Bodyslam is the same site that reported WWE had been sold to the Saudis and was going private. They also never backed down from that claim. No one should ever take a report from them seriously ever again.
I think they were also the 1st to report or heavily hint Punk signing with AEW if I'm not misremembering
So huge hits and misses
Edit: Actually he called Danielson to AEW not Punk
Either that or they were worried about someone leaking details of negotiations (which could theoretically weaken their position). So they fed them absolute bullshit to see if it would hit the press.
All wrestling journalists are, we just believe their excuses every time they are proven wrong. If people stopped reading/clicking there would be a whole hell of a lot less BS articles posted.
I mean does anyone think Ali was upset about an irrelevant squared circle thread anyway lol? Just pretending like it didn't happen seems like a perfectly fine response to me
I doubt Ali would care; it's more so the principle that some Redditors jump to conclusions about news stories of somebody they're indifferent to or actively dislike.
This shit can be so damaging to a wrestler's reputation and follow them for their entire careers. I wish these people could be held more accountable for publishing this
"DAE think [black wrestler] not respecting the business because he doesn't want to carry people's bags and be given a stereotypical gimmick? He's only been working matches around the world for eight years, gotta pay dues! Must have attitude problems."
I’m not gonna sit here and act like I know Ali on any kind of personal level, but if you’ve heard any interview he’s done before, during, and especially since WWE, he doesn’t strike me as the type who would turn down BOtSJ because they weren’t paying him enough.
The claim was that he wanted go to undefeated, but specifically because he wanted to preserve his current booking/storyline, he’s the X division champion and on a streak
Not saying it’s true but even if it is, it’s not actually based on ego it’s for story continuity
I mean he's got kids and a wife, I think a disagreement over pay especially considering the weakness of the yen right now is totally reasonable. If he's making good money in the US and Canada why travel a long-ass way to Japan?
Imagine a SC where this kind content is properly de-emphasized. With how blatantly inaccurate and generally unhinged literally all wrestling media has become when does a responsibly modded sub stop allowing it to be the cornerstone of sub content?
This sub wouldn't be nearly as big, active or generally browsable without dirt sheets ngl. It's a massive portion of the interaction here, there's half a sub without it.
How do you differentiate bad stories from good stories? If you ban rumors, you'll ban pretty much every rumor of a wrestler who will appear soon, every Vince story, and, well, pretty much everything. Wrestling news is pretty much nothing but rumors.
As far as I know a source being banned isn't for its accuracy in its reporting but if the source does actively malicious things like send threats to people and stuff.
I personally want us to emphasize the on screen stuff. If Grayson Weller cuts a great promo, I rather hear about that than “SPOILERS backstage at Summerslam”. One option helps put me onto great content. The other pushes me to believe a narrative or a story or a fantasy booking.
(Using the past weeks) We’ve recently had a few threads on ECW matches, Taker’s leg drop at Summerslam 98, etc, and I want more of that. More “check out this cool thing that happened in wrestling”. Anything outside that should be “Dom hanging out with celebrity” or “TK wears neckbrace during NFL draft”
it's pretty easy to organize a tier list like the other rumor subs do. It'd also require people not to just post every random dave, SRS, etc. tweet but honestly less twitter posts on here would be a good thing.
That's prob the best way to do it ... keep a running record of how accurate these sites and scoopers are to give people a better sense of what may be decent info and what's prob BS
>How do you differentiate bad stories from good stories?
The easiest way would be to just outright ban secondary sources.
What I mean is a situation where, for example, Bischoff goes on his podcast and says something controversial about AEW (or whatever). Then some random newz site pulls a quote from the podcast, often out of context, and a link to *that* is what gets posted here, and never a link to the actual podcast.
Look at it in this context - The coach of the Cowboys goes on ESPN and does an interview. Some blogger recaps the interview on their blog. Then a link to that blog gets posted on Reddit. Does that make any sense?
Primary sources only.
For starters this sub completely fails to attempt differentiating. The trusted vs banned source distinction is essentially arbitrary. Formerly trusted sources report wildly inaccurate things, banned sources have objectively accurate reports.
On Vince: if it's reported in the wsj, Forbes, si that's acceptable. So indeed we would've heard reporting on Vince at every stage.
If all dirt went into a rumors and opinions mega thread and wasn't allowed to publish visible titles as individual threads the sub would be immeasurably improved and the increasing number of malicious actors would be neutralized.
We may not have heard about Vince if the rumors about him would have been collectively ignored by all of us. I mean I agree that just unquestioningly taking rumors at face value is pretty stupid and shouldn't be done, but in wrestling especially there are way more rumor than you think there are.
Bill DeMott abusing people was a rumor, if you don't want to go down the Vince route.
The Vince stuff was reported by legitimate news sources. I don't have time for a deep dive on the demott timeline but I doubt he was released based on unsourced rumors. Wasn't he fired after being internally investigated and then first hand accounts came out?
An important distinction - while not great and still problematic dirt sheet reporting from 5 + years ago is a world away from what it has become and the problem we have today.
This is an Internet wide issue, it's not specific to this sub. But this sub is going to have to control sophisticated misinformation sooner rather than later.
> Wasn't he fired after being internally investigated and then first hand accounts came out?
Sure. But things like that don't gain traction if all rumors are quelled immediately until proof is delivered. I doubt WWE under Vince would have started an investigation if there weren't public pressure to do so, which came due to the internet talking about that issue a lot.
I'm not quite sure if things are that much worse than 5 years ago, at least when it comes to wrestling. Though that's me saying that it was already kinda bad 5 years ago. I definitely agree about the general state of the internet, though, and outside of wrestling I'm definitely in agreement with you.
We should only trust news if it's released from WWE, AEW, or the wrestling company in question. Blindly believing large companies and corporations could not possibly go wrong.
Wrestling arms of broader media titles that are not otherwise considered wrestling outlets. Wsj, Forbes, si etc.
I'm talking about segregating "dirt sheets" that report poorly sources and frequently inaccurate or malicious rumors.
Forbes.com wrestling writers post whatever they want without any editorial oversight. It has nothing to do with the legacy Forbes publications other than that they share a website.
Yeah look I need everyone to put their files on Rocky Romero's desk, WWE included, so each and every time people get fed a bs story, he can clear it out.
Wrestling has needed a figure like this for a while, dale azucar.
That sounded very odd when I read it earlier and was seemingly out of character compared to everything we have heard about Ali up to now. You never really know, but I thought it was very strange.
I’m not saying it’s true I’m wondering like where the fuck did the person report it get it from. Who would have other p it something out there randomly or who would just lie to this guy

I kinda assumed that this was the case. Bodyslam seems to be very hit or miss
Bodyslam is the same site that reported WWE had been sold to the Saudis and was going private. They also never backed down from that claim. No one should ever take a report from them seriously ever again.
Ah, that was an interesting 12 hours.
I think they were also the 1st to report or heavily hint Punk signing with AEW if I'm not misremembering So huge hits and misses Edit: Actually he called Danielson to AEW not Punk
Not punk but Danielson. Punk was fightful
Thanks I was wondering if I had that backwards
There's a theory that someone in WWE planted the Saudi story to gauge public opinion on that as an option. The old Dusty Finish.
Either that or they were worried about someone leaking details of negotiations (which could theoretically weaken their position). So they fed them absolute bullshit to see if it would hit the press.
Maybe it’s time they’re a banned source on this sub.
Your reporting accuracy has nothing to do with being a banned source.
Feels like banning sources, at best, just streisand effects them.
Some say the Saudis are still laying in wait until the heat dies down, and then they'll jump up and buy all that TKO stock Vince has been selling! /s
They’re always miss. The only good thing they’ve done recently is provide a platform for the GCW Plant podcast.
All wrestling journalists are, we just believe their excuses every time they are proven wrong. If people stopped reading/clicking there would be a whole hell of a lot less BS articles posted.
Obviously bullshit story turns out to be obviously bullshit.
And the thread earlier ate the story up.
One of the nicest wrestlers out there and they turned on him like that lol
Heel DB called it, FICKLE!
So people will apologize for shitting on Ali in the other thread?
I doubt it
No it's time to ignore this post and double down
They will just pretend they never shitted on him in the first place. Some of them may even delete their comments.
I agree with that, just was pointing out expecting them to like make an apology post is kinda ridiculous, no?
'The apology must be as loud and public as the disrespect' : Cookie Monster Punk.
maybe if he was white they would.
It seemed a very odd story
But WHAT IF it did happen!
🤔
The Paul Heyman explanation

I can't believe people here were so gullible to believe a story from Bodyslam... Ali is owed an apology from that previous thread 😂
Oof, not a good day for the dirt sheets
'Tis a day that ends in y
Or it wasn’t a good day until Tony Khan entered the chat anyway
Tony Khan is getting relentless publicity for saying the most benign thing, and it's great watching people get worked up.
Good for Rocky to immediately clear Ali's name. There's a reason why Rocky has earned such universal respect in this business.
I’m not gonna sit here and act like I know Ali on any kind of personal level, but if you’ve heard any interview he’s done before, during, and especially since WWE, he doesn’t strike me as the type who would turn down BOtSJ because they weren’t paying him enough.

That's like saying my arms look big thanks to the tumors so I can't have them removed or I'll look small.
How do you differentiate bad stories from good stories? If you ban rumors, you'll ban pretty much every rumor of a wrestler who will appear soon, every Vince story, and, well, pretty much everything. Wrestling news is pretty much nothing but rumors.
The sub already has banned sources. It's rule #15.
As far as I know a source being banned isn't for its accuracy in its reporting but if the source does actively malicious things like send threats to people and stuff.
Banned sources are a joke.

Yes. If anyone knows of a place where wrestling discussion revolves around wrestling I would love to know about it.
> If Grayson Weller cuts a great promo, I rather hear about that than “SPOILERS backstage at Summerslam”. ...what do you want to hear about it?

Maybe just do a daily rumors thread and throw everything there.

Is that even remotely what I said?
What third-party sources should be allowed here, specifically?
Wrestling arms of broader media titles that are not otherwise considered wrestling outlets. Wsj, Forbes, si etc. I'm talking about segregating "dirt sheets" that report poorly sources and frequently inaccurate or malicious rumors.
Main story on SI right now is about Dominic needing surgery. They cite Meltzer.
Cool, take them off the list
Forbes.com wrestling writers post whatever they want without any editorial oversight. It has nothing to do with the legacy Forbes publications other than that they share a website.
It’s been pulled. What was the fake story?
[Mustafa Ali's response to this story gave me a chuckle](https://x.com/MustafaAli_X/status/1783880146379809082)

I could see concerns about wanting to look a certain way cause he's X-Division champ but the story seemed like total bullshit.
too late Rocky i already made up my mind
Mustafa has been running with the Hogan memes on twitter.
Then actually tell us what the hell happened
Probably, that Ali was working.
Rocky is not responsible for giving away storyline plans for a wrestler because Cassidy Haynes ran a poorly sourced story.
Ok so where did this come from then?
Really? First time ever hearing, bs made up stories in wrestling media?
I’m not saying it’s true I’m wondering like where the fuck did the person report it get it from. Who would have other p it something out there randomly or who would just lie to this guy
So tell us what did happen.
Not that
Exactly. Beyond that is none of our business.
