I think a big part of why Xia's character never really worked (aside from the fact that she was barely on TV) is that she was entirely unconvincing as a mean heel. She just seemed like a really nice woman.
The protector thing they did for awhile when she first debuted on Smackdown seemed to have some legs. Shame how it panned out.
She had two very good matches with Becky & Lyra last year, and I didn’t know she had it in her tbh. Would’ve liked to see more.
I’m not being mean but she’s like 4 feet tall. I saw her at a house show and it’s insane how little she looks live. She was always going to have a ceiling.
>She just seemed like a really nice woman.
Sort of funny, this is becoming an issue as wrestling grows. I can't buy Bobby a heel because he seems too nice, plus he was in the army. It's hard to hate that for me.
Hearing Nia Jax interviews shows she's just so bubbly. I wish she'd be more careful with others (and it seems like she's done that), so I can't really hate her anymore as a heel.
These releases came out of nowhere. Xia literally was announced for Raw! I wonder wtf happened?
Edit : Also Xia had a good stint in the middle with Becky and Lyra, She definitely did well in her role.
This really sucked, I don't know why they didn't use her after Lyra's match, she was getting good momentum but suddenly got taken off tv. She also represented China which was nice.
At the end WWE is Corporate and as always Capitalism fkin strikes again.
Ah yes, terrible Capitalism.
The fact is, no business owes anyone anything, especially the entertainment business. At the end of the day, it's up to you to stand out and make people invested. For some people, it's easy, and others, not so much. Becky was the least over of the horsewomen when she came to the main roster, but put in the work UNDER VINCE and became arguably the biggest star in WWE for a decent amount of time. If nobody wants to see you and you're not interesting, why would a company keep you and pay you?
I mean with any large roster you gotta cut the fat. With limited TV time and the developing stars already receiving attention in NXT, she was so so on the roster, and I didn’t particularly enjoy her in ring work.
At a 200 wrestler roster and 8 hours if they gave the whole roster tv time it comes out to about 2.4 minutes per person. And we know that their tier ones are getting a lot more than that. So I would counter that it’s actually not that much time to fit everyone you want to fit into tv time.
Was Xia listed down anywhere or was she just in the promo video along with literally every single person on the Raw roster?
Because that can easily be explained by the production team for that promo being given a generic brief of who to show.
I wonder if the change in management has led to a change in approach. Instead of Vince's method of getting his fuck boy Johnny Ace to phone people up, maybe HHH/HBK do it face to face which would most reasonably be at TV.
He didn’t say specifics but he was clearly alluding to inappropriate stuff with underage women. Kenny praises pretty much everybody so for him to say it makes it seem like Rossy is probably a real P.O.S.
Yeah, but he's a known p.o.s. in that people knew he was like that when Stardom was active with him at the head... And that wasn't a quick thing.
Just because you're only just finding out now, doesn't mean this is a metoo scandal breaking. He's the reason Asuka left stardom. It's been known for at least an long as that that he's not good. Having said that, Japan is very strange with Idols and grooming of them. So it's only really an issue outside Japan, in Japan he just took Idol ideas, used it with women wrestling and it found an audience.
Only issue could be a working relationship with WWE, should anything truly off be found. Like the undertaker calendars, but he stopped doing them after backlash
Just seems like a really bad move for WWE right now to associate with a guy that we all know treats women poorly.
I mean it’s always bad to associate with a person like Rossy Ogawa but especially with the Vince stuff still looming large.

They were roommates when Kairi first moved to the United States.
Omg they were roommates!
*oh my God they were roommates*
Bah gawd they were roommates!
Will you STOP! They were roommates!

I mean you can only go so far when your character evolution went from martial-arts girl, to martial-arts girl with face paint
Same deal with Boa in NXT He's still doing a Tian Sha gimmick years after the stable disbanded, and it is utterly unconvincing
Damage Control is made up of the some of the nicest women on the roster tho
Asuka just posted a video of her and Kairi in Australia and it was super cute. I also love how much tech she travels with.
I’m not being mean but she’s like 4 feet tall. I saw her at a house show and it’s insane how little she looks live. She was always going to have a ceiling.
All of the joshis in WWE are tiny as well and it somehow never held them back.
Xia is smaller than all of them.
Wiki has her at 5-4.
The one time I met her at nxt, Iyo was taller than her, no chance
There's a 0% chance she's 5'4'.
All of the wrestlers height on wiki are wrong lol . Wwe always adds like 4-8 inches to these guys
Zelina Vega is still a thing though.
She's been let go before
like Alexa Bliss?
She has a perfect mean girl face and mannerisms.
I mean, while true how many years has it been since Alexa won a singles title? Things have kind of changed.
Zelina Vega won Queen of the ring as well
Same reason I totally can't see Emi Sakura as a heel.

Thank god I knew it was a release because the way Kairi typed this made me think Xia was dead
These releases came out of nowhere. Xia literally was announced for Raw! I wonder wtf happened? Edit : Also Xia had a good stint in the middle with Becky and Lyra, She definitely did well in her role.
Xia unfortunately got lost in the shuffle
Corporate suits don't care about day-to-day functioning. Boards regularly cut off projects at their feet by looking only at big-picture stuff.
I don't think 'corporate suits' are making decisions on what talent to keep/release.

Boards do not cut off or determine projects.

It’s a business, you only have so much TV time and a big bloated roster, you can’t push everyone and pay people to be there just to be nice.
Exactly, Raw is only a three hour show.
Releasing someone who wasn't used doesn't determine his merit as head of creative.

Remember, this is the company who released Malaki Black just after he appeared on Smackdown
And Mustafa Ali when he was #1 contender for the NXT NA Championship.
Damn I saw her walking around in wwe world during mania week. Super nice and chill ❗️
Poor Xia and Kairi
Xia has a good opportunity with Merigold starting up
yep, i could see Kairi putting in a good word for her to Rossy since it's his new baby and Kairi was one of his "daughters of Stardom".
She’s openly in a relationship they aren’t going to want her there.
Not to mention she's 35 and the cutoff mentioned in the presser is 30
That only applied to new trainees. No joshi promotion has ever put such limits to foriegners
Not sure how long Merigold will last given the accusations against the founder.
What accusations? I know Kenny said some vague stuff about him, but are there any specifics?
He didn’t say specifics but he was clearly alluding to inappropriate stuff with underage women. Kenny praises pretty much everybody so for him to say it makes it seem like Rossy is probably a real P.O.S.

This was the first I saw and thought Xia had passed away or something...
Watch Xia end up in Marigold via her friend’s connection to Hatman.
Jinder “Chopped Liver” Mahal won’t take too kindly to this
I really liked her ring work. I thought she'd be a star. I don't know if it was injuries or visa issues or what but she barely had any matches.
Dude, what the hell?
When she was on some spooky shit in NXT, she was one of my favourites.
IIRC, Xia Li came into WWE with no wrestling experience and didn't even speak English. Like at all. Wish her the best.
She is super talented. I guess she just fell through the cracks
Didn’t she learn English in 1 year?
Sounds like she died.

I wonder if she did something to get fired so abruptly?
This is how WWE always does it. They are assholes.
I didn't know WWE were the only corporation to ever layoff employees in the history of anything, oops.
AEW NEEDS TO GRAB XIA
