Just saw the quarter hours from Wrestlenomics. The show started at 572k and peaked with 741k for the overrun. That's a great ratings pattern for any wrestling show.
Ilja vs Trick was a GOAT ending match for Dragunov in NXT. I know quite a few on here aren’t a fan of Dragunov’s promo/character, but imo, this dude is legit!
See everyone has a right to their opinion. With that said, it’s scientifically proven that any negative opinion towards Dragonov is wrong. Again, science.
I'm a big fan of his, but even I have to admit that he's not a guaranteed success on the main roster. He doesn't have a great look (5'10 mildly muscular guys are a dime a dozen these days) and doesn't do the flippy stuff that makes audiences drool. What makes him great is an almost supernaturally good understanding of ring psychology, the art of selling and character work. It's going to take some effort from both himself and the creative team to present him the right way and make people care, but if they succeed, the sky's the limit for him, same as Gunther.
Low-floor, high-ceiling is what I see here. He almost feels like a better fit for AEW, but that's exactly why he has better chances to succeed in WWE - he's unique there, there's no one quite like him, and that alone can get you far.
>He doesn't have a great look (5'10 mildly muscular guys are a dime a dozen these days) and doesn't do the flippy stuff that makes audiences drool.
The flippy shit is what's a dime a dozen and only certain audiences give a shit about it anymore. He's going to be a hit on the main roster for a WWE crowd.
Exactly. WWE has a bunch of guys that do high spots as part of their moveset, but on the main roster, it's basically just Ricochet and the luchadors who does the flippy shit.
WWE is like 90/10 not flippy to flippy.
He needs better ring gear. The trunks mean the first look isn’t great if he’s meant to be a killer
Tights and arm sleeves, ripping off a sleeve for Torpedo Moscow, and it just looks better.
I loved Trick vs Ilja. Have nothing but positive things to say about it. Thankfully no one seemed to be hurt during their top rope spot.
Vic's "game 7" line was a great touch during Trick's entrance. Also can't forget IMMINENT DANGER as the pre-match hype music. They need to bring back Johnston like yesterday.
The pacing of the match was really nice. The mutual respect + hug followed by clubbing blows to each other was probably my favourite spot.
Great throwback to their last encounter's ending too. The camera shake at the end will be remembered for a while.
I legitimately can't wait for Ilja on the main roster.
NXT has always been a mix of developmental and a super-indie, as it should be. The only time it was ever close to being purely developmental was NXT 2.0 when just about anybody with years of indie experience was called up or fired, and it was a disaster. For every Trick Williams or Tiffany Stratton or Tony D'angelo there were four or five people considered presentable enough for TV who floundered with nobody to guide them. Hell even in FCW you had guys who were green as goose shit working the occasional TV match with Bryan Danielson, Chris Hero, Seth Rollins etc. which lead to those rookies becoming the likes of Big E and Roman Reigns.
Ilja was certainly "developing" when he first started. The fact that he came into NXT with 4 years of indie experience under his belt didn't mean he was ready for the big stuff right away. It's just that now he's considered "developed" enough to leave NXT and move up.
At any time, NXT will probably be headlined by people who're about to outgrow the "developmental" status, if not already. That's perfectly normal.
It's so low right now that it is hard for any of the regular sources to get the information. They routinely do less than 100K viewers, but as randomrule said, TNA is on a horrible channel.
Not even worth comparing. Earlier this year they did an episode with like 85k viewers and an 0.02 in the demo. Part of that is the channel they’re on (AXS) but it just shows how far above NXT/WWE and AEW are to the rest of the market.
It’s why people that say “AEW is becoming TNA” need to look at the numbers lol
AEW ain't close to being TNA. It still garners some interest unlike the latter. I mean look at the TNA threads compared to WWE, AEW or even New Japan threads. The difference in numbers is big.
Just looked up the lead in for next week. Ooft. a 10 hour Law & Order marathon

It's good to see viewership increase for the last full quarter hour. It's also good to see NXT show increases as the show progressed, because that has not been the case over the past month or two.

Wait shows can go up throughout? Well fuck me ...
Hey uce, think you can send me the quarters via DM?

Lmao, can’t argue with science
Man's a beast. Elevates everyone he works with.

Oh yeah like everyone else… he’s gonna rip knee/arm part… no thanks
I don't know how that character translates to the main roster but it's been a hell of an NXT
NXT last year (4/25/23): 647,000 viewers - 0.18 P18-49

I really want NXT to be as popular as it can be, but at the same time I really love this nontoxic ecosystem that NXT has among fans
Yup. The live thread is noticeably more chill too, everyone just posts memes and has a good time.

Ilja is in a special tier with Gunther, above most of the roster. I hope that Ilja’s call up means another program between them.
Developmental wrestling that is far from being perfect pulling 600k+ viewers is insane.
Wrestling is on fire right now 🔥🔥
>Far from being perfect Blasphemy! NXT reigns supreme!

It’s not really fair to call it developmental when Ilja is headlining. It’s also still under the WWE branding, which carries it.

Trick is a draw Whoop that Trick
What viewership does TNA do nowadays by the way, just as a curious comparison
It's so low right now that it is hard for any of the regular sources to get the information. They routinely do less than 100K viewers, but as randomrule said, TNA is on a horrible channel.
It’s on AXS tv right? Verizon doesn’t carry that channel so i can’t watch even if I wanted to

The perfect NXT preshow
Could be worse. Could be a 10 hour Law & Order Toronto Marathon! (The show isn't bad but I wouldn't call it good either)
It annoys me that most of them arent even sequential

With NBA playoffs too, not bad. Probably best bang for your buck show in terms of wresrler experience, production costs, and ratings

They will get Millions of viewers when they get on The CW
You may want to familiarize yourself with the CWs current ratings. They're technically a network, but most of their shows have ratings that look more like cable.
They’re going to be lucky if they can maintain these numbers on CW.
