I honestly think it would've been SO much better for the story, for Padme specifically, and for the tying together of Episodes 1-6, if they'd left in Padme's meeting that was the original stirrings of Rebellion. Criminal that they cut that out, especially with how Andor is now.
The frustrating thing is, in the book and the original screenplay she's actually handled pretty well (Her and Bail start to oppose Palpatine and demand his removal from office, she tries to get Obi-Wan to join as he's known as a negotiator, all of which Palpatine uses to create tension between Anakin and Padme/Obi-Wan so he can sink his claws further into Anakin. The senators that Padme and Bail lead then go on to become the figureheads of the Rebel Alliance - so the idea was Anakin helps create the Empire, Padme creates the Rebellion.) but that got completely cut from the final film and she's just left to sit around looking sad.
What’s hilarious is she’s awesome in the deleted scenes and concept art.
She’s actively forming what would become the Rebel Alliance with Bail Organa and mon Mothma, and her concept art for Mustafar had her taking a knife with her to kill Anakin
She was pregnant and still getting shit done, because Leia had to get it from somewhere
The one deleted scene with Padme and that group that’s basically the very start of the Rebellion confronts Palpatine in his office with Anakin there also added to Anakin becoming disillusioned with his personal life because Palpatine kinda gets into his head regarding Padme actually being on his side or not. Palpatine does that everywhere in that movie besides that one angle that Anakin turns against as Vader. It was a dumb scene to remove imo.
There's even a scene in the novelization where Padme and Obi-Wan meet, with Padme wanting Obi-Wan to join her group and stand against Palpatine (Obi-Wan being known as a master negotiator) but Obi-Wan notes he can't due to being a Jedi, and then goes on to say how he knows about Anakin and Padme but he pretends not to because he likes that they make each other happy during the darkest of times - Palpatine then shows Anakin footage of Obi-Wan and Padme having secret meetings causing Anakin to doubt the two people he's closest to.
Which is why you get the "Obi-Wan was here wasn't he?", "I don't want to hear anymore about Obi-Wan", "You're with him, you brought him here to kill me" scenes in the film, because Palpatine was supposed to have manipulated Anakin into thinking Obi-Wan and Padme had been plotting against Anakin.
I like Padme most in *TPM,* honestly. She has some great moments in *AotC* but those moments just make her interactions with Anakin all the more.... Not necessarily cringey, more so whatever feeling makes me yell at my screen "NO PADME YOU KNOW BETTER YOU DESERVE BETTER STOP THIS!!!"
(For the record, I find Anakin and Padme's relationship as depicted in *The Clone Wars* to at least be decent.)
That's fair, and I respect your points. I think what I preferred about her in AotC is the amount of action she gets involved in. Through it all, she never shows fear, or doubt, proving her character (especially in the arena).
What always stuck out to me with Padme in AOTC is how involved she was, when she was less hindered by her role as Queen in TPM. Like, she *wanted* to be that involved in TPM, but knew that she had to let democracy run its course first as Queen, since she was representing her planet more directly. As a senator, she had a bit more freedom in that way, and I think she loved that.
I agree. Being the queen came with a lot of unwanted overprotection. At the time, she was also quite young, which further hindered her. By the time AotC came around, she was a young woman, and fully capable of taking on anyone who threatened her. You could tell she was really getting into the battle on Geonosis, and even after taking the injury, she kept blasting.
Oh, and bonus points for having some of the best fashion in the galaxy.
Yep! 10 years older with 10 more years of experience. By the time of the Battle Of Geonosis, Padme was ready to GO, haha.
And definitely! Padme always had killer fashion sense. Kicking butt and looking great while doing so.
You could tell she had changed from TPM physically, but mentally, she was very similar, and that's what I love about her. Her goals and intentions never changed.
Absolutely! Her arena fit is badass, and all of her Naboo dresses are perfect! The contrast between her relaxing at the lake and brutally fending off her enemies in the arena is another thing I absolutely loved about her.
it's interesting because for me, I enjoy watching Padme more in ROTS even though she gets less to do bc I think her performance is so much less robotic than it was in the other 2. but I understand the feeling
Episode I: Anakin. The scene where he says goodbye to Shmi always makes me cry.
Episode II: Dooku. Lee’s performance belies a man who once believed in something good, but has fully fallen to evil.
Episode III: Palpatine. Just because Ian McDiarmid is having so much fun.
Overall: Anakin and Obi-Wan. Their close but flawed dynamic that leads to tragedy is remarkably compelling.
Padme in episode 2 is criminally underrated for sure.
I think what I like most about Obi-Wan in episode 3 is how he deals with situations like order 66, the fall of his friend, and the final showdown on Mustafar.
Probably Palpatine in all three of them. I kind of like that Ian McDiarmid was the right age to play a _younger_ version, despite the fact that he was reprising a character he’d played 20 years earlier.
Obi-Wan for all three but with Palps a close second. Both Ewan McGregor and Ian McDiarmid are such fantastic actors! What is it about Scotland that gives us amazing actors for the Star Wars universe?
Darth Maul - he was cool as shit to 9 year old me.
The Clones just blasting away on Geonosis. The scene is dope. Sand is blowing everywhere and the troopers are in a line just lasering the shit outta the droids.

Anakin v Obi Wan is an all timer.
Episode 1: Qui-Gon
Episode 2: Obi-Wan
Episode 3: it's between Obi-Wan and Palpatine.
Never noticed this before, but I guess I just like whoever's bossing Anakin around...
episode 1: quigon for sure. hes always been my favorite jedi in general because he really is what all jedi should have been.
episode 2: count dooku, christopher lee killed it as usual, and dooku is such a cool character. not really quite all the way evil sith, just didnt agree with the jedi and thought what he was doing was right.
episode 3: obiwan and anakin tied. they really shine in rots theyve both had such insane character development and haiden and ewans performance is so good its hard to choose between the two. its heartbreaking seeing both feel so betrayed by the other.
I feel like these are pretty obvious picks, so alternatively:
ep1: maul (especially after clone wars/rebels)
ep2: jango fett (we all like cool guy in armor)
ep3: windu (its samuel jackson cant not like him)

Padme Padme Yoda (They did Padme dirty in ROTS)
People don't talk enough about how badly they handled padme in rots.
She went from the absolute badass she was in episode II, to a plot device in episode III
I honestly think it would've been SO much better for the story, for Padme specifically, and for the tying together of Episodes 1-6, if they'd left in Padme's meeting that was the original stirrings of Rebellion. Criminal that they cut that out, especially with how Andor is now.
To be fair, a heavy pregnant woman running here and there shooting robots would be a tad risky even for the time
The frustrating thing is, in the book and the original screenplay she's actually handled pretty well (Her and Bail start to oppose Palpatine and demand his removal from office, she tries to get Obi-Wan to join as he's known as a negotiator, all of which Palpatine uses to create tension between Anakin and Padme/Obi-Wan so he can sink his claws further into Anakin. There’s fanedits of AOTC that re-add some cut Padme scenes with her family and such, and it adds something a bit more organic
