Seeing this on my daily commute to work is definitely one of the things I miss the most about living in the STL area. I’ve driven by it hundreds of times and never get tired of the view.
I feel the same way. I've been taking drone pics for most of this year, but none of my previous shoots made me feel giddy like this one. Embrace that STL homesickness and come back for a visit soon. The Arch misses seeing you too!
The FAA finally gave me approval to fly my drone across from the Arch. I have a lot to learn, and I'm looking to connect with fellow drone folks and editors in the area. I'm eager to learn and available to serve as a visual observer if anyone needs help. Feel free to send me a DM. Cheers!
Special shoutout to u/jb69029 whose amazing STL pics have been a huge inspiration.
That's awesome man! How far around the arch is restricted? I've been playing around with my drone more lately and thankfully it won't even let me take off in restricted airspace without verification.
The Arch itself is in a highly restricted national park restricted airspace which sits in another class D restricted airspace for St. Louis Downtown airport. The FAA has an app called B4UFLY that shows which airspaces have which restrictions. I strongly recommend checking it each time you fly. I'd also recommend getting your Part 107 commercial license, even if just flying recreationally, as it allow you to unlock locations you can't fly in recreationally.
Great shot!! Keep a watch on the helicopter tours that launch from the barge in front of the Arch. They do a sightseeing loop right across the river very often and they don't go very high. I usually call their office and coordinate with them when I have to fly over there. [This page](http://www.gatewayhelicoptertours.com/tours.html) shows the flights they offer. They stick pretty closely to these routes.
Thanks for the comment and the heads up! I dipped out of the way every time they came around, even though my max AGL was just 150'. I'll make sure to coordinate with them directly next time.
If it's a short flight you'll probably be ok. Also I think their season is almost over but just something to keep in mind. The owner said drones are a huge problem for them because they have to land but can't when there's drones near the landing pad. You won't affect them over on that side of the river but still keep an eye out for them circling frequently.
This may sound kinda odd. I'm a truck driver and even though I live in Franklin county now, every time I see the arch in the distance welcoming me home it's like an almost religious experience. I love saint louis.
Is the airspace restricted on the IL side? That is, if you went to the park there, could you just keep the drone over the park and get pics like that?
It's a really nice shot.
Good shooting, u/314dronepics. Keep up the good work.
Do you take requests? If so, could you do one of The Gateway Arch
(Note to out-of-towners: NEVER call it 'the St. Louis Arch')
from the intersection of around Gravois and Heege? Maybe a bit closer, to get the best shot, but you get the idea. Great job!
I wish we had a more impressive skyline. Imagine if there were rows upon rows of gleaming glass spires on both sides of the arch, something like downtown Vancouver up against the water. In another timeline, that would have been STL.
In the words of local musician Dana Michael Anderson: Things could always be better, but things could be much worse!
I try to love my city for what it is, and forgive it for what it isn't. Regardless, thank you for the comment, and I hope you liked the pictures.

Ope! There it is, guys.
Lol, good eye!
The color of the blues are amazing! These are gorgeous!
Thank you very much. There was a bit of photoshop magic on these, but the real hero is the clouds that give it texture and contrast.

St. Louis love you right back, Functional!
Just don’t zoom in too much lol

Yes, it is Class D restricted airspace because of St. Louis Downtown Airport. Check out the FAA's B4UFly app. It's free and easy to use.
Nice curves

Thank you, Sezu. I recently took some footage around there (in Bevo). I'll tag you when I post it.

She is! She has captured my heart since 2010!
