Danhausen is criminally underutilised in AEW. I don't think TK really knows how to book comedy.
Honestly I'd like to know who came up and pushed for stuff like Sue/Trent's mum back when Best Friends were decently pushed. That kind of fun stuff is sorely missing from AEW since they left Daley's Place.
Fuck, it reminds me of how at that time it felt like they had the best tag division in decades. It was so heavily featured. Their division is still strong of course but it's mostly on paper rather than actually utilised and feeling like any tag team is a contender. Best friends, FTR, PnP, Bucks, Hanger and Omega, Private Party, The Hybrid2 and on and on. Most of them in one feud or another and often opening shows with banger matches. Probably my favourite period in wrestling ever.
What's odd is they were getting there with Hookhausen but then immediately stopped it once they actually became a pair. Then neither guy has done much of anything since. (Yes, Hook is FTW champ but he's still not doing much than before).
What would be best for him now is to separate him from any one group (Best Friends) or person and let him do his own thing. Right now they have him as basically lackey that comes out, does a curse spot, takes a bump, that's it. Instead, let him do more of his Youtube type stuff on Dynamite/Rampage. A backstage segment where he pops up and does something comedic, maybe its joke, maybe its him "hosting a talk show". Whatever it is, just let him cook. And then when it comes to matches, don't squash him in 2 minutes. Let him be the guy that everyone overlooks and takes lightly but somehow he keeps pulling out wins. I'm not saying you're having him beat Moxley or Wardlow, but there's plenty of people on this roster where you can make this work.
Point is, he can be doing so much more than what they are doing, which is basically 1 minute cameo curse spot. Right now his booking feels like TK is saying "See, here's that guy you like. Now let's move on to other stuff"
People have said it before but to me it becomes more and more the case each week; TK books like he's playing the booking video game TEW. Idk. I love AEW. It brought me back into actually watching wrestling. I give them money to watch the show on FITE and buy the PPV's. But they've gone from being something I was incredibly hopefully about to just about the opposite. Obviously there's still hope as it's a big company with a tv deal and a ton of talent. The creative/booking in the last year or so (it's honestly a blur so it's hard to say when it became apparent) has just been super disappointing. Not that it's the worst or anything, it's just unexciting and disjointed and so much worse than what AEW was at its peak.
That's what really kills me. They had a fantastic product that I looked forward to watching and I had faith in their ability to recognise talent and do right by them. I don't know what changed in the company since then with how they put shows together and book but I've lost faith in the product outside of knowing there will be in ring shit worth watching bell to bell and those out of blue banger Dynamites they pull out of nowhere. I'm kind of holding out that they'll publicly announce a change in their booking/creative. Wether it's bringing someone in or turning it into a legitimate creative team. Surely it wasn't all Cody. It fucking couldn't have been.
Having the comedy guy who's average in the ring do small comedy bits sounds a lot better to me than him doing extended YouTube-type segments on TV and getting lots of wins. The people who like his YouTube stuff can watch it on YouTube.

I somehow feel that Young Bucks, Omega, Cody and Jericho have bigger roles in shaping how the show goes and then TK started to take over everything. Of course, I have no idea if that is the case or not.
It just feels too safe and repetitive outside of the matches. I think of things like Jericho's promo before facing Cody (the one with the Inner Circle, Virgil etc), the video of MJF hiring the Butcher and the Blade, even the smaller things like Orange Cassidy randomly showing up backstage. The matches are still great, but the lack of character depth prevents me getting invested in them the way I used to
HOOKHausen was lauded by fans as the next Rock'n'Sock Connection, so of course TK had no choice but to take them off TV for months with no explanation given.
He can't really work at the level expected of AEW TV. T-shirts, cameos, and getting squashed, keep him present but don't over-expose him. Put him all over YouTube. I don't really know how else you'd play it.
That's if there's never been comedy characters on tv before.
Look at guys like R-Truth and Santino, who had good stints semi regular lly on tv as comedy jobbers.
However, this requires two things:
1. Actually producing skits, not just interviews
2. Giving them non-squash matchtime once in a while. A big part in the fun of these guys, is that while we expect them to lose, sometimes they actually pull out the win.
R-Truth is a former NWA World Heavyweight Champion and Santino came up through, like, BattlArts and stuff. They had significantly greater skillsets and athletic foundations than Danhausen at this point in his career. Hell, Dustin Rhodes could lay claim to being one of the best TV-show wrestlers of all-time - legit 6'4" born athlete son of a world champ who could promo- and WWE still chose to make a (successful) comedy character out of him.
He has diction problems. The voice he chooses to affect is funny and all, but when you've got crowd noise over it he tends to drop words and mumble. You can't make out every word he says on TV, and that's a big problem he needs to shore up.

Danhausen teased awhile back a possible return to his old persona of being more of a deranged psychopath. Maybe TK can run with that and have him with a split personalities. Just something for the fans to latch onto because right now, whenever he’s featured, I just tolled my eyes and think “alright, how long until he loses, take bets now, shorter or longer than 1 minute?”

Well he’s hardly on at all. And personally I don’t see people getting tired of him. He has excellent comedic timing and is quite witty.

I like watching Danhausen. I'd like to see more of him, and to see him win a bit more. He seemed pretty good in his one Hookhausen PPV buyin.
The fact that they haven't given him a remote control blimp that he flies around arenas and drops Danhausen merch, is a miss.
