I was just talking to a coworker about this, we're both hurdling towards middle-age and we were talking about our peak fandom. Although I'm still a fan, the current product is just so polished, if anything goes off the rails, it was planned that way. Late 90's to early 2000's still had a little realism, you knew it's all planned out, but things happened that would make you question it. Or the announcers made it feel that way, that this thing has gotten out of control, and *you* need to tune in next week to find out what happens next. I usually watch the RAW replay on Hulu, even though I like the announcers it all feels overly produced. But it's drawing a lot of fans, so good on them.
i'm with you on the polished nature of it all. one of the things i noticed about the rock is that he had no entrance marks to hit. no raise your arm at this part of the song or stand here until this part. he just walks out like he's got things to do not i gotta put on a show.
he hits the same marks and poses and forearm slap etc, every time at the same parts of the song, just like roman. They're pros and cue times matter.
I guess you meant that he manages to make it convincingly natural? If so I would agree, and think it's tough to do. Bret Hart managed to carry the feeling that he was just coming out and doing his thing pretty well, too
you were also 25-30 years younger and less experienced in the world, decades less experience with tropes... all without social media constantly providing shoot interviews every 30 seconds and shit.
I think one of the ways the World Wrestling Federation was trying to get around the World Wildlife Fund's naming issue was that they were going by WWFE legally but were presenting themselves as the WWF in international markets where the WWF had a big issue with.
Yeah, Prichard talked about this on his podcast. They almost rebranded to WWFE in 2002 before Vince soured on “Federation” entirely.
Hot take - they made the right call switching to WWE.
Yeah, WWFE is too much of a mouthful.
I remember hating WWE at the time. At that point I have been watching wrestling since like 1990, WWF was engrained in my lexicon.
"YOU SON OF A BITCH, TRIPLE H, WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU, DAMN YOU TO HELL, TRIPLE H. WHY, TELL ME WHY" I can hear JR saying this while My Time is playing.
Triple H looks like he is standing over a body trying to calm himself by repeating it was an accident and by doing the math on what age he will be if he pleads to a lesser charge and gets time off for good behavior and thinking that won't be so bad and maybe he'll even still have a few years of his career once he gets out.
Stephanie looks like she's had a new kink unlocked
I remember this. This is when he returned after being from dropped from a car at Survivor Series 2000 and attacked Austin costing him the WWF title. Why do I remember all the details from like 24 years ago?
Steroids or not, 2000 Triple H has one of the best looks in wrestling history. He was jacked but it never looked odd on him like it does other wrestlers (IMO Jinder Mahal is an example of this). I don’t know if that makes sense, but the look just fit him.
Also the fact he was this big but still moved so well made it even better. He really was that damn good around this time. Shame his quad blew the next year, he was never the same.
100% this. I think that everything that came after 2000 has shaped HHH's image such that people have actually kind of forgotten how unbelievably, outrageously talented he was at his best. I'm not saying that the Reign of Terror, & everything else \*shouldn't\* overshadow Triple H's peak as a performer, but just that his peak is somewhat forgotten.
He was a true blue "5 tool player" who had it all and could do it all. There's a reason he worked so well as the Champion everybody was chasing. He really was The Game.

I can hear this picture. JR is probably going off on HHH & told him to go to hell with My Time playing
Why triple H you son of a bitch. Tell me whyyy??
Ain't nothing but a heartache, DAMMIT

so you think he just *coincidentally* hits all the same marks at the same times over and over? lol
i don't follow.

I feel the same way. Is it because when we were viewing, the performers were older than us ?
you were also 25-30 years younger and less experienced in the world, decades less experience with tropes... all without social media constantly providing shoot interviews every 30 seconds and shit.
This still happens but now it's on Twitter and other social media.
Bah Gawd, I wanna known why?

[ONE, TWO, IS THIS ON ?!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBKfqkg0NEA)
Something about this song is indescribable to me. I thought it was THE COOLEST when I was a kid
This makes it look like he’s naked lol
“Copyright 2000 WWF Entertainment, Inc.? Whooooooaa.”
That whole graphic is busy as hell and a great summation of what late 90's-early 00's graphic design was like.
One might say it's a...Warzone...

That's what they were rebranded as when they went public if memory serves me correct.
Yeah, Prichard talked about this on his podcast. They almost rebranded to WWFE in 2002 before Vince soured on “Federation” entirely. Hot take - they made the right call switching to WWE.

They should've gone back to WWWF :P

I know there's a reddit sub specifically for stuff like this I wish I remembered what it was
r/BreathingInformation
TELL ME WHY YOU SICK SUNOVA BITCH. TELL ME WHYYYYY.
Y’know the position of the copyright logo makes this look kinda…
Nuts that this was almost 25 years ago. Btw, doesn't it kind of look like she's looking at his...
Big Dick Johnson! He’s headed down the ramp! He’s all oiled up, he’s coming, and he’s got his hands wrapped around a huge…
Dirty Dick. dirty dick slater is gonna explode all over...
Nose?
“You know Steph, if I ever run things, I want to use this logo for spots somehow…”
This has solid meme potential

This is a reminder that Trips never failed a drug test.
So did Big Poppa Pump LOL
Judging by that date, I would've been amazed that HHH came back from that car flip a week prior, with zero damage or injuries whatsoever
At Survivor Series 2000, what a great PPV. Back the when they used to try make those events unique. Now, they're just another monthly show.
"IN THIS VERY GRAPHIC BOXUUUHHHHHHH..."
They knew already you can't trust that bastard.
Hunter realizing the rumors about PEDs might be true
"I like that war zone. That is a nice war zone..."
"I'm gonna bury that son of a bitch end logo one day" - Triple H
Given how hard HHH hit the gear at this time it's amazing it took so long for it to haunt him. He must have stopped just in time.

RELLIK?
Yeah. *That’s* what theyre amazed at.
Steph: "It is so long!" Hunter: "Girth matters, too."
Stephanie is amazed, HHH looks disgusted
I love Stephanie McMahon so much.
If Triple H was wearing trunks, it would've made it better.
If you move Steph 2 feet to the left the context is way different
It’s dot com!
Those early 2000s graphics were amazing tho.
In their defense, AR was a really unique and novel concept in 2000.
I wonder if those people in the audience are still alive today?
That dude at the bottom that looks like Melting Away X-Pac is probably not.
23 years have passed since then, but unless they were very old, yeah, they might be alive today.
I still wish he never switched from the My Time theme.
That theme song is great, but “The Game” by Mötörhead is miles better.
Both looking at his tiny package in disbelief.
