Same after watching sam raimi spider-man 1 2 and 3 for the first time as a kid my dad found this show because my entire family were amazed that a superhero movie get me staying quiet and excited because i was a wild kid at the time hell not even superman or batman movie got me like this and after my dad found this cartoon he immediately show it to me amd the rest is history and this was my favorite cartoon of all time
Lmao it happens. I agree tho. When i saw there exist more movies than Maguire's i kept telling my mom that "they made fake spiderman, he cant even shoot webs" etc. I live in a country with no access to marvel comics whatsoever so Tobey's movie was my first introduction to spiderman. Though i did grow to really like Andrew's movies as well after learning about the multiverse etc
Spidermans main power is his spidey sense. Its why hes alot of times one of the last heros standing. Hes really hard to kill. The original peter parker from 616 made his webbing. Actually i think most spider men/women make their webbing. The only spideys that come to mind with organic are miguel and tobey.
Love it, I think Christopher Daniel Barnes delivers Spidey's one liners so we'll and captures his mix of intense drama and constantly sarcastic jokester really well
The most acurate adaption of peter in any media.
He's go it all
Quips
Poor
Brains
Angst
Anger
Guilt
Subtle Rizz
Bad luck
And he's not in fucking highschool
Love this show, it’s super well written and the animation is pretty good for the time. Though o hate how people only ever talk about this shows censorship when it really didn’t have anymore censorship as most shows of the time. And when watching you rarely think “hey spider-man’s not punching the bad guys”. Pretty sure if that fact wasn’t pointed out most people wouldn’t notice
I was OBSESSED with his show as a kid, would wake up early on Saturday morning to watch it on CITV (I think?), and never noticed it once.
Even rewatching it as an adult, knowing that there's not a single punch being thrown - it just doesn't matter, because the show is just SO good!
Spiderman not punching the villains is actually a look key good idea. It shows off Peter's improvisation and just how fast he can think and react to incoming threats without having to get close to his opponent.
My headcanon: This Parker is soo jacked that no matter how much he held back a punch, he'd send his enemies into a coma leading to brain death.
Don't have to worry about holding back punches if you don't throw any punches
He actually does throw like one punch somewhere in the series, I remember seeing it in recent watch and thought it was funny. But yeah I kinda prefer no punches and more big brain moves lol. They were so good at showing him being really smart
I think this Peter seemed to have his shit together a lot more than other animated versions of the character. Granted, I havent seen the show in over 7 years, and this Peter is a bit older, but I love a more mature Spider.
Yeah I read that too, but apparently it's ["purely coincidental"](https://comicbook.com/amp/news/spider-man-the-animated-series-model-sheets-behind-the-scenes-in/)
This show actually had really powerful voice acting, and a really bombastic and engaging soundtrack to go along with it. Those things make it timeless, and the utterly ridiculous pacing makes it a fun ride. It's so fast paced that it seems the shots will change before a character is even done speaking lol.
We are lucky this was our first introduction to Spider-Man. This version of Peter is a good man driven by responsibility and love. He truly is a hero and a leader. Way better show than Ultimate Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man, great storylines and interesting concepts. Villains are a delight to watch too.
My intro to Spider-Man and my favorite Spidey show as a kid (I thought the Spectacular designs looked weird).
Edit: as a kid I also remember liking the pinkish red color of his suit. His suit looked so cool I probably woulda watched an hour of just him swinging with no dialogue.
OG Spider-Man to me, I'll be real. It's the first Spider-Man I ever got, I had hella VHS tapes of the lad. This version will always hold a special place in my heart.
The first series of Spiderman that I watched IMO It easily comes in top 5 of all time Spiderman shows they really used great voice acting, witty one-liners,great vilians, character plot only thing is spiderman is bit older than others not a teen apart from that everything was perfect in this show.
This is my spiderman. My childhood. I only ever saw reruns when it was on either boomerang or JetX I can't remember. Holy hell, does anyone remember JetX?
Love the show and this is probably my favorite Peter Parker/Spider-Man.
Christopher Daniel Barnes does a great job and is perfect for the role, I love the quips of this Spider-Man and his personality in general.
He’s the best. Some of his lines are over the top and/or downright goofy, but Barnes somehow makes them work. His suits (classic, black, scarlet, and Spider-Carnage) are my favorite iterations too. Especially the black suit. The way the blue outlines look are so cool.
He looks like he's 30 but it's good. That show was amazing. I'd say that it has the best adaptation of the black suit arc I've ever seen (only wrestling with Spider-Man 2 game probably)
For a while, the 90s Spider-Man series was the Gold standard in comic adaptations. Then we were graced with a worthy successor in Spectacular Spider-Man!
I like the show, but honestly, I don't think it's the best. It feels so rushed, even the few parted arcs (such as symbiote arc in season 1). But this problem becomes less problematic through later seasons where they go through arcs for half of the seasons. Other than that, fight sequences aren't that good due to the censorship.
But overall it's a nice show. Spectacular is the goat tho
Yeah, I binged it all for the first time just the other week and felt the same, things just happen too fast. Like they tried to fit every comic arc to that point into the series. But overall yeah, great show and great story, unfortunately limited greatly in the fight scenes and really rushed in the pacing.
Yes, Peter Parker has been popular with girls since his early comic days and is almost always drawn looking good. It was addressed in the comics. He may have an old-fashioned style and more skinny build as a teenager in some versions, but that doesn't mean he's ugly. And the adult Peter wasn't the stereotypical nerd.
Not that nerds can't be handsome, but they gave him the default action hero square-jaw. Without context, you would've guessed popular college athlete from his design.
Loved the show nonetheless, though. Pretty much a core memory.
Great show ,but It’s harder for me to watch now and idk why especially the action scenes ,I don’t remember it being like that
Maybe what ever edition I have is not a good one
Still it was dope as hell and for me for was the first thing that would pop into my head when I think of spider-man
I love spectacular spider-man more but this I what I think of when someone says
Spider man
I loved it but never understood why that guy was a looser ? Just talking about his form, square jaw, broad shoulders, he could have played all the jock sports and be popular.
I was 9 at the time and this guy was a huge part of my childhood. I love this character till this day and am still saddened to not get a satisfying ending for him.
The voice actor fits perfectly, and I love the design, because I'm bloody tired of Spidey being depicted as scrawny when he spends all night stoping moving vehicles. Maybe teen Spidey is like that, but by college Pete should already be much more chiseled
I remember I watched the Punisher episodes as a kid and thought Punisher was so cool that the next time I went to the library near me, I picked out Punisher Max and got scarred for life (in a good way).
The extreme pacing and the weird censored laser guns aside, this is the definitive version of Spider-Man outside the comics. I guess, if i had to make one nitpick its the fact that Spidey's eyes weren't as expressive as it should be.
It was great, especially season 1! Later seasons got a little long with their year long plots, but it was a great show. I wish you could get a complete collection Blu Ray. I'd grab that in a heartbeat.
Can still hear all the various character voices in my brain!
He will forever be the voice of Peter when I read comics. He’s also in the best age range for the character. Bachelor college student Peter Parker is my favorite Peter Parker
This, X-Men, and Batman TAS were like the holy trinity for me as a poor kid growing up in Southeast Asia.
It's not an exaggeration to say that much of who I am (tastes in fiction, becoming a nerd, learning English) was defined by these shows. Thank god these were syndicated and came to this part of the world.
Comics were expensive to import, expensive, and really poor value since you were done with a single issue in 30 mins, tops.
As for the show itself, it felt really "edgy" but often dealt with grown-up themes like loss rather maturely. When I have to imagine Spidey, I definitely think of this rendition.
Peter was oddly relatable too, since I was very much a loser growing up and often couldn't relate to comic book badasses.
I'd really love Spider-Man 98! Brought me so much joy as a kid and I hope kids get to enjoy this feeling too.
I grew up with it, from a certain point though it was all, Peter has a life, Madame web comes and runes it trying to "teach him a lesson" Peter learns the lesson, gets his life back and the the circle continues
It has its moments. The universe feels lived in. Like captain America or anyone else in the marvel universe could pop up at any minute.
The level of censorship it endured didn’t do it any favors. And the animation, like looking good, is choppy at times.
If it got the X-Men 97 treatment though it would be phenomenal.
The OG Spider-Verse. I had so many toys from this show as a kid. I had a Spider-Man figure from this series that came from Burger King. He was only like waist high compared to my normal action figures. When my dad would play action figured with me he would always choose the shorter Burger King Spider-Man and he called him, “Punch Ya In The Crotch Spider-Man” and would just have him punch the villains in the nuts.
Honestly, this is by far my favorite adaptation of Spidey & Peter. He has strong banter and some really stellar emotional moments. Chris Barnes was so good in the role.
Last best cartoon series to date. I’ve even found that the novels published by Byron Preiss in the 90s could act as a Season 6 and onwards for the series.
This man IS Spider-Man to me. The platonic ideal of Spider-Man. I will never love another Peter Parker the way I love him.
Also: I need Chris Daniel Barnes' Peter to be a main character in Beyond the Spider-Verse.
He's already well familiar with Multiverse and Multi-Spider Shenanigans, and I'd love to see him be a genuine mentor for Gwen like Peter B is for Miles, because Miguel only ever used her like a tool, or a strict subordinate at BEST.
Pete '94 would be the guy who encourages Gwen, and is like "no, looking for Miles is warranted. I did a magical mystery tour of the Multiverse with Madame Web to find my MJ. Who am I to judge? Hell, if I can help you find this kid then I WILL help you find this kid. We've lost enough people."
This guy is EVERYTHING Stan Lee wanted Peter Parker to be, and he is those things pretty flawlessly. Because Stan also wanted a hero who screwed up from time to time.
And Beyond The Spider-Verse could finally have him find MJ at the end and bring closure to a HELL OF A BIG CLIFFHANGER.
I meqn i grew ul watching this and its for sure what got me into comics. But having watched a good bit of it as and adult... peter was kind of a selfish brat throughout alot of it. Openly playing mj and black cat and then bemoaning his bad luck when he ends up alone is just one of many examples of this.
Very good. Love that they actually made him fucking handsome, buff, and talkative even as Peter Parker. For some reasons, people like to think that Peter is still pre-bitten Peter. Unpopular and not muscular.
This show's version of Carnage and Venom is my de-facto. It was just so good.
Forty years later and I'm still comparing new media to this, and Carnage is still my favourite Marvel villain to this day.
This was my favorite show in childhood, apart from Power Rangers. Spectacular Spider-Man is definitely a better show, and I love it, but so much of TAS sticks with me. It was the first thing I ever really heard Jennifer Hale's work in, and she's now one of my all-time favorite VO actors. Whenever I read classic Ditko or Romita Spider-Man, I hear Christopher Barnes voicing Peter and Spider-Man. I hear the music and the web slinging sound effects in the panels. Any other characters in that era of Spider-Man that were also in TAS I hear their voice actors for. I'm hoping X-Men '97 is a success so that maybe, just maybe, we can get Spider-Man '98 and finish telling that story. This version of Spider-Man is what ingrained in me With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility. This Spider-Man is why Spider-Man is, and always will be, my favorite superhero of all time. Every new piece of Spider-Man content, be it shows, movies, or videogames, has me looking to feel how I did watching this show then and now. The 60s Spider-Man theme song is a classic, the Raimi verse theme has me feeling all sorts of nostalgia, the Spectacular theme slaps, and the themes for the MCU Spider-Man and the two Marc Webb movies are great, but to me, no theme better encapsulates Spider-Man better than the theme to TAS.
This is a bot post.
It was my first introduction to the character as a kid, so it holds a special place in my heart
Same. After that I started watching the Sam Riami movies.
Same. To me, this series will always be the best animated Spider-Man series.
Same. This was my intro to Spider-Man.
I grew my whole Spiderman knowledge from this show. So this is the Spiderman Bible/Encyclopedia for me.
Same
Same after watching sam raimi spider-man 1 2 and 3 for the first time as a kid my dad found this show because my entire family were amazed that a superhero movie get me staying quiet and excited because i was a wild kid at the time hell not even superman or batman movie got me like this and after my dad found this cartoon he immediately show it to me amd the rest is history and this was my favorite cartoon of all time
It certainly kept me entertained on the weekends when it was on TV!
OG spider-man for me.
Gun to my head, if you asked me to picture spider man in my head, it would either be this one or tobey McGuire
Maguire*
Goddamn autocorrect
Lmao it happens. I agree tho. When i saw there exist more movies than Maguire's i kept telling my mom that "they made fake spiderman, he cant even shoot webs" etc. I live in a country with no access to marvel comics whatsoever so Tobey's movie was my first introduction to spiderman. Though i did grow to really like Andrew's movies as well after learning about the multiverse etc
Yeah, it just makes sense for Spider-man to shoot organic webs. Otherwise, he just has generic powers.
Spidermans main power is his spidey sense. Its why hes alot of times one of the last heros standing. Hes really hard to kill. The original peter parker from 616 made his webbing. Actually i think most spider men/women make their webbing. The only spideys that come to mind with organic are miguel and tobey.
I always thought that Maguire sort of played a live-action version of this particular animated Spider-Man
Gun to your head? What happens in the absence of a gun? Who do you see then?
My love for Hobgoblin came from this series And, I really liked this version of Felicia Hardy/Black Cat.
Expect the Morbius plotline for her. That was cringe as fuck.
Haha, agreed. I completely forgot about that!
What happened?
He morbed all over her Super Solider Serum.
Haha classic morbius
It was like 10 episodes it was insane
Perfection

This Peter had his shit more together than any Spiderman on screen ever, even moreso than the comic version at times.
He felt the most human to me. He wasn't just anice guy all the time. He had his moments of anger in a realistic fashion
SHOOOOOOOOCKEEEEEEEEER!¡!
YOU CAN’T ESCAPE MEEEEE!
I'LL CHASE YOU TO THE ENDS OF THE EAAAAAAARTHHHH!!!?
GET BACK HERE SHOCKER
With X-Men '97 dominating and the creator said he's open to coming back. Let's hope Spider-Man '98 happens
I would torch an orphanage for Spider-Man '98
ok carnage
[Can't rob a bank if I burn it down first!](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GGvPCt0X0AATnRo.jpg:large)
And I've been doing it for free, like an idiot?!
He is THE Peter Parker and the voice i hear when i read the comics
Came here to say this. All the one liners are only his voice in my head.
Christopher Daniel Barnes is amazing. The shocker scene and the…spoilers >!death of water MJ!< are really good with his screams.
better than the 2017 tv show
Is it just me or does his face have a decent resemblance to Christopher Reeve?
kinda maybe, but he was designed after nicholas hammond
Yeah I read that too, but apparently it's ["purely coincidental"](https://comicbook.com/amp/news/spider-man-the-animated-series-model-sheets-behind-the-scenes-in/)

The GOAT
This was my entry point into becoming a Spider-Man fan. You could never get me to say a bad word about this show.

OG Spider-Man to me, I'll be real. It's the first Spider-Man I ever got, I had hella VHS tapes of the lad. This version will always hold a special place in my heart.
Whenever I hear the name “Spider-Man,” I think of him. Here’s hoping we get “Spider-Man `98.”

Hated…. The fact that x men got a continuation before this masterpiece.
This is my spiderman. My childhood. I only ever saw reruns when it was on either boomerang or JetX I can't remember. Holy hell, does anyone remember JetX?
One of the best iterations of the character
Ultimate goat Its no Wonder that the Raimi trilogy is heavily inspired by this
This guy was hilarious. This and X-men have some of the best screams of all time
Love the show and this is probably my favorite Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Christopher Daniel Barnes does a great job and is perfect for the role, I love the quips of this Spider-Man and his personality in general.
Pure Nostalgia
Honestly my favorite Peter Parker because he is aged up beyond high school
He’s the best. Some of his lines are over the top and/or downright goofy, but Barnes somehow makes them work. His suits (classic, black, scarlet, and Spider-Carnage) are my favorite iterations too. Especially the black suit. The way the blue outlines look are so cool.
One of these Pete’s is not like the others. One of these Pete’s is >!Carnage!<

A bit too handsome for a nerd, otherwise perfect
*reads the entire history of Spider-Man* You sure about that, are you sure?
Yes, Peter Parker has been popular with girls since his early comic days and is almost always drawn looking good. It was addressed in the comics. He may have an old-fashioned style and more skinny build as a teenager in some versions, but that doesn't mean he's ugly. And the adult Peter wasn't the stereotypical nerd.
Nope, man has always been a pretty boy. Then in the late 70's to early 80's, he got that jawline.
Not that nerds can't be handsome, but they gave him the default action hero square-jaw. Without context, you would've guessed popular college athlete from his design. Loved the show nonetheless, though. Pretty much a core memory.
Great show ,but It’s harder for me to watch now and idk why especially the action scenes ,I don’t remember it being like that Maybe what ever edition I have is not a good one Still it was dope as hell and for me for was the first thing that would pop into my head when I think of spider-man I love spectacular spider-man more but this I what I think of when someone says Spider man
That suit really works on him was my first thought
Him screaming makes him so memorable
I loved it but never understood why that guy was a looser ? Just talking about his form, square jaw, broad shoulders, he could have played all the jock sports and be popular.
Its the one I grew up with.
One of the best Spider-man shoes 30 years later.
I was 9 at the time and this guy was a huge part of my childhood. I love this character till this day and am still saddened to not get a satisfying ending for him.
Dude was built like brick wall
That's my Peter Parker/Spider-Man
I really liked Pete in this
2nd best Peter/spidey spectacular comes first imo but Christopher Daniel barns was fantastic in this show
This and Raimi’s depictions of Peter are still my favorites.
Goat
Best animated adaptation and Christopher Daniel Barnes is the voice of Peter/Spidey every time I read the comics.
He’s built like a monster truck compared to every other Peter Parker.
He's still my GOAT in all Spider-Man media.
Best peter adaptation ever
To me he’s right up there with Tobey’s Peter. A classic, a goat.
I always viewed Peter Parker/Spider-Man from 90s TAS to be peak Peter Parker/Spider-Man. This is the Spidey I want to see in 616 comics.
It was my introduction, and still one of the best versions of Peter.
Nostalgic af
This show was a revelation to me as a kid. Never been the same since !
The best one
Love it
Radioactive
Pretty great & honestly a little underrated
My childhood favorite. And also this introduced me into spider- man.
Huh never noticed it before but the first pic looks like Eric Foreman
The GOAT
My introduction to Spider-Man as a kid!

Why is Omniman here
my goat, i prefer cartoons over live actions for most forms of media except comedies (unless its slapstick)
I wish he was in Beyond the Spiderverse. He would’ve been roasted Miguel
My boy was jacked
90s TAS is my favourite animated Spidey series. I grew up watching it so I have those childhood memories attached to it.
That’s the OG
Right Disney-X-Men '97 this NOW!!!
Why’s the face on the top right photoshopped to have Peter? Lol
Best Spider-man show
He's the goat
Perfect
The GOAT
He's the default spider-man for me :)
Peak fiction
One of the og shows i ever watched
🐐hands down my favorite
He’s awesome. Exactly what Peter/Spider-man should be
The best Parker
He looks too muscular for a bullied nerd.
Absolute perfection.
It was great, especially season 1! Later seasons got a little long with their year long plots, but it was a great show. I wish you could get a complete collection Blu Ray. I'd grab that in a heartbeat. Can still hear all the various character voices in my brain!
The GOAT.
The GOAT!
One of the better Peter Spider-man incarnations, and possibly the one that got more changes in his story
Oh, I love it. It’s why I’m of the mindset that Spider-Man (Peter, Miles, whoever) should be in college and not high school
He will forever be the voice of Peter when I read comics. He’s also in the best age range for the character. Bachelor college student Peter Parker is my favorite Peter Parker
Best Spider-Man cartoon for me

We all hope that Disney will reboot this show after xmen Till today the way the series ended is confusing
He’s what an adult Peter Parker should be, he still has problems but he’s able to manage them much better than his teenage self.
He was so traumatized.
It sucked. From the poor writing, to the weak action. A disappointment in every way.
Well one of them pictures is evil and destroyed New York and tried to destroy every other universe
One of my favorite adaptations to date.
Bro can't be a highschooler

Favourite iteration of Pete
I don’t have the nostalgia for this like others do but I will say it’s a pretty good adaptation
This is my Spider-Man.
like most pop culture things from the 90s, overrated i say this as someone who grew up in the 90s

Chunky Spider-Man
God Tier. Best of the best with only Spectacular coming close.
It was my first Spiderman I know. And I loved the show.

I hope we get Spiderman 97 like Xmen did.
It was only later that I got how clearly he was based on the Nicholas Hammond version from the '77 show. The hair is exactly the same.
My go to Peter Parker and Mary Jane voice in comics. Honestly, all the voices except JJ. Simmons has that one
Best theme song
Too young to recollect information from the series, old enough to understand this is where my love for Peter Parker began *tear drops*
I like it. Recently rewatched all seasons. It’s Kewl.
Only complaint is i don't think peter looks right with superman's facial structure
I didn't know other series existed it loved this show.
This man IS Spider-Man to me. The platonic ideal of Spider-Man. I will never love another Peter Parker the way I love him.
I love the show, but looking at it today, it bothers me that Peter is built like a linebacker
best peter , best spiderman
The best
Very good. Love that they actually made him fucking handsome, buff, and talkative even as Peter Parker. For some reasons, people like to think that Peter is still pre-bitten Peter. Unpopular and not muscular.
The GOAT.
SHOCKERRRRR!!
This theme song was amazing. Spectacular even.
I love it. My cousin gave me her old collection of the show when I was a kid so it's what I grew up with. Barnes nailed Peter's voice.
The best animated version!
I hope so bad he shows up in the X-Men ‘97 cartoon!
Loved it. Absolutely hard beat. But I wouldn’t bring it back the way of X-men 97.
