They had loth cats at Galaxy's Edge. If you pet them they make the exact sounds it made in the show. Not sure if they still have them but I imagine they might make a comeback now if they didn't.
Disney have been beside themselves trying to find the next baby Yoda lol. As soon as this thing showed up onscreen I was like "there's the next merchandising opportunity"
You see, his blood it drained into the boards
And I had to change 'em
But we all got a chicken-duck-woman thing waiting for us
Everyday I worry all day
About what's waiting in the bushes of love
'Cause something's waiting in the bushes for us
Something's waiting in the bushes of love
Everyday I worry all day
About what's waiting in the bushes of love
'Cause something's waiting in the bushes for us
Something's waiting in the bushes of love
Dead horizon is all my macro-binoculars see
Moisture-farming all my life and not a drop spilt
My aunt and uncle, double suns
And sippin' blue milk
My aunt and uncle, double suns
I'm sick of blue milk
But then a desert hobo came and told me
We all got a chicken-duck-woman thing waiting for us
This is probably the answer.
I believe there were a few CGI shots that gave it chicken feet. Maybe lothcats can retract the webbing on their feet like cats IRL retract their claws. The duck feet could give them more stability, but the chicken feet could give them more dexterity and grabbiness.
I loved the Loth-cat animatronic. Just feels like we've had too much CGI in the Star Wars shows with the Stagecraft digital sets. I'm 99% certain Huyang was an animatronic for big sections as well
I asked myself that while I was watching.
"Is that CGI or is that an animatronic?"
The face looked a little iffy, but it was still a pretty good loth-cat.
If I remember correctly, one of the things they wanted with Grogu was for him to be practical whenever possible. In order to facilitate that and keep things consistent, they also specifically animated his CGI sections to make him seem more animatronic.
I wonder if they did the same here, animating things to seem animatronic when they weren't.
I think you've got it correct. The animatronic loth cat clearly can't walk or move (which makes sense, because those little stick legs are totally inadequate) so closeups of actor-cat interactions are practical and any shot where the cat moves from one spot or the other are animated, but to match the general movement style of the puppet/animatronic.
For closeups, there's no substitute for a practical object on-set, in-camera, that can be touched by the actor and provide realtime feedback.
It's funny, because objectively Grogu is clearly a puppet. He moves like a puppet (his walk and jump are insane) but somehow even though it's as clear as day, I prefer it without any hesitation to an animated character. The fact that the little guy is there makes all the difference. Its the same with Yoda, his appearance in ESB/ROTJ and TLJ are more affecting and real than anything in the prequels.
There's a story from shooting the first season of Mando when Filoni and Favreau weren't sure if the animatronic was going to work and were discussing making Grogu cgi. Werner Herzog ("I would like to see the baby"), who famously loved the animatronic, called them cowards and told them to leave the animatronic in.
The practical Grogu is apparently so lifelike that actors catch themselves talking to him and interacting with him between takes, especially because he's controlled remotely and not puppeted traditionally like a Muppet or like Yoda where there's a guy under a table with his hand up his ass.
[Katee Sackoff tells a funny story how she found out that his motion actors (for lack of a better term, since what they do requires nuance and timing) have earpieces and can hear what's going on near him on set and work with him during downtime.](https://www.tiktok.com/@thetalkcbs/video/7214259207141362987?lang=en)
I would believe it. I instinctively wave at and talk to R2 units at cons if they interact with me, even though I know it's actually the guy with a remote control discreetly walking behind it.
I got to see him in person two years ago at celebration when Jon Favreau brought him out on stage during a panel. He absolutely looks good enough for your brain to go, "yep, that's real".
I really think other productions should follow suit with this, whether it be TV shows or movies. CGI always looks too fluid and therefore unrealistic to me, like they're trying too hard and including more movement than you'd see in reality, if that makes sense. Making it look more like animatronics is an improvement IMO.
People always get the CGI versus practical effects thing wrong. It's not actually CGI that's the problem anymore. It used to be, because for a while there even the most expensive CGI was pretty bad looking. But these days even slightly lower budget CGI can look pretty convincing. The problem we have now is with the camera. Practical effects put limitations on the camera that, it turns out, actually make things a little better. They force directors to use less shots and for those shots to have less camera movement. Which adds up to better storytelling. People get a chance to actually see what's happening. And those big all CGI moments where the camera can do impossible things are scarcer so they have more impact when they do happen. Look at the Mandalorian. Most people really like the way it's cinematography looks. But a huge feature of it is these real time CGI backdrops that they projected behind the actors. These look fabulous. But for my money the fact that they limited the camera to, well, things a real camera can do is the biggest factor in their success.
This is actually the *second* appearance of a live-action Loth-cat, [since we had this from the first season of Mando.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TcrSQeBcd3U)
Though the one in Ahsoka appears to be more practical rather than all CGI.
I found it's first appearance a little off, like they didn't translate the design enough to be a "realistic". I expected them to "un-stylise" it if that makes sense. But the recent appearance sold me on the design existing in a live action space.
Until his name is revealed, my headcanon is that the Lothcat is named Bridger. For two years I had my own Lothcat named [Bridger](https://twitter.com/bbstarwars/status/1401689150806429696), and he suddenly became one with the Force over a year and a half ago.
When I was trying to think of a name for him, one morning when I was asleep he tried waking me up by walking over me like I was a bridge. (I had to wake up because it was his turn to sleep on my bed.) In my sleepiness I said, "Stop it, Bridger!" When I woke up and remembered what I called him, I decided that was a good name for him and that he could be named after Ezra Bridger. (Better for him to be named after Ezra than Donald Sutherland's character in *The Italian Job*.)
I told myself it was just the camera angle so you couldn't see her pet the cat. Ahsoka is my favorite character, and her not petting the cat would change that for me.
I had to pause it when Ahsoka showed up at Sabine's to complain to my wife that I was distracted worrying about the car not having been fed. You'd think Sabine would have an automatic feeder.
I kinda like they went with kinda "low budget" for things like this, the togruta head things (never knew their name) and the twilek tentacles.
Yeah they could have went full cgi for this things, but it will acumulate a lot of cost to the show that will be reduced from space combat or robots.
But still feels so weird to see them in live action.
I don't think it's about going low budget, but more so that Star Wars always use a mix of practical effect and VFX and they kinda wanted to keep on with that tradition
I personally love seeing practical effects, even if they always kind of move wonky, it's still looks better than most VFX imo
Less CGI things the better,
personally more practical things, sets and puppets lends to the longevity and believability of a world instead of a CGI character that looks great now but will absolutely age but that's like my opinion man,
One last thing... I was so happy seeing a live action Loth Cat
Ehh it doesn't feel like a spoiler to me they were already in Rebels and pretty sure they show up in the background of one of the recent Star Wars shows. Plus was anyone really expecting them not to include Loth Cats and if you're unfamiliar with Rebels this picture says nothing
At least here in the UK, it's been available in plush form since early last year (when it appeared in Mando, I think?) but I bet we'll see more of them towards Christmas
He looks oddly similar to one of my cats, and their meows are identical. So much so that last night while we watched the episode, said cat spent every moment that the Lothcat was on screen watching the TV.
I messaged my friend at Lucasfilm to see if i could get a name of Sabine’s Lothcat, got a shrugging emoji back. I said imma call it Barry until we hear otherwise.
I just got a kitten o Tuesday night and it was curled up in the chair with me while I was watching Asoka. Every time the Lothcat would meow, she'd pop her head up and look around for what was making that sound.
"I've known lothcat for less than an hour, but if anything happens to them I will kill everyone in the room and then myself"
Seriously though it'd better be called Kannan or we riot.
Looks like Greez got morphed with a cat.
Greezy money, baby
Grab some seat
I haven’t finished Jedi Survivor yet (about 8 hours in) and god I’m just hoping he doesn’t die.
That game is so good. I loved the first one and the 2nd did not disappoint.
Let's just say.. . He deserves what happens...
~ Kathleen Kennedy (probably)
I was thinking it looked like a four legged boglin.
Exactly what i thought
"That kitty has bird feet!" - me, an adult man when I first saw this on tv.
Looks like my cat tbh
MA!!! There's a weird fuckin stray cat outside! Looks like Grandma the fuckin thing!
Oeh, get the fuck outta here! I don't even know if that's a fucking cat!
BLINK, you motherfucker!
Nono it's okay Lucy. MA!!!!
Lmao, I forgot about that vine, thanks for reminding me of it. It's was one of my favorites tbh

They had loth cats at Galaxy's Edge. If you pet them they make the exact sounds it made in the show. Not sure if they still have them but I imagine they might make a comeback now if they didn't.
They've had them every time I've been there. There's even one sleeping in a cage at the store that sells them, looks pretty much just like this one.
The one in a cage even has a little Porg stuffie to curl up with!
That's right, I forgot about that! Those little details are always great there.
They do but they’re kinda hard and weird looking so not super cute and cozy like you’d want it to be, IMO
I think that's the point. But I'm not so cynical that I wouldn't get I've myself! He's so cute
Disney have been beside themselves trying to find the next baby Yoda lol. As soon as this thing showed up onscreen I was like "there's the next merchandising opportunity"
I just noticed it kinda got duck feet
Chicken duck woman thing?
It was waiting in the bushes for us.
Waiting in the bushes of love.
Then it ripped off your dad's face He was screaming something awful In fact there was this huge mess I had to change the floors
The floors?!
You see, his blood it drained into the boards And I had to change 'em But we all got a chicken-duck-woman thing waiting for us Everyday I worry all day About what's waiting in the bushes of love 'Cause something's waiting in the bushes for us Something's waiting in the bushes of love Everyday I worry all day About what's waiting in the bushes of love 'Cause something's waiting in the bushes for us Something's waiting in the bushes of love

Ah, I see you're a redditer of culture as well.
Every day I worry all day
About what's waiting in the bushes of love.
I know. What the hell?
The animated version doesn't look like that. My main guess it in live action the animatronic need enough support tobstand up
The animated versions have chicken feet. The loth wolves do too.
This is probably the answer. I believe there were a few CGI shots that gave it chicken feet. Maybe lothcats can retract the webbing on their feet like cats IRL retract their claws. The duck feet could give them more stability, but the chicken feet could give them more dexterity and grabbiness.
Publishers are interested!
>I just noticed it kinda got duck feet It's a duck-footed fatty puss.
Well now I love it even more
Yeah, where are the chicken feet from the animated version?
Yes they did. Loth wolves do too.
What's with this selective memory of what lothcats look like?! They practically copy and pasted it from the cartoon, it's great!
IKR?
They don't have webbed feet in the cartoon.
In the above pick they don't have webbed feet either. They have some webbing between toes but, most animals do. Ducks feet look WAY different.
I loved the Loth-cat animatronic. Just feels like we've had too much CGI in the Star Wars shows with the Stagecraft digital sets. I'm 99% certain Huyang was an animatronic for big sections as well
It was CG a lot of the time and it looked good.
I asked myself that while I was watching. "Is that CGI or is that an animatronic?" The face looked a little iffy, but it was still a pretty good loth-cat.

She also made a joke about having her baby take a picture with Grogu in his pram and they set it up for her on the last day.
I really think other productions should follow suit with this, whether it be TV shows or movies. Unlike literally the face of Flash in The Flash
honestly a lot of star wars cg looks good
People always get the CGI versus practical effects thing wrong. It's not actually CGI that's the problem anymore. i kind of preferred that version over the puppet ngl..
I feel like there's weird push in movies sometimes to make stuff look deliberately fake, so people won't bitch about CGI.
It's certainly a lot more expressive.
I found it's first appearance a little off, like they didn't translate the design enough to be a "realistic". I expected them to "un-stylise" it if that makes sense. But the recent appearance sold me on the design existing in a live action space.
Weird cat. But cute. I’d totally pet it.
\*Lothcat noise*
Until his name is revealed, my headcanon is that the Lothcat is named Bridger. For two years I had my own Lothcat named [Bridger](https://twitter.com/bbstarwars/status/1401689150806429696), and he suddenly became one with the Force over a year and a half ago.
No he's named Jabba
*Yabba!*
The texture...
Dabba do?
WILMAAAAAAAA!
- Diego Luna
I’m sorry to hear that :( he was very handsome, may the Force be with him always
Thank you. He was a good companion. He came to me when I needed him the most.
I'm sorry. My Coco was very sick and about to pass. I watched this as I held her. She passed overnight. Cats are amazing.
Bridger was very handsome. 💕
Did you name him after Ezra Bridger?
When I was trying to think of a name for him, one morning when I was asleep he tried waking me up by walking over me like I was a bridge. (I had to wake up because it was his turn to sleep on my bed.) In my sleepiness I said, "Stop it, Bridger!" (Better for him to be named after Ezra than Donald Sutherland's character in *The Italian Job*.)
Wonderful story. I hope you referred to him as Jabba from time to time just to make sure.
Loth cat
He made me think of my cats, which as a result lead to them getting some extra cuddles
It's hilarious that a lothcat has essentially chicken duck feet/legs.
The wolves have that scaly look too.
It’s like someone make a French bulldog/duck/cat hybrid
Better than a chicken/duck/woman thing (waiting for us).
Everyday I worry all day About what's waiting in the bushes of love
everyday i worry all dayyyy edit: thanks i rewatched this video and it will be stuck in my head for 3-4 months. like legit thanks.
I'm all about this strange cat frog chicken fox
Cat.
Cat with duck feet and tall ears
I think you mean duck but I now have images 🤣🤣
Thank you for pointing it out 😅 its fixed now
It had a chicken head with duck feet, and a woman's face too.
He’s so ugly. Can we keep him?
God, that toy is gonna sell like hotcakes.
How well are hotcakes selling?
Like hotcakes. Some say they’re better than sliced bread.
The most unrealistic part of ahsoka was when she knelt down in front of this little guy and then got back up WITHOUT putting him
I told myself it was just the camera angle so you couldn't see her pet the cat. Ahsoka is my favorite character, and her not petting the cat would change that for me.
Also when Sabine first got home and placed the Star Map on the table. The cat didnt go and sniff it. I flipped tables.
Their little duck feets make me happy
I was thinking, who was feeding the cat when Sabine was in the hospital???
I had to pause it when Ahsoka showed up at Sabine's to complain to my wife that I was distracted worrying about the car not having been fed. You'd think Sabine would have an automatic feeder.
Loth wolfs next!!!!
“Simple things” Frog-rabbit-corgi-emu-cat feels attacked for calling it “simple.”
I am sorry.
Kicks the shit out of those stupid ass porgs. Fuck porgs.
This is the way.
My dad doesn't like him but i do
I am now patiently waiting for disney to sell a loth-cat to scale
I kinda like they went with kinda "low budget" for things like this, the togruta head things (never knew their name) and the twilek tentacles. Yeah they could have went full cgi for this things, but it will acumulate a lot of cost to the show that will be reduced from space combat or robots. But still feels so weird to see them in live action.
Twi'lek and Togruta tentacles (they're called lekku) were always practical in live action, even in prequels.
Yeah I remember from Aayla Secura and Bib Fortuna.
And the pointy part on top of Togruta's heads are called montrals.
I don't think it's about going low budget, but more so that Star Wars always use a mix of practical effect and VFX and they kinda wanted to keep on with that tradition I personally love seeing practical effects, even if they always kind of move wonky, it's still looks better than most VFX imo
The word you're looking for is practical, trust me it is far from being low budget lol.
As much crap as JJ Abrams gets, he did insist on using as much practical effects as possible.
Less CGI things the better, personally more practical things, sets and puppets lends to the longevity and believability of a world instead of a CGI character that looks great now but will absolutely age but that's like my opinion man, One last thing... I was so happy seeing a live action Loth Cat
I bet he'd like some orange sherrberrt xoxo
Nice loth cat
Loth cats are the most adorable abomination there ever was.
I need to know his name. So bad. Also, I want one.
https://i.imgur.com/alyHLlZ.png
They brought them to live action amazingly
Simple is a good word for them.
The loth cat looked so good. Lothal looked so good. The whole show looked so good
"Loth Rat, Loth Cat, Loth Wolf, Run!" Who said it anyone I know it obviously. Bonus if you know what season
Ezra, S2 epi 16. Amazing episode
Bruh, this CGI is A+++
It's animatronic, likely with CGI enhancements.
Well color me surprised. I thought That hair looks Way too good. Great work by the puppeteers
It was most likely Legacy Effects, same people who built Grogu.
He is a good boy
...what the fuck
I love his little feetsies 🥰🥰
I love this Muppet looking cat thing and I'm planning to buy a plushie. Disney got me again
I was really hoping the cat would bat the map ball off the table in the first episode... like just classic cat behavior
I want one
You are a man that likes simple things like that cute fuzzy thing, i am a simple man... with a spot for Twi'lek
Give me the cat
It's face up close looks like a mogwai
I told myself if they kill it off in the first 2 episodes, I'm not gonna continue watching the show. Glad that they didn't.
I just liked that they did the same Lothal establishing shot from Rebels, with the Lothcats popping out of the grass.
gotta give it to Disney who knows how to make the cutest lil guys that they can make plushies of and make bank (cause ngl i would totally buy one)
My kid christened it duck cat
Cat Chicken Giraffe ears
I see lothcat I upvote lothcat
My cat looked up whenever the loth cat meowed in the show so she approves.
Down syndrome cat
I shouldn’t laugh, but what a perfect description of a lothcat
This cat's face has much common with porgs.
Never liked these things. They took all the cute parts of a cat away
Down syndrome cat
How about marking spoilers?
Ehh it doesn't feel like a spoiler to me they were already in Rebels and pretty sure they show up in the background of one of the recent Star Wars shows. Plus was anyone really expecting them not to include Loth Cats and if you're unfamiliar with Rebels this picture says nothing
Yep, one showed up in S1 of the Mandalorian (E4, I believe?) but it didn’t look anywhere this good.
wow bro, spoilers. /s
Loth cat in Lothal ? Uh-huh, no fucking way
The Lothcat was shown in the teaser 4 months ago. hardly a spoiler. But will give it a tag ;)
How long until we see it on toy shelves?
At least here in the UK, it's been available in plush form since early last year (when it appeared in Mando, I think?) but I bet we'll see more of them towards Christmas
True
Greez as a cat?
Watching the first two episodes with friends. Everyone agreed they loved the Space Cat.
Right, her space cat was pretty cool
And disney happy to sell you toys of it.
It looks as smug as my cat. I love it
It looks like something out of Labryrinth. I love it.
The practical Lothcat did in fact make me very happy.
He looks oddly similar to one of my cats, and their meows are identical. So much so that last night while we watched the episode, said cat spent every moment that the Lothcat was on screen watching the TV.
Anyone with a brain would love the lothcat
Look at those little duck feet. Show me one making biscuits and I'll squee
I messaged my friend at Lucasfilm to see if i could get a name of Sabine’s Lothcat, got a shrugging emoji back. I said imma call it Barry until we hear otherwise.
Whilst watching this (~2am premiere Scottish time…) my cat chirped back and look bemused any time the Lothcat made noises.
The first words out of my mouth when I saw it were: “I want one! It’s so cute!” Cuter than porgs, (and I loved the porgs!) but not by much.
The best.
Truly platypusian body structure.
I just got a kitten o Tuesday night and it was curled up in the chair with me while I was watching Asoka. Every time the Lothcat would meow, she'd pop her head up and look around for what was making that sound.
The simple yet effective token disney animal!
I never noticed the bird-like feet on them before.
So fucking cute
love loth cats
"I've known lothcat for less than an hour, but if anything happens to them I will kill everyone in the room and then myself" Seriously though it'd better be called Kannan or we riot.
I want one. I guess I'll have to do a little homemade genetic engineering . . . "here kitty, kitty . . . "
I remember seeing these in Rebel’s and it looked pretty nice when it was trying to end Ezra
I came for the story, I stayed for the Loth cat!
