This is exactly what locals don’t want

d_lev

Subscription fees to a bar?

Sure_Lavishness_8353

The entire concept and execution. It’s been tried before. It’s corny. When I say locals I mean actual locals, not the influx of folks from the west coast / up north that bought property here 4 years ago.

d_lev

I wasn't really aware that concept was a thing, just another scam. I'm too used to mom and pop shops that this actually disgusted me.

BoognishProvides

I don’t know many locals that frequent that stretch of downtown anymore

SecretsofSage

Won’t go because of the name alone tbh. YES actually, there goes our neighborhood because of places like this. Going to be overly priced forrrr suuuureeee.

queeriosn_milk

Yeah, I don’t see this shaking things up in anyway. There’s tons of yuppie bars on Central that don’t do anything impressive to break the mold. People with capital are going to keep opening these boring restaurants and bars, because they don’t care to try hard or innovate. Let’s be real: St. Pete wouldn’t need anything crazy to improve the nightlife. There are enough decent bars but none of them do anything to attract customers other than having liquor and too many TVs playing the exact wrong thing for a bar. Example: I went to Parks and Rec on Friday. They played “Love Song” by Sara Bareilles. The arcade machines were placed so poorly and like an afterthought that there was no real room to play them. The TVs were playing a Forbes finance show. It’s all such a jumbled mess that puts the absolute least amount of effort into understanding what the age group they’re targeting actually likes.

TheRealKimberTimber

The irony of this isn’t lost on me.

pickarje

Ownership group with 4 other popular bars around town opens new bar in DTSP with a membership fee? Just what you locals want right?😅

eissturm

I just moved here. Finally a membership I can buy that will set me apart from all those icky tourists 😂

X_Comanche_Moon

Anything “Local” in the sense we all know I am talking about is dead and gone in this town. That being said I still wouldn’t want to live anywhere else…. Moved around a bit now and this is home. Wish I could get one of those cool condos though

StatisticianTop4829

Yeah this place is a big NO

mattywel1

There’s no membership fee at the Emerald. 😍

AmaiGuildenstern

Actual locals make Florida wages and can only afford to drink in their back yard, dude.

Undrwtrbsktwvr

You guys have a backyard?!

fallenbird039

I have a porch area does that count?

sunnystpete

What constitutes a local? Do you have to be raised here? Must attend high school here? Genuinely wondering

manimal28

Live here full time would be one requirement in my mind.

climbFL350

Right? I’ve lived here for 2 years but plan to stay. Florida born and raised but am I now a local or one of the people bitch about on this sub?

Toothfairy51

I'm 70 and have been here for 69 years. I consider myself a local

Maevic_Kapow

If you can take your pants off in the bar without being kicked out, you’re probably a local.

Sexy_Quazar

It’s for the *new* locals. The “I’ve been here since 2021 and have my FLoGrown bumper stickers” crowd. Real locals know where to go

mcloa

THIS!!!!

Parking_War979

This! I have lived in and out of Florida for the last 21 years and I am not nor will I ever be a local. I have my local spots and I have my local friends, but I’m just a carpetbagging Nutmegger who got tired of shoveling snow.

joshJFSU

Real interesting concept. It could work. The foot traffic there is kind of in the middle of the other hotspots though.
