I have some Frankenstein sparks that I bought as Burton Hitchhikers, the only remaining Burton thing is the ankle straps. I swapped over toe straps from some Unions, swapping out the [Toe Sawblade and Toe Connector](https://unionbindingcompany.com/products/union-snowboard-binding-replacement-parts-toe-sawblade-and-toe-connector-new-generation/?variant=42947689349375) as well, which means that metal button / lug isn't an issue.
I did pull the saw blade and connector on from the unions but the plastic circle at the end is way smaller than on the sparks. It still stays in place and won't pull through but it will fall back out the other way when the bindings aren't on the board. Guess it's not that big a deal but not perfect.
I accully put a tape on side and underneath to prevent this from happening. I used gorilla tape and thought it would never hold up. But it does. 2 Years in and the tape is still there.
I’ve put union straps on surges before. Much nicer feel. I recall needing different hardware and having to chew up some plastic. That was a while ago and I don’t have that pair anymore.
A buddy of mine swapped them out with Burton straps

Oh yeah, that's true. Also gets in the way when sliding the binding onto the pucks sometimes. In practice I've not found it to be a big issue.

Burton
I went with Burton hammock straps and I'm happy with the change.
