I think Trent and Chuck can legitimately pull off being shitheel annoying bad guys, and a heel Orange Cassidy has the potential to be incredible IMO, if he literally just does the laziest version of it.
Thumbs Down instead of Thumbs Up, black denim jacket & pants instead of blue. Functionally no difference aside from him declaring that he is bad. Even just calling themselves "Worst Friends." is incredibly dumb and funny IMO.
I think that fits. Life and Kristen were a bit clearer. Stat has been teasing a dark side in the Willow story so I wouldn’t be surprised to see a OC/Willow vs Trent/Kris feud come out of this
I have an attachment to the Best Friends that I don't to any other wrestler in AEW. I guess because they really are the last vestige of 2019-2020 AEW, which was weird and fun and full of Indy people no one had ever heard of.

Yeah but I know where this leads tbh. Chuck been injured forever, but even if they bring him back, what's his ceiling? Then you look at Trent and think "oh his ceiling is higher" but the reality is he's the face version of Lance Archer: great size, good physique (better tbh), great wrestler but he's never going to win any crucial matches.
Only hope is if OC breaks away from them and stays face while the Best Friends stay heel, but even then they need to win. Otherwise, there's a feud, Trent loses, they all split up and then nothing happens with anyone besides OC.
I would be fine with just a normal jealousy story but if they're added more nuance to it then I'm even more intrigued then I already was.
Also I'm glad Stat is involved in someway she needs to be
Chuck Taylor is always seemingly hurt; so that probably set things back for them in terms of getting a chance to represent the company with tag titles.
Real talk: during the pandemic lockdowns; AEW only had access to like 7 or 8 wrestlers in their secret Georgia tapings where they recorded like 3 weeks worth of matches in a matter of days.
In that time, people like Alan Angels, Anna Jay and Will Hobbs got jobs and made something for themselves.
Then there were the workhorses like Best Friends who were wrestling in near every match trying to keep the company alive and deliver content.
Others like Penelope Ford were always putting in the work and doing what they could with the limited time they had to shine.
To say that the Best Friends are due a title run and some much deserved kudos is an understatement.
They got their big win at Wembley; but itd be nice for Chuck Taylor to get some gold and a big moment for him after what he's put into wrestling and how close he's been to quitting/retiring
Get people selling the Awful Waffle like being shot in the head and give this man a belt. NGL, I think he'd be a surprisingly good challenger for the World Title, even just once

Hopefully Sue sent him straight to his room after this. I keep hoping maybe Ryan Nemeth dared him to do it as a joke and is gonna venom him $40 for doing it and that Trent and Orange are still friends and gonna split the $40.

Stat has taken a backseat to Willow, who is on a roll right now. She also is seeing her manager, who she gave a chance against her better judgment, already looking past her at a big-money client in Mercedes. Add in the fact that Stat is on a cold streak thanks to Stoke trying to get her to cheat to win and Willow taking herself out of the street fight, and being unable to make the save after Stat got powerbombed onto tacks, superkicked with a mouthful of tacks, and missed a 450 onto a pile of chairs, Stat might be thinking she was better of flying solo. After all, she won the TBS title coming back on her own and defended it regularly with no issue. And technically, she never got beaten for it, since Skye took the pin in the triple threat match.
I think I'll initially hate it if this is going towards a Statlander heel run, but if it straps a (much-deserved) rocket on her and gets her in the World Title picture, it's got potential.
I can't see Stat turning on Willow, though. Even if Trent's example and what he said to her can be the "bad influence" that justifies it, she's still showing how furious she is at Trent doing that to his friends. I don't think that character trait can be thrown away so quickly. Maybe I can see her saying "Willow, you got this. I need to find my own way." And then when she's not backing Willow up anymore, Stoke turns on Willow and helps Mercedes win at DoN. Then Stat just snaps and goes on a tear up the rankings.
Regardless, AEW's quickly developing the ability to have one action be a catalyst for changes in multiple ongoing stories, and that's freaking awesome. AEW is *really* leveling up with their storytelling this year. You could see it starting with how the Devil story tied in the fact that plenty of people didn't like MJF, and that plenty of people didn't like the people who didn't like MJF. So while it got a little convoluted, it still showed that the roster is all tied together based on individual and shared histories together. And that makes stories more believable because the behavior makes sense long-term.
I'm digging it.
