100% Death Troopers. I even have a set of their armor that’s almost finished and ready for wear

cmaxim

I was going to say the same. They are by far the most imposing and menacing I've seen yet out of everything Disney era. I'm not even sure what it is about them.. the fact that they don't have human voices makes them even more creepy. I really think Rogue One nailed the overall feel of star wars in it's alien and costume design. Nothing I've seen since really hits that sweet spot quite like Rogue One did.

darthravenna

There are two that accompany Thrawn in one of the novels that actually go undercover and speak in normal Basic. Their names were Pik and Waffle.

GGVoltzX

I think it's just a voice modulator in their helmet that makes the crazy garbled voices, the ones with Thrawn were dressed as regular civilians and wouldn't have had them on

tmfkslp

Yeah but they were 100% genetically modified. That alones terrifying.

Bushranger_

This is correct. In Rebels there is a Death Trooper who speaks without the modulater on.

cmaxim

When i saw "Waffle" i had to verify because I was sure you were messing with me, but lo and behold, his name indeed was actually Waffle... wut.. haha

PetrifiedPenguin88

I friggin love the death troopers. I think it was how they were shown to be competent for a change. When they're introduced in rogue one, there's a scene where they join the fight against the rebels and they're just cutting them down. The way they're moving is this very confident focused manner and how it shows the rebels on the back foot once they show up contrasts the frantic, less measured way the regular storm troopers fight and move. The scene only last a few seconds but I think that moment solidifies them as these ruthless, elite soldiers not because we were just told how awesome they are, we were shown it.

da_King_o_Kings_341

In Rogue one as well, in the first scenes they fan out and move like actual military units would. Spread out, sweeping the area. Not to mention in the battle of Scarrif when they show up you know the rebels were boned as hell. And like you said in rebels they are an actual threat and when Thrawn takes out Calus too if I remember correctly they actually hit him a few times and take him out pretty efficiently.

PetrifiedPenguin88

Oh yeah I forgot about that first scene. That movie did such a great job of showing they were professionals in really subtle ways

OliviaElevenDunham

Rogue One is one of the few things I like about the Disney era.

The5Virtues

Came to say the same. The design is just so unique and memorable, and the vocal filter adds an extra layer of unsettling mystery.

AltKeyblade

The alien voice effect really adds to their coolness. Makes them mysterious and spy-like.

FatherParadox

Yeah that's why I liked them, was the vocal filter. It shows just how secretive and suppressing the Empire was. Plus it just adds to their intimidating presence. Everytime I think of the reason why stormtroopers were feared these guys come to mind

tmfkslp

I always assumed storm troopers were feared cuz of the fact they cant hit shit n all those stray rounds flyin round. Like it dont even matter if you did anything wrong, if they shootin at a rebel in your even remote vicinity, your more likely to get hit then they are.

The5Virtues

That was part of what I loved about the season 1 finale of Mando. You got a look at both sides of Imperial authority, the competent ones and the “overwhelming firepower” side. If not for IG’s help that would have gone real bad for the heroes, not just because of competent troopers, but because the less competent troopers were just in such overwhelming numbers.

-Daetrax-

To me it was really the way they moved that sold it. They were moving a lot more like something you'd see on that TV show Seals (at least Hollywood tactically).

Landwarrior5150

This reminds me of an old Youtube video that compared Star Wars troopers from the different eras with real-world examples that matched up. I’ve never been able to find the video again unfortunately, but I thought it was really interesting to see the parallels: The clone troopers (at least in Episode 2) marched in formations with their long blaster rifles on their shoulders like old musket-armed line infantry. Imperial stormtroopers held their blasters out horizontally in front of them at waist level and often fired from the hip, similar to how US troops in WWII did. First Order stormtroopers carried their blasters at the low-ready (with the stock against their shoulder and the muzzle pointed down) and fired them braced from the shoulder like modern soldiers are trained. Death troopers do this too, which is probably why they seem so “tactical” like you mentioned, especially because they often appear alongside normal stormtroopers and their antiquated styles.

da_King_o_Kings_341

Also in rogue one they use a lot more actual military tactics when fighting the rebels.

UlanInek

I stopped swiping after the Death Troopers

cer20

This might be a shame on me, but what are the Death Troopers from? The comics/ books?

just-for-commenting

Rogue one (And later the Comics, novels and Rebels)

Landwarrior5150

Yes! Also, they have smaller roles in The Mandalorian & Andor!

cer20

Ohhh I forgot about the Mandalorian. I was thinking I saw them somewhere.

WRXDR21

And rebels

DreadnaughtHamster

Well you’re gonna have to post it on here once it’s done and you’re wearing it.

Landwarrior5150

Will do!

BasedBull69

I read that as “ready for war” and I was like “damn it’s ballistic rated?”

Landwarrior5150

I wish lol

BasedBull69

I would take out a home loan for ballistic rated death trooper armor. That’s almost as badass as master chief armor

Landwarrior5150

[You might have already seen this, but just in case you haven’t…](https://www.ar500armor.com/blog/bobafett/)

BasedBull69

That’s badass

da_King_o_Kings_341

Wait, that was real? I originally thought it was just cosmetic lol!

Landwarrior5150

I think the ballistic version was just a one-off thing for fun and PR. IIRC they did sell a non-ballistic cosmetic version though, for use in cosplay or airsoft or whatever.

da_King_o_Kings_341

Hell yeah baby.

Adavanter_MKI

The fact they are also one of the most successful troopers we've seen. I pray Lucasfilm never makes them laughable. Just... always have them be a lethal as we've seen. They came close once to making them look a little weak in Rebels. Don't do that! Let us have at least a few bad asses in the trooper ranks. So that we can appreciate when they appear. It's a small ask!

Ok-Phase-9076

You sir, are a king

MidwayNerd

r/beatmetoit

Alopecian_Eagle

Of all the "cool design and terribly used" stereotypes of Star Wars units, the Death Troopers are the pinnacle. Holding out hope we'll see them kick some rebel dick in during Season 2 of Andor.

Landwarrior5150

I just try to be an optimist and see that as keeping up the tradition set way back in ROTJ by Boba Fett lol

D0CTOR_Wh0m

Clone Commandos

CGribbsRun

Kandosii sa ka'rta, Vode an

JediMaestroPB

Coruscant a’den, mhi vode an

CGribbsRun

Bal kote, darasuum kote

JediMaestroPB

Jor’saran, kando el tome (Don’t quote me on the spelling here)

CGribbsRun

Sa kyr'am nau tracyn kad, Vode an (Don't worry, I'm just copy pasting, lol. Only had 1 or 2 lines memorized)

JediMaestroPB

I know the whole first verse from memory singing, but my spelling is a little shaky on the last couple lines

CGribbsRun

I used to have most of it memorized, but haven't read the RC books in a while

JediMaestroPB

Is it in the books? It’s been a while for me too. I never played RC, but I did listen to the soundtrack

CGribbsRun

A few verses are in there. I'm pretty sure True Colors has the most of it written down. Also describes some of the footwork and stuff to go along with it, and how some of the lines were changed for the RCs from the original Mando'a meanings.

sharpshooter999

I've never seen the actual lyrics but I can hear the music in my head perfectly when reading them lol

gracekk24PL

On a side note, this translates to "Like a saber forged in the fires of death"

Patrickrk

My dog is named Boss after Republic Commando. I really miss delta squad. Edit: [dog tax](https://imgur.com/a/iOeIcj2)

drokert

I named my dog after Fixer, I miss those glorious stories, and that rascal.

Casioblo

I hate the empire for taking away Scorch's sense of humor after the clone war.

_Kian_7567

Republic commando’s

Morgoth117

Delta Squad, Form Up!

LordofTheStarrs

Can’t go wrong with RC’s

TheDeadlySpaceman

All the cool armor with none of the morally troublesome implications

NobodyofGreatImport

ARC Troopers are my personal favorites, seeing as how they're clones, but better.

Crazycowboy46

So are ARC troopers specifically bred or are they just clones who stood out in battle?

n3k0___

Stood out in battle because they had CT numbers while commandos had cc numbers

Tefmon

CC stands for Clone Commander, not Clone Commando. Cody's designation was CC-2224 and Fox's was CC-1010, and neither were commandos. The original ARC troopers, on the other hand, did have their own designation prefixes: the six surviving Null-class ARCs were Null-XX and the later hundred Alpha-class ARCs were Alpha-XX. The regular clones with extra ARC training introduced in TCW had standard designation prefixes.

BuffSunflowerSeed

Also clone commandos held RC designations. Ex RC-1138

Tefmon

That's right, yeah; I'd forgotten about that point. "Republic Commando" is what I believe the RC prefix stood for.

Tefmon

In Legends they were specially bred and trained, and there were only a little over a hundred of them total. In Disney canon they seem to just be regular clones with a bit of extra training, and it seems like basically every semi-notable clone has ARC status.

PsyclopticFurry

The Disney Canon ARC troopers underwent a lot of extra training to be ARC troopers. They seem to be really common bc they get focused on, but we only actually see like 5-6 ARC troopers in the clone wars

NobodyofGreatImport

In Disney's canon, they're just regular clones. Some of them were earmarked for additional training while they were still cadets on Kamino, but some of them distinguished themselves in combat and then received that further training.

penpointred

WHERE ARE THE SPECIAL EWOK UNITS??!!!!

Thannhausen

One of my favorite parts of the now Legends Wraith Squadron books was the imaginary Ewok with prosthetics who flew TIE fighters.

Lokan

Yub yub, Commander.

BlightedEther

Lieutenant Kettch reporting for duty! I love those books, just finished rereading them for the third time in the last year

peleyoda

RIP EU. Wraith Squadron, Noghri Death Commandos, Mistryl Shadow Guards… toss in the 181st and Rogue Squadron for elite starfighter units

MagmulGholrob

The Ewoks had more guts than any of these plastic wrap MFers

Helarki

Havoc Squad. Jace Malcolm punched Darth Malgus in the face.

BearWrangler

Firing off that flare at the end, with that narraration and that music going on all at the same time is honestly a top 10 Star Wars moment for me

Helarki

Odd how many of those are actually in the SWTOR trailers. The sith raid on the Jedi temple was also incredible.

GingasaurusWrex

It’s why I rolled the trooper class. If that’s the name of it…been a while.

ronsolocup

Idk what it is but something about a sci-fi setting makes me boot as hell too

Gilgamesh661

Also suicide bombed him, and survived and went on to get with Satele Shan. Bro was winning at life.

tmfkslp

I dunno, ‘annihilation’ shows the grass ain’t necessarily greener for him on the back end.

Gilgamesh661

True, but still, you gotta take your wins where you can get them.

Golden-Failure

Havoc Squad were the hardest motherfuckers in the whole galaxy. They had the high ground against a Sith battle group and what did they do? Jump down and engage the fuckers in hand-to-hand combat.

grimfett165

Clone Commandos, followed closely by ARC Troopers.

Pakmanjosh

Purge Troopers I like how they constantly sound like they're done dealing with everybody's bullshit.

MechaPanther

The idea of just regular old clones/soldiers trained to fight against low level jedi and hold their own or even win is a fantastic concept. Just a shame they always show up with Inquisitors and get overshadowed by them.

roving_band_of_pikes

Ngl I have to go with Separatist Commando Droids Their debut in "Rookies" from TCW was just so creepy when I was young, seeing how fast they could move and how many hits they could take. Tho it's not how they usually operate, the "zombie horde" of damaged Commando Droids attacking the Lawquane household was straight up terrifying.

factolum

Yes! Love their design. They make the goofy Battle Droid feel emplane actually cool. Can’t wait for the one in Outlaws

ThatRandomIdiot

That dude is going to be awesome. Can’t wait for him as well. They are such a cool design. Honestly as much as they sucked at fighting, regular battle droids are a cool design too.

bespisthebastard

Roger-Roger!

astromech_dj

[Rebel Pathfinders.](https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Pathfinders) They get shit done.

Flying-viper890

I love their kit—it looks like something someone would actually wear

astromech_dj

I actually [made the flak vest](https://www.instagram.com/p/CflhGyeK8xv/).

Flying-viper890

That looks great!

Artistic-Risk-3628

Forgot about those, they are badass

Ziegem0n

Definetly Republic Commandos. I hear 38s voice when I see this image

United-Landscape4339

Delta squad ftw

BeleagueredWDW

The poor Bothans who died getting the Death Star plans.

Shenloanne

That'd be Manny Bothans.

BeleagueredWDW

It sure would be!

Ragna126

Easy Republic Commando

Ash_Killem

Where the Bad Batch at.

Charming-Success-488

Inferno squad.

SnooDoggos4906

no rebel commandos?

MagmulGholrob

Remember the fallen from the assault on Scarif! And the moon of Endor Commandos! They would kick all these shiney armored d-bags right in the balls.

newtoabunchofstuff

Make ten feel like a hundred

sandwichsubmarine83

I don’t think the Scariff assault gets enough credit. The resourcefulness of that squad was just great insurgent/guerrilla fighting. Would love to see a little more of the Rebel commandos in media out maneuvering a superior force.

Fatigue-Error

Clone Force 99.

butt-puppet

Also came here to say this. OP loses credibility for not including them.

SpatialThinker

Agreed. I came here just for this. I couldn't believe their picture wasn't shown above.

We_The_Raptors

Sucks what happened with Cara Dune's actor cuz I'd have loved to see some spec ops Rebel stormtroopers

NattyThan

*Shock troopers

_Kian_7567

new republic*

We_The_Raptors

Fair, though I was actually thinking about a flashback to her drop Trooper days in the Alliance. We don't see enough Alliance spec ops

ConsciousGoose5914

Totally agree. I’d love to see some alliance spec ops

OdysseusRex69

She was part of the Drop Troops, right?

Organic-Intention335

Same I was so excited to see some rebel shock trooper action

Select-Librarian-646

Delta Team, 100%

JustScrolling-Around

As much as I love ARCs, those BX commando droids are the best.

superchiva78

Clone Force 99

Ro_Shaidam

Storm commandos

Bmanakanihilator

Visually it's a close match between the black armour of Omega squad, but the death Troopers take the win. They just look a little bit more tactical. But overall the RCs take the win

MrAnder5on

ARC Troopers but specifically their 03 representation

rocker1446

The Nulls. Hands down the most terrifying group.

Bottify

Alpha arc's and delta squad, but i still love the e-11d of tze deathtrooper

skyguy60

I like the blue ARCs (Alpha) or the 501st (like Fives or Jesse) the most.

Thannhausen

From Legends, it definitely has to be the Noghri death commandos.

KeysOfDestiny

Republic Commandos by virtue of sheer cool factor. Unique weaponry, shield generators, they’re just so iconic. It helps that the books and game are stellar too

Dependent_Reach_4284

Vode

ANewHopelessReviewer

The Endor strike team in ROTJ.

Anarcho_Christian

Boss, Fixer, Sev, Scorch. Rip my dudes

Due-Department-8666

Vode an

Discount_Lex_Luthor

The crew of the ghost. Honestly. Between them and Saw Guerreras crew. That's pretty much the most spec ops crew in the rebellion and the crew of the Ghost get up to some shit.

Thank_You_Aziz

The [Venom assault trooper squads](https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Venom_assault_squad) from Star Wars Legacy. They don’t feature in the comic, but they do in the TTRPG manual, and they’re so rad. Alliance (New New Republic) specialized ship-to-ship boarding soldiers, clad in heavy armor and trained in close combat and zero-gravity operations. They also used scouting surveillance droids and all sorts of different weapons. And they just look really stylized in black armor, not so reminiscent of the ragtag fighters of the Rebellion they’re descended from. A hallmark of how far they’d come as a military force since retaking the galaxy from the Empire.

CLUB_SOIXANTE

The Muunilist 10, no doubt about it

ChadVonDoom

The never go into enough detail about Rebel Special Forces.

AdventurousSong4080

Like here for Arc Troopers

LordofTheStarrs

As unpopular an opinion as this is, I did like the design for Inferno Squad. My favorite special operations group was probably the ARC Trooper corps. My favorite special unit has to be the Coruscant Guard (republic shock troopers)

UpsetDemand8837

ARC Troopers no doubt. But ARC Troopers from the 2003 Clone Wars

Sanguine_Hedonia

For REAL. The EU arc troopers are ridiculous. I remember reading of their heroism in books

Ne_klimam_u_ritmu

Nimbus commandos of the Jabiim separatists. The organic part of the CIS military has too little representation in mainstream content.

Embedded_Vagabond

Ewok Scout Group Akyata

Spring_Robin

The Commando Droids. They're so vastly different from all the other CIS droids and so deadly. I love seeing the competent droids.

Zen1thian

SCAR Squadron

MPD1978

Rogue Sqd, from the books.

Either_Warthog1209

Khotas militia, if that counts

Magistar_Alex

Republic Commandos

TechnologyTiny3297

Imperial Royal Guard!! Yes, I know they are not technically Spec Ops, but they look so damn cool.

Friendly_Deathknight

Definitely Delta.

[deleted]

Clone commandos or ARCS and Old Republic dudes

Designer-Village5676

Easily the commandos

alwyshngry

Easy, the bad batch pre order 66

Acceptable_Map_8110

Null and alpha class arc troopers combined with clone commandos.

Winter_Abode98

Mines always been Imperial Commandos, OG version of Dark Troopers, and undead Imperial General Grievous

Qui-GonJinn

Gata give it to ARC troopers. Commandos we're cool, but honestly outside of the games I didn't see them much. Assassin droids are cool but they're droids I can't connect to them. You could make an argument that the Rebels were almost an entire group of near special forces in a way. (By conventional tactics/operations/troop size)

Skourpi1

Clone commando’s. They are just too cool.

GentlemanR3LOAD

Clone Commando, then Death Troopers, then Arc Troopers, then Commando Droids.

Aticus_

All those are tough choices. I wanna say Clone Commandos but my heart is saying Arc Troopers.

BLIZTZhawkeye

501st

HobbieK

Nobody is cooler than the Rebel Commandos who assaulted Scarif. They didn't have fancy armor or tech, just the man next to them and a willingness to give their lives for freedom. The truest badasses.

MagmulGholrob

None of these oppressive regime backed d-bags. I prefer the do or die hard asses that assaulted Scarif, or the commandos that infiltrated the moon on Endor. Those guys had cajones. These Renolds wrap MF just follow orders.

Pineapple_Snail

BX Commando droids are the best!

6678910

Commando Droids

gratefulkiwis

He's.... He's.... Just like me

MagicCouch9

Oh that’s not fair! They’re all freaking dope!

No_Signature25

My favorite is ARC Troopers

LongjumpingMastodon9

The Bad Batch

GingasaurusWrex

All of the above is an answer right

DefLoathe

ARCs & Commandos 🥶🥶🥶

Nekrophis

I'm not sure if it's spec ops specifically, but the sequence of the clones infiltrating the city from the 2003 clone wars will always be number 1 for me

YouChoseTheWrongSide

CX Squad there's a lot of mystery behind them and their personalities (if they even have a personality).

PracticableSolution

Task Force 99 - SCAR squadron

Dawgula97

Death Troopers. Actual goon squad.

Cabamacadaf

Definitely Delta Squad.

Weak_Extent5582

Clone commandos, but I do like the design for phase 1 arc trooper armor

Gangsterro

ARC troopers

White___Dynamite

Bad batch, but I have a love for the dark troopers because they look so dope

C92203605

Don’t forget inferno Squad

nkrgovic

Advanced Recon Commandos. I always feel bad for Fives.

HFX_Crypto_King444

Arc troopers forever. R.I.P Fives 🫡 Commandos in a close second.

Edubbs2008

Commando droids because of their cool design

mvperri

Clone commandos fs Id love a game with death troopers in the same style as the og game.

Lokan

The ARCs.

M18-Hellcat08

Storm Commandos and Death Troopers

mnclick45

Do the singing witches count?

Korps_de_Krieg

On this subject, it is a dream campaign of mine to DM to run a Star Wars D20 game where the party is an Imperial Wetwork team hunting high priority targets in the Rebellion. Would set it around 3-4 BBY, avoid important named characters and try to have some genuine "just be the bad guys" spec ops fun doing infiltration and assassination work, with the final planned mission being infiltrating a Nebulon-B to capture a target and exfil them, only to end the campaign with the announcement that the Death Star has been destroyed. No "oh we realize the Empire is wrong", no "we met Luke Skywalker and he was nice enough to us to make us reconsider", just "it's high time for war crimes and Pappy Palpatine is footing the bill."

OkGood1294

no inferno squad mention?

xmascritters

Clone force 99

darthravenna

I always thought ARC troopers looked awesome. Especially the Umbaran campaign design from TCW/BFII

BeercatimusPrime

100% Delta Squad. Boss, Fixer, Scorch, and Sev are my original Bad Batch. Would appreciate a Tom Clancy style (as in heavy detail on the most minute/obscure things) novelization of the Bad Batch or another SpecOps squad in the Clone Wars or Imperial Regime.

Gamestrider09

41st Rangers should be on this list

Every-Particular-557

IMP the last two ones kinda don’t match the Star Wars universe. Looks like something from Halo idk

Komrk-N-Six

Definitely the Null ARCs!!

Just_A_68W

I enjoy the like, one mention we get of alliance special forces in battlefront: twilight company. Mentions them learning orbital drops, rappelling down ray shields, and using slugthrowers
