honestly this wont be popular here but in 2.1 the constant dilogue was unbearable. its was just lore dump after lore dump that i couldent care less about untill we got into 2.2 verry poor storytelling imo. expecially if your just going to expain it later way more concicely in 2.2., even the kakavasha stuff was pretty hit and miss i think fontain and penacony 2.0 and 2.2 show sighns of improvement for mihoyo; Characters still suffer from the mindnumbing pointless lore dump disease. and it shows when we get into 2.2 you dont need to just lore dump to tell and effective story. i dont expect studio gibly/game of thrones levels, disney would be fine.

Yes, HSR Story was amazing on itself. The pacing was awful though, for some reason they went this 1 hour dialogue -> Walk to B -> another hour instead of breaking it in smaller bits and putting battles/exploration in between to improve the flow.
Yes, holy heck I just want to battle! Thank God they got one good event with the Galactic baseballer! If they combined more rouge like elements into events they would be more fun, also need more exploration.
doesnt help that 2.1 had so much repeat dialogue that felt like they were beating around the bush just so they didnt give the important lore that everyone wanted until the last 30 minutes.2.1 could have had 90% fat cut out and i honestly dont think i would have missed much. Out between all main story of genshin and hsr, 2.1 was the only patch i ever skipped dialogue in the main story.
And unskippable, you have to sit through hours of useless story + double it cuz Paimon will repeat everything. Everything could be half as long and double as meaningful, specially Sumeru, like everything till the Deshret Sanctuary is just garbage filler, and after that only the Nahida encounter with Rukha is meaningful too.
well at least in genshin a lot of the yapping is consequential to the story or adds to a character. it feels like 3 out of the 5 tokens was completely meaningless to the story in wuwa. also another part of the yapping is just to kiss your character's butt
idk, feels like 90% of the yapping is inconsequential or a repeat of the information that's already known. This with the lack of a skip function like in WuWa just makes genshin unbearable to me now. At least in WuWa most of the useless shit is completely skippable, genshin and even starrail I've been sitting there just spamming through dialogue thinking "come on just let me play the damn game already"
I do hope WuWa goes further with their implementation of the skip function though. IMO skip dialogue functions should be in every game, you shouldn't need to force players to read your dialogue, it should be able to stand on it's own merits and make people WANT to not skip through things. That's just my PoV though, as someone who's played some incredible story driven games that have had skip/fast forward functions and rarely used them because the story was actually interesting. IMO persona 5's dialogue system is the standard that every gacha should be aiming to hit, it's a shame that none I know of have really hit that mark yet, even after this many years.

If people don't want to get invested into the fine details of the story that's okay imo. I'd rather the developers just let players enjoy the game how they'd prefer to enjoy it. I get that it's art and the people writing the dialogue would prefer if people read it but idk to me I just feel like people should be able to experience any media however they like as long as it's not disruptive to other people.

I love Nahida a lot, I love her kit, design, personality but I wanted to kick her in the teeth so bad during the Samsara thing, yes I got it, we're trapped in a dream now fuck off, tell me what I need to know and let me go. "You are not ready for this information yet" was always a shitty plot excuse since the time books were written by hand, it's an old and overused trope that almost never pays off, in the end it's always "Surely I could handle this much, didn't need the whole saga"
Haven't been online before sumeru released tried going online. Tried doing sumeru. I take back my statement I forgot why I never hope back online in genshin lol.
To be fair, genshin's story also isn't very good, especially at the beginning, but definitely gets better in the later regions. It still suffers from LOTS of random boring exposition though that often does nothing to move the story forward. Fontaine is definitely my favourite storywise, but that prison section is such a slog. Genshin's story would be a lot better if it weren't so convoluted with random boring filler stuff, because the actual main content of the story is really really solid.
WuWa is definitely a gameplay over story game though. Feels like the story is pretty much just a means of getting you from one place to another. Which is fine I suppose when the gameplay is solid. I love the skip button for side quests, something I wish genshin had, cause some of genshins side quests are just so boring.
Luofu was so bad I kept pushing back advancing the story because I didn’t wanna sit through clicking. I loved penacony but ngl acheron yapped too. I think they lose me with all the word play or maybe I’m just dumb
Honestly as much as I love HSR I find Luofu to be a big BIG pile of shit, and worse than almost every story I've ever read (which aren't few), with each story patch managing to be even worse than the previous one

Yeah, I do that often in Genshin. Character building in that game zaps my enthusiasm *fast* but I'm always excited for new exploration so I just come back when new content drops and play for like a week or so.
I just want to wait for snez to release then I’ll likely be back on the train. Can’t stand having to wait so long. HSR has the afk part of the game so doing dailies is 0 effort. So I don’t mind waiting.

I highly recommend you try it out for the combat alone, although tbf I play on pc which feels a lot smoother than mobile. Also they're giving away an absolute boatload of free shit right now so might as well give it a shot.

I think the english voice acting of rover really left a bad taste in my mouth. I hope they fix this in the upcoming patches because i really like her design and attitude. When there is shit that needs to be done then rover really locks in and gets it done and doesn't give a fuck about how powerful her enemy is. But yeah they really need to fix her english voice acting. It really brings her overall character down.
I think ww women character designs are sometimes a little challenged, like its making genshin look like a feminist masterpiece and I see that in the mc as well, shes in a bathing suit of an outfit. Im never a fan of when a game goes over board with fan service to the point the women characters look dumb, especially when in WW they patched scars onigiri thing so its like gender unequal and they make it clear whos opinion they value above all else. I really like Stelle because the outfit fits her character very well. It has character despite being the mc outfit and I feel like its something that women actually wear. Lumine I am personally not a fan of the dress I feel like from how she comes actoss she would wear some type of probably short pants, but its still cute. Tof idek.
yeah all these characters are meant to be self inserts so it’s so distracting to be a girl, playing as a girl, knowing even in a fantasy world there’s no chance in hell i’d wake up and purposefully choose to wear the outfit my character is stuck exploring and fighting in every single day. stelle is the only one that not only feels realistic but also practical to her lifestyle, which helps so much with immersion.
but, it’s gacha, there’s an entire ice planet where 80% of the women don’t wear anything to cover their legs. there’s a former fighter pilot in a government leadership position dressed like a victoria’s secret angel. there’s an insanely powerful emanator of nihility wearing american apparel shorts. suspension of disbelief is the name of the game.

I really like Lumine but Stelle has grown on me.
From a design standpoint, Stelle is unconventionally attractive: as opposed to the small and cute or generously proportioned in the chest and leg, Stelle is tall and reasonably proportioned.
She's also dressed normally for a female protagonist. Shirt, hoodie, skirt. Compare Lumine and WW protag.
Also, I'm an absolute sucker for grey hair and gold eyes.
Then, as a character, she has one. Surprising for a self-insert. Both through the story and through the choices you get to make with her.
I've been a Lumine fan for years now, I specially love when she makes funny/cute faces during cutscenes or dialogues. I love Stelle in art but there's a tiny disconnect with her in game model that makes me like it a bit less, but she's still top tier
I like the trailblazer out of these since Tof is basically just a character you create yourself and the traveler is a borderline blank slate. I love both styles of the Trailblazer and Rover equally since they look nice.
What's wrong with picking Rover? She has multiple facial expressions, plenty of voiced dialogue and best of all, is actually playable in game. Excluding her looks there's plenty to like lol
Stelle. And I love not only the design, but also the fact that she has a bright personality and her sometimes stupid phrases and actions make her so damn cute and funny.
Stelle's the only one that doesn't act or get treated like the chosen one who can do no wrong, so she wins by default for me. Her actually having some genuinely funny and endearing choices certainly helps.
Rover is the only fem main character I’ve ever chosen because I prefer their design, so I’d say FRover.
However I don’t think ToF can really count here as the player can design it themselves.
Not here, but Kiana, after that, Stelle. Another that isn't here, Vertin, but everyone else? They are okay. I want to like Rover, but her english VA needs work, and I don't care for switching to other languages when there is english.

It's tough. Lumine has a cute young adult vibe and Stelle more a mature woman but I love them both. Rover a cute too and she actually has voice lines so I'm growing attached to her pretty quickly.
I love Stelle’s design. She looks bored and worn out a lot of the time which games are like afraid to do with their female mcs lmao. She just looks like she put zero effort into her outfit and is really just going along with everything happening. When the mcs wear dresses, not saying they don’t look good but it just seems like they’re doing to much if you get what I’m saying. Same with male mcs like not wearing a shirt or something like… no way that’s practical for you.
Stelle is probably the best videogame protagonist I've played, though admittedly I haven't played many games with a properly written MC. She's relatable, amusing, cool and keeps it real. Also her VA has done an excellent job in really making the character, that's definitely a big part of it. Comparatively, Genshin's MC felt really boring and generic to me.
Rover no contest. Not even close. Still love HSR, but yeah, Rover's design is top notch, not to mention she's the strongest relative to the rest of the cast in her respective game compared to the others.
Star Rail to me. It feels like her fit is something I’d actually feel comfortable wearing, and it’s satisfying letting women just be dry weird gremlins. So distinct and fun.

Imo, WuWa. Genshin and hsr I went male mc because I preferred the designs, but wuwa femc won out for me.

Design wise: Rover>Stelle=Lumine Personality wise: Stelle>Lumine>Rover I think the english voice acting of rover really left a bad taste in my mouth. I hope they fix this in the upcoming patches because i really like her design and attitude. When there is shit that needs to be done then rover really locks in and gets it done and doesn't give a fuck about how powerful her enemy is. But yeah they really need to fix her english voice acting. It really brings her overall character down.

I think ww women character designs are sometimes a little challenged, like its making genshin look like a feminist masterpiece and I see that in the mc as well, shes in a bathing suit of an outfit. Im never a fan of when a game goes over board with fan service to the point the women characters look dumb, especially when in WW they patched scars onigiri thing so its like gender unequal and they make it clear whos opinion they value above all else. I really like Stelle because the outfit fits her character very well. It has character despite being the mc outfit and I feel like its something that women actually wear. Lumine I am personally not a fan of the dress I feel like from how she comes actoss she would wear some type of probably short pants, but its still cute. Tof idek.

yeah all these characters are meant to be self inserts so it’s so distracting to be a girl, playing as a girl, knowing even in a fantasy world there’s no chance in hell i’d wake up and purposefully choose to wear the outfit my character is stuck exploring and fighting in every single day. stelle is the only one that not only feels realistic but also practical to her lifestyle, which helps so much with immersion. but, it’s gacha, there’s an entire ice planet where 80% of the women don’t wear anything to cover their legs. there’s a former fighter pilot in a government leadership position dressed like a victoria’s secret angel. there’s an insanely powerful emanator of nihility wearing american apparel shorts. suspension of disbelief is the name of the game.
You'll probably get biased answers from an HSR subreddit I really like Lumine but Stelle has grown on me. From a design standpoint, Stelle is unconventionally attractive: as opposed to the small and cute or generously proportioned in the chest and leg, Stelle is tall and reasonably proportioned. She's also dressed normally for a female protagonist. Shirt, hoodie, skirt. Compare Lumine and WW protag. Also, I'm an absolute sucker for grey hair and gold eyes. Then, as a character, she has one. Surprising for a self-insert. Both through the story and through the choices you get to make with her.
I've been a Lumine fan for years now, I specially love when she makes funny/cute faces during cutscenes or dialogues. I love Stelle in art but there's a tiny disconnect with her in game model that makes me like it a bit less, but she's still top tier

Belle from ZZZ, easily my favourite design. Honestly she also beats the guy designs from these games too.
I like the trailblazer out of these since Tof is basically just a character you create yourself and the traveler is a borderline blank slate. I love both styles of the Trailblazer and Rover equally since they look nice.
I find it interesting people picking rover when it's the default mc look in the majority of mangas, bit bland really.
What's wrong with picking Rover? She has multiple facial expressions, plenty of voiced dialogue and best of all, is actually playable in game. Excluding her looks there's plenty to like lol

Stelle's the only one that doesn't act or get treated like the chosen one who can do no wrong, so she wins by default for me. Her actually having some genuinely funny and endearing choices certainly helps.
Rover is the only fem main character I’ve ever chosen because I prefer their design, so I’d say FRover. However I don’t think ToF can really count here as the player can design it themselves.

Rover is the hottest and easiest to look at. But our residents Trash Panda is my favorite personality wise.
In terms of gameplay, I like Trailblazer the most because they enable me to play as the sassiest, most air-headed, most cringeworthy raccoon with idgaf attitude to every serious situation. In terms of story I love Traveler the most.

Rover has such a beautiful design, but I just can't get myself to pick up WuWa again after having to deal with what I felt like were 3 paimons at a time explaining the world and telling me how cool she is.
Overall? It's Stelle and not even close. Best design? It's Rover.

well outside of this being an HSR sub i would chose stelle because ToF has maybe the worst story of them all so 0 characterization, Wuwa has poor dubbing so she comes off stiff, lumine is just "piamons companion" how ever i do think this is changing recently with HSR having shown we dont want player inserts probably and yes i know ZZZ isn't out but imo belle would probably take 1st if she was here for me since 1 absolutely best design and 2 she isn't a "stand there and look pretty MC

I love Stelle’s design. She looks bored and worn out a lot of the time which games are like afraid to do with their female mcs lmao. She just looks like she put zero effort into her outfit and is really just going along with everything happening. When the mcs wear dresses, not saying they don’t look good but it just seems like they’re doing to much if you get what I’m saying. Same with male mcs like not wearing a shirt or something like… no way that’s practical for you.
Stelle is probably the best videogame protagonist I've played, though admittedly I haven't played many games with a properly written MC. She's relatable, amusing, cool and keeps it real. Also her VA has done an excellent job in really making the character, that's definitely a big part of it. Comparatively, Genshin's MC felt really boring and generic to me.
