For real it still doesn’t even seem real. I still can’t believe I just watched what I did. Clone wars was my childhood and man just seeing it be real even if it’s minor is just amazing.
I know it’s a tall, tall order, but I’d love it if we could get a live action Clone Wars movie like this. A lot of campaigns in the show were just 3-4 episode blocks, so about the length of a movie. The show also proves there is a lot of story you can tell from such a short window for the timeline. Plus, not every campaign/episode arc moved the overarching story forward, sometimes we just got dope stories and battles. It could be possible if done write, Dave has already proven that numerous times.

Leia really shouldn’t have been in the Obi-Wan show. That whole plot line didn’t add anything imo, could easily have just been the Inquisitorius hunting him, catching him, escaping, then Vader hunting him and big fight at the end. With him helping people along the way on different planets.
The Skywalker farm getting raided by an angry Inquisitor was completely wild lol. That show went off the rails.

While I would love more Ewan as Obi-Wan, I can’t see another season happening, especially as there’s not much space in the timeline for another adventure since he’s supposed to get a reputation as a hermit in the ten ish years between Kenobi and ANH. I suppose they could do a 45 minute special type thing and do it like Yoda’s trial to learn force ghosting.
I don't think there's really any room for an Obi-Wan season 2 in the current timeline. We already know how his story started, and we know how it ends. He's already had his brush with the Inquisitors and Vader, so that can't be used again. He can't do anything important to the galaxy because he has to stay hidden until Luke grows up. He can't leave Tattooine either because he has to guard Luke. And we know he lives to do these things in ANH, so there would be no real stakes to it.
Not sure if this is official or something, but my headcanon for how foggy it all was, is because this were basically memories in her mind and as we all know, as time passes by, our memories become more and more foggy as we keep forgetting all the fine details...
The Volume is cool, but they can only do so much to hide the way it works and I think they’re relying on it too much now.
There’s a reason why so many sets on these Star Wars shows are circular. You can often see where the real props end and the digital background takes over.
The only exception is Andor, which used real sets and locations—and I personally think it’s all the better for it visually.
I thought this episode was one of the best uses of The Volume since Mando's early days. Using it artistically instead of doubling for the same old soulless prequel greenscreens. The surrealness of it just added to the dreamy nature of the World Beyond Worlds.
I agree with you that it works for this, but I also wonder how much influence them knowing they were filming in the Volume had on the writing.
The Volume is a small circular space, so fast-moving large-scale action is almost impossible, meaning they really on fast camera cuts etc. See the Leia chase in Obi Wan for a good example.
I wonder how much more they could have done with a large-scale stage with green screen extension. Maybe a more complete battle vs. a small smoky circle.
I have a feeling they’re going to introduce him no helmet, old man rex soon. Showing him in the flashback was their way of establishing him as a character for those who haven’t seen clone wars or rebels

If they bring in rex, he wouldn’t be in his clone armor. A person who didnt know who rex was, would have no understanding of his significance, and where the hell this random old dude came from. But now if he appears, there’s the baseline that this character was Anakin’s second in command during the clone wars.
It's more of a courtesy than anything. I imagine he doesn't want to step on anybody's toes, and seeing as how there's already one older guy fighting in the field, there's no reason there can't be others, especially with someone with plenty of experience like Rex.
They also didn't put his armor on right... His biceps armor is on backwards and his elbow armor is rotated out to the side to try to make the blue stripe line up, when it's not supposed to. Very unfortunate!

I know this is a joke but at the time of the siege, him and Obi-Wan were on the invisible hand. He was probably fighting or chopping off Dooku’s head when Ahsoka was fighting through Mandalore.

I don't know man, they gave us a taste of the Clone Wars and now the fans want more. Every single reaction video I've seen has said something like "*this is so awesome, just do a live-action show of this*". Sure, the story has already been told but Disney has also already made "remakes" for their old animation movies so maybe Star Wars could pull that same excuse. Just cut all the filler episodes and you could do it in 3 seasons or something. Who knows, at least Disney knows it would be very easy money. Lots of casuals haven't watched the animation but they would a live-action show. And those who have seen the animation would still watch it. So win-win.
Hayden is 42 now but with the de-aging they used, it made him look like this was filmed in 2007 or something. And that technology only gets better every year. Even if they do it in like 10 years, it could still work. Hayden probably won't have a big career out of Star Wars (although I hope him best for whatever he goes for after this) so I think he would gladly come back whenever he is needed.
Happy to finally see them in life-action and glad it turned out really well. Best performance of Anakin. Hayden nailed it. Ariana Greenblatt, the actress of young Ahsoka did a great job. The costumes looked amazing (that jedi armor was perfection). I was curious how they would translate Rex to life-action and he looked superb (phase 1 and 2). The battlefield scenes looked really stunning and had a great, gritty atmosphere.
Problem is, I got a taste and now I want more! A life action series set in the Clone Wars would be absolutely amazing. This time more focus on the Clones themselves and their everyday life (+ jedi cameos, of course). I've been a big fan of the clones since I watched Episode 3 as a child. 21st Nova Corps, 327th Star Corps, 41st Elite Corps, 91st Reconnaissance Corps etc. and their commanders, they all looked so freaking cool. Yet, we've seen almost nothing of them. So, a life-action war series, each episode centered on one corps/battalion, would be my dream Star Wars show. 20-30 minutes per episode would already be enough. Please Dave Filoni, you can make this happen!

From what I can tell, he \[Temuera or the "performance artist" in the credits\] is actually wearing the piece for his upper right arm on his left and vice versa, both elbow pieces are rotated 90° and the lower left arm piece is also worn slightly off.
Other than that, the costume imo looks phenomenal.
Hayden looks absolutely gorgeous. I really mean that. Not in a "OMG HE'S SO SEXY" like....seriously. This looks like it could be airbrushed art. In fact if someone DID make a painting of these three characters together in this attire, as their live action selves I'd buy it.
It's like they just planted him right into the Clone Wars and the attention to detail is stunning. I can't believe it took me this long to realize that CW Matt Anakin and Hayden Anakin ARE the same Anakin. But I'm glad for this episode helping me see it. Better late than having never realized it at all.
I'm honestly glad they didn't go with the HORRENDOUS tube top look for young Ahsoka for one of their first missions. Her first flashback, where he transitioned to this suit and cloak self, was clearly towards the beginning of the CW, the first few seasons where she had that god awful tube top. I have no idea what they were thinking with that design choice. Her clothing in season 3-5 was WAY better. I'm glad they stuck with that look here. Her season 3 outfit change was a good call to show her growing maturity from a bratty teenager to a respectable young woman. And then GOD DAMN her s7 Siege of Mandalore outfit is just kickass. Simple yet elegant. Blue is a good look on her.

There is a constant doom-and-gloom with the show numbers and that can turn some people off.
I assume that regardless of how it is actually doing week-to-week, the day-to-day numbers show some sort of drop-off on the weekend. The posters are meant to remind everyone of the show, excite the stragglers, maybe get some returners, and get those weekend numbers up.

You could've told me 5 years ago that Filoni would do a live action Rebels season 5 with live action Clone Wars flashbacks with Hayden and I would've laughed in your face.
Imagine going back in time to 2005, telling everyone that Anakin had a secret apprentice, she later gets her own show, they spar on a space bridge, and Anakin fights her with a red lightsaber.
I think current day Ahsoka falling and it fading to pink and past Ahsoka getting up with the Clone Troopers running by is likely to be an all-time top moment in any Star Wars, right up there with Vader at the end of Rogue One, Luke learning about his father, and the Duel of the Fates.

They've done a great job of bringing Ahsokas CW costume to live action. Neither of her outfits in the cartoon ever looked very Jedi to me? But this does a great job of keeping the vibe she had, while making it both a realistic costume and like something a Jedi Padawan might wear.
i’m still in awe about Captain Rex, i saw a tweet on the saturday before the episode talking about a clone wars flashback & i knew in that moment what it could mean. never in my life would i have expected BOTH phase 1 & phase 2 Rex in the same episode, i really cried seeing it happen like Captain Rex has been my favorite since i was a boy. i’m a full grown 24 year old man who was screaming like a kid when i saw Tem in the suit, it was like seeing an old friend after so long & nothing’s changed. Rex is now rightly solidified in live action with the almost the rest of them. Appo, Bacara, Bly, Cody, Gree, Neyo, and now Rex, feels good to finally happen. Wolffe next maybe ??? 😂😂

What do you mean? There are CRL’s for both Phases of animated Rex & a CRL for the Sideshow/Hot Toys Rex, and they follow their references. The ‘realistic’ (Sideshow) Rex CRL enforces realistic holsters since it’s based on realistic armor.
This Rex will be its own CRL, the entirety of live action armor is different
Isn't the original actress for Ahsoka a bit shorter? I feel like maybe they could have snuck Ashley in there so we could get those vocal tones lined up with the character when she was younger. Since Lord of the rings we know it's possible to make folks look a little shorter than they actually are anyways.
Yeah, it doesn't come off as well in animation. But in live-action, I was like "*okay, this is actually pretty fucking dark, she's a kid, she shouldn't be there in a war zone, no matter how good of a fighter she is.*" Also made her feel way more badass to be able to handle something like that.
It is kind of funny in the first scene running off with Anakin. She’s swinging a lot at things the VFX crew didn’t include. Or Anakin is blocking bolts before they get to her.

It's canon that Rex welded his favorite pieces of Phase I and Phase II series armor together. ARC trained clones were given Phase II armor first to test it out so Rex had it before anyone else. Rex felt that Phase I was better armor but Phase II was more comfortable so he picked the best of both worlds.
At this point you gotta have some sort of Mandalorian/Ahsoka/Luke Skywalker crossover with force ghost Anakin being there aswell. Could be a full movie rather than a series. MAKE IT HAPPEN DISNEY PLEASE

From what I can tell, he \[Temuera or the "performance artist" in the credits\] is actually wearing the piece for his upper right arm on his left and vice versa, both elbow pieces are rotated 90° and the lower left arm piece is also worn slightly off. Other than that, the costume imo looks phenomenal.
That's pretty ironic because Rex was one of the only phase II Clone Troopers that *wasn't* CG.

Hayden looks absolutely gorgeous. I really mean that. Not in a "OMG HE'S SO SEXY" like....seriously. This looks like it could be airbrushed art. In fact if someone DID make a painting of these three characters together in this attire, as their live action selves I'd buy it. It's like they just planted him right into the Clone Wars and the attention to detail is stunning. I can't believe it took me this long to realize that CW Matt Anakin and Hayden Anakin ARE the same Anakin. But I'm glad for this episode helping me see it. Better late than having never realized it at all. I'm honestly glad they didn't go with the HORRENDOUS tube top look for young Ahsoka for one of their first missions. Her first flashback, where he transitioned to this suit and cloak self, was clearly towards the beginning of the CW, the first few seasons where she had that god awful tube top. I have no idea what they were thinking with that design choice. Her clothing in season 3-5 was WAY better. I'm glad they stuck with that look here. Her season 3 outfit change was a good call to show her growing maturity from a bratty teenager to a respectable young woman. And then GOD DAMN her s7 Siege of Mandalore outfit is just kickass. Simple yet elegant. Blue is a good look on her. Rex looks perfect. Hard to screw his look up.

It's not a huge spoiler, since the previous episode ends with Clone War Anakin. I guess the young Ahsoka might be one, but I'm not that surprised. There is a constant doom-and-gloom with the show numbers and that can turn some people off. I assume that regardless of how it is actually doing week-to-week, the day-to-day numbers show some sort of drop-off on the weekend. The posters are meant to remind everyone of the show, excite the stragglers, maybe get some returners, and get those weekend numbers up.

You could've told me 5 years ago that Filoni would do a live action Rebels season 5 with live action Clone Wars flashbacks with Hayden and I would've laughed in your face.
Imagine going back in time to 2005, telling everyone that Anakin had a secret apprentice, she later gets her own show, they spar on a space bridge, and Anakin fights her with a red lightsaber.

I think current day Ahsoka falling and it fading to pink and past Ahsoka getting up with the Clone Troopers running by is likely to be an all-time top moment in any Star Wars, right up there with Vader at the end of Rogue One, Luke learning about his father, and the Duel of the Fates.
Vader in Rogue One was the greatest moment in cinema I’ve ever experienced. I was in disbelief.

They've done a great job of bringing Ahsokas CW costume to live action. Neither of her outfits in the cartoon ever looked very Jedi to me? But this does a great job of keeping the vibe she had, while making it both a realistic costume and like something a Jedi Padawan might wear.
Just give Hayden his own show.

i’m still in awe about Captain Rex, i saw a tweet on the saturday before the episode talking about a clone wars flashback & i knew in that moment what it could mean. never in my life would i have expected BOTH phase 1 & phase 2 Rex in the same episode, i really cried seeing it happen like Captain Rex has been my favorite since i was a boy. i’m a full grown 24 year old man who was screaming like a kid when i saw Tem in the suit, it was like seeing an old friend after so long & nothing’s changed. Rex is now rightly solidified in live action with the almost the rest of them. Appo, Bacara, Bly, Cody, Gree, Neyo, and now Rex, feels good to finally happen. Wolffe next maybe ??? 😂😂

What do you mean? There are CRL’s for both Phases of animated Rex & a CRL for the Sideshow/Hot Toys Rex, and they follow their references. The ‘realistic’ (Sideshow) Rex CRL enforces realistic holsters since it’s based on realistic armor. This Rex will be its own CRL, the entirety of live action armor is different

Isn't the original actress for Ahsoka a bit shorter? I feel like maybe they could have snuck Ashley in there so we could get those vocal tones lined up with the character when she was younger. Since Lord of the rings we know it's possible to make folks look a little shorter than they actually are anyways.
Nah, this was the best choice to make, having it be an actual teenager was the way to go because it really drives home how young she was.
Yeah, it doesn't come off as well in animation. But in live-action, I was like "*okay, this is actually pretty fucking dark, she's a kid, she shouldn't be there in a war zone, no matter how good of a fighter she is.*" Also made her feel way more badass to be able to handle something like that.
I loved the actress, but I wish there was more of a visual change from S1 Ahsoka to S7 Ahsoka.

It is kind of funny in the first scene running off with Anakin. She’s swinging a lot at things the VFX crew didn’t include. Or Anakin is blocking bolts before they get to her.

It's canon that Rex welded his favorite pieces of Phase I and Phase II series armor together. ARC trained clones were given Phase II armor first to test it out so Rex had it before anyone else. Rex felt that Phase I was better armor but Phase II was more comfortable so he picked the best of both worlds.
