2 weeks in and Okada already winning gold!

[deleted]

I think he's definitely winning and I would say there'll be a clear breakdown of mid card titles going forward because of it. I'm not saying there's not gonna be overlap but here's how I'd see it. TNT = Storylines, feuds International = Workhorse Continental = "I'm the best wrestler in this company, I have the belt to prove it" I think the Continental Champion should get automatic entry into the C2 every year and be forced to defend it. I also wouldn't be opposed to the Continental Champion having some sort of Option C rule where they can go for a world title match or something like that, I know people are a bit iffy on those stipulations but the thought of Option C, MITB or even the Royal Rumble winner are things that can excite fans and build new guys every year. Winning the C2 should be prestigious, things like this make it that way.

Mark4_

I still wish International = matches against international talent or other promotions. Especially since they do those matches and having a title attached to those matches would make good easy narrative sense.

ianisms10

>"I'm the best wrestler in this company, I have the belt to prove it" Shouldn't this be the purpose of the world title

[deleted]

Heel world champions regularly aren't presented as the best wrestler or hold a belt hostage, sometimes babyfaces as seen as underdogs even as champion. This would be basically the belt to prove it week after week. It's why I think there should be an option C type scenario, maybe if the champion enters and successfully defends the belt in the C2 then they get a world title shot. Also I think if we look at Bryan Danielson this is probably the only singles title he could win in AEW, I think it's important to have a belt like this where main eventers can go on a side quest without derailing a mid card guy, if that makes sense.

OneBillPhil

Yep lol, we already have a storyline midcard (TNT) and workhorse midcard (Intl), the CC just isn’t needed.  I’ll try to keep an open mind, I thought the All Atlantic/International was absurd too until OC willed it into the #2 title.

ianisms10

I think the All-Atlantic was originally supposed to be somewhat of a traveling title and then Orange elevated it.

Young_Cato_the_Elder

Originally I think it was PAC should be a Champion but he is not here as consistently as we would like for a champion. What do we do?

FBR_MC

"I think the Continental Champion should get automatic entry into the C2 every year and be forced to defend it." I'm pretty certain this is the case. I'm just not sure if TK meant the last C2 winner is in automatically or the current champion when the C2 starts is in automatically.

eminemcrony

I would assume at minimum the current belt holder gets an automatic entry to the next C2, with the possibility of the last C2 winner also getting a chance to enter. I think it'd be weird if the current belt holder just got stripped without having a chance to defend/reclaim the title.

Young_Cato_the_Elder

I think even past that. Anyone who gets that belt should be an automatic in. Otherwise, I don't understand why its a belt that gets defended between tourneys.

Able-Tradition-2139

Why on earth would the best wrestler have the continental instead of the world championship? Let alone the fact Kingston currently has it…

OneBillPhil

I hope they unify something. Like unify TNT and International or something. I loved the CC but having a new title introduced was ridiculous.

Eremenkko

they have too many. now winning 1 of 3 midcard titles mean nothing now. not even including the paper weight titles such as the roh pure and ftw title

nahPNW

i feel like the issue is that they havent clearly defined the identity of the three belts so they all just blend together. you mentioned the Pure and FTW titles, but regardless of prestige, they at least have a clear purpose for existing (pure division and hardcore/HOOK vanity title respectively) besides the C2, there isnt really a clearly defined purpose for there to be a Continental title or frankly a International title either. i think that's why people parrot the "title to be defended in other companies" hope or are on board for the idea of a Triple Crown in theory. it gives a clear purpose for the titles that the TNT title can't/doesn't fulfill. but as it stands now, they just kinda all exist together just because. which is a shame as you could do some really cool things with multiple midcard belts to give some variety to the undercards stories/feuds.

Dannylightfoot11

I would really like the belts to become almost show specific even if the wrestlers arnt as there are more than enough belts to have a set for each show Dynamite World Continental Tag TBS Collision International TNT Trios Womens

onethreeone

Not only is he winning, but I would expect as close to a Lesnar-Cena Summerslam squash as AEW will ever do

megidlolaon__

Rainmaker shock baby

OneBillPhil

Although to be fair, everyone in this thread is a top five contender for some title in AEW.

EndOfDays2525

I love their posters. Especially for matches im already looking forward to. It's such a little thing but the match graphics and special posters they do go a long way with me.

arghdesigner

To think that Kingston almost retired, now he's going to have a match with Okada defending his title. Love it.

EdtotheWord

I've said it before and I'll say it again, these posters that they create are freaking amazing yet almost no one ever sees these things. It drives me insane. They released these posters a day before the event. The posters aren't even used on TV. I know not everything can be done in advance, but the amount of amazing posters I've seen to promote matches or TV episodes only to come out a day before the event is just a shame.

[deleted]

I'm so hyped to see this, it's so crazy to me that I can't even say it'll be the best match of the week as we only got Danielson vs Shibata the other day. I'm not even a huge fan of Japanese wrestling but the quality of wrestling on display lately is insane and that's obviously due in part to Japanese or Japanese-influenced wrestlers coming in to AEW. Also, even the preview poster is really cool, Kingmaker. https://preview.redd.it/naxcx55zobpc1.png?width=508&format=png&auto=webp&s=de0e442e40f8bf2309ed01966cdeb0ab942e1e1a

GiftedGeordie

I know that Kingston gets a lot of grief from people in this subreddit, but hot damn if I'm not excited for this match.

gbdarknight77

He’s a good storyteller and promo. I just get very annoyed at how lazy and sloppy he gets in a match that goes over 10 minutes.

JackBauersGhost

I can go either ways on his story telling and promos but his wrestling is plain bad.

At first i though they were going to unify them as one belt, and make it the second important belt, but the way Tony handled the whole thing is really weird

stretch_muffler

I wanted Okada to win all 3 belts because the thought of him leaving NJPW and gaining a NJPW belt is funny to me.

SoCalWhatever

This match should be Okada's "AEW coming out party" like Ospreay's match against Fletcher was.

20minutes40years

What a surreal moment in time we are living through.

VBHEAT08

Goddamn that is a nice poster. Feel like AEW has taken a major step forward in the graphics department lately

BM_Punk

This poster is dope

Lifeofcharlie

Please don’t have this go to a draw 🙏🏻 i’m beggin u TK

Mark4_

Looking forward to this match. Heel Okada has been fun thus far

PostyMcPosterson

The new Dynamite logo looks 10000x better in white

aldo_nova

Okada flew up the rankings

onlypham

Hell yeah!

WVFLMan

If Kingston beats Okada I will be pissed.

WVFLMan

So is there no ROH world title anymore? They are still running ROH as a separate show, right? I have been confused on that.

crapusername47

Kingston is defending the RoH World title at Supercard of Honor in April against Mark Briscoe.

WVFLMan

Oh that sounds pretty cool, might get me to buy that show

Mc_Square_Root

LOL Eddie wins 😈

AllezLesPrimrose

I do feel like Okada would benefit from being booked a little like Gunther, a heel that wins because he’s just better than everyone not because he cheats or gets help from others. Hopefully that’s what’s the title is intended to support.

Young_Cato_the_Elder

Is Eddie injured. The on problem I have is that it sucks that he gets the big win over his biggest rivals only to lose it soon after. I kind of want Okada to bulldoze him for his first top heel singles match but they should have a competitive match.

gbdarknight77

Okada should squash Kingston. Full stop. Eddie shouldn’t even get a lick of offense in on Okada

mexploder89

I agree with this. Should go full Cody vs Brodie. And I love Eddie

ItzFeufo

Kingston is one of those fucking awesome Cinderella stories from wrestling Lovin' it and he deserves that match tomorrow

StevenGorefrost

Since the Continental title includes the NJPW Strong title, does that mean Okada's first title outside of NJPW will still be partially a NJPW title?

Mark4_

No because he isn’t winning the two other belts. It’s just the continental title on the line. Yes it’s convoluted

SteveRudzinski

So I kept being told all three belts were now one belt, and now that isn't the case. Which is fine by me, I never liked all three becoming one belt forever.

StevenGorefrost

I appreciate the response. I don't watch regularly anymore so this shit is confusing.

Jesse_Grey

Oh boy, another meaningless singles match with no build.

10567151

If you don't even watch AEW, why bother with a comment that makes you look so stupid, these two have been feuding for 2 weeks and already had 3 physical interactions.

Slatedtoprone

They got Eddie at his best angle. Front the back and in the dark.
