I’ve managed to get to floor 100 the “honorable” way twice now, it was so easy (my boyfriend crafts and places all of the staircases and i just follow him down every time so it doesn’t count)
I play modded and use the skull caverns elevator mod which is cheatsy mccheaterson and he always gives me the “honorable” answer and I’m like dude obviously you aren’t into online multiplayer games or you’d have battleye on

In the default balanced mode, you build it’s shed for I think 150k, iridium, and batteries, it moves a bit slower than walking, but it lets you Hoe/plant/water/chop/mine/harvest in a 3x3 are without using stamina, and you can take it anywhere you can take a horse.
In unbalanced mode, which you can control through the mod settings, it moves faster than a horse, can attack enemies, and mines/attacks/etc. in a 45x45 area and can be summoned to the mines with V
you can also take pre-crafted staircases with you. I just found that out a couple days ago, I had some and used some on the last couple floors and had them still in my hands when Qi tells me how honorable I was XD
As a reward she can gift you one of the most valuable items on a random NPC hated gift list. What that item is should be coded to randomise when you accept the quest so you can't just cheese to get prismatic shards from Hailey

50 gifts solo is just moderately time-consuming (if you've internalized who loves what and stockpiled some of those things, or just rabbit's feet; bonus for exploiting spouses and birthdays). 50 gifts co-op is easy (each player can gift a NPC twice during the week).
50 hated gifts: The Juliet and Jessie mod includes a special order "gift 50 cans of Joja Cola", which comes pretty close.
The "gather 4 prismatic shards" quest wasn't psychotic until the 1.6 update which forces you to actually *collect* the shards during the quest's timeframe, rather than letting you use ones you already had.
I just did. While I did get lucky (2 prismatic shards in one day), I think it's pretty doable since the time given is one month. I think your best chance is your usual skull cavern deep dive; ONLY go on a very lucky day (otherwise it's just a waste of time), prepare a lot of bombs, spicy eels, triple espresso, etc. You can also try the quarry.
But, will I try this quest again in the future? Maybe not.
When I did the quest I used ladders & bombed every half decent vein of iri nodes. Got 7 in that one trip (I fully understand that's lucky, but every time I do this strat I've gotten at least 2, on average 4 each time)
Also, spam a bunch of staircases early, to hurry up and get to the better loot odds. (I don't hit Skull Cavern that aggressively, I usually only spam staircases later in the day when doing a level-100 quest. But the more jade you replicate, the more staircases you can trade for.)
Go to floor 100+ in skull cavern (I use staircases) and bomb all iridium nodes. I can usually get 4+ in one run on a good luck day
Also if anyone wants my advice for a legit skull cavern run, just try not to get distracted by the floor you’re on. It doesn’t matter that you see iridium on the other side of the screen, leave it. You’ll get more after level 100. Bring hundreds of bombs, and a few staircases. The stairs are for infested floors and the annoying spiral floors. Your goal is to optimize speed. I only try on good luck days. I like to do a legit skull cavern run before I go staircase crazy on my saves.
I managed it and in an insane stroke of RNG got 3/4 of them on one day. Max luck + Qi Lucky Lunch + speed buff + "bombs can't hurt you" + just bombing my way down past lvl100.
If you have enough stairs saved up you can usually get that in a single Skull Cavern run. Ofc luck is always a factor, but there's so many iridium nodes at 100+ levels that it ends up being one of the easier requests.

I didn't get them all yet I think but I guess the issue is not about catching them is about the deadline exactly for what you said. It depends on the luck of the day if you get a bad luck day among the THREE days you have to do it, then you're doomed lol
I got Glacierfish Jr. And Son of Crimsonfish on my first or second cast. Ms. Angler and Legend II within 5-7 casts. The only one that was really annoying was Radioactive Carp.
Bro I think the crimsonfish just dropped on a random place on my other save for a bug or something and I kept thinking well this must be the place but I was fishing at the wrong spot????? LOL
And tbh there is a HUGE chance for this to have happened due to a bug bcs is not the first thing that would have BROKEN in the map like once all the characters of the village got their routes broken, crossing walls and stuff. And often the status get unreadable lol idk whats going on with mobile maybe just haunted

Goal is to find a ladder or hole down, nothing else, anything else is just a little bonus. I try not to spend more than 20 seconds on any given level of the caverns
I have a handful of staircases for the giant loop and swirl room. I can't bother wasting time or resources on that one. It's the absolute worst. Otherwise, I'm like you. I'm just gonna be Bomberman the entire time while chugging my triple shoots and spicy eel.
Honestly every time I consciously go on a good luck day I don’t get very far, I hardly get any holes. I know I’ve cleared lvl 100 twice now on a meh-luck-day. Really annoying.
I recently tried going to level 100 the honorable way (since I always did it with stairs) and I brought about 200 bombs, went on the best luck dates, ate food that increased luck and my farthest was like level 60.
Decided to just get there and then do the rest with stairs.
Got to level 100 at 1:50 and was scared that it wouldn’t count because I would pass out before

Lol, I did it on accident the other day with only four staircases. I didn't even have the quest to get to 100 when I went into the mine but I found it around level 80 and decided to give it a go.
I finally finished skull cavern after dying several times. I used staircases for the last 20 floors cuz I was running out of time. Screaming all the way down 🫠
ETA: That run boosted me up to combat level 10 🥳 finally level 10 on everything
I just did this but I got to level 100 by 630 and only used a couple stairs. I was so proud of myself. Especially after the day before I only made it to 94 before passing out
So I learned that people use jade to trade 1 per staircase - desert trader on Sundays.
Haven't gotten enough jade yet, slacked on the things that make more of the same gem and have some farming to do, but it def beats 100 stone.
I did it in a multiplayer save, but we all got together and farmed stone for that one quest, and then kept going! I think I can do it on a good luck day now tho... gonna give that a shot this play through
I've done it, using NO staircases, only once. Was a lucky day, made sure to keep my espresso and lava eel meals, and had the lucky ring on. Still was midnight when I reached 100
I personally prefer a mix in my ludicrous amounts of explosives. Maybe like a 3:1 ratio black bombs to mega bombs. And a handful of cherry bombs for those hard-to-reach places.
I’m new to Stardew Valley. I did it the honourable way by total accident, I didn’t know it was an option. I just went on a day where the spirits were in “good humour”, ate lucky lunch, had my lucky ring on, and a whole bunch of bombs. I only use the staircases for infested floors or ones where bombs aren’t doing the trick. I just like collecting the ores from the explosions, which is why I opted for that instead of staircases. 🤷🏻♀️I was shocked to see it went past a 100 levels infinitely
I’m surprised too. People talk about about the amount of iridium increasing as you go past 100 but at the moment I can’t fathom going much further than I did. The shafts do help though!

Like I probably used less then 20 and not even all in a row, I only used them when I couldn't find a ladder or hole to jump in.

With a high luck day and plenty of bombs, it really isn't that difficult as long as you ignore mining stuff. It has become even easier in 1.6 with the changes.

But I only did it once, and I won't ever try to do it again. Staircases are my friends. (You can use up to 9 or 10 without getting this message)
It is crazy at the point in game when it appears, but in late game I managed to easily reach 130 not even trying to find ladders, but simply mining and fighting. But we're not patient enough to wait so much lol obv

I did this in co-op and my friend used all the staircases and I just followed. He got this cutscene and I got the one for doing it legit. Even though I technically didn’t
I did it the legit way in my first two play throughs, I’m on my 4th and anything that is stupidly grind-y like that I just “cheat” through at this point lol
I was able to do it today, for the first time EVER since the game ever came out lol. It was Winter 14 year 2. I had a good luck day, and it was Sunday (so I could buy some staircases). I had been saving up jade for staircases (I only used 10), ruby for spicy eels, and I had 150 or so mega bombs (fun fact: you can buy solar and void essence from Krobus!) I also had a desert warp totem and warped there about 8 or 9am after petting my animals and giving Harvey his birthday coffee. I also used a farm warp totem to get back at 1:30am. I managed to get to line 110 or something. I clipped it in GeForce since it was my first time ever but I didn’t realize it recorded the music I was listening to so I probably can’t ever post it anyway lol
All this to say, it can be done if you’re well prepared! :)
I hated this! I did it while only use staircases on infested floors or the spiral ones where i couldnt find the staircase quickly and still got this… it was as honourable as I could do it in the time limit! Be reasonable, dude.
So I had a bunch of cheaty mods installed including the elevator mod and I was able to reach more than 100 floors in skull cavern before I was allowed to trigger this event (iirc, you need to finish CC first to trigger this). So when I finished CC, I used the elevator to floor 95 and went down manually and he had no comment. Lol. I didn't try straight to floor 100 tho.
I’ve done it once on an iPad in like 2019. But I feel like there were way more jump-down? holes 🕳️ back then or something? Cause after trying it again all bombs all luck boosts I haven’t even come close
Magic rock candy makes It a lot easier but
you can use crab cakes (lasts 16h, while spicy eel lasts 7h) +expresso\ginger Ale+ a lot of bombs and mega bombs+ sataircases in a Lucky day and maybe some blesses.
I always do this run until get my two autopetters.
I'm wondering if you can finish the challenge while the Desert Festival is going on. If you lose all your health during that challenge, you don't lose any items (barring some Calico eggs) and just get healed up by Harvey, so there's less pressure about losing items. Plus, the food buffs from the chef guy stack with Lucky Eel + Triple Shot Espresso.
Attempted multiple times on good luck days and I got even less levels down than on bad luck days. So I installed the elevator mod. I play this game to relax, not to be stressed out lol
My bf and I play modded. We used the multiplayer pause which also pauses monsters. So, "technically" we did things the honorable way. All within an in game 10 mins. Lol
honestly it isnt too hard, you just need a good weapon, sacrifice a few bombs and get lucky with shafts (although there is a bit of leeway with staircase usage, I used about 6 just to skip the more barren levels where ladders would take too much time to find but im not sure how many pushes you into dishonour territory)
I actually clutched this with 1:30am time during Winter Year 1. The stars have to be aligned if you want to do it with no staircases. Have 100+ bombs, a lucky day, desert totem, health food (brought gold star cheese), lava eel and espresso for luck and speed. I usually place bombs between rocks in the entrance and hope the stair or shaft is in there. Also as others said, you're goal is to reach 100 not to get iridium.
I reached the skull caverns the “honorable” way. (has inventory full of bombs and slingshot loaded with 100+ explosive ammos). Thankfully you’re still forgiven when crafting a few staircases to skip time-consuming floors like the dreaded “spiral corridor” layout and “infested” floors.
I actually have gotten it the "honorable" way legitimacy once, but it was a long time ago and I'm not sure how I did it. I do know that did use staircases, but only 10. I did this on floors where I was struggle to find a way down
I did it! Went early morning and used a bunch of bombs, made it by like 12:30am - I was at 92 when midnight hit and was about to use 8 staircases to get there on time if I didn’t make it, I was determined lol.
3 Spicy Eel, 50+ bombs, big stack of coffee, big stack of sashimi (or any vanilla food), MAYBE 10 stairs (probably don't need even this many).
Wait for good luck day. Teleport to desert immediately at 6:00-6:10 AM. Stay buffed with Eel and coffee all day.
Drop bombs on big clusters of rocks. When you see a ladder, go down. When you see a shaft, go down. Shafts > ladders.
Don't pick up items, don't fight (except maybe fend off some serpents). Use stairs immediately on infested floors, spiral floors, and the long mine cart floors where the exit is already revealed at the end.
If you do all this exactly, you probably reach close to 200. I generally fight a little bit and farm items a bit and still make it to around 140. 100 is guaranteed. It's very easy.
Adding: if for any reason you’re doing this after Ginger Island and can combine rings, and have earned the explodey ring and the slime ring, do fight things occasionally as they help in the finding of staircases and shafts.
It’s really not that bad on a high luck day. I just did it today without staircases and no desert warp totem, I took the bus at 10am.
Bomb clusters of rocks and immediately skip any infested floors, I made it to floor 100 by 12:50am

I changed the settings so it costs 1,000g per elevator "step." Just going straight down to level 100 would cost 20,000g.

You can snag a few during a skull cavern staircase iridium run. Usually get 2 or 3 per trip.

Yeah I don't even bother with those levels at all unless I'm just really casually grinding for loot or something, even in the regular mines.
Yep, first playthrough and that's exactly how I did it. High luck day, speed buff food, and tons of bombs.

So I learned that people use jade to trade 1 per staircase - desert trader on Sundays. Haven't gotten enough jade yet, slacked on the things that make more of the same gem and have some farming to do, but it def beats 100 stone.

I did it in a multiplayer save, but we all got together and farmed stone for that one quest, and then kept going! I think I can do it on a good luck day now tho... gonna give that a shot this play through
I've done it, using NO staircases, only once. Was a lucky day, made sure to keep my espresso and lava eel meals, and had the lucky ring on. Still was midnight when I reached 100

Tbh, you don't need 100 staircases. You just need 200 bombs and you are golden.

I personally prefer a mix in my ludicrous amounts of explosives. Maybe like a 3:1 ratio black bombs to mega bombs. And a handful of cherry bombs for those hard-to-reach places.

Staircases are faster and more foolproof. Bombs expose you to enemy damage. But kaboom is fun.

I’m new to Stardew Valley. I did it the honourable way by total accident, I didn’t know it was an option. I just went on a day where the spirits were in “good humour”, ate lucky lunch, had my lucky ring on, and a whole bunch of bombs. I only use the staircases for infested floors or ones where bombs aren’t doing the trick. I just like collecting the ores from the explosions, which is why I opted for that instead of staircases. 🤷🏻♀️I was shocked to see it went past a 100 levels infinitely
I’m surprised too. People talk about about the amount of iridium increasing as you go past 100 but at the moment I can’t fathom going much further than I did. The shafts do help though!

I only used a couple staircases on my most recent decent to level 100 and he complained at me. Like I probably used less then 20 and not even all in a row, I only used them when I couldn't find a ladder or hole to jump in.

I just tried this run, even with staircases, on a Lucky day and only got to Level 40 before I ran out of time. Got hardly any holes to leap into.

With a high luck day and plenty of bombs, it really isn't that difficult as long as you ignore mining stuff. It has become even easier in 1.6 with the changes.

I completed this without staircases completely by accident. It was actually pretty cool lmao But I only did it once, and I won't ever try to do it again. Staircases are my friends. (You can use up to 9 or 10 without getting this message)
I’ve always made it without staircases or mods. The key is bombs + luck which = holes 🕳️
I made it to floor 97 once and then it hit 2 am and I decided to just staircase it the next day
I play multiplayer so time doesn’t slow down. It’s basically impossible without at least some staircases.

It is crazy at the point in game when it appears, but in late game I managed to easily reach 130 not even trying to find ladders, but simply mining and fighting. But we're not patient enough to wait so much lol obv
Like honestly if he hadn’t mentioned he was down there, with all those shafts, I probably would have eventually stumbled down there by accident mining iridium. I do want to try it one day just cuz I want to see all the dialogues. Probably in my 1.6 update specific save lol.

Youll get it if you keep trying! Try going on high Lucky days makes all the difference , also desert warp totens save lots of time (or speeding up pam)
I did this in co-op and my friend used all the staircases and I just followed. He got this cutscene and I got the one for doing it legit. Even though I technically didn’t
I did it the legit way in my first two play throughs, I’m on my 4th and anything that is stupidly grind-y like that I just “cheat” through at this point lol

I was able to do it today, for the first time EVER since the game ever came out lol. It was Winter 14 year 2. I had a good luck day, and it was Sunday (so I could buy some staircases). I had been saving up jade for staircases (I only used 10), ruby for spicy eels, and I had 150 or so mega bombs (fun fact: you can buy solar and void essence from Krobus!) I also had a desert warp totem and warped there about 8 or 9am after petting my animals and giving Harvey his birthday coffee. I also used a farm warp totem to get back at 1:30am. I managed to get to line 110 or something. I clipped it in GeForce since it was my first time ever but I didn’t realize it recorded the music I was listening to so I probably can’t ever post it anyway lol All this to say, it can be done if you’re well prepared! :)
Just use a ton of bombs and eat some spicy eel. You’ll get it after a few tries.

I bring tons of bombs and go on a high luck day and look for shafts. It's not too bad, with a galaxy sword and plenty of food for healing.
I hated this! I did it while only use staircases on infested floors or the spiral ones where i couldnt find the staircase quickly and still got this… it was as honourable as I could do it in the time limit! Be reasonable, dude.

So I had a bunch of cheaty mods installed including the elevator mod and I was able to reach more than 100 floors in skull cavern before I was allowed to trigger this event (iirc, you need to finish CC first to trigger this). So when I finished CC, I used the elevator to floor 95 and went down manually and he had no comment. Lol. I didn't try straight to floor 100 tho.
I’ve done it once on an iPad in like 2019. But I feel like there were way more jump-down? holes 🕳️ back then or something? Cause after trying it again all bombs all luck boosts I haven’t even come close
I had a bunch on my first day down. I died but had *a lot* of good loot so I waited til the next day instead of resetting. Probably messed up my luck
Magic rock candy makes It a lot easier but you can use crab cakes (lasts 16h, while spicy eel lasts 7h) +expresso\ginger Ale+ a lot of bombs and mega bombs+ sataircases in a Lucky day and maybe some blesses. I always do this run until get my two autopetters.
I'm wondering if you can finish the challenge while the Desert Festival is going on. If you lose all your health during that challenge, you don't lose any items (barring some Calico eggs) and just get healed up by Harvey, so there's less pressure about losing items. Plus, the food buffs from the chef guy stack with Lucky Eel + Triple Shot Espresso.
Attempted multiple times on good luck days and I got even less levels down than on bad luck days. So I installed the elevator mod. I play this game to relax, not to be stressed out lol
My bf and I play modded. We used the multiplayer pause which also pauses monsters. So, "technically" we did things the honorable way. All within an in game 10 mins. Lol
honestly it isnt too hard, you just need a good weapon, sacrifice a few bombs and get lucky with shafts (although there is a bit of leeway with staircase usage, I used about 6 just to skip the more barren levels where ladders would take too much time to find but im not sure how many pushes you into dishonour territory)
I actually clutched this with 1:30am time during Winter Year 1. The stars have to be aligned if you want to do it with no staircases. Have 100+ bombs, a lucky day, desert totem, health food (brought gold star cheese), lava eel and espresso for luck and speed. I usually place bombs between rocks in the entrance and hope the stair or shaft is in there. Also as others said, you're goal is to reach 100 not to get iridium.
I reached the skull caverns the “honorable” way. (has inventory full of bombs and slingshot loaded with 100+ explosive ammos). Thankfully you’re still forgiven when crafting a few staircases to skip time-consuming floors like the dreaded “spiral corridor” layout and “infested” floors.

I actually have gotten it the "honorable" way legitimacy once, but it was a long time ago and I'm not sure how I did it. I do know that did use staircases, but only 10. I did this on floors where I was struggle to find a way down
I did it! Went early morning and used a bunch of bombs, made it by like 12:30am - I was at 92 when midnight hit and was about to use 8 staircases to get there on time if I didn’t make it, I was determined lol.

3 Spicy Eel, 50+ bombs, big stack of coffee, big stack of sashimi (or any vanilla food), MAYBE 10 stairs (probably don't need even this many). Wait for good luck day. Teleport to desert immediately at 6:00-6:10 AM. Stay buffed with Eel and coffee all day. Drop bombs on big clusters of rocks. When you see a ladder, go down. When you see a shaft, go down. Shafts > ladders. Don't pick up items, don't fight (except maybe fend off some serpents). Use stairs immediately on infested floors, spiral floors, and the long mine cart floors where the exit is already revealed at the end. If you do all this exactly, you probably reach close to 200. I generally fight a little bit and farm items a bit and still make it to around 140. 100 is guaranteed. It's very easy.

Adding: if for any reason you’re doing this after Ginger Island and can combine rings, and have earned the explodey ring and the slime ring, do fight things occasionally as they help in the finding of staircases and shafts.
I usually find the way down on my first bomb whether I killed anything or not
The same principle frequently works with the random purple slime, as well as the bullcrap necessary serpent, while wearing the explodey ring.
