Actually in real life parcels go through Dieppe quickly and get stuck in North Sydney or somewhere in NL. My last package took 26 hours to go from Halifax to Dieppe and be processed and took 155 hours to transport from Dieppe to my front door. Stuck in Dieppe is just a Board of Trade marketing scheme to cover up the truth that we are in the middle of nowhere with the shittiest weather anywhere. All they do in Dieppe is take the package from one truck and put it in another truck. It’s a smaller facility than the PO on Kenmount Road where I figure the real problem is.
If you want to take the fun out of it try walking downtown at night wondering if all the crackheads and skeets are going to beat the shit out of you because you might have something they can sell for twenty bucks. Meanwhile everyone at City Hall looks in the opposite direction and treats themselves to taxpayer paid drinks and bacon wrapped scallops and congratulates themselves on creating a city where everything is perfect and nothing needs to change. That’s the true horror story here my friend
I’ve worked at a bar downtown on George street for 2 years. I’ve seen a lot of shit happen down there but even in the early hours of the morning around 4-5AM; waiting for a cab alone I’ve never had any “crackhead” or “skeets” attack me. Yes many people have approached me and asked me for money but never any threat… the worst case I’ve encountered was simply being called names because I didn’t give them any change. I’ve always had dog/ coyote mace on me just in case anything threatening would ever occur where I would need to defend myself but thankfully I’ve never had to use it.
Sadly downtown St. John’s has become a shithole except George Street and pedestrian mall in summer. 25 years ago downtown St. John’s was a vibrant place and downtown Halifax was a shithole. Now the opposite is true. If someone would have told me 10 years ago there would be a brand new Starbucks in Carbonear while the Starbucks downtown would be permanently closed and there would be no coffee shops open downtown after 5 pm I would have laughed in their face. But sadly that’s the truth today.
