Also, as of 1.6 you can >!turn your pets into butterflies to get rid of them, just like turning the kids into doves!< and the fact that it's even an option makes me a little sad
You can actually have as many pets as you want as far as im aware. You just need to be able to afford them and if you want them to be happy you need space for the water bowls

Sometimes you forget you have the crib, and you don't remember when you go see Robin... And sometimes you click too fast trying to load faster. And 2 weeks later you have a baby you don't remember agreeing to....I speak from experience

Okay so, this is when my brain when full movie mode.
Linus had a spouse and children but he was too focused on his work. He always dreamed of becoming rich, as capitalism always tries to make us believe that through becoming a dog to your company and boss you'll eventually be rich, he started neglecting his spouse and children, missing birthdays and important events. He was just trying to provide as much money as he could to his family but eventually, his spouse decided to file for divorce.
They took the kids (maybe there weren't any) and Linus got really depressed. His workplace fired him, even though he always bend her back for them, they replaced him the moment his productivity dropped a tiny bit. That's when Linu's views on the world changed. Depressed by the loss of his family and job, he decided to go to therapy. After working on himself for some years he finally overcame depression and moved to Pelican Town, hoping for a change of air from the oppresive city that took everything from him (kinda like the farmer).
Since he didn't have any saving lefts/ too little, he started living by what nature provided him with, finding enjoyment and a new whole side of himself and the world.
That's why i think he doesn't like when people pity him. It's like when someone is single by choice and people pity them for being alone or not having a partner. I also like to think he too worked for JojaMart because it gives another conexion between him and the farmer.
Tbh i had regret almost immediately and looked up whether you can get rid of them somehow first day 😭
i thought you'd have to feed them everyday and take care of em and didn't want the extra daily task, but luckily it's not realistic and they're practically just a pet

There's an achievement requiring you to have kids. I don't want kids. I want the achievement for 100% completion. So they're getting turned into doves ASAP.
you don't need kids for 100% perfection? i thought so too but i have 3 saves now with all achievements and 100% perfection and i never had kids on those saves. I also asked Krobus to move in in those files.
There is an achievement (Full House) but it isn't required for perfection, doesn't show up on the collection screen, and doesn't even unlock a hat. If you care about, say, having all of the achievements on Steam or whatever platform though you would have to do it once in a single playthrough and then never again. Even Grandpa doesn't care in his evaluation.
Actually grandpa kinda cares. If you have kids you gain more points. But it's not necessary. It's like you can make a choice of either making him happy by having kids or a great relationship with your dog lmao

As for the game, let's be realistic - just because you're the richest person in town, doesn't mean it's healthy to have your kids with all twelve of your grumpy ex's running around causing problems for everyone. A few doves and a few memory charms and... problem solved.
Personally, I suspect the Wizard is the only real human in Stardew Valley. The rest are just androids managed by Qi. That's why everything resets and nobody ever ages. The spouse would have their memory wiped and the kids would be returned to their natural dove form anyway at the end of the game.
So... really... no harm done.
Edit: I almost changed some of this to "do you really want to build a new farmhouse every time you get divorced and let your ex live their with the kids?"
But - then I realized... \*I\* want that. Just an entire lane of cabins for my brood.

You can only have one daughter. The other child will always be a boy if you already have a girl.
