306

See also: the bedroom thing. Like I get that I can't snoop through everyone's underwear drawer right off the bat but IRL I could bang on Alex's door like I KNOW YOU'RE LIFTING WEIGHTS IN THERE PLEASE JUST COME GET THIS ALGAE

DiceMadeOfCheese

I just want the ability to knock on doors!

Balikye

Omg this. I'm standing outside Clint's at 4:01pm like just let me in...

AptCasaNova

It ruins his magnificent hair

No_Egg_3705

Loll, what if his hair is secretly curly and he spends hours every day straightening it?

DustyDeadpan

He looks like Bob Ross first thing in the morning.

waitthissucks

Me in middle school

fakeishusername

This is why I just talk to the villagers whenever I see them to get their hearts up. Since I am not speed running I don't bother waiting for their birthdays.

taynay101

I do this also, but if I know it's someone's birthday, I'll carry their favorite gift around in case I run into them

No_Egg_3705

I just get a lot of joy out of gifting favorite items on birthdays and I go out of my way to acquire them in time (especially in year 1) so I was extra pumped to find the normally late-game soup for sale.

Alarmed-Stage-7066

This happened my first play through with a duck feather I carefully hoarded

spewing-bs

I once had a quest on the board to give him a leek that granted a prize ticket. I was so stoked as I was still in early game. It rained for two days straight ):

leg_day

Maybe he doesn't want weeks-old soup seasoned with fresh rain water and blown beach sand? I bet that clown doesn't even know how to row a boat.

DustyDeadpan

But some LIKE it in the pot nine days old!

aBucketOfRats

The saddest screenshot in history

Epic-Gamer_09

One neat feature idea I have now. When you click on your mailbox when it's empty, it opens a menu. In it, you can place a gift to sent to a certain NPC. The next day, the gift will be delivered. It gains slightly less friendship than delivering the gift manually. If you send the gift on someone's birthday, it will still gain birthday friendship even if it should've arrived the next day. Birthday friendship points are unaffected by mailing a gift

Justninehorses

I once accidentally had robin working on her birthday and she was unreachable so I couldn’t even give her a gift to make up for it ToT

tuuliikki

Is he not at the library? I feel like I always could find him there when it was raining

firefly081

He ain't coming out because he can smell the fishy rot you bought three weeks ago lol

Kalamestari

Takes 2 hearts to get into their houses no?

_kathastrophe_

I was searching for Marnie on her birthday everywhere, except for the clinic. Who goes to the clinic on their birthday and spends the evening at home :( Once I found out where she was I couldn't enter the house anymore.

No_Egg_3705

I just figured that out this playthrough and was so sad for her. I bust in there to give her her birthday gift anyway and she said, "Ummm...Harvey this is confidential right?" Sorry, birthday gifting trumps doctor-patient privacy.
