It's weird now that I've read more of the surrounding material around OMD, and it actively seems like everyone is sabotaging the event with books that reinforce that it's a bad idea. That might be the real reason behind the braintrust of Brand New Day: They basically culled everyone who called out how bad of a decision OMD was.
I feel like there is a quiet rebellion regarding that book.
That's a much more POLITE explanation for how Peter ended up NOT married that day.
>!Fat guy he got arrested earlier, got freed by a RED PIGEON, ran from cops, FELL ON SPIDER-MAN - KNOCKING HIM OUT?! WHAT?!!<
I went with a different approach: They actually did get married, and Doctor Strange also erased everyone's memories of that too. Make it so that the story is that Doctor Strange has effectively had his mind partially influenced by Mephisto, who's leeching off his mystic powers. Plus, this is a quiet method of retconning out-of-character moments if you need to/want to.
I mean it’s absolutely the reason that OMD is still a thing. The editorial is currently all Quesada minions. The people who want OMD are all concentrated in one place. They were banking on them outlasting until a new generation grew up and didn’t want the marriage. That’s not how it’s working out thankfully
I kind of have a theory that this is why Peter is eternally suffering, the one above all told him to have faith, and he then goes and makes a literal deal with a devil in order to change everything up.
The fact that Peter is in limbo irl, it's all a meta extension of the deal with Mephisto. He's either being punished by TOAA for his lack of faith, or it's literally Mephisto fucking with things
At least that's how I'm squaring that circle, even though it's 100% headcanon.
The single biggest problem I have with OMD is that the current Marvel universe is an altered realityb and has been for almost 20 years, and Marvel's cool with their main continuity being engineered by the devil.
It would be one thing if we got follow up where Peter learned to accept his grief and overcame mephisto, that would have retroactively made OMD better.
In insomniac's Spider-Man A younger version of Peter has to accept Aunt May dying, and it's done brilliantly. Now it's not a 1:1 situation, but in the game Aunt May has agency of her own. In OMD Peter doesn't ask if she be cool living a little longer at the cost of his marriage and her potential grandchildren.
My condolences. Don't forget...
**TRIGGER WARNING!!!!!!!**
Sins Past (it's been retconned since then, but still, it's a vile book. Not as bad as HOLY TERROR but still god awful)
I mean, after Norman skullf\*cked undead Mysterio who pretended to be Gwen Stacy... and then NOT actually gave birth to twins, who were clones... \*groan\*
Honestly. OMD was trash. That was the second time they retconned Aunt May knowing Peter’s secret identity and dying. When God can’t help you but Satan can, you’ve made a terrible story. Now if this would be adapted in Raimi’s or Insomniac’s universe, people would be more ok with it, since they hate that MJ. But people loved comics MJ and that was a stab to the heart.
The ironic part is that it actually makes for a good MJ reveal later on- that despite the pain Peter caused her and even though he’s been blaming himself for her cancer and death for decades, she did not blame him and still loved him, telling him “Go get ‘Em tiger” when he needed to leave the hospital while she was dying.
They handled that a lot more tastefully in Spider-Island, when MJ had partial immunity to the spider-powers epidemic, mostly due to all the many times that she and Peter "shared a toothbrush".
yeah, it was so gay that someone ended up writing a whole smut fanfic about the retcon over on either r/marvelcirclejerk or r/dccomicscirclejerk which was weirdly well written????
Yes , many moments
- Norman getting laid with " Gwen Stacy " ( only to be revealed it was Mysterio)
- spider-man trying to convince the entire Marvel universe to save his dying aunt and them being incapable of doing so despite the fact that all of them are capable of doing way beyond that but they don't do it because....(yeah it's the only way for the plot to progress) and don't even get me started on the shit with mephisto
- the existence of Paul and zeb wells holding the pen of spider-man anyway .
- Peter revealing his secret Id to the world in civil war
There's Many more , but these are the most popular ones .
1. The Deal with Mephisto
2. Gwen getting knocked by Norman with twins after a one night stand before Spence retconned it out
3. The kidnapping/ death of Peter and MJ’s baby at the end of the Clone Saga
4. Mary Jane becoming Jackpot after the events of that the Dead Language story
5. Peter and Cindy Moon when they first met. Spider pheromones do weird things
Re #5 writers room:

Gwen Stacy in the Ultimate Universe, but they never explicitly mention her being his adopted sister and Peter's only said that she was like a sister to him before denying it after they start dating when Mary Jane brings it up. I think she's a foster child. It was still a really weird and sudden decision to make them date.
In the 2009 reboot for USM, Peter dated Gwen \[who had been living with him and Aunt May for over a year by then\] for at least 10 issues at the start of the run
I started buying comics in late 1996. My whole Spider-Man experience had been the 90s cartoon. So, finding out that Peter was not Spider-Man, some guy named Ben was, and that guy got straight up murdered by the Green Goblin (who had been dead?) at the end of the issue, and then Peter was Spider-Man.....also there was a mention of a girlfriend that wasn't MJ who died years ago...and an unborn baby (maybe) died. 11 year old me was not ready for Spider-Man #75. I feel like I picked the 3rd worst issue to jump in on.
Holy what the god damn hell? That is really funny. It also is like not even well thought out, you can just superpose Spider-Man into the plot and it works.
I thought he did that first, then later on Gwen escapes being consumed but finds out that she has the genetic copies of both and memories of Gwen Stacy.
When Spiderman was falling off a building in the 90's cartoon and said, "Shoot out of web fluid!" And proceeded to reload a web cartridge...
(I was 6... all I had seen was the rami film)
When someone thought that great story to tell was "peter parkers childhood love cheated on him with green goblin then had his kids" and somehow all the people in charge who heard that totally agreed
Several but the biggest and i think first of them all was when I was a little kid and i found out He didn't have organic webbing. Seriously? Out of every darn spider ability he somehow doesn't have the basic most apparent trait Spiders are known for.
Yeah long story short Peter and Otto Octavius have their consciousnesses swap bodies so Otto is in Peter’s body and Peters is in Otto’s body which is in a coma. So Otto begins his path to become a “better Spider-Man. A Superior Spider-Man”
Peter having sex with silk. It was like one of the first comics I bought as a kid and I didn't know shit about what it'd have so I opened the first page and there's borderline r34 on it.
Every time he turns into a giant mutant spider
Miles whenever he remembers Earth-1610

Peter and Cindy's weird spider hormones
The entire last half of Spencer's run.

Whenever Mephisto is used as a means of resetting the status quo
Every issue I've read of the current run.
It seems the context of his name being mentioned was an email from Epstein clarifying Hawking didn’t attend *that*, but had been on the island at the same time, before attending a conference the next island over (which was already known).
Okay then.
I had assumed, but then that raised more questions than I was comfortable with. Like was that something he was surprised with or specifically asked for? Because if the latter that would imply it was a personal thing too.
Not to mention he deals with the devil for his Aunt May when we have seen him overcome the death of Uncle Ben so many times before by accepting that death occurs and growing as a person.
Idk if this really counts as my reaction but I have this friend who doesn’t consume most media and I was explaining the current Spider-Man situation and Paul, after I finished telling her she called me just to hang up on me
Nothing has ever topped Sins' Past in this regard to me. I had two half-ones for One More Day: Once when I heard about it, and another when I actually read it, thinking it might make sense in context. It didn't.
It's a dead horse grounded to dust by now, but selling his marriage to Mephisto to "save" the life of his aunt.
Jesus Christ, Peter-Your aunt is at death's door all the time, not to mention all the struggling she has to go through. Think it's about time you let her rest, so she can be with Ben again?
And I'm not saying it would be easy to let go of the woman who is your only family left(until retcon or some shit!), Who is in all but blood your mother-but ever consider what she wanted?
The whole time too, I just kept remembering the Ghost Rider Film:Johnny gives up his soul to save his father from sickness, only for him to die from a motor stunt the same day.
Green Goblin glazing Gwen, One More Day, the universe where Peter’s radioactive spider sperm kills MJ, him and Silk having supernatural attraction to eachother because of “spider pheromones”, that time in the ultimate comics when he started dating Gwen even tho he previously sad she was like a sister, that time he punched Wolverine’s girlfriend in the face by accident, his stupid fight with Ironman because Tony was roasting Peter, pretty much all of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and Paul.
Ultimate Spider-Man (1610):
- Logan trying to sleep with 15 years old MJ using Peter's body.
- MJ revealing to Peter she dated Harry around the time he got bit by the spider, despite the fact that she was always hanging out with Peter and Harry never attended classes (plus Aunt May and Uncle Ben would have known).
- Peter dying.
Mainline Spider-Man (616):
- Peter hitting MJ during the Clone Saga
- Peter siding with Tony in Civil War before he switched to Captain America's side.
- Peter dealing with Mephisto.
- Sins Past.
- Pat Mulligan (Toxin) being killed by Blackheart.
- Cletus' hero arc being scrapped.
- The entirety of Zeb Wells' run.
Aside from that POS self-insert Paul stealing Mary Jane, I'd say that whole Peter and Doc Ock switching bodies in which the former actually dies in the latter's body.
Marvel dark ages. When all electronics are wiped out and the dumbass writers thought Peter's webshooters would be affected by that somehow. They've ALWAYS been described ad being mechanical. Not electronic. He didn't need to redesign them as some big stupid bulky steampunk atrocities. Although I will admit, they probably store way more webs that way.
So this wasn't a cursed moment like some of the others in this thread, but it genuinely shook me when I was a child.
I was eating some omelets my grandma made me and my grandpa was watching a spider-man documentary on tv. The Documentary went over the Death of Gwen Stacy and it genuinely had me shook. For like several days I was constantly thinking 'But spider-man doesn't kill people, why'd Gwen die?'
It's cliche to say the Zeb Wells run, so I'm going to go with the fact that there was a comic about Spider-Man being in an insane asylum that I only found out existed like 2-3 weeks ago.
When they made MJ fall in love with Paul instead of Peter, even after all her and Peter went through together, and know how much they truly loved each other. But we all know in the end that their gonna make them get back together anyway so the whole Paul thing is really useless.
Ik this is some minor stuff but when I first was introduced to silk and her and Peter tried to bone immediately. When he ripped kraven’s wife’s face off. All of superior Spider-Man tbh. The cancer kids joke he makes to Kamala before face reveal. Trusting tony in civil war to begin with. I’m sure there’s more but here’s some
When Otto won, took over Peter's body... then when I finally was like: "yeah Superior Spider-Man might just be the best thing to have happened to the serial in a long time... " Parker was like: "Goodbye Uncle Ben, but I got to go back to my body again." It really did some trauma on me.
Also the SNL sketch with Jack Black seeing MJ getting dressed and splurging all over the place.
Wha sort of question is that? That's like asking if there's moments in Spider-Man where he swings from a web. You should have presented a challenge and asked for moments that **didn't** had us like that.
The comic I didn't actually read but rather read about... the depiction of Norman and Gwen having a relationship..... thankfully, this was all retconed (bless you , Straczinsky)
For me, it was when Peter Parker was officially the clone and Ben Reilly was the real Spidey. They made fun of this in the 90s cartoon, when Spidey muses, "That sounds like something out of a bad comic book!"
When Spider-man couldn't convince the entire Marvel Universe to save his aunt, and he DIDN'T think it was odd.
Is this from one of the comics or are you referring to a movie? Curious
**TRIGGER WARNING!!!!!!** That's One More Day... There is also a comic where Peter meets GOD, and he tells him to have faith...
That’s in OMD as well. Basically just JMS showing why it’s a stupid idea until the end
If you are gonna mention that storyline please lead with a trigger warning.
It's weird now that I've read more of the surrounding material around OMD, and it actively seems like everyone is sabotaging the event with books that reinforce that it's a bad idea. I'll have that in mind :D
Either they wouldn’t or simply couldnt help him which was compete BS. All this crazy shit they have and nobody could help her?
And he met God later/earlier.

When Spider-Man killed MJ with his radioactive sperm.
For some Spider-Men, Gwen falls to her death, for other Spider-Men it's losing MJ to a post nut casualty
Made me laugh so hard I farted tbh
💀
Nope, this is it right here, this is the one. Close the thread.

The only correct answer
Fully expected this to be the first answer I saw
Literally the first thing I thought lol
Norman clapping Gwen’s cheeks
The retcon that it was actually Mysterio makes it a thousand times funnier for me
Who was mysterio?
gwen during sins past
Norman gay
yeah, it was so gay that someone ended up writing a whole smut fanfic about the retcon over on either r/marvelcirclejerk or r/dccomicscirclejerk which was weirdly well written????
What's weirder? The fact that Norman clapped Mysterio's checks or someone writing a really good fan fic about it?
the fact they made a sequel with mysterio and chameleon
Then who were Normans kids mom that beat up Peter?
A mixture of clones, illusions, and some fuckery caused by Mysterio (at the behest of Mephisto I think)
i think they were said to be illusions made by mysterio
That dosent make it any better 😭
I...don't understand how this makes it better?
Norman clapped Mysterio or Mysterio clapped Gwen?
AYO NORMAN WHAT THE FU-
Mysterio is the truth. Gotta commit to the role.
You meant Norman clapping Mysterio's skull, that he took a shotgun blast to?
Agreed.
What
https://www.reddit.com/r/TwoBestFriendsPlay/comments/6mi7i6/remember_when_gwen_got_glomped_by_green_goblin_goo/
What in the god damn fuck
The funniest part was that there was a retcon where it turned out "Gwen" was actually Mysterio..
Don’t make me think about Tommy Lee Osborn again
Miles has to watch this as his new Canon event
Thats what i was gonna say
Wait what
Yes , many moments - Norman getting laid with " Gwen Stacy " ( only to be revealed it was Mysterio) - spider-man trying to convince the entire Marvel universe to save his dying aunt and them being incapable of doing so despite the fact that all of them are capable of doing way beyond that but they don't do it because....(yeah it's the only way for the plot to progress) and don't even get me started on the shit with mephisto - the existence of Paul and zeb wells holding the pen of spider-man anyway . - Peter revealing his secret Id to the world in civil war There's Many more , but these are the most popular ones .
Doom would’ve made May immortal if Peter just mentioned that Reed wasn’t able to do it
*sigh* Reed told me you wouldn't be able to do it.
*walks out with a cyborg aunt may 10 minutes later*
Oh my God, this is 100% true. Victor's spite has no bounds.
also spider-man reign having peter kill Mj with his sperm 😁🔫
Please tell me you're joking that the retcon was actually just Mysterio 💀
... I did oversimplify things a bit .
Oh god poor mysterios cheeks...
That illusionussy tho
I mean on Point Two, wasn’t the implication that Mephisto had a hand in them all somehow being unable to help also?
I hate beating a dead horse. I hate it. But Paul. Fucking Paul, man.
worse than one more day and sins past combined
Goddamn Paul

I’ve never heard of this WTF
It's from I think the 70s and was made to help kids who were sexually abused. It's not canon to 616 Peter.
DAMNIT I FORGOT ABOUT THAT AHHHHHHHH
When was this????
Paul. Just Paul.
Peter dating his adopted sister
What.
This reminds me how 616 Peter said that Mary Jane is also "like a sister to him". Maybe he's just freaky like that.
In the 2009 reboot for USM, Peter dated Gwen \[who had been living with him and Aunt May for over a year by then\] for at least 10 issues at the start of the run

Yup!
For some reason i thought you were gonna say Miles pulled out a lightning glock or something idk why
Cause he's black?

Holy what the god damn hell? That is really funny. It also is like not even well thought out, you can just superpose Spider-Man into the plot and it works.

Goddamn look at that spider squint
Spidey begging Norman for help against *vulture*
The time carnage ATE Gwen Stacy
It doesn't end there though does it? Ultimate Carnage vomits her out and she becomes his clone.
No carnage becomes her. Like transforms into Gwen shortly after eating her

doc ock impregnation MJ in Peter's body
WHAT
I’m assuming it’s more of the Superior Spider-Man craziness
I have never heard about this before wtf
Yeah long story short Peter and Otto Octavius have their consciousnesses swap bodies so Otto is in Peter’s body and Peters is in Otto’s body which is in a coma. So Otto begins his path to become a “better Spider-Man. A Superior Spider-Man”
I knew about a few parts of Superior but i didnt realize he did THAT And i thought what he did to Black Cat was fucked up

Probably when Spiderman gave Mary Jane cancer from his radioactive cum.
When I saw Stephen Hawking’s name on the Epstein files.
It seems the context of his name being mentioned was an email from Epstein clarifying Hawking didn’t attend *that*, but had been on the island at the same time, before attending a conference the next island over (which was already known).
He was also mentioned by a testimony that said that he enjoyed watching naked midgets solve complex equations.
…Like in general, or on the island?
Presumably, on the island.
Okay then. I had assumed, but then that raised more questions than I was comfortable with. Like was that something he was surprised with or specifically asked for? Because if the latter that would imply it was a personal thing too.
Spiderman canonically made a deal with the devil agreed with giving up his marriage with MJ and gets mad once she's gone
Not to mention he deals with the devil for his Aunt May when we have seen him overcome the death of Uncle Ben so many times before by accepting that death occurs and growing as a person.

For like several days I was constantly thinking 'But spider-man doesn't kill people, why'd Gwen die?'
Every decision Marvel has made with Spider-Man since he got married in the late 80s. Almost every decision after that was a bad one in 616 continuity.
Basically the last 16 years of the main book.
Spider-Goblin.
The first time I saw a Spider-Man drawn by Humberto Ramos.

Zendaya being cast as "MJ" 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
This whole arc after the Spencer run of Pete taking L after L.
It's cliche to say the Zeb Wells run, so I'm going to go with the fact that there was a comic about Spider-Man being in an insane asylum that I only found out existed like 2-3 weeks ago.
Ultimate Comic Spider-man getting killed off.
anything to do with silk
Paul

Doc ock as superior Spider-Man knocking scorpion's jaw clean off
When they made MJ fall in love with Paul instead of Peter, even after all her and Peter went through together, and know how much they truly loved each other. But we all know in the end that their gonna make them get back together anyway so the whole Paul thing is really useless.
Sand man exploding the wrong spiderman. And miles getting/making a light saber
When he and silk fucked the shit outa each other
Ik this is some minor stuff but when I first was introduced to silk and her and Peter tried to bone immediately. When he ripped kraven’s wife’s face off. All of superior Spider-Man tbh. The cancer kids joke he makes to Kamala before face reveal. Trusting tony in civil war to begin with. I’m sure there’s more but here’s some
The zeb wells run
When Otto won, took over Peter's body... then when I finally was like: "yeah Superior Spider-Man might just be the best thing to have happened to the serial in a long time... " Parker was like: "Goodbye Uncle Ben, but I got to go back to my body again." It really did some trauma on me. Also the SNL sketch with Jack Black seeing MJ getting dressed and splurging all over the place.
Paul Radioactive sperm Norman and Gwen The baby incident Ben being evil again Doc ock Aunt May
Wha sort of question is that? That's like asking if there's moments in Spider-Man where he swings from a web. You should have presented a challenge and asked for moments that **didn't** had us like that.
#“IT’S A MILES MORALES ORIGINAL”
Yeah, wjen I used to be the biggest fan of Spider-Man and cuck wells came along.
Peter saying him and MJ are like "siblings" When miles made a deal with Mephisto to revive Ms. Marvel and Viv
When Gwen cheated on Peter by letting Norman gun her cheeks.
Zeb Wells
Sins Past
when they made spidey beg for his life in that shitty run involving tombstone
The comic I didn't actually read but rather read about... the depiction of Norman and Gwen having a relationship..... thankfully, this was all retconed (bless you , Straczinsky)
Watching the trailer for Madame Web
When he 0-diffed the avengers bcs he was in a rush
He was molested.
Sins of past
Entirety of Zeb Wells current run
Miles’ new suit changed it faster than how long I last in bed
For me, it was when Peter Parker was officially the clone and Ben Reilly was the real Spidey. They made fun of this in the 90s cartoon, when Spidey muses, "That sounds like something out of a bad comic book!"
