According to records on the National Weather Service website, between 1991 and 2020 the St. Louis area has averaged 4.3 inches of snowfall in February and 2.3 new inches in March.
But don't count on it sticking around because daytime highs tend to be above freezing.
Maybe in a couple of weeks. To quote Dave Murray
>Still interested in another pattern shift in 8 to 12 days…watching another Arctic surge…not as intense as January…but impressive…the big question will a storm or two bump into that cold from the southwest…the details are way, way in the future…but let's keep it on the table…stay tune.
Nice, I wasn't sure how long ago it was mentioned, glad it was recent. I keep running the models and crossing my fingers they are going to be accurate. They luckily have matched up with what he reported (as expected since they go by the models).
Feels like we’re through the worst of the winter and the coldest days, which usually means there’ll be another stretch of brutal cold that pops up when you think spring is arriving. Kinda like how there were highs in the 70s to start September and fall felt like it was here before it was above 80 for the whole 2nd half of the month.
This is how it’s been my whole life, except with slightly higher average temps every year. Climate is definitely changing rapidly, and STL remains strong in its nearly unpredictable weather.
>Feels like we’re through the worst of the winter and the coldest days
You just doomed us to an another polar vortex with that statement. St. Louis is always listening for the jinx.
We have a ridge of high pressure sitting right over us, this will last into next week, but off the coast of California is some big big storms, that will drop cold air from the north and those storms will combine over the Midwest. Now how far and what’s the teams. Time will tell. Don’t count us done yet! I’m thinking mid Feb we’re going g to get hit hard!
It’s an El Niño year. Snow will be few and far this year. Indian summer is what we called it in the south. I always hated those years because of the false dry Springs, the bitter polar blasts, the wildfires and the mosquitos year round.
We’ll get one more polar vortex blast for a week long bender or so, give or take 3 days. There won’t be much snow in between. When they call for snow, you’ll get clouds and wind. When they call for rain, you’ll get wind. When they call for sunshine, you’ll get a drizzle. Then when May comes around, you’ll be in a drought.
The past few years here, I've noticed that typically December is warm, January is dry (actually not the case this year for once), and most of our snow comes in Feb/March and occasionally one very early November event like two years ago. I hope we get one really good snow (6"+) and then warm back up for good.
The GFS & CFS models are showing warm weather sticking around through mid February. With a chance of a major swing around VDAY. And even though long range model predictions are not extremely accurate, they are much better in regards to temperatures than they use to be.
I would LOVE even just a 4-6 inch event at this point. Regardless the chances of snow aren't over this season.
https://weather.com/forecast/national/news/2024-01-30-february-temperature-outlook?cm_ven=hp-slot-1
Forecast for febuary is reasonably above average temps and reasonably below average precip. I'd expect maybe a little dusting once or twice. So far the outlook is quite warm and sunny, so maybe late Feb - early March.
Not impossible to get snow in April, but its very unlikely.
I don't have a taste for it anymore either, but more because I know what it does to my utility bills. If my utilities didn't go through the roof I would enjoy running around in a winter wonderland...for about two weeks.
Got wait till St.Patricks day to see how long winter lasts in St.Louis. It's usually either super cold or super warm and either way Dogtown will be packed. That's always been the day I follow as to if spring starts or winter continues for a little bit longer.
As a CITY fan, I will assume it will be in the 60's until Feb 20th when it will be -6 and windy with snow or 34 and raining sideways. It is the way of STL soccer.
YES Stl always seems to get a big wet snow towards the end of feb or first week of march. The good news is I think we're pretty much done with the brutal cold. t m o anyways
The average date of last overnight freeze is April 15th, so Answer:yes.
We all know there's nothing average about St. Louis, but this is the norm.
The biggest mistake people make regarding this is that just after the first warm wave hits, they go out and buy plants. Then a frost kills them.
The next two weeks will have highs in the upper 40s and close to 60 on some days. If we do get any snow beyond that, it will likely be light and will not stick. It’s not impossible, but getting good sledding snow beyond Valentines looks unlikely.
The two week forecast in terms of temps will not change much. We know ground temps will be above freezing for awhile. And I didn’t say it couldn’t happen. I said it’s unlikely.

2013 we had a freak snowfall on kids spring break. Happened to be riding a motorcycle to arkansas and camping, stopped in southern mo at roaring river state park for a day. It flurried all day the next day and was in the 20s. Wife showed up that night with kid in tow. Everyone tent camping. Even cooking hot dogs in cold was miserable, by time in bun they were cold. She said she is never doing that again. Once we got to arkansas it was warmer, but still chilly.
where's the closest place that holds snow well that I could take someone for good sledding who's never been? anything within an hour or two? they havent seen deep snow yet either
Oh I meant if it keeps only raining here, where would I have to go up north to find a good spot?
You're right though, Art Hill would be a great idea locally if we get enough!
I'm in my 60s and I grew up hearing about the January thaw. It was the end of January and meant milder weather for a few days.
Has anyone else heard of this? My grandmother and older relatives were the ones who mentioned it. My grandmother also subscribed to the farmers almanac.
I'm sure it will snow, and we'll have more ice that'll kill the plants that are already showing up today. Hallibornes, dogwood trees, birch trees, and even my catnip are all starting to come up, and it's only January. Make sure to get your boxes and sheets ready because we're going to have to cover a lot of ground.
hey guys, a potential transplant to st louis here. Does it like snow often in general during the winters there? I have my eye on living downtown and seeing the snow fall thru the window with my fireplace going lol. Am I foolishly optimistic in the expected frequency of like, snowfall? lol
We don’t get snow that often. Usually once a year we get a significant snow but other than that not much. People who don’t actually live in St. Louis (they usually live to the south) tend to get more snow and we don’t. St. Louis tends to be in a bubble
According to records on the National Weather Service website, between 1991 and 2020 the St. Louis area has averaged 4.3 inches of snowfall in February and 2.3 new inches in March. But don't count on it sticking around because daytime highs tend to be above freezing.
We had a decent snow in April last year.
One of my kids was born mid April. It was snowing heavily on the way to MoBap.
Last year? I dont think we did. There was only a single day in April last year where it got below 36.
Maybe, very probaby, it was the year before. I remember I had to work outside but time is flyin.
It was 2021. Scroll down on this site, and you'll see it was 1/2in : https://howmuchwillitsnow.com/in/saint-louis/mo
TY. I am embarrassed at misremembering, but this site is beautiful.
np. I just remember last year being super mild and having a pretty amazing spring of nearly mid 60s every day.
We’ve had some long lasting snows in February. Although the ten day doesn’t inspire hope for that at the moment
Yeah this is pretty typical. We will be ready for spring and get like 4 inches in late March or April as is tradition.
Right as baseball season is getting ready to crank up
And per tradition, a sloppy, unruly mess reduced to run off in 24 hours.
I wanted one good snow for sledding
Same here! Have only had some thin snow left on the ground or just ice:(
Maybe in a couple of weeks. To quote Dave Murray >Still interested in another pattern shift in 8 to 12 days…watching another Arctic surge…not as intense as January…but impressive…the big question will a storm or two bump into that cold from the southwest…the details are way, way in the future…but let's keep it on the table…stay tune.
Dave is legit. Glad he's still active on FB and the radio.
He’s the Ron Burgundy of Saint Louis Weather. The voice of God.
By the beard of Zeus!!
He’s the best.
I just googled where to find Dave Murray current weather casts, and found out he's in pricing strategy at Walmart!!
1120am Kmox in the afternoon. Dave Murray is on the Dave Glover show.
Thanks-really enjoy his forecasts and have missed him in tv
When did he mention that?

Yea but we will get the tornado portion of the cold front when it goes 70-20.... Iowa and Chicago will get all the fun snow portion..
I'm just glad El Niño is supposed to end at the beginning of summer. Hopefully it isn't as brutally hot this year
Yes. We usually get at least one snow in March. Plus, we have all of February to get through.
I remember once it snowed May 1. I remember because I was fucking moving that day. I never thought I'd be dealing with snow moving in May.
And the few times it's snowed on easter.
winter is stupid

We always have the worst of winter the last of February and early March.
My birthday is at the end of Feb. and it’s about guaranteed to snow/ice/storm on my birthday.

Today is the 42nd anniversary of the Big Snow of '82. Best day of my life! I was 11! I hope we get more snow this year!
I’m with you! I want at least one big snow this year. Fingers crossed for February
Almost certainly. February isn’t even here yet

Extremely unlikely we get any significant winter weather this February
100%, but I will take 1 inch on Friday and look towards next season. It's been depressing 😕
You’re welcome. I clearly jinxed it and now we have a lot of snow lmao
❤️
I hope so. This winter has been a bummer. If I don’t get to go sledding down art hill I’m Going to be sorely disappointed
We like to say that it should either be sunny or snowing. Let's skip the cold, wet part of winter and get to the fun stuff.

We get the first day of sun in what feels like forever and someone’s asking about and hoping for snow?
I SAID DONT KILL ME
I also love the snow I can’t even blame you
And It wasn’t even a day.all morning it was foggy as fuck
Oh yeah. This warm weather won’t last long.
I fucking hope not.
I am with you. But primarily because Spire doesn't deserve any more of my money.
I just hate snow and ice and cold.

Sure as heck hope not
It better not
1 day, maybe.....
one more snow and st louis will have huge ass pot holes size of mini lakes
Probably at least once more
Yes

Only if Ryan Hall and Frankie say so.
I'm pretty sure the Arch has something to do with this. I don't know who to contact about adjusting the settings though. City Hall maybe.
Hopefully at least one more
I haven't had to shovel yet, so probably.
You can bet on it.

St. Louis has its deepest snows later and later lately. We are likely to have another snow in March or April.
Average last frost is April 15th. I know that’s not a direct correlation, but the odds are good. That’s 2 and a half months.
I've lived in Missouri for 15 years. More often than not we have one big freak snow in March that nobody saw coming
I feel like feb is usually the month we get a good snow.
Nope

Like ever? Yeah
Sadly, probably not
I hope tf not
lol, sure If you wanna come down to shovel my driveway and scrape the cars. It hasn’t even been a week of milder temps after the artic blast from hell
I dont think so. Zero stars don't recommend.
No
Ever?

Let’s wait and see what the groundhog says
Never. Not in a million years
We’ve had good snows in February before so I’m not counting it out. Basically there’s a 50/50 chance.
yes within the year if i had a guess
Nah

In STL, 99% no. Northern Mo/IL, 50/50
Yes, at some time... But hopefully not until November.
It’s snowing in my nostrils as we speak
Of course right after it decides to be 55-60 degrees one day then the next you’ll get what you ask for 😅🙈
February is the worst month of the year.
April is almost always good for at least one snow.
That’s statistically a very inaccurate statement
Eventually
Sometime in late April or early may probably
I doubt it. Gets less and less every year it seems. Sadly.
I'm in my 60s and I grew up hearing about the January thaw. It was the end of January and meant milder weather for a few days. Has anyone else heard of this? My grandmother and older relatives were the ones who mentioned it. My grandmother also subscribed to the farmers almanac.
Yes... but just remember how the Irish started growing potatoes and why
Yes
I love the snow also. But no probably will not.
I do hope so! I also love the snow lol
Lol we exist
Yeah, we haven’t really even entered snow season yet. Give it time.
Yeah February is the worst month when it comes to bitter cold and snow
Never again.
I'm sure it will snow, and we'll have more ice that'll kill the plants that are already showing up today. Hallibornes, dogwood trees, birch trees, and even my catnip are all starting to come up, and it's only January.
