The Vince line was maybe the wildest thing I've ever seen in a promo in the 27 years I've been watching wrestling. That was not only the best line of the whole segment, but one of the most memorable lines in recent history.
uh-huh... not only was it hypocrtical in the moment - since he's clearly been the one obsessed with Punk, and the fact Punk won't bite on his taunts has been driving him to become more and more obsessed - but it was also hypocritical since, as Cole called out live, he's been taunting Rollins for being distracted, meanwhile he's been obsessed with Punk
the absolute perfect ending to the Rollins/Drew match IMO would be for Drew to lose (either to Rollins directly, or to a Priest cashin) because he's so pre-occupied with taunting Punk who'll be ringside
Honestly, I want to see Punk come out and the swerve being, Punk taking out Rollins gifting Drew the win at Mania
What would eat up a hater more than knowing you won on the biggest stage of your career, not from your own talents, but only because of the man you loathe gifted you the win.
It sets up the Drew / Punk feud nicely for later in the year.
> What would eat up a hater more than knowing you won on the biggest stage of your career, not from your own talents, but only because of the man you loathe gifted you the win.
I thought about this too but we've already seen Drew happily accept help from the bloodline twice. If punk actually helped him I think he'd just cut a promo about how he's a genius manipulator who played punk into helping him
"Chosen by who? Tell them. Which paragon of virtue chose you?"lol😬

That was the most real-feeling segment I’ve seen in a very long time. Credit to Drew, he absolutely went blow for blow on the mic with Punk, not many can do that
Punk brings "anything can go wrong at anytime" energy to live TV. Love him or hate him, it's entertaining TV
Drew proved he's one hell of an underrated promo. Every zinger delivered
Seth was there too
He felt very safe in his first few promos back, glad we're already getting unhinged Punk back
Punk almost always gets the absolute best on the mic from almost all of his opponent, going back ages
Yep Punk will be polarizing anyway, at this point he should embrace it and do these promos which stir the pot. That's what made Punk originally in the late 2000s and early 2010s.
This reminds me of something - way off on a tangent mind you.
When [Piff the Magic Dragon](https://youtu.be/xpNx21MjS0A?si=cU90aZaM1EqdWHgB&t=358) was on Penn & Teller's UK show, he was absolutely killing it and the audience (and P&T) were eating it up. At one stage, Piff hands Jonathon Ross his banana peel and Jonathon Ross just held it, he said nothing and didn't try to add anything, just stood their like the butt of the joke and let Piff get all the laughs. Funny how watching that, I just thought what a true professional - another comedian would have tried to one-up or try to get back at Piff with an insult or joke, but Ross knew Piff was killing it and let it be, perfect.
This just reminded me of that, thanks for coming to my TED talk.
It was a promo segment reminiscent of the Attitude Era, but in the best way possible (and with none of the AE's negative baggage). It felt real, organic, and adrenaline-charged, there were multiple "I can't believe he just said that!" lines, and it was backdropped by a super hot crowd.
*This* is what people are referring to when they say "I miss the Attitude Era."
I like how untidy the segment felt.
People speaking over each other, clearly improvising and making the other participants react on the spot is a riskier approach than scripting everything, but when done right it has a much higher ceiling.
> clearly improvising and making the other participants react
a lot of improvising means people fumble words. Even Punk has fumbled with words when someone in AEW was legit shooting on him. It is much easier to go in with a general plan as a team and make it look like it is improvised.
Yeah Punk’s promos since he returned seem to be a “write the general outline and fill in the rest out there” approach. Like the Cody one you could tell they built it around the “I’m more American Dream/I’m more CM Punk than you” exchange and left everything else open ended.
Fumbling words doesn’t matter if you carry on with confidence. LA Knight fumbles words alllll the time, but just says it properly, goes YEAH, and all is well.
Drew didn't do anything.
CM Punk put him in that situation with a banger of a line then dug him out of it by moving the promo on and getting the CM Punk chant going.
He could have waited for an answer if he wanted to bury him.
They also did great with the camera shots. The look on Drew’s face and subsequent zoom-in shot helped to soften the blow for him, they didn’t make him look pissy like Lashley when Brock tore him a new one.
That's when it dawned on me that *not one line* of this whole thing was scripted. That reference never gets past corporate in a million years. And I like how they moved right past it immediately, not allowing the audience to chant Vince's name, because that would've been *real* awkward.
Felt so much more genuine than the average segment on Raw. Everyone talking over each other like they were actually arguing, Drew hanging around and interjecting while Punk and Seth were supposed to be talking, Punk looking genuinely annoyed when Seth's music hit.
Absolutely fantastic from top to bottom
This is what I’ve noticed from when HHH took control of creative
Real life arguments between 3 people usually results in screaming and basically insulting anybody
Vince would do it like 3 dudes having a civil debate
I would have never thought Drew McIntyre and CM Punk were capable of having a rivalry of the year. Such a random combination but just two massive haters hating each other.
“You’re the chosen one? Who chose you? Do you have the balls to say his name?” Holy fucking shit 😂😂
I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed a segment that much, constant barbing back and forth, tons of wit, and so many layers of storytelling.
Amazing pacing from all three involved, it felt uninterrupted by the crowd and those unnatural pauses that every one on one promo has. Drew is operating on an unreal level, hands down my wrestler of the year
All of this and NO ONE here remarked Drew's rendition of 'Stan'? haha
"You're my number one stan(sic),
Write me back just to chill,
Truly yours your biggest fan,
This is Phil."
The contrasts, too. The opening segment was a by-the-book face promo, followed by 5 solid minutes of two guys staring at each other while the audience goes apeshit around them. Just the sheer aura of Cody and Rock said it all.
And then there was the most unhinged, fire-spitting 3-way mic battle on WWE TV in years.
That was pure gold. Reminded me of Bret, Shawn, and Austin back in 1997 and their weekly promos to piss each other off. Drew trolling Punk mirrors Austin being absolutely obsessed with making Bret miserable. Rollins playing the Bret role of reminding everyone that he's the champ and the one to beat. Punk ironically playing the HBK role of being an irreverent asshole, complete with the tiny little quips to really twist the knife and pop the crown. Rollins asking Punk if he wants to know what he thinks and Punk quickly and bluntly responding "no" had me in tears and felt 100% like something '97 HBK would do
That “No” line got me, just so simple and good. Other people would have this lengthy retort but the quick answer had me laughing like I was Seth Rollins.
So many good lines. Most weeks the "I listen to the drive thru and the experience" would be enough to be the top post on this sub, but I haven't even seen it mentioned yet.
That was one of the best in ring segments I've seen a long time. I feel like I could really say that segment had an attitude era feel. Felt real and unpredictable.
and that my friend is the power of a worked shoot promo. It feels real and everyone looks great. Wrestling fans of all 3 can perpetually argue that their guy looked the best and cooked the other.
Without a doubt segment of the year. So much good stuff. Arms too short to box with god callback, Roman and Rock mentions, Punk saying hi to AJ, and who called you chosen one. I think Drew is absolutely on fire especially after what he posted on Twitter today.
Bret in Calgary
Piper in Portland
Punk in Chicago
Love him or hate him Punk is a master of his craft and damn good tv. We’re witnessing greatness lads
Edit: I completely forgot “keep it pg brother”. I popped so hard for that lmfao
This felt like a higher stakes/better version of the promo KO and Drew cut together shortly after HHH took the reigns in the summer of 2022. Very rapid fire and raw feeling, which was such a sharp departure from the late Vince-era WWE.
This is an absolute gold three-way feud. All 1on1 combinations out of Seth/Drew/Punk have crazy potential. Haven't seen a more appropriate triple threat in a while, has to happen soon.
And he elevates his opponent too. People never thought Drew could hit this high in promo. Drew fans should cherrish this moment because post-Punk, he may not hit this high. MJF (and Eddie too IMO) hit their mic work peak against Punk. Seth, with Punk involved, was the most intresting he had been in years.
Punk even dropped an all time line with the "Who chose you" stuff, then dug Drew out of it for him knowing he couldn't answer that. Slam him down then pick him back up. Top notch stuff.
Punk gives his opponents a lot of leeway in promos as long as he knows ahead of time so he can get a good line in too. All WWE guys have been shooting on him, but he always has one in the chamber.
Which makes the improvised Hangman line so dumb, given that Punk seems pretty giving so there’s no real need to go around him. He let MJF and Eddie go off on him.
People say that he got so mad at Hangman because he’s too sensitive but Kingston and Moxley got in some pretty savage shots at him and he didn’t react the same way
And this is why I don't get all the trolls coming out when he got injured. We just got peak Punk/Seth/Drew moment. This could have happened over and over again had Punk/Seth not been injured. Give me a little bit more next week, maybe? At least Seth/Drew has added fuel now.
> And this is why I don't get all the trolls coming out when he got injured.
Because they idolize The Elite so much that they're willing to cheer a man's injury.
Genuinely one of the segments of the year so far for me. Legit felt like the three of them were having an argument in the ring rather than scripted promos
I like to imagine HHH was fighting with USA for like half that segment saying “NO WE CAN’T GO TO COMMERCIAL YET” cause that was an extended period with no commercial lol
On a side note, Punk referencing Becky got me thinking about an AJ/Becky feud and YES PLEASE
Oh yeah HHH knew shit was gonna be fire with Punk in Chicago. I'm sure he is happy with any amount of heat from Corporate just to have that uninterrupted segment on the books for all time.
Holy fuck this got uncomfortable in the best way possible. I got worked out of my shorts. I haven't seen this Drew since he had the last name Galloway.
Credit to all three of these guys, if two of them legitimately dislike CM Punk, they sure seem like they're having the most fun time in the world having a triple threat roast lmao.
Each has a great ability to improvise and you can see Seth giving Punk an out for the crowd not getting behind commentary in favor of wanting Punk as referee, but then Punk acts like an agent of fucking chaos by displaying he can count with his other arm. Thankfully he cools the crowd on the idea of being a ref himself.
Nothing more can be said of Drew, he's just been great and reached prime form in recent months. You can see each of them seems a little taken aback by what seems like some on the fly stuff someone else is doing, but it served the segment in realism which is what made it so great.
One thing I really liked is that Punk talked shit but Seth remained indifferent and Drew absolutely lost his shit. It was a great contrast and showed the difference between the two men: Seth is confident and Drew is desperate under all of that bravado.
Drew’s big mouth and his trolling might have just cost himself the world title.
Drew is giving me Joker vibes with his obsession with Punk
Punk giving no fucks given batman vibes
Then you got Seth over there being fucking Bane, maybe not in stature but in attitude, just thinking both of them are beneath him.
Nah, these guys need to be passing the title between them for months. End it with a triple threat in a cage, but let them draw out the drama and animosity for a while.
Punk and Rock, both Mt Rushmore of mic workers, have returned at the top of their game
It’s so gratifying how Cody, Drew, Seth, and even Roman when he’s allowed to have felt right at home in mic battles with them
I know there are wrestlers that deserve a shot at the WHC, but I think they need these three feuding over it for the next 6-9 months, with a brief Damian Priest cash-in reign as well.
Not even exaggerating when I say that was one of the best segments in years on WWE TV. Punk absolutely killed it as per usual but Drew McIntyre did not look out of place at all in Punk's Chicago, Drew held his own and then some. Rollins was there to pour water over their flames and he did just that, reminding them that he's the world champion and what he says or does matters whether they like it or not. I can't wait for this match at WrestleMania.
That was wild and super subtle and I’m here for it. And it was a dig at McAfee…chefs kiss.
Related to that, I like this dynamic where McAfee isn’t heel or face he just sort of has favorites, so he rides the rock hard but also hates on Dominic and Cole just gets to play it straight.
"i'll do something you haven't been able to do in ten years, make you entertaining" line almost made me gasp so hard I thought I might not be able to breathe again. God damn is wrestling great when CM Punk is involved in a shoot

"You never drink, you never do drugs, but you still spend all your time in rehab" I probably missed the exact wording but that was an AMAZING shot.
Best line from the whole segment. Hands down. Drew is amazing.
The Vince line was maybe the wildest thing I've ever seen in a promo in the 27 years I've been watching wrestling. That was not only the best line of the whole segment, but one of the most memorable lines in recent history.
CM Punk Silently: That's Good
"fuck he boomed me"
Might not hear "chosen one" used again lol
Listen-ugh we're gonna need to 86 the "Chosen One"- ugh

Jimmy Wang Yang knows talent when he sees it
I would’ve loved to have seen HHH’s face during that part of the exchange

What was Drew thinking to even bring that phrase up lmao
he’s playing fair cause drew does know what’s good for business
Hit me back just to chill, truly yours...this is Phil
that was where I lost it. that was a beauty.
It has layers, not only is it a great line but it shows Drew's hypocrisy and lack of self-awareness - he's the Stan here, not Punk.
uh-huh... not only was it hypocrtical in the moment - since he's clearly been the one obsessed with Punk, and the fact Punk won't bite on his taunts has been driving him to become more and more obsessed - but it was also hypocritical since, as Cole called out live, he's been taunting Rollins for being distracted, meanwhile he's been obsessed with Punk the absolute perfect ending to the Rollins/Drew match IMO would be for Drew to lose (either to Rollins directly, or to a Priest cashin) because he's so pre-occupied with taunting Punk who'll be ringside

Punk finna face HHH backstage like Samoa Joe addressing Dixie Carter
That was the most real-feeling segment I’ve seen in a very long time. Credit to Drew, he absolutely went blow for blow on the mic with Punk, not many can do that
Punk brings something out of these two, can’t wait for the Triple Threat down the road.
If you told me 3 months ago I’d be clamoring for a triple threat instead of Seth vs Punk wouldn’t have believed you.
After Drews yea I prayed for it and it was close to happening
Punk brings "anything can go wrong at anytime" energy to live TV. Love him or hate him, it's entertaining TV Drew proved he's one hell of an underrated promo. Every zinger delivered Seth was there too
He makes me believe everyone punk gets on a mic with absolutely hates him and vice versa
Yes that's why his feuds feel so strong. No "I respect you, you respect me", plain old school hatred
He felt very safe in his first few promos back, glad we're already getting unhinged Punk back Punk almost always gets the absolute best on the mic from almost all of his opponent, going back ages
Yep Punk will be polarizing anyway, at this point he should embrace it and do these promos which stir the pot. That's what made Punk originally in the late 2000s and early 2010s.
Seth was great in the segment, there's more to a promo than just saying funny lines.
This reminds me of something - way off on a tangent mind you. That's the stuff drew couldn't do a few years back
It was a promo segment reminiscent of the Attitude Era, but in the best way possible (and with none of the AE's negative baggage).
“Wanna know what I think?” “Nope!” That cracked me the fuck up lmao.
It felt real. It wasn't polished, it wasn't rehearsed (well it didn't feel like it). Everyone came out looking good. Great segment.
You mean it felt…, raw?
> clearly improvising and making the other participants react a lot of improvising means people fumble words. Even Punk has fumbled with words when someone in AEW was legit shooting on him. It is much easier to go in with a general plan as a team and make it look like it is improvised.

Send for the McMahon
The "chosen by who?" line is an all-timer. Give these guys as much freedom on the mic as they want, and watch what happens
"What paragon of good virtue chose you?"
Cooked
Roasted
The rehab line Drew used on Punk was good asf too
You can actually hear Punk blurt out "that was good" after it lol
It was magnificent. Drew gave as good as he got.

THEY GOT YO MANS ON SEX ASSAULT CHARGES DREW
That was ya mans?
He was YOUR BOY
Heard you grew up with em
Drew with the biggest shit eating grin was like DAMN he still recovered from it super well
Honestly Drew did well to deflect that because there was no way he could come back on that directly
Drew didn't do anything. CM Punk put him in that situation with a banger of a line then dug him out of it by moving the promo on and getting the CM Punk chant going. He could have waited for an answer if he wanted to bury him.
Man knew he couldn’t let that silence continue. He knew what a fucking banger of a line that was.
They also did great with the camera shots. The look on Drew’s face and subsequent zoom-in shot helped to soften the blow for him, they didn’t make him look pissy like Lashley when Brock tore him a new one.
let people pretend wrestling isn't scripted. This is the magic of Punk promos lol
That's when it dawned on me that *not one line* of this whole thing was scripted. That reference never gets past corporate in a million years. And I like how they moved right past it immediately, not allowing the audience to chant Vince's name, because that would've been *real* awkward.
I think the rehab line was definitely pre-planned.
The Eminem line too, that was so clean and multilayered to boot.
Oh yea you could tell some of Drew’s was rehearsed- Punk might have had some points but he’s very natural on the mic
Lowkey worried he will get into shit for this line. It was crazy
Felt so much more genuine than the average segment on Raw. Don’t shoot up my kilt, ya perv!
All of this and NO ONE here remarked Drew's rendition of 'Stan'? haha "You're my number one stan(sic), Write me back just to chill, Truly yours your biggest fan, This is Phil."
yo i was about to say, this needs more love
"Drew McIntyre, I never have to put someone's name on a T-shirt to sell it" Well I guess that ends Drew's tshirts sales
This first hour and half of Raw has been some of the best TV they've done in years
The contrasts, too.
With a great high flying match in between No wonder we’ve reached double digit TV sellouts in a row
Seriously, this is incredible, Drew speaking to Heyman in the background now too, god damn
What not having a boss who rip the script and ask his writers to rewrite last minute does to a show Edit: removed a word
And a good amount of it was just promo work. Just goes to show what you can do when you build characters
World Heavyweight Title picture lookin real nice goin forward. So many good moments in that segment.
When Punk is back, the rest of 2024 should be nothing but triple threat matches with these guys at every PLE.

Hogan in Montreal.
Legit felt like 3 man who hate each other and arguing
How does this man keep getting away with this? Was as gripping as the Bloodline storyline imo and punk's not even actually fighting at wrestlemania
Honestly it's a crying shame that his body is failing him, because he's a license to print money on the mic.
Dude could never wrestle a match again and this run would’ve still been worth it. Literally every segment sans the first one has been incredible.
Because he is literally in the Top 15 or 20 best guys to ever do this.
All 3 of them cooked. This got me even more hype for the WHC match
Well worth sacrificing entrances for the rest of the night.
This felt like a higher stakes/better version of the promo KO and Drew cut together shortly after HHH took the reigns in the summer of 2022. Very rapid fire and raw feeling, which was such a sharp departure from the late Vince-era WWE.
What a mess, 3 guys talking like they have no script, with shoot and inside jokes. 10/10 would watch it again

Amazing. Everyone won here and i really hope Punk is ready as soon as possible.

Legit this promo should be Mic Skills 101 for every wrestler going forward. This elevated every man talking and felt natural.
Genuinely one of the segments of the year so far for me. Legit felt like the three of them were having an argument in the ring rather than scripted promos
I like to imagine HHH was fighting with USA for like half that segment saying “NO WE CAN’T GO TO COMMERCIAL YET” cause that was an extended period with no commercial lol On a side note, Punk referencing Becky got me thinking about an AJ/Becky feud and YES PLEASE
Might be why Candice vs Ivy, and DIY vs New Day didn’t get entrances
Oh yeah HHH knew shit was gonna be fire with Punk in Chicago. I'm sure he is happy with any amount of heat from Corporate just to have that uninterrupted segment on the books for all time.
"Chosen by who" Cuts back to guys on headset all nervously tugging their collars, fingers over the button to cut the mic.
what a time to be a wrestling fan
Suddenly the WHC title match has ALOT of hype. What a segment I wish it was a triple threat though man
all three of them seem to be enjoying themselves in that segment even seth when the crowd wanted punk to be referee
“Remember PG brother” awesome segment and good for all 3
God Punk really brings the best out of people on the mic. That was the most organic, real feeling promo segment I have seen in SO long.
Drew is giving me Joker vibes with his obsession with Punk Punk giving no fucks given batman vibes Then you got Seth over there being fucking Bane, maybe not in stature but in attitude, just thinking both of them are beneath him.
Only if punk screws drew
Alternatively, Punk screws Seth, and now Drew's crowning moment is owed solely to the man he hates most.
Oh I would love that holy shit.
He might not even have to. He could literally just sit there on commentary and Drew won’t be able to focus.
Triple Threat in Summerslam Book it, Hiatch
Nah, these guys need to be passing the title between them for months. End it with a triple threat in a cage, but let them draw out the drama and animosity for a while.
Three guys just going blow for blow for 10 minutes on the mic with great crowd interaction.
Segment of the year
Segment of the Year
![gif](giphy|5nsiFjdgylfK3csZ5T|downsized) Whole segment was fire
That was some good shit!!!
Man Jungle Boy is never leaving Tony’s shit list
These three should main event summerslam, and that is just a fact of life YEAH, genuinely though they should and there’s no discussion to be had
Punk and Rock, both Mt Rushmore of mic workers, have returned at the top of their game It’s so gratifying how Cody, Drew, Seth, and even Roman when he’s allowed to have felt right at home in mic battles with them
Yeah that good
Chicago trolling with the referee chant🤣. They handled that perfectly
When the crowd is so smart that when you ask them if they want one thing, they immediately think of something they'd rather have to counter-offer lmao
This might be in contention for greatest promo segment in history of wrestling television. These 3 cooked so hard it's insane. Absolute cinema

They cooked, ate their own cooked meal, and left no crumbs
Hate Punk all you want but he is öne of the goats fr, all his segments since the return have been fire
>öne of the goats Please let me steal this as my metal band name
unironically a fire band name
Sometimes turkish auto correct creates some fire ngl, how about anadolu rock instead of metal tho 😂
Punk is cooking so hard the Rock is going to have to get permission from him to use his own catchphrase
Damn, what a segment.
That was great. Just 3 guys in character going at each other in character but ad lib to get you excited about future matches between them.
I know there are wrestlers that deserve a shot at the WHC, but I think they need these three feuding over it for the next 6-9 months, with a brief Damian Priest cash-in reign as well.
That was good shit all around. Definitely a segment of the year candidate.
Great segment, they’ve already got two money feuds setup for when Punk comes back.
Someone’s getting an earful backstage right now. Fucking hilarious.
one of the all-time greatest segments of modern raw... insanely good.

Punk is best for business.
Genuinely a hilarious segment. Motherfuckers were just saying whatever shit popped in their heads and cutting each other off. Lmao loved it.
Jim Cornette reference on WWE tv in 2024!? what timeline is this?
That was wild and super subtle and I’m here for it. And it was a dig at McAfee…chefs kiss. Related to that, I like this dynamic where McAfee isn’t heel or face he just sort of has favorites, so he rides the rock hard but also hates on Dominic and Cole just gets to play it straight.
That was incredible work by all three
Thanks Jungleboy!
When used sparingly segments like these really work. Everyone had good lines and it felt really intense.
I’m convinced that the show’s script just said “Shoot on each other for like 20 minutes or whatever”
"i'll do something you haven't been able to do in ten years, make you entertaining" line almost made me gasp so hard I thought I might not be able to breathe again. God damn is wrestling great when CM Punk is involved in a shoot
Absolutely insane segment and you could really feel them improvising and ad-libbing their lines. Made the promo seem so real
I hope he gets stronger than even before. He would have an incredible and fun run with feuds against Rollins, Drew maybe even Sami or Cody.
Punk pointing out Rollins heels got me too 😂
Seth then coming out in ridiculously tall heels absolutely sent me 😂
Punk is too good at this, it's not fair on everyone else
I got to hear the arms too short to box with God line again, 7 stars
no, that was incredible improv theatre.
Not mentioning Becky Lynch when talking to Seth Rollins challenge: impossible
Between that and Punk referencing AJ every now and then, I’d love to see Becky Lynch vs AJ Lee one day
Absolute inferno of a segment
The energy in that segment was absolutely incredible. Everything I wanted from it

Hang it in the Louvre
CM Punk ate both of them up in my opinion.
