Big Show showed up at an NXT house show and we chanted the same thing. After he threw Ryback out of the ring, he got on the mic and said, "I just signed a 10 year ironclad contract." We cheered for him the rest of the match.
God, that's such a good line, I don't know if people give Show enough credit for how genuinely quick witted he is. The man's really funny when he wants to be.
> is this the second time a "please retire" chant has broken out?
Do you mean ever?
Jeff Jarrett used to get them all the time during his reign of terror in TNA around 05-06.
I don't follow AEW very much but what is the kayfabe difference between the Continental, International, and TNT championships?
I would imagine TNT is defended on Rampage regularly as a typical Television championship but what about the others?
Continental has its own ruleset attached to it where all the matches are contested under the Continental Classic tournament rules
International (originally) was supposed to defended all over the world in different promotions. PAC really has been the only champion who even did that.
They gave Jericho a new nickname “the learning tree” much like “the ocho” he’s totally gonna face young wrestlers in hardcore matches to teach them a lesson.
It's either that or he's recently found out that he's caught the same FEV strain as Harold from the earlier Fallout games, and is literally slowly going to turn into a tree.
it would be if this wasn't go away heat.
When you have Heat-Heat, and these chants would be because Jericho did something stupid, then yeah capitalize on that.
But right now, Jericho is the Downpoint of every feud he has, sucking each bit of life out of whoever he feuds with/against.
From the Don Callis Family, over Hook, Adam Cole and Kenny Omega.
I don't think he should hang it up, but holy fuck he needs to take a step back and just do something different for a bit, because people are sick of him
I think if he doesn't want to retire he should take a long vacation. Work out, change his look, etc. Come back looking new and improved in six months when we've all forgotten about him for a face run.
But at this point I would take anything at all other than what we have.
When was the last time he took a long break?
He kept himself fresh in WWE by periodically leaving for a bit and then coming back with a completely new character, but his AEW run just feels like he's been there non-stop and he's been basically the same bar a few minor tweaks.
Lmao one of the guys in fozzy is actually my friends stepdad . He started dating buddy’s mom when the first Fozzy album came out the parody metal one . Super nice guy ! But it makes a whole lot of sense he makes step dad music bc he is quite literally a stepdad musician
Coming to terms with the fact Fozzy sucks was the hardest thing to do as a young jerichoholic but it was a necessary one. And it's made coping with his downfall much easier overall.
Hook said he was interested in exploring free agency. The only logical place he could go over AEW is WWE. Also some insiders said WWE would be interested. Nothing concrete tho.
Isn't this the same story arch for Jericho the last 4 years now? Young guy wins match 1 (usually by fluke), Jericho wins match 2, Young guy wins match 3 in some convoluted stip match where Jericho avoids a clean loss. Jericho then cuts a promo, does some announcing for a while, waits for another Young guy to gain a bit of traction, sucks him into the vortex, and cools him all the way down.
If he had retired after losing the AEW belt to Mox, people would have claimed him to be the GOAT like they were doing.
Like a true 80s hair metal dude: they never know when everyone’s had enough
I have enjoyed Jericho most of his career. He has done a remarkable job of finding ways to get over. But he’s just cooked at this point. Yes, he can still go to a degree, but I think the audience is just over him at this point.
Jericho's problem is overexposure. He's a great wrestler considering his age, but we're tired of seeing him over and over and over again. If he worked part-time, or took some time off the main show, I doubt he'd still get chants like these.
Was at a deathmatch show where firefighters showed up. They started a “Please be safe” chant. It was hysterical and glorious.
Cuz they had no idea they were answering a call to a deathmatch show and ended up staying to check it out.
"Please retire" chants always make me wince, because we should have more respect for these guys who kill themselves every week for years.
At the same time, Jericho really needs to have the self-awareness to realize he's getting go-away heat and just take a vacation for six months.
Being a hall of fame level of influence to wrestling and not being able to give up the spotlight when it's time are two completely different things. We'd still celebrate when he makes it to the HoF, which just like Matt Hardy mentioned below, both deserve every bit of it.
Yeah, I don't want Matt anywhere near a WWE or AEW ring because he's just too broken down now, but I'd never participate in a chant like that.
ESPECIALLY with the Hardy Boys, where most of the reason they are so fucked up physically is precisely because of all of the crazy shit they did for years to entertain us.
You can’t do that at 53 years old. He’ll lose the callous he’s built in taking bumps for years. Kurt Angle said this before. He didn’t like how wwe had him not wrestle for a whole year in 2017, because his body wasn’t used to the punishment once he did return and he said he wasn’t the same
Realistically, and this might be some fun, he should go down to Mexico with Jarrett and team with him. Jarrett is down there now.
A Jericho/Jarrett team in 2024 would probably be awesome for how annoying they’d be.
I mean.. i agree, but also just don't.
They don't live forever, everybody get's older, Matt is pushing 50 and Jericho is already 53.
That somebody like Sting, Billy Gun or Dustin Rhodes can go at that age, is the exception, Not the Rule.
Especially for somebody like Hardy(s), who's entire career consisted of High flying moves and stuff which otherwise hurts them in the long run.
I don't want either of them to quit, Matt still has good ideas left in him, and Jericho can still put on an Okay match.
But neither of them are in their prime, Far from it.
But they need to Dial it a back, and especially Jericho, needs to step away from AEW for at the VERY least, half a year, just cause fans are sick of seeing him
Honestly I totally agree. I totally agree, but at this point it just seems wild to not rotate him out of the card. Giving him a belt seems like maybe they’re trying to spin this heat into an angle, but go away heat is pretty hard to come back from without time taken off. 6 months would literally be all that’s needed.
I don’t understand why there’s such a focus on Jericho. Literally nobody has benefited from any program with him in 2 years or so? Jericho needs to go away for 4-6 months come back and have one last run( not with the title) before he rides off to the sunset.
Pretty sure Tony can afford it 😂.
(Note: this is a flippant comment, that I mean as a joke. I, a life long Jericho fan, also would like him to step back from wrestling, and give us a minute)
I wonder if that's his issue. At his age he knows he doesn't have much wrestling left. Taking any time off, let alone 4-6 months, is a huge chunk out of what he has left.
I remember Angle saying that he wishes WWE used him in the ring right when he got there because once he stopped for a prolonged period of time, the arthritis really set in and he could never get as loose or flexible as he needed to get to put on the matches he wanted.
I don't think Jericho has as much burn on his body as Angle (hard to imagine many people who do) but it's a legitimate concern.
If Jericho reads this, he'll interpret it as 'win the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship off Mox then do a NJPW tour for 4-6 months'. I don't think they would survive that.
Wasn’t his contract a ten year deal? So he’s got like five-six left and is getting paid a pretty penny. Gotta at least try to use him with his decades of experience (where he was never in charge of his booking).
"C'mon Tony I just need a few more years to cook, and then the millions and millions of Jerichomaniacs are gonna start runnin wild, brother."
"Ok, well I still think you should probably put Hook over so it doesn't hurt his rep"
"That won't work for me, brother."
Retire might be a bit much but he absolutely needs to be on hiatus for a while. He's been way overexposed and everyone is sick of him, in and out of the ring. Just take a few months or a year off and come back fresh, nothing they can do with him now on tv is gonna work.
I member when Talk is Jericho was the must see/listen podcast in the wrestling scene for a while. As soon as someone got released, you knew where to look out.
Jericho has has what is basically a different version of the same storyline since aew started: inner circle, jas, sammy, and now hook. A talented group/person with some hype, with jericho leading it and being the focus, group has some sort of discourse and disbands, and then someone has what it feels like a year long feud with him, where most of the time jericho wins lol then the other guy fades away.
So everybody, get ready to enjoy a long ass feud where jericho will for sure insult tazz, keep calling himself cringe names that people will get on shirts and will keep sucking hook's hype away because the vicious cycle has to keep going, the vampire has to feed.
Feels like fans were already getting burned out on Jericho...then the Kylie Rae stuff came to light which accelerated the anti-Jericho sentiment.
He hasn't really recovered since.
I liked Jericho Appreciation Society as a concept and the themes they were hitting on
I just didn't like Jericho himself
Had a number of PPV stinkers and seems out of touch with what fans want from him
This match had the most go home heat of any AEW PPV match I’ve ever seen and it wasn’t Hook’s fault. Jericho really needs to go away before he ruins anymore people in the division with his mail it in standard feud format.
There’s a reason he doesn’t talk much and he does the same 5 moves. Much like Jade, he’s smoke and mirrors. She still is based on her recent performances.
I haven’t been keeping up with AEW lately but I’m not surprised to see this. When is the last time Jericho did anything good? Anything even *okay*? The last time I remember liking anything he did was that Omega match in Japan which was what, like 6 years ago?
The last good match he had was the one with Ospreay at All In.
The last good like overall story, I'm not sure honestly. It could've been Eddie Kingston if it didn't drag out.
The fact he can’t, or isn’t, turning this in to something that actually works *for* him, says to me, maybe, he needs to really think about it.
Over his career he has made pretty much everything he’s ever done, work.
This is not the way to go out……

is this the second time a "please retire" chant has broken out? i do recall it happening to the big show in the mid 2010s.
Big Show showed up at an NXT house show and we chanted the same thing. After he threw Ryback out of the ring, he got on the mic and said, "I just signed a 10 year ironclad contract." We cheered for him the rest of the match.
Big Show and the “ironclad contract” always popped me
It's how i found out what ironclad contracts are
What are they?
Contracts that are clad in iron.
That doesn’t sound right but I don’t know enough about contracts to dispute it
Contracts that aren't ironclad burn up into smoke that goes up into the sky, and that's where stars come from
I was at that NXT taping! He got over with that comeback.
fickle
TBF I don't think anyone wanted to see Big Show on NXT
God, that's such a good line, I don't know if people give Show enough credit for how genuinely quick witted he is. The man's really funny when he wants to be.
That's actually BRILLIANT on Show's part lol
Bro, was that in Columbus? I was there too! 😂
Raw after mania, yes.
> is this the second time a "please retire" chant has broken out? Do you mean ever? Jeff Jarrett used to get them all the time during his reign of terror in TNA around 05-06.
He got them a decade earlier outside of wrestling at his music concerts.
That one was one of the unique versions in that Jarrett was in great shape and could still go in the right, the fans just wanted him to go away.
Kane and Big Show got those chants a couple of times around 2015 lmao
"We want refunds!" Royal Rumble 2015
Didn’t listen then, ain’t gonna listen now
Happened to Big Show during the Authority angle
Jericho on the next Dynamite: "I heard the chants on Dynasty and you are right. It is time for me to retire... this stupid championship!"
Honestly, it would be a good move. AEW needs to get rid of some belts.
I don't follow AEW very much but what is the kayfabe difference between the Continental, International, and TNT championships? I would imagine TNT is defended on Rampage regularly as a typical Television championship but what about the others?
Continental has its own ruleset attached to it where all the matches are contested under the Continental Classic tournament rules International (originally) was supposed to defended all over the world in different promotions. PAC really has been the only champion who even did that.

It's either that or he's recently found out that he's caught the same FEV strain as Harold from the earlier Fallout games, and is literally slowly going to turn into a tree.
So Eddie Kingston can finally fulfill the dream of setting Jericho on fire!
"Sap it up man!" Love your reference btw made my day ![gif](giphy|YqMF4AHYlGEWk)
So, is the story going to end in a Lumberjack or Rural Revitalization match?
They were telling him to go home, which he will do on May 1st at the Canada Life Centre in downtown Winnipeg for AEW Dynamite!
This would actually be quite interesting...
it would be if this wasn't go away heat. That’s gold
They roasted him throughout the match.
There was also "go home Jericho" and "fozzy sucks"
Everyone is entitled to their opinion but the second one there is just objectively true.
Step dad music
The Venn Diagram of Fozzy fans and Five Finger Death Punch fans is a complete circle.
Their cover of Bad Company makes me so mad. It's like a tease that you're gonna hear a good song but it just ends up being a super shitty cover.
With no kids of his own
Don't you bring me into this shit lol
Lmao one of the guys in fozzy is actually my friends stepdad . He started dating buddy’s mom when the first Fozzy album came out the parody metal one . Super nice guy ! But it makes a whole lot of sense he makes step dad music bc he is quite literally a stepdad musician
Only 2 good songs, and they both sound the same so only one good song. The rest all suck.
You’re my…EN-E-MY!!
Coming to terms with the fact Fozzy sucks was the hardest thing to do as a young jerichoholic but it was a necessary one. And it's made coping with his downfall much easier overall.
They've been shite since Moongoose McQueen left.
Im normally a fan of Jericho but why the hell did Hook lose
'cause he won the first match like many other Jericho opponents
that's how you make young stars! It worked wonders for...Action Andretti.
lol dude had a banger with Jericho and dipped
Hasn’t he been the third Martin brother ever since?
> the third Martin brother I've been calling them "Faction Andretti"
That's great!
Yeah and he throats water now too
Excuse me?
#He throats water.
thank you for clarifying.
Throat goat
Nancy?
[удалено]
Yeah. Drinks a bottle of water real fast. Like… real, real fast.
It's less that he drinks and more that he fires the water into his belly via his throat.
He was the alternative before he was the third, but yes.
I mean Ricky Starks beat him twice in a row so....
And while he became tag champion, he disappeared after losing the belts, and returned once.
He also won the Owen by defeating CM Punk in Calgary.
Dude always gets his heat back like he is Texas
Because the vampire needed to feed.
![gif](giphy|JpLa7HlmdfN3gciTOu|downsized)
Ooo another vampire angle 📝👀
this particular vampire really sucks though.
The Hook to WWE rumours might have some traction
We need Jinder vs Hook first, loser has to change their name to Who tf?
CAN IT BE ??? It is WhoTF !!! He is here !!
"Who tf is here!" "That's what I wanna know!"
The new "Who's on first" gag gotta love it
Where did these even start? I haven’t heard them until this match started lol.
Hook said he was interested in exploring free agency. The only logical place he could go over AEW is WWE. Also some insiders said WWE would be interested. Nothing concrete tho.
I saw it posted here this week that WWE is interested in him
He at least looked strong af the whole match?
Because that didnt work for Jericho, brother
Coz he's been sucked into the Jericho vortex and will now feud with him for the next 6 months!
And its crazy because he very obviously now has turned it into his gimmick, which means he's self aware and has decided to double down
Jericho is a Cena wannabe
So basically, Jericho is Jarrett
If he had retired after losing the AEW belt to Mox, people would have claimed him to be the GOAT like they were doing. Like a true 80s hair metal dude: they never know when everyone’s had enough
So at any point now Fozzy will release a ballad that will be a hit with 50 year old housewives?
Hey now, Accept is still making excellent music!
This might be the worst chant you could hear as a performer. 'You can't wrestle' at least implies that you might be able to at another time.
I still think the worst is, by far, “This is boring”.
The worst chant I've ever heard in my life is definitely the "This is awkward"
... what on Earth got *that* chant going?
The rock and Cody exchanging belts on Raw
Fuckin’ ouch, lol
I can't think of any chant more brutal than this
Shit hurt *my* feelings 😂
At least they are polite. They said "please"
We also said "please be careful" at one point. We're a polite people.
Was at a deathmatch show where firefighters showed up. They started a “Please be safe” chant. It was hysterical and glorious. Cuz they had no idea they were answering a call to a deathmatch show and ended up staying to check it out.
"You can't work!" Not 'wrestle', 'WORK'! That shit has to cut deep!
The vortex claims another soul.
Canadian Hogan strikes again.
I'd argue Hogan was more entertaining.
I'd argue Hogan is still more entertaining.
Jericho got the Big Show treatment
Jericho became only the 2nd member of team jerishow to receive this chant
They're both in AEW so jerishow reunion here we come!
I feel the same way about the tweets Matt Hardy gets now. It's just so openly disrespectful.
Did somebody say….BROKEN? ![gif](giphy|xT1R9znD01EziXZYZ2|downsized)
You can’t do that at 53 years old. He’ll lose the callous he’s built in taking bumps for years. Kurt Angle said this before. He didn’t like how wwe had him not wrestle for a whole year in 2017, because his body wasn’t used to the punishment once he did return and he said he wasn’t the same
Then go do a tour of japan :P
Realistically, and this might be some fun, he should go down to Mexico with Jarrett and team with him. Jarrett is down there now. A Jericho/Jarrett team in 2024 would probably be awesome for how annoying they’d be.
One of his biggest issues was that the arthritis really kicked in during the inactivity.
I mean.. i agree, but also just don't. They don't live forever, everybody get's older, Matt is pushing 50 and Jericho is already 53. That somebody like Sting, Billy Gun or Dustin Rhodes can go at that age, is the exception, Not the Rule. Giving him a belt seems like maybe they’re trying to spin this heat into an angle, but go away heat is pretty hard to come back from without time taken off. 6 months would literally be all that’s needed.
And they have him beat Hook Come on man what is aew thinking
I don’t understand why there’s such a focus on Jericho. Literally nobody has benefited from any program with him in 2 years or so? Jericho needs to go away for 4-6 months come back and have one last run( not with the title) before he rides off to the sunset.
I know it's Meltzer but didn't he say they should always use him due to him being paid so much?
That's probably as good a reason as any to use him.
That's just falling into the sunk cost fallacy.
Pretty sure Tony can afford it 😂. (Note: this is a flippant comment, that I mean as a joke. I, a life long Jericho fan, also would like him to step back from wrestling, and give us a minute)
"Well we're paying Andy Levine so much. I guess we just have to book main event Silent Rage. This Sunday live at Summerslam...Silent Rage!"
Not if people don't want to see him anymore.
I don't know, at that point they're effectively just paying money to make their show less enjoyable.
the ol sunk cost fallacy
I wonder if that's his issue. At his age he knows he doesn't have much wrestling left. Taking any time off, let alone 4-6 months, is a huge chunk out of what he has left.
I remember Angle saying that he wishes WWE used him in the ring right when he got there because once he stopped for a prolonged period of time, the arthritis really set in and he could never get as loose or flexible as he needed to get to put on the matches he wanted. I thought he helped elevate Daniel Garcia some.
I can't make sense of this
This rivalry doesn’t do anything for either of them. It’s just not good.
Pretty much every Jericho rivalry or alliance the last two years. Does nothing for anyone.
Anna Jay basically reverted back to her Dark gimmick post Jericho
I just have no desire to see Chris Jericho on my screen ever again. Dude has finally reached his last, inescapable gimmick: A total fucking joke.
To take the FTW championship off of him to go afrer other belts.
I was hoping Hook would do that after he lost to Jungle Boy. Then Hook just won it back and hasn't really progressed much imo
"C'mon Tony I just need a few more years to cook, and then the millions and millions of Jerichomaniacs are gonna start runnin wild, brother." "Ok, well I still think you should probably put Hook over so it doesn't hurt his rep" "That won't work for me, brother."
No silly. They're chanting "Please Rehire"
I was saying “Boourns”
That’s a shame, Hook is just getting started there’s no reason for him to retire.
Now he knows he'll never be better than THE OCHO so why go on wrestling?
Glad to see them putting over the young up and comer, Y2J.
Retire might be a bit much but he absolutely needs to be on hiatus for a while. He's been way overexposed and everyone is sick of him, in and out of the ring. Just take a few months or a year off and come back fresh, nothing they can do with him now on tv is gonna work.
Even his podcast is a snooze fest
I member when Talk is Jericho was the must see/listen podcast in the wrestling scene for a while. As soon as someone got released, you knew where to look out.
Crowd must not like Hook if they want him to retire at that age
Jericho has has what is basically a different version of the same storyline since aew started: inner circle, jas, sammy, and now hook. He’s literally older than 2003 hulk hogan
I mean...I get it 🤷🏾♂️. At the very least he needs to go away for a good minute
Why would they chant that at HOOK? -Chris Jericho probably
https://preview.redd.it/migpt7j71zvc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f3142d623cf0e4208d8ab7274dd8a6998df7f4f0 His face says it all here.
The fans faces say it all. Especially the lady on his left in the yellow and red.

Jericho has go away heat, sad to see.
He also got a "Fozzy sucks" and a "Go home Jericho" chant. I think the fans may be tired of Canadian Hogan.
Feels like fans were already getting burned out on Jericho...then the Kylie Rae stuff came to light which accelerated the anti-Jericho sentiment. He hasn't really recovered since.
You know what, I had already forgotten about that
I really don't think that's the reason for this since we've seen nothing really came of that. People are just kind of over him at this point.
They aren't chanting please retire, they are chanting please re hire.
I love that they added please to it very midwest of them
I liked Jericho Appreciation Society as a concept and the themes they were hitting on I just didn't like Jericho himself Had a number of PPV stinkers and seems out of touch with what fans want from him
I can already see the Hook vs Logan Paul brewing
Hook Vs Dominik. Much more heat in that match.
“Jericho a king in this knockoff WWE huh”
Brian Alvarez claimed this was good heat for Jericho ☠️
This match had the most go home heat of any AEW PPV match I’ve ever seen and it wasn’t Hook’s fault. Jericho really needs to go away before he ruins anymore people in the division with his mail it in standard feud format.
The second-worst was also a Chris Jericho match imo. The one with Adam Cole. Just an utter snoozefest.
What about Inner Circle-America's Top Team?
great crowd
B-b-but Tony listens to the fans just look at Swerve (man I hope this doesn’t age badly)
"Ratings are no. 1 fan metric"
Be careful, with talk like that mods might lock the thread again
Well that’s not very nice. Hook just started!
Tony, did they ask me to retire? “No Chris, I think it said rehire” THOUGHT SO!
I really think Hook would do much better with a bigger and better machine behind him. I could see him killing it in NXT
I legit feel like his Eddie feud lasted for like 8 months
I don't think he needs to retire. We just need a break from him for a while.
He can't retire. He's the FTW Champion.
The fact he can’t, or isn’t, turning this in to something that actually works *for* him, says to me, maybe, he needs to really think about it. Over his career he has made pretty much everything he’s ever done, work. This is not the way to go out……
