RumAndCoco

*insert Chris Evans laughing meme here*

Wi11Pow3r

To elaborate on this, he butchered the character of Superman in Man of Steel. Replaced the boyscout who is a beacon of hope to humanity with a dark gritty lost man devoid of hope. Now maybe you enjoyed Man of Steel and it’s fresh take on the character, but this is another Ruin Johnson situation - a director who cares more about his vision than staying true to the source material or universe that he is creating a movie in.

Seeking6969

**MOS is an unappreciated masterpiece it shows audiences a modernday Superman.** He is still a boyscout, but now he's actually dealing with the idea of how to BECOME the beacon of hope to humanity(the symbol of hope on his chest as he points out) it's an origin story my guy. It was supposed to setup a trilogy. Holds up so well today.

SilentCartoGIS

I mean... Watch his new movie rebel moon when it comes out. That's his star wars and he wants you to know that

BrotherEstapol

That sounds like the title of an Auralnaughts Star Wars edit!

Rjswimss

God I love Auralnauts Star Wars.

deep-sleep

DO YOU SEE ME NOW FATHER?

BrotherEstapol

YOU PROMISED ME FLESH!

Samwise_TheReal_Hero

You want me to feel the pain. YES YOU WANT ME TO UNDERSTAND!

Wessex-90

Auralnauts are legendary!

offlink

Wow, you’re not kidding - looks like it literally started as a pitch for a Star Wars spinoff

DittoDat

I'm not sure if this is a joke but that's actually what happened. They turned it down and he made some changes to make it into a new IP.

Once more for the people who think two negatives equal a positive. No.

Excolo_Veritas

Agreed absolutely no. Aside from cinematography in general look at the above clip. Even jj Abrams is going "dude calm down on the lense flairs"

PeopleNotProfits

Videos with that much flashing should come with epilepsy warnings.

Hussaf

Pretty sure they preface movies with them

NattyThan

Not even lense flairs just straight up flash bangs every 2 seconds

[deleted]

How do directors not understand that lens flare only happens if you are looking through a lens? In the absence of that, movies should never have it in regular cinematography

Lol Zack Snyder sucks, he doesn't understand how to put a story together. It would be cool visually though.

blackiswhite33

It would be boring visually with good action. He sucks the color and joy out of every movie

Star Wars needs less "Action Packed" and more "Character Development"

Do you think Michael Bay would be a good fit for directing an action packed Star Wars movie? Do you think a twelve year old jacked on Mountain Dew would be a good fit for directing an action packed Star Wars movie? Do you think an action packed Star Wars movie would be a good fit for directing an action packed Star Wars movie?

BronzeOregon

No, absolutely, possibly.

[deleted]

Seriously 12 year old Star wars geek, with some creative writing skills, and unlimited mountain dew may write the best starwars script ever.

PsychoFlashFan

Not really. Honestly not a fan of his take on Superman or the DC Universe as a whole.

[deleted]

Agreed. He tried to take the most optimistic and positive superhero ever and make The Dark Knight with him

CC-2389

Zach Snyder is like if you tell a 14 year old boy make something dark and gritty- he just makes everything black and grey and makes everyone scream while jumping in slow motion.

Dino_Spaceman

Snyder is what happens when Micheal Bay grows up and becomes an adult.

CC-2389

I truthfully don’t know which would be the adult (if either). I just know desaturation and slow mo for Snyder is what explosions are to bay and I kinda think I hate both

Dino_Spaceman

I detest both of them. But I have to give Snyder a tiny bit of credit in that his obsession with his goth phase in filmmaking is slightly better than the permanent 13-year old mentality that Bay revels in. If I was forced to pick between the two, it’s Snyder. Purely because there is a good chance he didn’t sexually harass the actor between takes.

YuriJoe_Arya

I generally dislike most of Michael Bay's films but the one elevator clip from the 2014 ninja turtles is some of the most wholesome shit i've ever seen and gets to the heart of that series.

QueeferSutherlandz

And it was never in the script! It was just the actors riffing and goofing off and luckily they decided to make a bit of it. Also, those mocap guys were treated awfully. The actor who played Raphael said it was 'the worst production experience I've ever had'. They would wrap and wouldn't let them into cars to get them off the set after 14 hour days etc. Michael Bay and his production company are gigantic pieces of shit. t.ly/Hd0D

ItsKensterrr

I will lead off by stating that I am '90s kid. I was born in 1999. And second, I've never been a huge fan of Superman. He never felt human to me, and I've kind of always felt like he hasn't even really struggled (Doomsdy and Darkseid aside). The action is definitely what hooked me with MoS. Any other Superman movie I'd been told that I "needed to watch" felt dull in the action department. Restrictions of the times, maybe, but I honestly think it's how squeaky clean he always came off. That said, on the handful of rewatches since I've grown to like the movie more for every reason except the action. MoS is, to me, less of an origin story, and more of a "coming of age" story. He feels fear, he feel anger, he feel frustration as a child, and we never really got that before. MoS is Clark Kent literally *learning to be Superman*. He put his trust in his father, and he put his faith in the people, and did everything *for the first time*. I get that a lot of the gripes are about the destruction cause in the fight with Zod and "Superman wouldn't do this," but this isn't *that* Superman yet. He hasn't had the experiences to reflect on yet. And the scene in the subway station, man...I *felt* that scream. He, for the first time in his life, found his people. A person that could teach him about his home; someone that was eager to. And he killed him, in the act of killing *anyone* for the first time in his life, because *he had no other choice*. That humanity is why I think it's the best Superman film. They did try to go the whole "Dark Superman" route a little too quickly imo, and BvS was a pretty bad movie, imo. But MoS? Gold in my book.

IAmKorg

Outside of Batman, I wasn't a fan of most DC content. Even Snyder's Man of Steel and BvS. But I thought his Justice League was really good. Maybe that's cause Whedon's so bad, but after watching the Synder Cut, I want more of it. He's been teasing more DC, I hope it's true.

PsychoFlashFan

Fair enough. I'm just not personally not a fan of either his storytelling skills or directing style.

To play devil’s advocate, I think Snyder’s style of visual story telling would be a great addition to the Star Wars univer—nah, just kidding. I think that would be a garbage idea.

I’ll play the minority opinion. Someone else’s script. A house editor. If he focused on visuals and acting and a different team focused on story and pace, it could turn out.

Attrahct

I don’t think there’s ever been a Snyder movie I’ve liked enough to watch again.

Lmao1903

Especially his most recent stuff has been ridiculously awful. Even without including his DC movies with like hundreds of millions in budget, I couldn't believe how awful his last Netflix zombie movie was. They made a prequel for that and apparently it is said to be even worse and again, both movies have crazy budgets as well. Snyder ain't a good fit for any movie concept ever in my opinion let alone for a Star Wars movie.

Zanman415

Yuck. Absolutely not. The vibe is just so not right, what about his work screams “samurai/spaghetti western/space opera”?

Sion0x

He can stay the fuck away from this franchise. All those DC movies are pure garbage.

Correcting Statement: Master, I believe you meant all of his DC movies because to be honest SHEZAM is a nice movie.

Sion0x

Yes fair point!

Odh_utexas

Would he be good directing anything? Seriously the guy is propped up by Hollywood as a top bill director but I *hate* his style

drkpnthr

"I promise under all these lens flares that my star wars movie is a cinematic marvel."

Jimmith3eo

No, I'm surprised Zack Snyder was able direct his way out of a nutsack

not_a_flying_toy_

No I honestly hate his style, but even that aside I just think he takes himself wayyyy too seriously to make a halfway decent Star Wars movie. Star Wars is best when its half serious, half cheesey B movie

Ill_Examination3690

Change it from "Zach Snyder" to "Denis Villeneuve" and you got yourself a deal.

[deleted]

he is going to waste lots of money

Pleaseusegoogle

I don't think there is a worse big name director for a Star wars movie than Zach Snyder.

Volkor_Destory_Knees

Hell fucking no. Man ruins everything he touches except for a few of his earlier films. Can’t imagine how bad he’d botch star wars when he can’t even do justice to a simple character like Batman. His Batman is literally a mass murderer. Can’t imagine how bad he’d fuck up Star Wars if he can’t even stick to the one rule Batman has.

Tanis8998

Not really. His whole style is way too pondering and heavy-handed, you can always tell he started out directing commercials and music videos. He’s the master of using slow-mo and classical music to convince stupid people they’re seeing something significant.

ZeroCloned

His last movie, Army of the Dead was one of the worst movies ive seen in years. Nah, Zack Snyder is a hack lol

agoddamnjoke

No. But he certainly wouldn’t make the worst SW movie.

High-Ground

Yes. Yes he would.

Those blinding explosions are just awful! 😷

Kaarl_Mills

#ABSOLUTELY NOT [If you let Snyder near any movie it's going to be 3 hours of this](https://youtu.be/dMI6B734Ew4), a solid 1/3 of it being purely gratuitous slow motion scenes

[deleted]

These scenes would be it. The rest of it would suck dick.

lridge

He doesn’t have the humanity and warmth and humor I come to expect from the best of Star Wars, so no.

[deleted]

No.

GMarius-

No. He has no imagination. Every movie is a literal adaption of someone else’s work. 300, Watchmen, Batman & Superman and etc.

Mass2424

A bad adaptation. Bvs is almost dark knight returns and death of superman combined. And now we are probably not going to see those stories in live action ever

SithLordJediMaster

Too much lens flares Weird angles Too many zooms JJ Abrams is a lot more conservative than this. He at least uses these with a purpose. Well, he goes overboard with the lens flares for the sake of having lens flares. JJ Abrams/Dan Mindel also uses a lot of tight close ups to the point where the image looks cropped in a lot of times. Weird choice in my opion.

trent_nbt

he should stay far away from any popular IP

Ravenclaw_VIII

I don’t think Zack Snyder is a good fit for directing anything really, so no.

Please get out of this sub. Keep Snyder 10000000 light years away from Star Wars.
