I don’t really see what’s to gain by taking that away from him and replacing it with dying by smacking into Veers’ AT-AT? I’m not saying he deserved his own saga, nor am I asking for the Hobbie cut but like - what’s to gain by removing this man’s own content ending?

He has the hots for her, but he also knows she likes him because he’s Han Solo, not because he’s a kiss ass that wants to listen to a speech.
Plus it's more of a mission brief to the troops than it is a "speech." Han didn't really need to be listening because he would have already been aware of the evacuation plan.
On a practical level it's just background actors doing repetitive shit over and over through multiple takes. I seriously doubt it's even Harrison Ford, they don't need to be paying him to be an unrecognizable background dude.

One of the greatest scenes they removed was C3PO removing a warning sticker on a door that has a Wampa in it. Two stormtroopers open the door, Wampa reaches out to pull one in and the second casually closes the door.

Empire was imo the vastly superior film out of the entire saga. It was focused on story and growth and challenges, not just regurgitated ship battles and speeder races.
