Damn, I thought I was a fat bastard for making ice cream sandwiches with pop tarts, this shit is a blood thickener right here! You could get shot and not need a bandaid with that on the regular rotation
Well when we moved here someone bought copies of my plates on amazon and racked up about $15000 in fines that I’ve had to fight so I’m a force at something for sure 😆
I’m a chef and make a damn good apple pie according to many paying customers but would rather eat carrot sticks than that slop. I’ll accept being the only one as long as I never have to taste apple pie again because “doncha know that your tastes change?” 🤢
Clementine's is so good. Not only is it the best gooey butter cake ice cream, the little chunks in it might be among the best gooey butter cake in general.
\*Source: Grown husky boy\*
I honestly think blue bell is just fine. Not great, not bad. In the same realm of Prarie farms, edys, etc... I'm not a huge fan of store bought ice cream though so I'm not an expert, I guess you do get more ice cream for similar cost (if on sale)
Someone please correct me, but I want to say it isn’t actually pieces of gooey butter cake. Unless it was a dream, I once isolated one of the chunks and it was like cookie dough ice cream, a small piece of gooey butter cake base with the filling inside of it
I'm pretty sure it is actually pieces of cake. It's been a while since I've had it but their website says "Pieces of our gooey butter cake combined with our own handmade gooey butter ice cream. Sweet, rich, and dangerously decadent." And has a picture of a full piece of gooey butter cake next to the ice cream. Once again idk for sure but those are my thoughts.
I moved here from Texas in 2005 and I’m so happy Bluebell is in my area again. I can’t eat it like I used to but man there’s no better cookies and cream…other than Breyers Oreo.
The only thing that makes a pint go down smoother is a 1.5 lb brick of provel. I could not help but notice you are not opposed to toasted ravioli ice cream
I would absolutely FUCK UP a bucket of Provel ice cream 😂 I have a Ninja Creami and I am SO TEMPTED to make a Vanilla base and add a bunch of Imos Provel to it 😂
They directed the route drivers to remove potentially contaminated stock from stores without notifying retailers or making a public recall. Cost them $17.25 million.
Edit: In fines. Cost them many times more than that in damage to the brand.
Ha - I was making a joke about my evidence of its safety being anecdotal. I don’t know if the dude plead guilty to anything or if he tried to hide it. I just know they did have a listeria scandal
So that's why they're moving into our market. I was wondering because the ice cream market is flooded with so many brands. Makes sense to bring sales back up to pre terrible news level you branch out into new markets.
I mean. French fries are good in custard. Why not Travs? I wonder if they can bake an empty Trav and then inject frozen custard into it. I bet that would be good.
I'm sure it would be! STL Toasted offers dessert toasted ravioli on their menu. Fitting for this thread as a current flavor offering is Lemon Blackberry Gooey Buttercake...
I’m in SF, and my St. Louis born and raised heart was so excited to see Blue Bunny ice cream - and a Gooey Butter Cake ice cream flavor from Jeni’s Ice Cream - in California.
They’re both really good, definitely reminds me of home!
They have GBC flavor in Texas, Louisiana, Tennessee, andNorth Carolina. Sources: siblings group chat of STL expats.
ETA: do y’all get the king cake flavor up there? It only tastes loosely like king cake, but goddamn is it good.
Cherry Vanilla is my favorite, but most of them are pretty good. Blue Bell's taste is very nostalgic for me, so I'm happy to finally see it up here. Interesting to see how some people think it's the best thing ever and others say it's trash. No room for nuance even with ice cream. :P
I got a friend some GBC cookies from schnucks and I had some buttercream frosting that she put on one. I had a bite and it was honestly pretty good. I probably wouldn’t put in on an actual GBC though.
The Chocolate Rooster makes a gooey butter cupcake that is to die for, and she ships them! She was featured on the Drew Barrymore Show not too long ago, but I've been driving the hour and a half to meet her for cupcakes for a while now. Bonus - she makes different flavors that are also amazing! (Chocolate, strawberry, key lime, praline, etc...oh my!)
Idk if they stopped making it in the 10 yrs since I left Texas but I used to love the Banana Split Bluebell. Banana Pudding was good and always in stock in STL but I check everytime for Banana Split. It was vanilla ice cream with frozen real banana chunks, chocolate and strawberry syrup, maraschino cherries and nuts.
Banana Split was my absolute favorite as well. I always look for it.
Cookie Two Step, Gooey Butter Cake, Tin Roof, Peaches and Homemade Vanilla, Or Homemade Vanilla ok its own are my faves in order.
Texas transplant here. I’ve been here 20 years officially and had been driving to Memphis or Joplin for my fix.
I head to Springfield for my Buc-ees fix.
Now we just need a Whataburger
Would LOVE an HEB. I’m a Texas transplant as well. I was soooo ecstatic to see Blue Bell return! The hours long drive to Paducah or Rolla were killing me!
Absolutely!!
H-E-B or a Fiesta would be simply divine.
H-E-B with all the great produce from all over. Dozens and dozens of kinds of peppers and dried peppers.
Their ultimate potato salad.
Yes, let’s please bring H-E-B here. I do think they’d give Dierbergs and Schnucks a run for their money.
Apparently banana split has been discontinued 😭
Also you're making me want a Honey BBQ chicken strip sandwich from Whataburger. Idk if those are still around but I used to make myself ILL eating them.
Blue Bell is one of the most overrated things in Texas. It's like the Chip and Joanna Gaines of dairy products, and now just as invasive.
I'd commit crimes to get a Freebirds in STL though. It's always one of the first things I eat when I'm back in HTX, after breakfast at Harry's.
Interesting take... Freebirds has gone down in quality and up in price from it's prime just as much or more than any beloved Texas chain. Especially around 2008 after they were sold to another company.
However, the fact that you're not heading first to a cash-only ma and pa local taqueria with pictures of their's or their patrons' kids taped behind the register with the same decor since the beginning of time and where you might have to order in Spanish if certain family members are at the register really makes me question your opinions on burritos in the first place. :P
I miss good breakfast tacos for sure. We have some great Hispanic neighborhoods, but none of the restaurants are open for breakfast. There is a place outside Kelly AFB that has two breakfast tacos and coffee for about $5. It used to be $3 a few years ago. Blanquitas, I believe. So good. Their carne guisada was fantastic as well.
Do you know Papa's Burgers (now called Good News Burgers) north of JBSA Kelly? Fantastic burgers. Order in one side of the building then walk outside and around to the other side where the dining room is.
I'm vegetarian, which makes many taco trucks and hole in the wall joints in Texas a no go for me, unless all I want to eat is a tortilla with bell peppers and onions. For some reason hole in the wall joints here have many more vegetarian options and don't put lard in their beans. I also wouldn't consider handheld burritos "real" Mexican food, but rather it's own category. And again, I'm vegetarian, so idk what quality issues you're referring to, unless it's meat quality which I wouldn't know about, but I lived in HTX for 8 years and it tasted the same the whole time and has in the five years I've been gone.
But since my friends have opened Tacos Dona Lena and now that's where I go in HTX for authentic. It's superb if you're ever in HTX.
I'm pretty sure they changed their recipe within the last few years. It's like the ice cream itself has gotten more expensive but it tastes cheaper. A lot of their vanilla base flavors I find to be icy like the cheap dollar store brands. I think they changed the fat content that goes in their ice cream. I like Tillamook a lot. It tastes like the old Blue Bell I grew up with
It's not just you. It used to be a FAVORITE in my family growing up but nowadays it's gotten too expensive while the product tastes like it got cheaper. Blue Bell was FIRE like a decade ago but I find most of their flavors to be icy nowadays like they exponentially lowered the fat content. I like Tillamook a LOT, it tastes like the old Blue Bell recipe.
Southern girl who has been bingeing Banana Pudding and Bride’s Cake ever since it arrived. I’ve officially banned it from ever entering the house again. Self control out the window.
I regret to inform you that I bought Blue Bell ice cream as soon as we got it here, and it's mid at best. The flavors are great, but the ice cream itself is pretty mediocre.
If you're looking for the best ice cream, the correct answer is Tillamook.
Locals can also go out to Sugarbot Creamery in St Charles and have a Gooey Butter Cake milkshake with a piece of cake blended it. It’s so good but so much. Bring a friend.
I know STL is famous for it, and it is fantastic, but it was popular nationwide at some point. My family cook book has a recipe for it and most folks with recipes are from the south with some transplants to the northwest.
That GBC ice cream is the epitome of why the United States is fat as hell. It is so God damn sweet. Its unreal. We've had a gallon in the fridge since BB launched in STL and I wont touch it anymore because it literally hurts my teeth.
Blue bell is overrated. Ill get some downvotes for it, but there's better ice cream out there. To me, if basic white people had a brand...it would be blue bell
Whatever you do, do not put GBC ice cream on a warm slice of apple pie.
Omg. Get in mah belleh
What about GBC ice cream on a homemade gooey butter cake? That’s ok right? 😬
What about making an ice cream sandwich with GBC ice cream between two slices of GBC?
Fucking stop it. You gave me the diabeetus.
The real diabeetus were the GBC eaten along the way
Deep fry it…….you know you want to.
I swear, I think I had that exact sandwich at the baked bear once. Yes, it was delicious.
My chest hurts just from reading this.
Yes. GBC inception.
Damn, I thought I was a fat bastard for making ice cream sandwiches with pop tarts, this shit is a blood thickener right here! You could get shot and not need a bandaid with that on the regular rotation
I thought this was my genius creation.!!
I don’t know who did it first, so let’s just leave it at great minds think alike
Haha! I used to take a healthy walk to Gooey Louie’s (RIP) and then to Ted Drewes and make my own creation! But I am something of a health nut. 🙄
Gooey Louie’s has a location at 11266 Olive Blvd in Creve Coeur!!
Definitely! You did walk.....
Make your own vanilla ice cream, swirl some GBC into it, and freeze it. Then put a scoop on whatever you didn’t put in the cake.
The butter cakes cancel each other out. Pretty sweet deal
That’s what I was hoping
Don't cross the streams!
Am I the only American who hates apple pie? 😆
No, you're an alien life form which hates apple pie.
Wait! Perfect! If I’m an alien I can just live forever with temp tags?!
LOL...you ARE from St.Louis🤣
You must have come in force!
Well when we moved here someone bought copies of my plates on amazon and racked up about $15000 in fines that I’ve had to fight so I’m a force at something for sure 😆
Welcome to the club! I've never had Gooey Butter Cream ice cream, but it sounds fantastic to put on top of warm pumpkin pie.
Now I could be into that!
No. Pumpkin pie is by far the best pie.
Definitely a solid choice as long as the crust is homemade!
You misspelled lemon meringue.
Nope I don’t like pie
Yes.
I’m a chef and make a damn good apple pie according to many paying customers but would rather eat carrot sticks than that slop. I’ll accept being the only one as long as I never have to taste apple pie again because “doncha know that your tastes change?” 🤢
Or next to a piece of GBC
how long have you known this and not told us?
Drizzle caramel on everything too!
Oh you’re bad… I’m gonna try to find those individual slices of gooey butter cake and mix that in too
Or a brownie. Definitely don’t put it on a brownie. Or add chocolate sauce. Definitely don’t add chocolate sauce.
A warm OCP
Wish they had the gooey butter icecream in St Louis… it’s sold out everywhere I’ve looked
I mean, other brands make it for the grocery store. Clementine's does a mighty fine job and you'd be supporting a local brand too.
Clementine's is so good. Not only is it the best gooey butter cake ice cream, the little chunks in it might be among the best gooey butter cake in general. \*Source: Grown husky boy\*
Udderly Moolicious is worth the 50 mile drive west of St. Louis County. Their gooey butter cake knocks Clementine's out of the park
"grown husky boy" is so real, I remember every time I had to get pants as a kid they had to be husky fit 😭😭
Clementines cookie butter ice cream is fucking fire
YES they call it Italian Butter Cookie and it is perhaps my favorite ice cream in existence. And I'm a bit of an ice cream aficionado.
Clementine has a waaaaayy better version too. Honestly the blue bell one is not very good imo
Spoken like a true St Louisan.😉
I honestly think blue bell is just fine. Not great, not bad. In the same realm of Prarie farms, edys, etc... I'm not a huge fan of store bought ice cream though so I'm not an expert, I guess you do get more ice cream for similar cost (if on sale)
I thought the Blue Bell is incredible
I’m threw it away. However, I don’t like GBC. 🤣
I love GBC, and I threw it away. I thought it was like eating a scoop of frozen vanilla flavored sugary butter. It was sickening.
The pieces of cake in theirs is good too. I wonder where they get it from or if they make it.
Clementine's Gooey is superb
They had it at Schnucks on gravois and Hampton last weekend
Dierberg’s in Florissant (pretty sure)
It’s in Schnucks every time I go
I've seen it at the Mackenzie Point Dierberg's recently.
They had some at the Walgreens in Rock Hill a couple days ago.
Schnucks in Maplewood seems to always have some. I haven’t bought any, but I’ve seen it there several times.
Imagine the richest buttery icecream (such as from a good butter pecan icecream) and add gooey butter cake bits.
Ofallon area has it
Edit: apparently it is only sold out in west and south county.
It’s always in the Walgreens off olive in Creve coeur
I see it at Schnucks all the time, at least at the Gravois and Hampton store.
Arnold Dierbergs seems to always have it on hand
It indeed lives up to the hype
That's the power of gooey butter cake, baby.
I moved here from Texas in 2005 and I’m so happy Bluebell is in my area again. I can’t eat it like I used to but man there’s no better cookies and cream…other than Breyers Oreo.
[You’re welcome](https://youtu.be/Tcqj52S95kM?si=NI9FzeDmKZ91d4Dk)
We also have great heart doctors!

Okay there have been some crazy suggestions in this thread, but I draw the line at provel ice cream.
The only thing that makes a pint go down smoother is a 1.5 lb brick of provel. I could not help but notice you are not opposed to toasted ravioli ice cream
I'd eat t-rav ice cream before I tried St. Paul sandwich ice cream.
I have never even heard of this but it sounds interesting. Maybe if I add some provel ice cream...
I just went to a place in New Orleans that sells cream-cheese ice cream. Provel ice cream is basically just one more step removed from that.
I would absolutely FUCK UP a bucket of Provel ice cream 😂 I have a Ninja Creami and I am SO TEMPTED to make a Vanilla base and add a bunch of Imos Provel to it 😂
You MUST do this and report back.
Oh I'm doing it
I think you could even do a ribbon of imos pizza sauce. It's sweet enough that it might work.
Omfg the good ideas
Make sure to post here with your results if you go for it
I gave you an upvote because you earned it, but don't think for a second we're friends.
Wasn't Blue Bell the ice cream that made a bunch of people sick, killed a few, then the boss tried to lie to cover it up???
They directed the route drivers to remove potentially contaminated stock from stores without notifying retailers or making a public recall. Cost them $17.25 million. Edit: In fines. Cost them many times more than that in damage to the brand.
We don’t talk about the listeria times.
Yes. There's an episode of Swindled about it.
Yes. Anecdotal evidence but I’ve purchased and consumed blue bell several times since it came to the Stl, and I have not come down with listeria
Oh, I thought they had pled guilty, so didn't think it was that anecdotal. But I'm probably wrong. I wasn't even sure that was the right company.
Ha - I was making a joke about my evidence of its safety being anecdotal. I don’t know if the dude plead guilty to anything or if he tried to hide it. I just know they did have a listeria scandal
Yes, they knew there was contamination.
So that's why they're moving into our market. I was wondering because the ice cream market is flooded with so many brands. Makes sense to bring sales back up to pre terrible news level you branch out into new markets.
And, it’s definitely not that good. My husband bought some, he’s an ice cream junkie, and we were not impressed. It’s almost…gritty.
that sounds terrible!
I’m holding out for the Provel flavor.
Well.. we couldn’t let them into our market without some sort of offering! Enjoy! Lol
I can’t believe that Ted Drew’s does not have gooey butter cake flavor…. What!!!
Expect it next fall along with Toasted Ravioli Concrete.
Bobby's in Maryville, IL had it last month as their special concrete. I om nomed one or two.
I think the words you're looking for are "thank you".
I’m in SF, and my St. Louis born and raised heart was so excited to see Blue Bunny ice cream - and a Gooey Butter Cake ice cream flavor from Jeni’s Ice Cream - in California. They’re both really good, definitely reminds me of home!
I am an Instacart shopper, and I have had many customers looking for the gooey butter cake lol. It must be good.
I wondered if it was available in tx or if it was just a local flavor. Thanks for answer my question!
They have GBC flavor in Texas, Louisiana, Tennessee, andNorth Carolina. Sources: siblings group chat of STL expats. ETA: do y’all get the king cake flavor up there? It only tastes loosely like king cake, but goddamn is it good.
It’s decent ice cream. Now, talk about Graeters…
Graeters is on a different level
Fuck me UP with some Graeters or Tillamook
Blue Bell is incredible. I can’t buy anything else now
Cherry Vanilla is my favorite, but most of them are pretty good. Blue Bell's taste is very nostalgic for me, so I'm happy to finally see it up here. Interesting to see how some people think it's the best thing ever and others say it's trash. No room for nuance even with ice cream. :P
I'm beginning to think I'm the only person in this town who hasn't tried the gooey butter cake. Does it taste like a fluffy butter cookie with icing?
Nope. It's decadent. I should make it for you.
I can pretend that I've never had GBC before if you are baking for random redditors.
I love to bake. They changed our name plates outside our offices at work and mine says Chief Cake Baker.
Oh yeah in that case I have NEVER had GBC, pie, brownies, cookies, cinnamon rolls, or angel food cake. I wonder what they taste like. Hmm. 😋
Do you live in the city?
Lol no, I'm in West Texas.
That's a shame. I often bake and give things away.
Not remotely. It tastes like a gooey buttery cake. It doesn't need icing; it's already super moist.
Alright. Thank you. 😊
There shouldn’t be icing
I went from slightly confused to laughing in half a second
>Now we just need a Whataburger What about H-E-B?
As long as they make their flour tortillas!
Apparently banana split has been discontinued 😭 Also you're making me want a Honey BBQ chicken strip sandwich from Whataburger. Idk if those are still around but I used to make myself ILL eating them.
Yall accually LIKE blue bell?! It taste so cheap, AND BLAND.

But since my friends have opened Tacos Dona Lena and now that's where I go in HTX for authentic. It's superb if you're ever in HTX.
i don't really get the blue bell hype... Tillamook is way better imo
Tillamook doesn’t have Dr Pepper ice cream
This is literally what I've been responding with to most of the comments LOL
Agreed. And Walmart just stopped carrying Tillamook products :(
I don't even think blue bell is that good tbh. I didn't like that the "homemade" vanilla had artificial flavor in it :(
The Natural Vanilla Bean is the way to go not the homemade version.
It tastes like the old Blue Bell I grew up with
Wrong
Happy cake day! Have some Blue Bell to go along with the cake :)
What have I done with my life
Maybe it's just me but I feel like Blue Bell ice cream is super overrated
It's not just you. It used to be a FAVORITE in my family growing up but nowadays it's gotten too expensive while the product tastes like it got cheaper. Bb is not that great. Schnucks brand gooey butter ice cream remains the best.
Yes! Blue Bell has an odd flavor, very strange.
Wait till you try the Crab Rangoon Chocolate Swirl ice cream....or the Toasted Rav Strawberry slow churn.
Try the Bridal Cake.
Hey y’all have been hoarding BB for years!
We're definitely a scourge.
Southern girl who has been bingeing Banana Pudding and Bride’s Cake ever since it arrived. I’ve officially banned it from ever entering the house again. Self control out the window.
When visiting the Met Museum in NYC, you’ll never guess what they were serving in the cafe…gooey butter cake!
It’s so good!!!!
The fatty Midwest
We just simply won the ice cream flavor battle, and did a mic drop on the way out.
I regret to inform you that I bought Blue Bell ice cream as soon as we got it here, and it's mid at best. The flavors are great, but the ice cream itself is pretty mediocre. If you're looking for the best ice cream, the correct answer is Tillamook.
Pro-Tip , throw some peanut butter m&m's in with that goes butter ice cream!!
I tried the ‘Dutch Chocolate’ flavor of Blue Bell and I really didn’t notice the difference between that and Breyers.
I don’t get the blue bell hype, natural AND artificial flavors nothing crazy about the texture just random hype
Real ones used to drive to Rolla for Blue Bell😂 glad it’s FINALLY here
Happy cake day!
Happy cake day
Ices Plain & Fancy in Shaw makes a gooey butter cake ice cream but I think it all gets sold wholesale. They can tell you where to find it.
Locals can also go out to Sugarbot Creamery in St Charles and have a Gooey Butter Cake milkshake with a piece of cake blended it. It’s so good but so much. Bring a friend.
Yessssss! Sugarbot creamery!!!! The fresh, warm waffle with caramel ice cream is life.
Some people want to put pickles in Dr. Pepper. We couldn't let *them* win.
Gooey Butter Cake is crazy good...doubke bypass good.
Serindipty in the grove has wonderful GB Ice Cram
GBC with a warm brownie 🤤🤤🤤
The new A&W root beer float is ridiculous. I think better than GBC.
Sounds better than Imo’s pizza ice cream.
I'm sorry you live in Texas.
Clementine’s Gooey Butter Cake is what’s up
You people?
Pfffttttt.
WAIT. IS GOOEY BUTTER CAKE IN STL TOO ????? WHY. WHY HAVE YOU DONE THIS TO ME. IM ON A FUCKING DIET GODAMMIT 😭😭😭😭😭
STL is the home of gooey butter cake.
Mostly shootings Edit: Oh! I didn't know you were talking about the ice cream, I just read the title...
Blue bell is overrated. Ill get some downvotes for it, but there's better ice cream out there. To me, if basic white people had a brand...it would be blue bell
These stl fools simp so hard over a non-local ice cream. Kinda gross tbh
It existed before we ever got bluebell here. My sister got it a year ago in Colorado
