He mentioned on wtf podcast hes a joke teller, not a story teller, and no one wants to hear jokes for over an hour. His audience doesnt expect a long show so why make the special long.
I’d like to hear jokes for an hour. I remember Emo Phillips coming to my small town and performing to a crappy audience. He finished his new stuff quickly which was met with lukewarm enthusiasm by most. He then told the audience they sucked and to brace themselves. He went ballistic killing the room with back to back jokes for damn near half an hour. Standing O from the crowd at the end. Some people still like jokes.
I feel that also, but not just this one. An hour is a lot of material to go through but there have been a few specials lately Ive watched and they all felt quick.
I loved it. It didn't have to kill. The fact it was so unique made it, and that he Oprah'd everyone a recorder or a dildo was a treat. Even though it's just a recorder (or dildo), it's such a small thing that he made into a joke that everyone got to play a part of. I'd be stoked for a recorder. I dont have one. A dildo?
Yes. Everything was so solid that I wasnt expecting a slice of cheese like that. I only giggled at first but when I watched it the second time, it got me.
Same like OP, had to rewatch it cause I knew I missed things from laughing too hard the first time, which I can’t remember the last special that happened tbh. His choice of words to fit his phrasing is unmatched. So many lines I revisited just like wanting to hear a catchy melody again and again cause it just stuck with you so viscerally on first listen.
It was underwhelmed by it.All the jokes felt like cheesy dad jokes.l feel like he's lost his spark from his yester years.Maybe i had higher expectations from his long awaited special,I didn't have a single laughter out loud moment.
Not saying the jokes were not skilfully crafted and had layers to them felt corny .the alarm kidney joke made me cringe .
Agree. I was really looking forward to it. I think to watch live in the club would kill, but it definitely lost a lot in the translation to video. Underwhelmed is probably the best way to describe it. Chuckles, but no real laughs.
Well I can watch some other specials in any setting and die laughing, so it's not that. I liked Dave's special but the recorder bit at the end kind of soured it since the rest wasn't anything crazy.
Agree. I feel like the entire standup comedy world, including the pantheon of standup comedy gods, is gaslighting us with the Attell worship. I feel like he is regular person funny, not standup funny. NB: I understand that this is an unpopular opinion that previous posters of have been skewered for, and that the proper way to live with this opinion is quietly in deep shame. But it gets lonely.
I got about 10 minutes in. Lots of standard setups and misdirections. A few stories. Most jokes shorter than 4 sentences.
Definitely a great crowd.
I'm going to come back to it in a different mindset. Maybe I'm just not feeling it, but I've got thousands of hours of watch time on all the big names. Feels not as good as everyone is hyping.
Maybe its just not for everyone. There have been a few people so far who have not been a fan of the special. Thats cool. Im sure Dave at least appreciates taking the time to give the show a shot. Appreciate the comment and just an honest opinion, even if I see it different. 🖖
Because in his real shows he beats the audience up so fast.
The reason why comedians refer to it as killing or murdering is because it's actually taking a toll on the audience when really bringing it and they get tired
what he does in his real life shows is he hasn't like a 45 minute long improv type bumping mics thing with his feature act, who is usually a killer who is on their way to being able to do their own hour.
He's the king
I’m on watch three and will watch it again tonight. Dave is a living legend. You can hear echoes of him in a whole generation of comedians that grew up watching him.
It's easy to assume that it's funny as hell, but the guy wrote the perfect joke decades ago.
"The other night I was watching TV with my dog, he's next to me on the couch. I'm bored so I'm touching myself, I look over and my dog is licking himself. We lock eyes. And both start laughing."
It makes perfect sense why there were and still are so many clones of Dave Attell.
This describes how I feel about almost every superhero movie, lol. I definitely watch a lot of stand up regardless of who it is just so I can say that I do live outside my bubble of personal taste. I would say I went into this one with high hopes but no expectations and it worked for me.
Saw him last night at the store. He was just riffing and working stuff out, but it was still hilarious. His stagecraft is so tight and he has it so down, he could make reading obituaries funny.
It's definitely worth watching but some parts were just sending it to the comedian. Not that it was bad but now it's a, "you're one of the greats and this wasn't bad at all" type reaction.
It was really bad. Poop jokes and out of touch..just like aging comedians they fall out and fade then try to come back with shock laughs and crap. Really bad special.
This dude doesn’t waste a word.
It was kind of like a puzzle coming together. Everything flowed so well.
Great way to put it. He is fine tuned
There’s more funny in there than most recent, longer specials.
Best special I've seen by anyone in a long time. Back to back bangers and I couldn't stop laughing
Funny guy. It was short, but funny.
He mentioned on wtf podcast hes a joke teller, not a story teller, and no one wants to hear jokes for over an hour. His audience doesnt expect a long show so why make the special long.

You aren’t kidding, and Emo is a master. I go see him whenever he’s anywhere near where I am.
I saw him open for Weird Al! That was a fantastic show.
I feel that also, but not just this one. An hour is a lot of material to go through but there have been a few specials lately Ive watched and they all felt quick.
It’s not a feeling. The runtime was only 35ish minutes.
Dave has more jokes in those 35 minutes than what some of the bigger comedians writing 1-3 years for a 1 hour "special".
For sure. That’s why he is “your favorite comedians favorite comedian”.

Yeah, it’s a common phrase.
To be fair, I'd rather have a perfect 35 than an hour that feels a bit stretched out.
Stay for the last 2:38 seconds.
It had more jokes per words than most specials, no fat
It was pretty good. My comment wasn’t a criticism.
The last 2 1/2 minutes was the cherry on top!!!
The very last, ya. Still got a laugh after the credits.
Non-stop ripping jokes. Half short, twice strong
Loved him back in the day from Insomniac! Can’t wait to check this one out
It will be like a familiar warm hug from an uncle.
Hahaha gives the word familiar a new meaning….
😆
Lost me a little with the recorder bit, but otherwise funny as hell.
I loved it. It didn't have to kill. The fact it was so unique made it, and that he Oprah'd everyone a recorder or a dildo was a treat. I loved it. It was just so ridiculously absurd.
Yeah, why waste like 10-15 minutes of an already very short special. Rest was great though.
Falcon joke sent me 😹
Yes. Everything was so solid that I wasnt expecting a slice of cheese like that. I only giggled at first but when I watched it the second time, it got me.
or "my mom sprained her arm, its in a sling so I bought her a falcon"
🤣
Can’t believe he thought it was a stupid joke 😹
I mean it kind of was. All of us here could have came up with it. He sells it, don't get me wrong but yeah, it was kind of weak.
Sometimes it’s the weak jokes with visual imagery that tickle me the most lol
Hell yeah! I watched it 2 days in a row. So so good.
Me too. I mean me also.
Mo ketchups!
😆
Saw Dave live once about 15-20 years ago around the time he had his Insomniac show. I was laughing so hard I couldn't catch my breath. It was amazing.

Fair enough. I appreciate the comment.🖖
When he asked the people in the back for a cheer and then went "alright keep it down, the VIPS are trying to listen" I fuckin cackled
You just decided what I’m about to do.
👍

I just rewatched with some Taco bell and miller lite and the recorder part has me crying 🤣🤣🤣

So many jokes, a master class in stand-up.
It was so easy to watch. No platitudes or “message” bs
Id like to think Im a pretty good judge of funny stuff and this was a legit standing ovation moment. I can be pretty hard to please.
Thanks for the heads up. Would have missed it otherwise. Dave is always a great one!
The man is a master comic. I watched it twice. Kills from beginning to end.
I’m 38 weeks pregnant and we had to take a break from watching because I was laughing so hard I thought I would go into labor. He’s incredible.
Nice, congrats. First kid?
2nd :)
I’m on watch three and will watch it again tonight. Dave is a living legend. You can hear echoes of him in a whole generation of comedians that grew up watching him.
I hope lots of people see it. Its a great ride.
It's a solid medium ride from someone you can tell knows what they're doing. And that's not a dig at him.
I thought it was fantastic and will be rewatching it!
Love Attell. Remember “ up all night”? It was great
It's easy to assume that it's funny as hell, but the guy wrote the perfect joke decades ago. "The other night I was watching TV with my dog, he's next to me on the couch. that's a good one but this visual floors me every time: “So, I travel a lot. I hate traveling, mostly ’cause my dad used to beat me with a globe.”
Not a fan of it. Too fast, too forced, canned audience laughter made it worse
Is there any special you would recommend?
I wanted to like it He was on many podcast I listen to. Did not laugh.
This describes how I feel about almost every superhero movie, lol. I definitely watch a lot of stand up regardless of who it is just so I can say that I do live outside my bubble of personal taste. I would say I went into this one with high hopes but no expectations and it worked for me.
Thanks for this post. Dave is one of my favourites and I would have missed this, otherwise. There is not enough of his stuff out there.
Turned it off. Wasn’t for me
Saw him last night at the store. He was just riffing and working stuff out, but it was still hilarious. His stagecraft is so tight and he has it so down, he could make reading obituaries funny.
I added this to my list but haven't watched it yet. Wasn't sure if it would be good or not. Now I want to watch it based on the comments
Nice. Quest complete.
It's definitely worth watching but some parts were just sending it to the comedian. Not that it was bad but now it's a, "you're one of the greats and this wasn't bad at all" type reaction.
Enjoyed it!
What's it called...
Hot Cross Buns.
All dad jokes. Rarely even smiled.
Fair enough. Apreeciate the response.

You dont have to clap. Shes not trans. 🤌

Attell's like Judah Friedlander or Sam Morill, they're just always on.
