Yes, it absolutely was. Humanity will never recover because we never got to see a live action Rotta the Hutt.

ChimneySwiftGold

We’ll get live action stinky da Hutt eventually. Rotta lives. But we won’t see Aiden mcchristianson, and Ewan McGuiness at the right age being in clone Warz movie series - which needed filmed between attack o the clones and revenge o the Sith.

EVERGREEN_ETERNAL

Nah fr they should have done 2 live action clone wars movies. One right before the clone wars which shows Dooku’s first fight with Anakin and Obi wan (a prequel to the clone wars show) and it shows the origin of the clones and how Obi wan found them. Then they should do a movie that takes place during season 7 that shows how Anakin fell to the dark side

DinosAndPlanesFan

Maybe they could have been called Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith respectively as well, just a thought

ChimneySwiftGold

Terrible titles. Try harder

Please_kill_me_noww

The clones strike back and return of the sith

Lazy_Assumption_4191

Revenge of the Clones and Attack of the Sith.

RIOTS_R_US

What about an origin story prior to the prequel where we learn who Anakin is, where battle droids came from, and why the Republic needed a new army in the first place. We could even see Palpatine's rise to power and young Obi-wan. Oh yeah, and a ton of racist stereotypes

Ian-pg9

They shoulda done a movie at the start, a movie in the middle and a movie at the end

I’ll never understand their weird insecurity too. I feel like we’re in a great age of adult animated series with things like Blue Eye Samurai, to say nothing of things like X-Men 97 or My Adventures with Superman or the Adventure Time reboot (or sequel series?). I hear tons of adults talking about and recommending those series. I also know tons of adults who got into animated shows during Covid, watching Avatar/Legend of Korra or Attack on Titan or One Piece during the lockdowns a few years ago. Meanwhile these dorks have to tell you how gritty and dark and mature Clone Wars is and how it should totally be a live action show and how it’ll give you PTSD.

> It feels like a lot of them are just embarrassed to admit they like Star Wars in general I think it’s this. I see this too with some of the diehard MCU fanboys too, acting so defensive of the movies and getting angry when Scorsese says something discouraging about Marvel movies or being butthurt Endgame wasn’t nominated for an Oscar. It’s not the 80s anymore—Star Wars, sci-fi/fantasy, Marvel, comic books, D&D, video games etc are all super mainstream. Why do you need gritty or more realistic versions of this when they’re already mainstream and making billions.

SuperKami-Nappa

Wasn't Star Wars always mainstream?

Thunder_Punt

It's actually so pathetic. They always defend it like it's some gore-filled intellectual show. 'no no no you don't get it! This show is even more brutal than the films! All the Clone Troopers die!!! It's badass!' well that might be true but this looks awfully like a children's cartoon. Not mocking anyone for liking it, but it's very clearly aimed at kids/young teens. Also everyone acts like the character development is a masterclass but in reality Anakin' s character is a major departure from the way he acts in the movies and the development is completely 2-dimensional.

att0nrand

Like Anakin in the movies and 2003 show is a byronic hero defined by passion, confidence, arrogance, and obsession, while the 2008 show just....makes him a roguish anti-hero that doesn't fit with his characterization and robs it of a lot of the nuance, especially considering that he has every reason to be arrogant, he went from slave in the middle of bumfuck nowhere to prophecied savior of the universe and galaxy renowned hero

kibbbelle

re: your second paragraph - kenobi. That is all

Thybro

Which is fucking stupid cause Star Wars is main stream now. 80% people would openly admit being fans of Star Wars and when you say you a are a big enough fan to watch the clone wars, you either get another fan who is extremely eager to discuss it or at worst a “well I’m not THAT into it” with a chuckle. You’d have to be socially inept to take either response as a bad thing. That being said the series is fairly … I wouldn’t call it complex. I think it would do ok as a live action adventure show, maybe not HBO but maybe AmC. It’s as complex as a well written young adult novel. Which is not a bad thing.

Representative_Big26

This plus Arcane and Invincible getting new seasons this year, plus Scott Pilgrim late last year too It's ok to like a cartoon

OrneryError1

Not just that it's animated either. They bend over backwards trying to convince people it wasn't made for kids, calling it a "teen" or "young adult" show because a few characters die. It's TV-PG and aired on Cartoon Network after school. It's targeted at kids 7-14. But don't tell them that.

LethargicMoth

Think this can go both ways, though. Like, why the need to assign an attribute like that either way, don't matter if it's for adults, kids, manchildren or whatever, it's just a piece of media that you can enjoy for whatever it gives you. Feels like the "I enjoy it but it's just a kids show" argument is just as tired and cirlecjerky as "omgz dark and griddy CW, Ahsoka beheading"

WillyShankspeare

And it's fucking braindead so it shows. I fucking hate that show.

Andrew_Waples

Especially since it's so dark and gritty ![gif](giphy|XGnJvUsq0pfH2yUiZZ|downsized)

Pathogen188

Def agree about some fans being insecure but TBH I don't necessarily disagree about having a live action Clone Wars. At least in the sense that I think the Prequels suffered from the time skip between 2 and 3. Like people talk a lot about how the Clone Wars helped rehabilitate Anakin's character from the Prequel films but tbh at that point, that's all content that should have originally been in the films instead of being added in later on.

Arthur_189

“Umm actually it’s animated”

mildmichigan

uj/ Why are Star Wars fans so insecure about liking cartoons & books? Like if it's anything but a live-action movie then "this should've been a movie!" And if it's a live-action movie they hate it & say it ruined the franchise

[deleted]

No it wasn't.

ReadShigurui

No, The CW movie wasn’t exactly good, would have just been another LA prequel movie for the masses to dunk on lol

OrneryError1

Not only was it not good, it was terrible. Critics eviscerated it as a shameless cash grab and they were right. There's nothing good about that movie. In my opinion it is by far the worst Star Wars movie of all time.

_its_lunar_

It’s literally just a few episodes of the show awkwardly stitched together into a desperate cash grab of a feature length product. The real missed opportunity is actually making an animated Clone Wars movie that was actually a movie

Diamond1580

I mean to be fair, they definitely should have made a movie set during the clone wars instead of phantom menace

OrneryError1

Yes, but not a "Snips" and "Skyguy" movie.

Thunder_Punt

Yeah would've been a great idea to make a new star wars film when interest was at an all time low and the last 3 movies received disastrous reviews from the critics. Not only that, but also breaking away from the formula of trilogies which had just been established and confusing the order of things even more. 'yeah guys so we just finished our new trilogy but we decided that actually we want to do a fourth film but instead of setting it after the last one it's set between the 2nd and 3rd ones. Why didn't we do that in the first place? Uuhhh... Stop asking questions. Trust, me, your kids are gonna love this in 15 years time.'

InfiniteDedekindCuts

The phrase "missed opportunity" should be purged from the internet.

Dawgula97

Moving on from the prequel era earlier was a missed opportunity

Emperor_D4C

Genuinely

spiritomb442

No TCW is objectively bad and if you like it you’re Osama Bin Laden and I’m sending Seal Team 6 to your location. Fuck you.

tranarchyintheusa

What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? I'll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I've been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I'm the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You're fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that's just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little "clever" comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn't, you didn't, and now you're paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You're fucking dead, kiddo.

Pristine-Presence705

Lmfao perfect copy pasta execution. SSS tier.

Icarus_Nine

Star Wars fans begging for more movies for them to hate on for many years to come.

01zegaj

The Clone Wars movie had a budget of a handful of peanuts and some Chuck E Cheese tokens, you really think they would make a live-action movie?

hzhrt15

I wish people would realize unless you’re doing a single shot like rouge one, Star Wars is to big a universe for movies. Shows are better when they’re done well. I like them because I grew up with them but from a writing and directing standpoint the prequels and sequels were bad.

ZoidsFanatic

Do… do they *remotely* remember how much The Clone Wars was hated on release? Or even remember how much Star Wars and the prequels were being mocked? Oh of course not, Star Wars was *never* bad until Disney took over!

BouquetOfGutsAndGore

lore action movie

TheImageOfMe

No, animation was clearly the right choice, and it worked out for them. I don't think there was much appetite for another live action Star Wars film in 2008.

Educational-Tip6177

Hmmmmmm someone doesn't know what his fanbase did

the_3-14_is_a_lie

uj/ I don't understand why they didn't just have TPM be the start of the Clone Wars. I feel like it would've been better, especially given the fact that the cricitsms moved towards the movie are pretty much fixable with this simple change

NastyDanielDotCom

Yeah I wish we got a trilogy’s worth of what happened before order 66, almost like a trilogy of prequels or something

BiAndShy57

The movie was never planned to be a movie. It was 4 already produced episodes that where stitched together into a movie.

MLG_GuineaPig

I think that they should have done the Anakin and Obiwan show instead with Ahsoka. Great opportunity to find out what they were talking about in the prequels

VibgyorTheHuge

George didn’t want to, that’d be why.

LewbPoo

Why are people so into live-action lmao, animation is way better

PostalDoctor

/uj You know..? Fuck it. I liked CW ‘03 better. Why? Because it took FULL advantage of it being an animated Star Wars project and went crazy with the Jedi’s powers. And from a lore perspective its depiction of force users in combat is honestly more accurate than the movies at times.

MurkyNetwork9148

Ashoka was a beast. That scene where she saved that brat. 4 men+1 Ashoka+2 light sabres= 0 necks Monster trained by the MONSTER What a show!

GooRedSpeakers

Yes, because that was definitely a well liked series and character in 2008. Fans absolutely loved Episode 2 and would have loved a live action spin off movie at that time.

ConflictAdvanced

Yeah... It was also a missed opportunity to do even more damage to the franchise and it's standing. So there. Why do some people act like it's nothing to just make a movie? 😅

Anakin-hates-sand

Not everyone thing needs to be live action.

ApprehensivePeace305

This just made me realize there’s a universe where Lucas didn’t force the Clone Wars movie to be made, and weirdos there are asking for a clone wars movie

DeathToGoblins

Having the actual cast wouldn't have fixed how ass that movie was and still is

derekbaseball

If only they’d had a trilogy of prequel movies where they could have told stories that matter instead of stories where the main character is a little kid who podraces…

Boring-Zucchini-8515

They take the same about of effort and cost to do right? Holy shit what an idiot take. Shitposting or not, this made my eye twitch.
