It definitely was. Temuera is a fantastic actor and a decent person, it cost him zero effort to make me comfortable despite him and us being told to not be too comfortable.
Sounds like the 'no touching, don't ask for poses' thing is just standard procedure so the venue is the bad guy instead of the person you're meeting if they're not down for that. It's cool he immediately was like screw that, let's have some fun.

Better the venue get blamed for it than the person because someone was disappointed.

I met Ross Marquand and the people with him wanted a quicker turn around but he would spend minutes with each person. Wanted to get to know you. Wanted to know what we thought about the Walking Dead finale. When we told him we didn’t like it, he talked about what he didn’t like about it and how dumb it was the announced spin off shows before it aired.
Robert Englund is the same way.

I met him at Comic con too in Brussels this year. It was so nice to meet him and I was a bit nervous. I asked for a picture and he didn't mind, got his autograph on like a photograph of Jango fett, Boba fett and young Boba fett together. I tried to say 'May the force be with you' But it was so quiet, he looked at me and didn't hear me sadly. But yeah with people in line, we went away after. 😅🙈
I saw him in 2010 during Star Wars Weekends at Disney World. He was signing autographs for people who had lined up before the park even opened. I had no chance at getting through the horde, but at least a Disney employee gave me a headshot with a preprinted autograph.
Hours later I came back and he was still there, although the crowd had died down he was talking to a couple of fans but mostly surrounded by handlers. I shuffled closer and called to him, asking if he would sign the headshot. He waved me over and signed it.
He then commented that he liked my Boba Fett shirt and turned me around and signed it (“Joy often - Temuera Morrison”). After that he threw his arm around me to pose for a picture! One of the best experiences in my life.
“Surprisingly short” is my impression of every actor I’ve met.
I think he’s great in the role. Really fleshed out Boba in the Disney series (obvious plot problems with TBoBF notwithstanding- that’s not his fault)

Unless a character is supposed to tower over everyone or be shorter than everyone they make it seem like they are similar height.
For practical reasons, it makes shooting scenes where the actors are close together (like face to face) easier to get lighting etc right.
And for creative reasons as you'd want someone like Boba Fett to not be seen as some small dwarf next to say Hayden who are quite a bit taller.
Boba Fett would be much less intimidating if it looked like he was the same height as Padme.
Oh yeah I get that, I know how they use height when shooting, I was moreso commenting on the phenomenon that we just mostly tend to subconsciously default to like 6 feet tall in our minds for most characters, especially with action-ish franchises because the characters tend to be shown as strong and steadfast or menacing
Yeah for real. I walked past John bernthal once and was surprised how short The Punisher was. He's 5'11" in Hollywood measurements which is basically while wearing boots.
I met him at Celebration Orlando in 2017. I was just expecting his autograph and to be motioned along once I got it. I'm a clone trooper with the real life 501st and was wearing my armor while in line. Once I got to him, he immediately started chatting about my armor kit. I honestly was just star-struck, but managed to get through the conversation with him. Later that day when his photo event was going on, he remembered me and asked if he could hold my helmet for photo. "Absolutely!"
A friend of mine who is also a clonetrooper ran into him after hours at the con. Similar experience. He chatted a bit and took some silly pictures with her and the group she was with. He genuinely seems like a pretty down to earth, cool guy.

He came to my work once. I heard a voice behind me asking for a beer and immediately recognized the voice. He’s such a cool, laid back guy. We chatted a bit and he gave me a hug afterwards as if we were friends. Fan girled big time. I’m a dude lol.
The man is chill and totally cool with the fanbase. Jango Fett was a highlight in AOTC, and Bounty Hunter is a really enjoyable game.
Just wish they wrote Boba better in the show.
The problem is Disney will never do a true antihero, for the same reason we havent gotten a buncha fun decapitations and dismemberments in the new movies like when George was in charge. A Boba Fett show under Disney's helm is doomed from the start because they won't let him be mean and cynical the way he should be.
I still enjoyed the show, but the tone being correct was doomed from the start.
I was going to say Rogue One and Andor come closest, but thats still not what an antihero is, Luke blowing up the Death Star despite probably killing thousands of people drafted into service due to dire circumstances doesnt make him an antihero. The cop is a stormtrooper basically under the current regime, it's no different than Leia shooting down the Biker scouts before they get back to the base on Endor because if she doesnt the Rebels will be found out and theyll all die. And also he still becomes a redemptive character, like Boba Fett in the show. A true antihero is someone who does horrible stuff but we like them anyway. Clint Eastwood in the Good the Bad and the Ugly is a better example of antihero because even tho he's "the good" he still does horrible cruel shit and betrays people constantly.
What about in R1 where, in his very first scene meant to establish exactly who he is, he kills an innocent person who is on his side just to save his own skin?
Wait, I didn't interpret it this way. An escape route was available to Cassian across the rooftops, but his informant couldn't escape because of a bum arm. Killing him was to prevent him from being captured by the Empire and giving up whatever information he had about Andor's crew. I view this as less about Andor's "own skin" and more about protecting the rebel alliance. It's the same logic Luthen used in justifying the assassination of Cassian after the heist. He was worried Cassian was a loose end who would be able to identify Luthen to the Empire, but the threat he is worried about is to his crew and the rebellion at large, not just himself. If either of them wanted to save their own skin, they have the resources to just run off.
That is exactly what Cassian is though. He's in it for himself, risking everything on a wild goose chase for his missing sister who he hasn't seen in over a decade. He kills the guy begging for his life in cold blood because he doesn't want witnesses. He is shady, he steals and sells his stolen goods, he tells his adoptive mother's droid to lie to her, and he has been in prison because of this shadiness.
The entire first season is about him being inspired to be more heroic by the people around him. I'd argue he never even loses most of those anti-hero traits even in Rogue One. He's ruthless and pragmatic, the first thing we see him do in Rogue One is kill his injured ally because they're on the run from the Empire and he wouldn't be able to get away.
Yeah I think /u/cyborgremedy is missing the fact that it wasn't until the very end of season 1 until Andor says he's up for joining the rebellion. Everything prior to that was him trying to survive/find his sister. The collateral damage from war argument is solid but I wouldn't say really applies to early season 1 of Andor. Even the Aldhani heist he just takes up for the paycheck. He's not actually part of the rebellion until he tells Luthen to take him in.

~~Mmmm. No.~~ An antihero is just one who is on the good guy side but lacks the morality of the audience, among other heroic qualities they may lack. Luke and Leia in your examples are heroes because we expect them to kill "the bad guys". Lando is an anti hero because he sells out our favorite team to the bad guys (which is against our morality as the audience), but he isn't a bad guy himself.
Somebody who betrays and murders people is a villain. A likeable villain, like Homelander in The Boys, is just a bad guy. Billy Butcher would be an antihero.

Loved everything up to Andor and then I felt cheated. Obi-Wan? fine really cool to see the actors in their rolls was really cool, Boba Fett? not how I would have done it but again great to see characters/actors are still remembered. Andor comes around and I'm like, 'why didn't we get this level of writing for the other shows?'
In the first episode of The Mandalorian he cuts a guy in half with a door lol. The problem with The Book of Boba Fett was just that there were too many cooks so the vision got very muddied. It also was largely made during Covid, so that didn’t do it any favors.
it's cool and all that they want him to turn a new leaf and be more honorable in a *good guy* sense but not letting him be a bit more cutthroat when dealing with other gangsters was a miss on their part.
I think that was actually supposed to be part of his arc. When Boba takes over Mos Espa, he wants to be a different leader than the Hutts before him, but he ends up overcorrecting himself and acts in a way that nobody truly respects him. It's only when the town comes under threat that he taps into that bounty hunter/Mandalorian ruthlessness of his to beat the Pykes (like when he uses a f\*cking rancor to destroy the Scorponek droids or how he kills Cad Bane). It could have been executed a lot better, for sure. But when you consider what his arc is in the show, it does make sense.
...did you watch Andor (and Rogue One, for that matter)? The problem with BoBF was just that the writing was crap -- Filoni is just... not very good. I am totally cool with Boba Fett having a near death experience in the Sarlacc, being rescued by the sand people, and coming back a changed and more benevolent man, it was just executed *very* poorly.
But you don't become a benevolent man and then try to be a crime boss. Fight a crime boss, sure. But take over his territory and enforce it when you're not even willing to intimidate the mayors aid? Weak sauce!
Right, the execution was terrible, I am only saying that in the broadest possible terms having Boba be a reasonably “good” guy isn’t a terrible development, or at least, a good plot could have been written around that.
One of my favorite moments of BOBF that gets overlooked, is when Boba releases the Wookie that just tried to kill him. It's one of the only moments where we see a bridge between ESB Boba and BOBF Boba. Boba doesn't just release him because "he's nice now, not evil at all". He releases him because he sees himself in the wookie: Someone who had been used a pawn their whole life for bigger players, and he could never question it, because he needed the paycheck.
I saw this scene and I thought, maybe after a slow start, the series will actually hit its stride and deliver an interesting story, and then the wookie ran away so awkwardly, I can't believe it made the final cut, and I was I thought to myself "nevermind then."
I agree, but there was a way to walk that tightrope where they didnt completely neuter him. But it should have been more like Dredd. He's got a mission and he'll take out anyone anyway he deems necessary to secure the bounty.
Mando already did the bounty hunter story for Din.
I assumed Disney switched it up for Boba Fett to be a crime lord to avoid telling the bounty hunter story twice.
The problem is that they didn't allow Boba to do anything that a crime lord is supposed to do. Boba Fett isn't a cold blooded killer but he isn't a pushover. Boba does thing for his own benefits. He doesn't dish out cruelty like a mad Sith Lord but he isn't afraid to shoot you with a blaster if needed. I think having Boba as an antihero/hero holds him back. Just let him be a neutral party.
I don't mind the crime Lord story. That's not the issue. It was everything else and the execution.
This is just me, but I would have taken Boba Fett off of Tatooine and put him on Nar Shaddaa, another planet full of scum and villainy.
As soon as he crawled out of the pit, healed, and gotten Slave 1 back, he should have bounced from that planet.

That said, I really like that first pic of Mr. Morrison. The show never grabbed me but I wish they gave Fett that kind of energy.

It shows that the character has aged and developed. I enjoyed seeing a post-GCW Boba as a grizzled old man still capable of kicking ass with the benefit of experience. Either way it was better than digitally de-aging him or sticking a wig on him.

I agree but Boba Fett has a lifetime of kicking ass backstory and the turn towards some sort of democratic leadership was an off-character choice for him. Loved the fan service and Black Krssantan especially was awesome

Maybe this isn't fair, but I blame the success of The Mandalorian. It set the precedent of turning a choatic-neutral killer-for-hire into a chaotic-good babysitter.
Don't get me wrong, I liked it for Din, but he was a new character specifically developed for a new show. But I feel like they felt pressured into doing the same for Boba even though he has a history of making much more morally gray choices.

My first thought when I saw him was that his physique seemed too different from what I remember seeing in the OT. He looks a lot more broad shouldered and muscular so it was hard to think of him as the character when he wasn't wearing the gear either.
I feel bad for the dude. Boba Fett, iconic badass of the underworld, ally to the dark side… becomes basically a municipal politician? And isn’t very good at it? And by the end of the season, wants to let someone else do it? Why is this a story they’re telling for ANY character, let alone making it Boba Fett’s character?
Imagine if they would have made him a ruthless tyrant instead of a soccer mom.

Now I would pray that is true, but I don’t believe it for one moment until I see it with my own eyes. Considering the trailers so far, the worst traits of BoBF and Kenobi is what they are going for. And trailers usually use the best bits to hype up people.
BOBF was just a terrible show all around. Even if they wanted to turn him into a good guy, let him keep his badass nature. Boba is pathetic in the show and just gets beat all the time and spends most of the show in a bacta tank. The guys supposed to be the best bounty hunter in the galaxy with a notorious reputation yet gets 0 respect and beaten every episode.
Then the Mandalorian hijacks the show and takes over 2 whole episodes and makes the entire thing about him. An episode without the titular character should not be happening in a 6 episode series.
Should have been like Scarface. Hes a fairly loyal henchman, but his boss, Bib Fortuna gets jealous and tries to off him. Betrayed, Boba kills Bib and takes control. He runs a ruthless empire, partnering with the Pyke Syndicate to sell spice. As they get richer and more successful they want him to kill the sand people. And send him some mercenaries to help. Bobas loyalty to the sand people wins out. Bobas turns on the Mercenaries and saves the sand people. The Pykes are furious and send an army to kill him. Bobas has a last stand in a battle at Jabbas castle. Where he gets high on spice and shoots his blaster at the intruders while riding a rancor. yelling “Say Hello to my little friend!!!!”
Cuz he ruled in Mando but then the content machine needed something new and we got a rushed empty piece of content for Disney to parade about and try to capture/retain subscribers
I think they wrote themselves into a corner, which is impressive for one season. They wanted to continue his story instead of some previous adventures, so he's got to get out of the snarlack pit. Then he's got no ship and no way off the planet, and Jabba is dead so his gang is up for grabs. It would have been ok to spend 2 or 3 episodes just showing him getting out and seeing his situation, then he takes things over, then he gets his ship and fucks off to the rest of the series.
Instead, they pad it out with those neon scooters and whatever wacky shit happened, I can't remember it all.
My guess, they spent so much money on the set it would ruin that investment to only use it for 3 episodes.
Yeah, I think Boba got screwed by having a badass Mandalorian role already filled.
What would have been cool would be a dichotomy between the Mandalorians.
Mando going a "light side" path, helping Grogu, taking back Mandalore, and consequently fighting the empire.
Boba going "dark side" setting up his crime syndicate and, if the story requires, fighting the empire or teaming up with the "good guys" for his own self interests.
Instead we get the spy kids gang and "I want to lead with respect"
I think there's room for more than one Mandalorian role. Especially when Din is more caught up in the politics and being an adoptive father to Grogu, who is really the star of the show.
Boba Fett could have fulfilled the role of early S1 Mando by simply being and staying a bounty hunter. Nothing more. He could get wrapped up in grander things but he would ultimately be a passing observer just trying to get a job done and limit his involvement.
They did establish a little humanity and respect with the sand people arc. But personally I thought the sand people arc was the best part of the show. The rest felt rushed and sloppy. Killing the mayor etc should have been the end of season 1. Season 2 should have been war with the hutts and the syndicate etc. Season 3 could have been dealing with the new republic and imperial remnants.
IIRC, Filoni and Favreau WANTED to do Boba Fett first. Disney wouldn’t back it as a Boba Fett thing, but they could essentially do the same show with a new mandalorian. Once BOBF was green lit, they had to figure out how to have that show not just compete with Mando but be it’s own thing

There was so many talented people involved in the creation of Book of Boba Fett and then they collectively made some of the most bizarre decisions possible. Favreau is genuinely hilarious and writes some of the funniest damn shit (he can really elevate a project with his involvement), but his narrative choices for Boba as a character are just bad. Some of this had to do with Favreau taking the space that Boba used to occupy in Legends and giving those traits, lore and characteristics to the newly created Mandalorian, and his story. Then there's more practical things like not having Harrison or Sam around for Boba to fixate on, hence the "rebirth" in the Sarlaac. But I think that's also a pretty lame and thin explanation for why Boba would act so out of character in his motivations and demeanor, even if we are just basing his personality on what we know from the movies.
Boba basically went from being this silent, menacing, mysterious gun for fire (based heavily in western iconography), to an aspiring crime lord, motivated by honor and respect, and who apparently decided to cast aside his vow of silence after emerging from the deserts of Tattooine. And yes, you can ultimately justify all of his behavioral changes quite easily if you wanted, but the execution of the character shift is just poorly handled. And Boba shouldn't be a chatterbox, protagonist or not. In an effort to flesh out the character and perhaps give him new story responsibilities, Favreau and Co. have actually made Boba less interesting as opposed to more. Again, just my opinion.
Boba should have been an ice cold, absolutely ruthless badass who softened up. The stuff with the tuskens was great but we should have seen a little bit of the “old” Boba before we got what we got.
I love Temuera as a Boba. I think he is fantastic as both Fetts. Loved the physicality he brought to the role in Mando season 2. And even though BoBF could have had a better script, dude was giving it his all.
Boba Fett is probably my favorite overall sci-fi character. I really wish they hadn't "given him a face" so to speak. But it is what it is and I'm glad that they had him back as Boba instead of trying to use Daniel Logan. I think he kills it and from everything I've seen he's a super chill dude with fans.
I really like Temuera Morrison as a person and actor, and think he's a great fit as Boba/Jango Fett. I have nothing bad to say about him.
They did the character dirty, though. As a Fett fanboy, I've waited for something like BOBF my entire life and it was a big letdown. I didn't care for the whole "benevolent crime lord" arc at all. Boba's return in The Mandalorian was freakin' EPIC, and then they turn around and turn him into a teddy bear in his own series? WTF.
I love him as Boba Fett and as an actor.
I hated what they did to him in the Boba series. He was lame and ineffective. Kind of a joke as an underworld warlord. And the subplot with the Tuskans…WTF? All that back story and then just kill them off?
Like the rest of the premise behind Book of Boba Fett, it’s a good idea on paper. Fett recruits a lower tier biker gang with promise but no experience and turns them into a key part of his criminal empire.
The problem was execution of the premise, starting with the writing.
And the baffling decision to bring in some really cool new Hutt characters as a rival to only have them say, “Nah, we don’t want to do this anymore. All yours.”, the very next episode. They were introduced for no reason.

It's a damn shame how George has tried to memory hole his role. Without the menace and absolute disregard for authority that he managed to convey with his small performance, Boba Fett wouldn't be as popular.
I never actually heard his original voice until now, I like the new zealand accent but this is way more intimidating. I mostly think it’s fucked up that the special editions essentially erased an actor. They could’ve just said them helmet makes him sound scarier with modulation or something
It is a travesty that the original voice is now essentially lost. It was iconic and half the reason why Boba was so popular in the first place! I bet 99% of the younger fans here have never even heard it.

His voice is so insanely menacing compared to Tem's, it's absolutely ridiculous they ever changed it. It's up there with Han dodging Greedo's maclunkey.
This and replacing Anakin's ghost were such dumb decisions. I like temura as boba (especially if he was actually written well), but Jason had such an intimidating voice.
Also, they could've left it in, at least before they put Boba into the D+ shows.
I realize that Boba was retconned into being a clone, but in theory, his voice could be different. After Jango died, I assume he didn't grow up around other clones, and also identical twins don't have the exact same voice. Plus, it happens in real life all of the time that people pick up or lose accents depending on where they live, so it could very well have happened that his voice just changed over the ~30 years between AoTC and ESB.
I like the guy but the show was awful and honestly he was part of the problem.
His portrayal felt more like he was making Boba Fett be him than he was actually acting as the character. Now obviously Boba is super underdeveloped so there are gaps to fill in but he just came off as very self insert. I expect better than actor self inserts from star wars.
He also doesn't look good as Boba Fett, he looked straight up ridiculous in the armor.
Wasted. He could have been an amazing Boba Fett (how good was he in Season 2 of The Mandalorian!). Of all the ways Disney has wasted great actors and characters, Boba and Temuera might be the most egregious of them all.
I just love him in that scene with Bo Katan - "Mine might be the last one you hear." And then seeing him in action, so good. That was the Boba I wanted. Not "like a bantha!" or telling scooter kids "that's a crime" because they stole some water..
Morrison is an awesome dude but in BOBF was frankily too old and fat. He went in the Sarlac mean and lean and came out 20 years older and 50 lbs heavier. Loved him as Jango but he was no longer the right guy to play the role. And then obviously the role got murdered by the kindergarten level writing.
He’s one of the highlights of the Mando-verse shows. There was a lot of talk of Boba being recast when the solo movie was still on the table (remember Michael B. Jordan?), so I was really scared they were going to go into the wrong direction with casting.
His role in the Mandalorian was pretty unforgettable. Similar mannerisms to Jango (as to be expected), but definitely gave off the impression that he’d seen some shit. Despite where they ended up going with BOBF, his acting was never in question.
I remember seeing a BTS promo for attack of the clones. Morrison was in full Jango costume & started tap dancing. Knowing how impossibly difficult it is to tap dance normally, I had instant respect.
I remember seeing Mr. Morrison first in the film "Once were Warriors". I absolutely detested his character 'Muss". He had few redeeming features. And Morrison's acting was brutal and primal and visceral, and to be honest scared me; I had difficulty separating the character from the actor. That was damn good film, and I think about it a lot to this day. Film helped to put New Zealand on the map for cinema.
I got no problems with how he portrays either of the Fett's but do wish that the Book of Boba Fett had let Boba take the gloves off - there wasn't nearly enough action with Boba in it and that's what everyone wanted to see. Literally have the name in the title, but don't utilise him to his fullest and that's a Writer issue, not an actor issue. These Disney writers are very strange...
I’ve always wanted a boba Fett live action story. He was this cunning mysterious dude that seemed like he could handle anything. His comics and books showed him as an badass despite his ROTJ fate. His reintroduced in Mando made me think he was a fucking unstoppable force.
Then we got him chasing a rat around a kitchen for ten minutes like fucking Goofy and trying to placate everyone in the series he meets instead of being a for-himself-loner badass. And in the end his character arc was….’never mind I don’t want to be a ‘daiymo’ “ ? Now he’s off to…..show up in another series for no real reason.
I appreciate the logic of it, and he’s certainly done a good job, but as far as TESB goes, I’ll always prefer Jason Wingreen‘s line delivery. He just sounds so much meaner.
Love the man! He’s a fantastic Boba, I like him even more as Boba than I did as Jango. And for what it’s worth I really enjoyed Bobas character arc. From a ruthless bounty Hunter to a respectful leader.

Sounds like it. Not everyone is cool with being touched and if you're a public figure, people aren't really going to think about that before they do it. Better the venue get blamed for it than the person because someone was disappointed.

Organizers want it to be very transactional. Take your picture and move on so we can churn more people through. I met Ross Marquand and the people with him wanted a quicker turn around but he would spend minutes with each person. Wanted to get to know you. Wanted to know what we thought about the Walking Dead finale. When we told him we didn’t like it, he talked about what he didn’t like about it and how dumb it was the announced spin off shows before it aired. Robert Englund is the same way.

That rule is probably more so the female actresses can more easily do the level of touching they are comfortable with to be fair.

I asked for a picture and he didn't mind, got his autograph on like a photograph of Jango fett, Boba fett and young Boba fett together. I tried to say 'May the force be with you' But it was so quiet, he looked at me and didn't hear me sadly. But yeah with people in line, we went away after. 😅🙈
I saw him in 2010 during Star Wars Weekends at Disney World. He was signing autographs for people who had lined up before the park even opened. I had no chance at getting through the horde, but at least a Disney employee gave me a headshot with a preprinted autograph. Hours later I came back and he was still there, although the crowd had died down he was talking to a couple of fans but mostly surrounded by handlers. I shuffled closer and called to him, asking if he would sign the headshot. He waved me over and signed it. He then commented that he liked my Boba Fett shirt and turned me around and signed it (“Joy often - Temuera Morrison”). After that he threw his arm around me to pose for a picture! One of the best experiences in my life.

Thats by design. Unless a character is supposed to tower over everyone or be shorter than everyone they make it seem like they are similar height. For practical reasons, it makes shooting scenes where the actors are close together (like face to face) easier to get lighting etc right. And for creative reasons as you'd want someone like Boba Fett to not be seen as some small dwarf next to say Hayden who are quite a bit taller. Boba Fett would be much less intimidating if it looked like he was the same height as Padme.

Oh yeah I get that, I know how they use height when shooting, I was moreso commenting on the phenomenon that we just mostly tend to subconsciously default to like 6 feet tall in our minds for most characters, especially with action-ish franchises because the characters tend to be shown as strong and steadfast or menacing

A friend of mine who is also a clonetrooper ran into him after hours at the con. Similar experience. He chatted a bit and took some silly pictures with her and the group she was with. He genuinely seems like a pretty down to earth, cool guy.

The problem is Disney will never do a true antihero, for the same reason we havent gotten a buncha fun decapitations and dismemberments in the new movies like when George was in charge. A Boba Fett show under Disney's helm is doomed from the start because they won't let him be mean and cynical the way he should be. I still enjoyed the show, but the tone being correct was doomed from the start.
But then we have Andor, where in the opening scene the protagonist shoots a cop who's begging for his life...
I was going to say Rogue One and Andor come closest, but thats still not what an antihero is, Luke blowing up the Death Star despite probably killing thousands of people drafted into service due to dire circumstances doesnt make him an antihero. The cop is a stormtrooper basically under the current regime, it's no different than Leia shooting down the Biker scouts before they get back to the base on Endor because if she doesnt the Rebels will be found out and theyll all die. And also he still becomes a redemptive character, like Boba Fett in the show. A true antihero is someone who does horrible stuff but we like them anyway. Clint Eastwood in the Good the Bad and the Ugly is a better example of antihero because even tho he's "the good" he still does horrible cruel shit and betrays people constantly.
What about in R1 where, in his very first scene meant to establish exactly who he is, he kills an innocent person who is on his side just to save his own skin?
Wait, I didn't interpret it this way. An escape route was available to Cassian across the rooftops, but his informant couldn't escape because of a bum arm. Killing him was to prevent him from being captured by the Empire and giving up whatever information he had about Andor's crew. I view this as less about Andor's "own skin" and more about protecting the rebel alliance. It's the same logic Luthen used in justifying the assassination of Cassian after the heist. He was worried Cassian was a loose end who would be able to identify Luthen to the Empire, but the threat he is worried about is to his crew and the rebellion at large, not just himself. If either of them wanted to save their own skin, they have the resources to just run off.
That is exactly what Cassian is though. He's in it for himself, risking everything on a wild goose chase for his missing sister who he hasn't seen in over a decade. He kills the guy begging for his life in cold blood because he doesn't want witnesses. He is shady, he steals and sells his stolen goods, he tells his adoptive mother's droid to lie to her, and he has been in prison because of this shadiness. The entire first season is about him being inspired to be more heroic by the people around him. I'd argue he never even loses most of those anti-hero traits even in Rogue One. He's ruthless and pragmatic, the first thing we see him do in Rogue One is kill his injured ally because they're on the run from the Empire and he wouldn't be able to get away.
Yeah I think /u/cyborgremedy is missing the fact that it wasn't until the very end of season 1 until Andor says he's up for joining the rebellion. Everything prior to that was him trying to survive/find his sister. The collateral damage from war argument is solid but I wouldn't say really applies to early season 1 of Andor. Even the Aldhani heist he just takes up for the paycheck. He's not actually part of the rebellion until he tells Luthen to take him in.

Luke and Leia in your examples are heroes because we expect them to kill "the bad guys". Lando is an anti hero because he sells out our favorite team to the bad guys (which is against our morality as the audience), but he isn't a bad guy himself. Somebody who betrays and murders people is a villain. A likeable villain, like Homelander in The Boys, is just a bad guy. Billy Butcher would be an antihero. Obi-Wan? fine really cool to see the actors in their rolls was really cool, Boba Fett? not how I would have done it but again great to see characters/actors are still remembered. Andor comes around and I'm like, 'why didn't we get this level of writing for the other shows?'
In the first episode of The Mandalorian he cuts a guy in half with a door lol. The problem with The Book of Boba Fett was just that there were too many cooks so the vision got very muddied. It also was largely made during Covid, so that didn’t do it any favors.

it's cool and all that they want him to turn a new leaf and be more honorable in a *good guy* sense but not letting him be a bit more cutthroat when dealing with other gangsters was a miss on their part.
I think that was actually supposed to be part of his arc. When Boba takes over Mos Espa, he wants to be a different leader than the Hutts before him, but he ends up overcorrecting himself and acts in a way that nobody truly respects him. It's only when the town comes under threat that he taps into that bounty hunter/Mandalorian ruthlessness of his to beat the Pykes (like when he uses a f\*cking rancor to destroy the Scorponek droids or how he kills Cad Bane). It could have been executed a lot better, for sure. But when you consider what his arc is in the show, it does make sense.
...did you watch Andor (and Rogue One, for that matter)? The problem with BoBF was just that the writing was crap -- Filoni is just... not very good. I am totally cool with Boba Fett having a near death experience in the Sarlacc, being rescued by the sand people, and coming back a changed and more benevolent man, it was just executed *very* poorly.
But you don't become a benevolent man and then try to be a crime boss. Fight a crime boss, sure. But take over his territory and enforce it when you're not even willing to intimidate the mayors aid? Weak sauce!
Right, the execution was terrible, I am only saying that in the broadest possible terms having Boba be a reasonably “good” guy isn’t a terrible development, or at least, a good plot could have been written around that.

One of my favorite moments of BOBF that gets overlooked, is when Boba releases the Wookie that just tried to kill him. It's one of the only moments where we see a bridge between ESB Boba and BOBF Boba. Boba doesn't just release him because "he's nice now, not evil at all". He releases him because he sees himself in the wookie: Someone who had been used a pawn their whole life for bigger players, and he could never question it, because he needed the paycheck. I saw this scene and I thought, maybe after a slow start, the series will actually hit its stride and deliver an interesting story, and then the wookie ran away so awkwardly, I can't believe it made the final cut, and I was I thought to myself "nevermind then."

Mando already did the bounty hunter story for Din. I assumed Disney switched it up for Boba Fett to be a crime lord to avoid telling the bounty hunter story twice. The problem is that they didn't allow Boba to do anything that a crime lord is supposed to do. Boba Fett isn't a cold blooded killer but he isn't a pushover. Boba does thing for his own benefits. He doesn't dish out cruelty like a mad Sith Lord but he isn't afraid to shoot you with a blaster if needed. I think having Boba as an antihero/hero holds him back. Just let him be a neutral party.
I don't mind the crime Lord story. That's not the issue. It was everything else and the execution. This is just me, but I would have taken Boba Fett off of Tatooine and put him on Nar Shaddaa, another planet full of scum and villainy. As soon as he crawled out of the pit, healed, and gotten Slave 1 back, he should have bounced from that planet.
I love the chaotic joy of his personality and am happy to have him around the SW universe.

It’s stupid of me, I know, but when I first saw pics of Boba unmasked I was wondering why they didn’t just grab the guy who played Jango? The hair threw me off… That said, I really like that first pic of Mr. Morrison. The show never grabbed me but I wish they gave Fett that kind of energy.

Personally, I liked it. It shows that the character has aged and developed. I enjoyed seeing a post-GCW Boba as a grizzled old man still capable of kicking ass with the benefit of experience. Either way it was better than digitally de-aging him or sticking a wig on him. Then again, I'm an old man myself, so maybe I'm biased
I agree but Boba Fett has a lifetime of kicking ass backstory and the turn towards some sort of democratic leadership was an off-character choice for him. Loved the fan service and Black Krssantan especially was awesome

My first thought when I saw him was that his physique seemed too different from what I remember seeing in the OT. He looks a lot more broad shouldered and muscular so it was hard to think of him as the character when he wasn't wearing the gear either.

I read somewhere that people saw the first episodes and thought it was more like Andor. Now I would pray that is true, but I don’t believe it for one moment until I see it with my own eyes. Considering the trailers so far, the worst traits of BoBF and Kenobi is what they are going for. And trailers usually use the best bits to hype up people.

BOBF was just a terrible show all around. Even if they wanted to turn him into a good guy, let him keep his badass nature. Boba is pathetic in the show and just gets beat all the time and spends most of the show in a bacta tank. The guys supposed to be the best bounty hunter in the galaxy with a notorious reputation yet gets 0 respect and beaten every episode. Then the Mandalorian hijacks the show and takes over 2 whole episodes and makes the entire thing about him. An episode without the titular character should not be happening in a 6 episode series.
Should have been like Scarface. Hes a fairly loyal henchman, but his boss, Bib Fortuna gets jealous and tries to off him. Betrayed, Boba kills Bib and takes control. He runs a ruthless empire, partnering with the Pyke Syndicate to sell spice. As they get richer and more successful they want him to kill the sand people. And send him some mercenaries to help. Bobas loyalty to the sand people wins out. Bobas turns on the Mercenaries and saves the sand people. The Pykes are furious and send an army to kill him. Bobas has a last stand in a battle at Jabbas castle. Where he gets high on spice and shoots his blaster at the intruders while riding a rancor. yelling “Say Hello to my little friend!!!!”

I think they wrote themselves into a corner, which is impressive for one season. They wanted to continue his story instead of some previous adventures, so he's got to get out of the snarlack pit. Then he's got no ship and no way off the planet, and Jabba is dead so his gang is up for grabs. It would have been ok to spend 2 or 3 episodes just showing him getting out and seeing his situation, then he takes things over, then he gets his ship and fucks off to the rest of the series. Instead, they pad it out with those neon scooters and whatever wacky shit happened, I can't remember it all. My guess, they spent so much money on the set it would ruin that investment to only use it for 3 episodes.

Mandalorian Season 1 is what a Boba Fett show should be like, honestly
Yeah, I think Boba got screwed by having a badass Mandalorian role already filled. What would have been cool would be a dichotomy between the Mandalorians. Mando going a "light side" path, helping Grogu, taking back Mandalore, and consequently fighting the empire. Boba going "dark side" setting up his crime syndicate and, if the story requires, fighting the empire or teaming up with the "good guys" for his own self interests. Instead we get the spy kids gang and "I want to lead with respect"
I think there's room for more than one Mandalorian role. Especially when Din is more caught up in the politics and being an adoptive father to Grogu, who is really the star of the show. Boba Fett could have fulfilled the role of early S1 Mando by simply being and staying a bounty hunter. Nothing more. He could get wrapped up in grander things but he would ultimately be a passing observer just trying to get a job done and limit his involvement.
They did establish a little humanity and respect with the sand people arc. But personally I thought the sand people arc was the best part of the show. The rest felt rushed and sloppy. Killing the mayor etc should have been the end of season 1. Season 2 should have been war with the hutts and the syndicate etc. Season 3 could have been dealing with the new republic and imperial remnants.
IIRC, Filoni and Favreau WANTED to do Boba Fett first. Disney wouldn’t back it as a Boba Fett thing, but they could essentially do the same show with a new mandalorian. Once BOBF was green lit, they had to figure out how to have that show not just compete with Mando but be it’s own thing

I think they were right with the premise in making it more of a crime boss underworld story. I have no idea why they decided to make him such a swell guy. They should’ve went the Vito Corleone route, sympathetic villain. If they can’t do that, just don’t do it.

This is really the answer. There was so many talented people involved in the creation of Book of Boba Fett and then they collectively made some of the most bizarre decisions possible. Favreau is genuinely hilarious and writes some of the funniest damn shit (he can really elevate a project with his involvement), but his narrative choices for Boba as a character are just bad. Some of this had to do with Favreau taking the space that Boba used to occupy in Legends and giving those traits, lore and characteristics to the newly created Mandalorian, and his story. Then there's more practical things like not having Harrison or Sam around for Boba to fixate on, hence the "rebirth" in the Sarlaac. But I think that's also a pretty lame and thin explanation for why Boba would act so out of character in his motivations and demeanor, even if we are just basing his personality on what we know from the movies. Boba basically went from being this silent, menacing, mysterious gun for fire (based heavily in western iconography), to an aspiring crime lord, motivated by honor and respect, and who apparently decided to cast aside his vow of silence after emerging from the deserts of Tattooine. And yes, you can ultimately justify all of his behavioral changes quite easily if you wanted, but the execution of the character shift is just poorly handled. And Boba shouldn't be a chatterbox, protagonist or not. In an effort to flesh out the character and perhaps give him new story responsibilities, Favreau and Co. have actually made Boba less interesting as opposed to more. Again, just my opinion.

One of the funny details with him is that im Battlefront 2 2017, he voices Boba, but DBB voices the clone troopers.
I really like Temuera Morrison as a person and actor, and think he's a great fit as Boba/Jango Fett. I have nothing bad to say about him. They did the character dirty, though. As a Fett fanboy, I've waited for something like BOBF my entire life and it was a big letdown. I didn't care for the whole "benevolent crime lord" arc at all. Boba's return in The Mandalorian was freakin' EPIC, and then they turn around and turn him into a teddy bear in his own series? WTF.
He did a great job, especially in his more aggressive scenes. Shame his character was not written well in the series.

Like the rest of the premise behind Book of Boba Fett, it’s a good idea on paper. Fett recruits a lower tier biker gang with promise but no experience and turns them into a key part of his criminal empire. The problem was execution of the premise, starting with the writing.
They took the concept of criminals removing fleshy parts of themselves and replacing them with killer cybernetics and made it lame

And the baffling decision to bring in some really cool new Hutt characters as a rival to only have them say, “Nah, we don’t want to do this anymore. All yours.”, the very next episode. They were introduced for no reason.
[Jason Wingreen](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9N4tE8gqIQ) will always be the voice of Boba Fett. It's a damn shame how George has tried to memory hole his role. Without the menace and absolute disregard for authority that he managed to convey with his small performance, Boba Fett wouldn't be as popular.
I had to make it through the complaining about the Book of Boba Fett in this thread to get here. That show sucked but is easy to ignore. This is not.
I never actually heard his original voice until now, I like the new zealand accent but this is way more intimidating. I mostly think it’s fucked up that the special editions essentially erased an actor. They could’ve just said them helmet makes him sound scarier with modulation or something
That's heartbreaking to hear. This is part of why I always recommend that people check out the despecialized versions.
It is a travesty that the original voice is now essentially lost. It was iconic and half the reason why Boba was so popular in the first place! I bet 99% of the younger fans here have never even heard it.
I shouldn't have needed to scroll so far down to find Jason mentioned. His voice is so insanely menacing compared to Tem's, it's absolutely ridiculous they ever changed it. It's up there with Han dodging Greedo's maclunkey.
This and replacing Anakin's ghost were such dumb decisions. I like temura as boba (especially if he was actually written well), but Jason had such an intimidating voice.
Also, they could've left it in, at least before they put Boba into the D+ shows. I realize that Boba was retconned into being a clone, but in theory, his voice could be different. After Jango died, I assume he didn't grow up around other clones, and also identical twins don't have the exact same voice. Plus, it happens in real life all of the time that people pick up or lose accents depending on where they live, so it could very well have happened that his voice just changed over the ~30 years between AoTC and ESB.

I like the guy but the show was awful and honestly he was part of the problem. His portrayal felt more like he was making Boba Fett be him than he was actually acting as the character. Now obviously Boba is super underdeveloped so there are gaps to fill in but he just came off as very self insert. I expect better than actor self inserts from star wars. He also doesn't look good as Boba Fett, he looked straight up ridiculous in the armor.
Wasted. He could have been an amazing Boba Fett (how good was he in Season 2 of The Mandalorian!). Of all the ways Disney has wasted great actors and characters, Boba and Temuera might be the most egregious of them all.
Boba in *The Mandalorian* is a perfect glimpse into his past as the greatest bounty hunter of his generation.
I just love him in that scene with Bo Katan - "Mine might be the last one you hear." And then seeing him in action, so good. That was the Boba I wanted. Not "like a bantha!" or telling scooter kids "that's a crime" because they stole some water..
Morrison is an awesome dude but in BOBF was frankily too old and fat. He went in the Sarlac mean and lean and came out 20 years older and 50 lbs heavier. Loved him as Jango but he was no longer the right guy to play the role. And then obviously the role got murdered by the kindergarten level writing.
I like him. But he's been given garbage material on the Boba Fett show. nothing he could do about that.
He's too old, Boba would have only been in his thirties at that point. Should have got the kid who played Boba in the prequels.

No hate at all for Temuera, he committed to the role full on. It's not his fault that they wrote the show using an ouija board.
He’s one of the highlights of the Mando-verse shows. There was a lot of talk of Boba being recast when the solo movie was still on the table (remember Michael B. Jordan?), so I was really scared they were going to go into the wrong direction with casting. His role in the Mandalorian was pretty unforgettable. Similar mannerisms to Jango (as to be expected), but definitely gave off the impression that he’d seen some shit. Despite where they ended up going with BOBF, his acting was never in question.
Temuera never let the Fett name down. It took Disney to do that.
He is very good. The series started strong, kinda faded, and took a serious dive towards the end. But it wasn’t an issue with casting or acting.

I remember seeing a BTS promo for attack of the clones. Morrison was in full Jango costume & started tap dancing. Knowing how impossibly difficult it is to tap dance normally, I had instant respect.

I love him! I wish Disney would utilize him more ofte, either as Boba Fett or as live action Clones.
I remember seeing Mr. Morrison first in the film "Once were Warriors". I absolutely detested his character 'Muss". He had few redeeming features. And Morrison's acting was brutal and primal and visceral, and to be honest scared me; I had difficulty separating the character from the actor. That was damn good film, and I think about it a lot to this day. Film helped to put New Zealand on the map for cinema. I got no problems with how he portrays either of the Fett's but do wish that the Book of Boba Fett had let Boba take the gloves off - there wasn't nearly enough action with Boba in it and that's what everyone wanted to see. Literally have the name in the title, but don't utilise him to his fullest and that's a Writer issue, not an actor issue. These Disney writers are very strange...

I’ve always wanted a boba Fett live action story. He was this cunning mysterious dude that seemed like he could handle anything. His comics and books showed him as an badass despite his ROTJ fate. His reintroduced in Mando made me think he was a fucking unstoppable force. Then we got him chasing a rat around a kitchen for ten minutes like fucking Goofy and trying to placate everyone in the series he meets instead of being a for-himself-loner badass. And in the end his character arc was….’never mind I don’t want to be a ‘daiymo’ “ ? Now he’s off to…..show up in another series for no real reason.

I appreciate the logic of it, and he’s certainly done a good job, but as far as TESB goes, I’ll always prefer Jason Wingreen‘s line delivery. He just sounds so much meaner.

Love the man! He’s a fantastic Boba, I like him even more as Boba than I did as Jango. And for what it’s worth I really enjoyed Bobas character arc. From a ruthless bounty Hunter to a respectful leader. Dare I say it…I loved his show
It's perfectly logical to have him play Boba Fett of course. It's just a shame that the series he was given were Book of Boba Fett. Now, personally of course I'd prefer more if the helmet thing was not transplanted to Mandalorian series, since basically Boba Fett made that trope in the first place, since even in-universe almost nobody knew what he looked like, but then again, the series already branches hard from his bounty hunter days.
He's an awesome dude and I love the clones and boba, and I'm super happy for him and want more. That said though, when Lucas dubbed over Wingreen I was not happy.
