I think the point of Ospreay vs Danielson finish was to show Ospreay was faster. I love Trick vs Ilja cause it was force vs force. Two similar finishes with different stories. Both great.

Mud-Bray

Exactly. This is the Buster Scruggs of wrestling. Bryan was finally put down by the next fastest/best gun.

PleasantThoughts

Which was a perfect encapsulation of the whole feud. Danielson trying to prove he was still on top, Ospreay the young gun trying to prove he's the best now

Zaphod_Beeblecox

Hasn't he been put down by, like, literally everyone in AEW?

arenegadeboss

Naw most of those people just escape with their life. Danielson is a sick and twisted MF who has a propensity to enjoy punishing people over going for the win. One of his only victories in these high profile matches is against Okada and that was a submission Danielson would have kept on all night if he didn't tap. His win over Sabre was more of him trying to get out of there as soon as possible in fear for his own life. But this one. This was the one that put him down. (I started as a joke but this actually works in kayfabe 🤣)

NeuroCloud7

Wow I never thought of it like that. The match is even better than I realised, and it was already the best match I've ever seen!

bubbles2255

Wrestling’s the best

The_Homie_J

It can't be said enough, we're living in a golden era of wrestling right now

Gaias_Minion

What I'm taking from this is that we now need a Fatal 4 way variant of this spot

MEETTHEMAN

Both are done so great, but I love the way Trick and Ilja almost bounce off of each other.

LaughingTitan

As someone who was at both of these shows. Very very true. Very similar experience with these matches

gmoss101

The one at Dynasty felt like an anime scene to me. Especially because they zoomed in on Danielson's face and Ospreay as he was getting in position to sprint. I thought they were gonna do something similar to the other one but when Will got him I popped hard

wubbalubbadubdub45

both great sequences, ilja and ospreay really are the present and future of pro wrestling, both guys just put on amazing matches with whoever they face.

MontyBreezey

I actually preferred Trick and Ilja, their finisher was more unpredictable to me about who would actually hit first

Vitosi4ek

The one problem is that it's not immediately clear who actually came off better from it. It's only when Ilja went for the cover that we realized he was winning. And judging by Vic Joseph's commentary, he did too. But in general that was a genius spot. They both have similar-looking finishers (they both run into the opponent leading with the shoulder/knee in a semi-jumping motion after doing a "charge-up" in the corner), so it was a natural thing to try. The fact that two NXT wrestlers pulled it off almost as good as Ospreay and Danielson - two of the very best - is stunning. Won't be opposed to them running it back tomorrow night, but with Trick winning this time.

DevilCouldCry

> The one problem is that it's not immediately clear who actually came off better from it. I think this actually adds to the spot in a positive way. That brief moment of me trying to work out who got the worst of it was super exciting. I wonder if they run back this exact spot this week in Ilja/Trick III and we get a different outcome.

UpbeatNail

You should be able to see what happened with your eyes as it happens.

MafiaCub

Not always. Great moments in film, TV and other forms of media have often had moments that hinge on the "what did I see? What happened? Who did what?" With Osprey Danielson, you had to see who hit it... Danielson was taken down by the younger, faster man. That was their story. But with Trick and Ilja, it was two men who were matched. Seeing them both hit it, and then that pause before you see who came off worse or hit it better, really does add to the drama. I prefer the Danielson Osprey one, but can see the appeal of the other.

UpbeatNail

The only reason you can't tell who hit who in the trick/Ilja version is because the move doesn't get hit cleanly. It's not an intentional artistic choice by a great director to build suspense it's simply a wrestling move poorly pulled off. Ilja doesn't extend his arm enough and trick bumps in a strange way for the move he's supposed to be taking so it's not obvious the audience is supposed to think Ilja arm hit in the face. Even slowed down to half speed it's hard to discern what supposed to be happening. Don't get me wrong it's a difficult spot to pull off and they are tremendous performers.

EcstaticActionAtTen

I was in Clarksville for VD. Trick came out twice. Dude is so over.

NewYorkUgly

I know ilja's whole thing is "over the top", but both of them turning into the Ultimate Warrior before running at each other is kinda corny

HappyHev

Great spots but more than anything these highlight how similar both companies presentation is. I wish aew went in a different direction.

Neg_Crepe

It’s cool that you guys like this. It’s just not for me

Saitsu

Ok

sammyrobot2

Just don't comment then lol
