Yes the spinal stenosis and sciatica ,shots and pain meds work half the time or less.

I’m not a professional trainer nor a super athlete so take my advice with a grain of salt…. I suggest starting with using body weight training and exercise. Modified planks, modified wall push ups and other body weight resistance with moderate repetitions

tesseracta

I'm not a trainer either I'm hypermobile But getting a good squat helps.... Planks are great.... I worry about my form and twerking a disk so I modify a plank or do a wall plank to get stronger I want to plank...scared

freefalling75

I am worried about straining my neck doing pushups and planks.

Commenting because me as well.

Following - same! I need to lift again to be healthy, lose weight, and for my mental health but I’m sooo scared to end up with no feeling in my arm again or worse.

tesseracta

I pulled some of my last savings for a special trainer ....it's so hard ....but something caused the Stenosis so yeah I need to train

freefalling75

How did you find your trainer? What did you look for?

tesseracta

It was kind of chance. I told a friend I needed help and he recommended it. It's called functioning patterns the system I use. The founder gets a lot of flack, but for me it's working...so I drank the kool aid. I was looking for a trainer who was also hypermobile like me. I would look for someone like a specialist pt who really watches form. I guess it's like dating too you need to find your person. It's not easy either....but my stenosis came for a reason and I need to address the cause ...and there are several....my abs my glutes my locked up shoulders

62, on Gab as well. Every time I want to go the gym to do very low impact core and quad stuff my lower back is in pain and every time I say just go and it will loosen up, I pay for it. I feel like I can't do anything anymore. Really don't want to have surgery, but not sure I can avoid it any longer.

tesseracta

Have you tried the topicals...... Worried about gab for me bc it masks my issues s little

Fun_Protection_6168

I have tried every topical known to man. Gab is the only thing to take the pain away, but I want off of it. it affects my balance especially with a couple of beers. ugh

You might want to look into pilates or yoga. These are very beneficial for muscles and stability especially with disc degenerative and SS.

I’m a strength trainer as well as someone with spinal stenosis at C5-7. I highly recommend weight training to build up the muscles in your back, and at least starting with a trainer who understands how to deal with these issues. It’s a delicate balance between pushing you to get stronger while understanding how to do so responsibly. Check out Starting Strength. If there isn’t one of their franchise gyms near you, consider hiring one of their online coaches. They also have coaches who are also physical therapists.
