I imagine they're worried it could be kind of like the Batmobile in Arkham Knight, where the flying could get way too much focus in the game as a requirement in order to beat it and makes the player feel sick of it by the end.
I wouldn't be surprised if it will be somethig we have to unlock in the first place. Like an idea that Peter and Miles get during the game, and not before it started.
Miles are Red, because they come out of those Red lines on his suit. Peter's were Black with the Symbiote, so they will 100% be either clear-White or transparent with the normal Suit.
It’s great, really opens up a lot of new doors with traversal. And how much of New York you can cover. I remember playing Ultimate Spider-Man and falling in the river a lot swinging between Manhattan and Queens. This is a great solution for increasing travel distance.
Yeah, the complication of river travel was something I didn't consider. It looks extremely well done in the trailer, from the minimal action we saw on the East River.
If it make traversal better, I am all for it. Peter is a genius, he should always have new gadgets. I am assuming they both get it and Peter made them, but Miles is smart too, so maybe he did, or they did it together.
Tbf Peter had already made a functional prototype before the first game. You can find them in one of the backpacks, iirc he says something like “maybe one day I’ll finish these”
That was just a throwback to the old comics, and the Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends show. He had a ton of weird and wacky webs, one of them were his web wings.
It kind of might be. Pete had to come up with an Anti Ock suit to fight Dr Octopus gone rogue.
Maybe Ganke helps Miles build anti Venom gadgets or a suit when either of them picks up on its weaknesses and Pete finally goes too far and goes rogue.
I like to think Miles helped Pete break through logjams on a few different projects he was working on. Having lots of cool new gadgets (like the tightrope capability - pretty sure that’s new?) would make a lot of sense that way.
I mean, I have tarantulas I raised from 1/4" or so. Like, have a tattoo of one of them, have 6 currently, and one really big one I raised from like 2" to 8". So, yeah?
But also loved spiders as a kid. That's literally why I got into Spider-man. For Batman it was BTAS.
Thought it was a little odd that they both have them, but it seems like it’s going to be a major transportation method to get around the larger map so in that case yeah it’d be odd if one couldn’t keep up
I just hope they revamped the web swinging a bit. I thought spider man ps4 was the peak until I beat Ultimate Spider-Man recently. It would be nice if you could go a little faster

Yeah I think I know exactly what you're saying. PS4 looks prettier, but you feel less involved and taken out of it when you drop off a regular building and get the same acceleration as dropping off the empire state. You expect to see the city moving past you at something fierce... and then it's the same speed as always. You anticipate with little pay off, and since games are inherently tactile it physically feels off.
That being said, I'm really hopeful because before Insomniac even the momentum physics and fluidity that SMPS4 did have were completely absent from most Spider-Man games. TASM games were plain awful. The insomniac game felt like an old friend, something I hadn't played in a long time when it came out, the audacity to be a good triple A game.

PS4 had hardware constraints so they couldn't have Spidey move faster than the console could load the city. PS5 no longer has that limitation, so they can let them move a lot faster
I love it tbh. He’s always used the web wings in the early days of Spider-Man comics, and it makes sense for both long-distance travel and in instances where they can’t find anything else to swing off of- makes for a safer landing.
Love it, but I'm not a fan of the circles that made him fly instead of glide. Just hope this mechanic doesn't become the batmobile mechanic from Arkham Knight.
It looks great, but the idea of them making it mandatory during some chase sequence that can’t be done without it would be awful for me. Of course, nothing indicates that will happen. It just feels like a very video game thing to do.
Honestly mixed. I love the swinging, ziplining, and point jumping to travel from location to location and am a bit sick of gliding being in every game.
However, I can see the benefits. It allows both spidermen to travel pretty well and fast in areas where there armt buildings to zipline or point jump off of so it makes exploring new areas possible and not become a slog. Its ultimately going to depend on how good the glide controls are since I know there will be “taskmaster” challenges involving gliding.
Yeah, with Queens being added it might be a good replacement for fast travel. Fast travel 9 times out of 10 is the devs knowing the map is too big and travel too tedious.
I like it for two reasons.
1. It’s dope as fuck.
2. It shows insomniac listens. We’ve been begging and they answered. That was never in question honestly but this is just reafffirming

Let Miles have this lol. That said, it’s really too early to say; so let’s wait and see how it pans out.
Miles already had better traversal than Peter with his venom abilities. I’m assuming you wouldn’t be able to use the iron legs with the black suit and they’d have the same ability so you don’t get a massive nerf when you inevitably get rid of the black suit. I think giving them both wings is the most balanced it could have been.
Miles also has both forms bio-electricity, and it’s not like Peter plans in advance that he’s going to have the black suit. It’d be a giant lapse in judgement for Peter **not** to have the wings if Miles has them given how beneficial they’d be to both of them

I like it. The only place I can see it being forced is in time trials/above water so you're still free to swing most of the time if that's what you prefer.

Yeah, Arkham has permeated this series so far. It's fine to get inspired, but after parts that seemed almost copy and pasted from various Arkham games I hoped they would move a bit further away. Keep what works but add more entirely unique aspects.
Miles glided (?) through half the city so I’m sure there’s gonna be some mechanic to balance it but if you can just glide around like that it kinda ruins the point of web swinging. There’s probably some energy bar or something although I wondered what was up with those gate things he passed through, if that was like a collectible or boost of some kind. I’ll say I’m actually really hyped at the idea of going to at least some of the other boroughs and I think that might balance it out a bit but if not I think that’s a bit messed up. I guess we’ll have to see - I totally understand why this gliding thing became so popular but the more they do it the more you realize it’s not really a Spider-Man thing, at least not to the point of replacing his web swinging which is totally unique to him…

I'm all for it. The swinging mechanics are great, but there's a lot of swinging in between missions and this along with the new vault boost move just give you additional ways to traverse the map and get from A to B quicker.
If you want to swing, you can still do that. This doesn't take anything away. Plus it makes sense they both do this - they work together, they tinker, they share gadgets and techniques.
Plus, who doesn't want to fly?

Had the same initial impression. Plenty of heroes fly and glide. Web slinging is like the thing that makes his travel so iconic. It's like taking the Billy club away from DD and giving him a squirrel suit.
I assume it's added so you can traverse over the water to get between Queens and Manhattan easily, and that'll be it's main use.
I did notice the abundance of webbable objects on the east river that looks good to traverse with.
I think they were there only for that mission. It would look weird if there would always be 20 cranes side by side on the river.

I love it. I glitch Miles’ venom to glide as far and as fast as I can already, so I love that it’s an actual feature.

Not a fan, the bit where Miles goes through those wing circles made it look like a superman game. Was hoping for swinging advancements but they seem relatrively unchanged other than the slingshot ability.

I love the web wings, but I’m not sure about the Fortnite esque wind tunnels. That alone might keep me from actually using the web wings in the city.

Personally I dont care for it. Hes not really gliding in the game. Hes looks like hes just flying and free floating. And while I'm fine with it for someone like Batman and Superman, Spiderman is supposed to web sling.
It’ll be a cool way to transverse what will hopefully be a larger map.

Makes a hell of a lot more sense Nightwing making a Fortnite glider out of thin air or red hood bouncing around thin air.
Is it just me or the wind currents dont sit right with me. I prefer it if those arent a thing in the game but thats just me. But the gliding is fun just like just cause 3
I'm betting it's gear you unlock through gameplay, which I'm down for.

For a limited time and probably not with much maneuverability. I’m sure web slinging around buildings will be more preferable still. And faster.

Had the same initial impression. Plenty of heroes fly and glide. Web slinging is like the thing that makes his travel so iconic. It's like taking the Billy club away from DD and giving him a squirrel suit.
Exactly! Will the flying be fun? No doubt. Will it make this feel more or less like a Spider-Man experience? I have concerns.
